  • Red tide, a naturally occurring algal bloom that's made worse from human activities, has appeared in Southwest Florida. Health officials in Sarasota County have posted red tide warnings at several beaches in and around Venice, Florida. Scientists say the latest red tide bloom that's killing fish and irritating beachgoers eyes, noses and lungs, may be in part due to nutrients and pollutants washed into the Gulf of Mexico by Hurricane Ian's heavy rains.
