    Thank you so much for this!
    Edit: I’m going through this and your info was spot on. After you recommended a body retinol I went out and bought one. After a month I can see the difference (and feel it, too). I’m on hormone replacement, estrogen only in the form of estradiol transdermal patch, and it has helped a lot, especially with sleep and my skin. I’m sure many nurses are familiar with the “skin snowstorm” when changing the sheets of elderly patients in the hospital due to the dryness of their skin. It just flakes off onto the sheets. Daily moisturizing becomes a must as we get older. I also take collagen daily, along with Omega 3, a multivitamin, Vit D, and a pre and pro biotic because you’ll see changes in your gut. I recommend any woman that’s going through this to talk with an OB/Gyn about HRT. Lastly, weight training is a must. You don’t have to lift like The Rock, but keeping/growing muscle and putting that extra weight on your bones will help you avoid osteoporosis and your skin will look better. But, talk to your doctor first about any exercise program. I know this is a long post, but I hope it helped some women to know you are not alone.

    I’m on anti estrogen meds because of breast cancer. My skin is dry. I’m 52. I’ve noticed my face changing just recently. I use Cereve moisturizer, acids and retinol and castor oil for my hands.

      sounds like a great routine. have you tried taking a fish oil supplement? Sometimes sleeping with a humidifier is helpful, and always apply that moisturizer right after the shower on damp skin.

    Thanks, Doc, this is a great post! I'll be 64 this year, but I didn't notice many skin changes until a few years ago, especially in the face after a bout with Bell's Palsy! My skin started to get crepey and drier, but since my skin has been dry most of my life I'm used to using alot of moisturizer and sunscreen. I had a bad bout of hot flashes that made my skin blotchy, but that has since calmed. At the beginning of menopause I had some acne breakouts (a first for me, even as a teen I rarely had pimples!). I tried hormone therapy but developed blood clots, so that's not an option. I'm still having problems because of after effects of endometriosis and fibroids, but the lasting effects seem to be skin sensitivity- I'm trying retinoids, but so far they are all irritating to my skin.

      I get pretty sensitive to many retinol products also. Have you tried the skinbetter alpharet? I find it to be really tolerable. skinbetter.pro/drdustin

    MHT is the best, and low risk for most people. 🙌🏻 Not sure it’s helped with dryness but helps me sleep, which makes me less cranky. 😆
    I’ve found I have more skin issues, used to have none. Got acne first, which lead me to retinol, then eczema, now seborrheic dermatitis. Will this end? 😭

    Male changes? Do men see similar or other changes as they age. Does collagen production lessen for instance? I am now 63, but have lived with chronic immune problems from HIV. I don’t know if the changes are about aging or illness?😁👍🏻🇨🇦

    • @drdustinportela
      @drdustinportela  3 месяца назад +2

      Great topic for a future video. Because men don’t have a sharp decline in hormones the changes are less marked with aging, but there are still changes.

      One tip I would give you is to use a back scrubber but wash your back AFTER you condition your hair. This made a huge difference for me. That and quitting eating and drinking dairy.

      so hard to treat scars with a cream only. I often find patients do better with a series of microneedling treatments or laser treatment. Unfortunately those can get expensive.
