This video put me over the edge... I was on the fence between this and the hornady ammo plant (which gives more features for the buck) but Dillon is a 25 minute drive door to door. I got the basic XL650 setup for .45 acp, the optional powder check for station 3, the strong mount with trays, and the aluminum pull handle. I didn't get the case feeder, but I'll put it on my xmas list. Thanks for making these great videos!
Many thanks for this video. Just picked up an Xl650. Discovered you a few weeks back in a video with a couple of long range shooters. So I checked your site, and have subscribed. I'll be back for more on the 650 as I begin using it.
I've been loading on a 650 for a few years. Awesome press, awesome company. I bought my 650 used, and its an original 1994 machine. Dillon has sent me parts anytime something broke no questions asked. Dies - I have dillon dies for .38/357 and 45. I have lee dies for .40. Both seem to work fine. For the first press user - not a good choice as a first press, very complex machine that works great, but for a first time reloader it might be a bit much to grasp. Safety is key, speed comes later.
Dillon uses industry standard of 7/8 X 14 thread pitch in the 650, 1050 and most of their products, same as most Lee, RCBS, Hornaday and Redding. Only exception is the Dillon Square Deal. Which uses a proprietorial threading. I routinely use RCBS and Redding precision seating dies on my 650 and 1050.
@Strothy2 the station number 3 is open and not a mandatory station but you can put mutiple different things in that station such as a mr. bullet feeder or a powder check die but it does not have to have anything in it
@poik12 Yep every cal has a different die no matter which press. Dies usually come in a pair 1 for decap and size the other for bullet seating. You might find some that have a crimp die also but not always. However most dies will fit in most presses comon thread is 7/8 UNC. There can be quite a bit to reloading for accuracy but never ever take someones word on powder weight charge always refer to a manual or the powder manufacturers website. Hope this helps
Have you experienced any issues with powder spillage from the powder hopper, or from the cases advancing in the shell plate? If so, do you have any recommendations?
Thanks for the video. I'm starting to evaluate various progressives. It'll probably be around a year before I get one. I was unable to see this video directly on UltimateReloader.com at ultimatereloader.com/2009/08/04/471/ and a few others seem to not be showing videos in page. So I'm here directly on RUclips. Another thing that would be nice is if the Dillon playlist were sorted by Overview and the sequence you added accessories or newer features. Thanks again.
Great early video! You have come along way!!

Excellent; clear and concise narrative with excellent video angles of the various operations.

I didn't know Dillon had a life time warranty until I saw this post!
Hello Jonathan, do you know which year the XL650 was released? Thanks!

Any plans on reviewing a 550B?

A bullet coalator makes it even beter I built my own and I built case coallator too nice press
yes
Which dies do you recommend for 45 acp on this machine?
you say fine piece of equipment a few too many times but good use of different angles etc. to illustrate how the press works etc.
Do you have to use Dillon dies? I have Lee dies already, can I use them?
GregwGa you can use your dies
how much?
