You are a fantastic teacher, Tom! So clear, accessible, and inspiring. Really glad I discovered your channel. Thank you for all the hard work -- it really shows!
The three camera angles plus tab really help. The pace for your videos is perfect. This is really helpful! Thanks for all the work you put into these vids!
@@tommeinNo probs, I can play guitar, not too bad o th then but you make it look so way but so cool, but lead guitar is beyond,me but playing slap double bass at the mo or i did but need to go bk to learn notes a couple of scales I don't get them,? I play by era as I don't know my notes but can play and in key lol been in 4 billy bands so not to sad but not that good either, a ho
I’m gonna have to hire you to teach me some rockabilly. I love the Stray Cats and I’ve always wanted to play that way. I’ve got a hangstrom Viking II and I’m planning on Gretch in the near future.
Hey Tom , I just discovered your channel the other day and subscribed. Now I have 2 great rockabilly teachers, Damian bacci and you. Keep it coming, I love the crosspicking/chicken picking techniques
@@tommein I hope you publish a lot of more of your stuff in lessons to come. Your lessons are very comprehensive with the way you explain it, and with the tabs on screen. Maybe you could do some Scotty Moore in Baby let's play house and Good Rockin' tonight i.e. the Elvis Sun Recordings, and some Carl Perkins would be cool 😎 🎶 too!
Great lessons for the Rockabilly guitar newbie. Please keep them coming maybe building up to how to integrate rhythm and licks for a complete piece. Thank you.
I never intended to learn rockabilly stuff, but it sounds so cool and these videos are awesome! My only question, in the future, could you say what Key you are in when showing the licks? I think you have played in A for both videos, but other people might be confused
Thank you! You are correct, the licks are played in the key of A but all are movable to other keys. I will make it a point to make that clear in future episodes! Thanks for helping me make these videos even better!
@@tommein "Phoenix, Arizona, don't forget Winona, get your kicks on Route 66". My dream would be taking a long stay in USA to get intensive guitar lessons, face to face with a teacher that could even let me try amplifiers and effects (to learn settings), because I almost never had! but I think it'll remain a dream... (PS: it was Flagstaff!).
Oh k, I'm gunna need THIS lesson too! I'm suffering some pretty serious Rockabilly psychosis at the moment.... But I feel like if I learn these techniques, this is the missing piece to my own musical puzzle 🧩... I put this music to my drinkin, smokin , and VEHICULAR mayhem lyrics....
I had tons of fun with that video! and the best part is is that my fun lasted about 4 times longer than yours... at least when playing at speed, haha. ;)
After a 4 year break from serious guitar practice, I'm having a hell of a time getting the Mystery Train rhythm part down. I'll get there. The rust is breaking off fairly quickly, which is encouraging. Thanks for your efforts!
Great Lesson !!! I will practice daily: Can't see my hands & fingers picking up that speed with arthritis, but I'll try. What kind of Neck & Bridge Pickups are you using. I got the original FilterTrons on my 1992 G-7594T and 1998 G-6120 Nashville and the Historic Series G-3110 synchromatic with the cats-eye sound holes. Wouldn't change their sound, but I'd like to try a TV Jones Classic and/or. Classic Plus.
Thanks Matthew! I think you're taking about 11:36. It's the same lick as the first, except you're lowering the C# to a C natural . In the A7 chord, C# is the third and in the IV chord D7 the C is the seven. Add the pulloff on the top string A and B pulling off to E and you're playing notes from a D9 and D13 chord. But that's just bonus. It's really about lowering that 3rd so it fits the shape of the IV chord I'm using (which in this case I'm thinking of a D9). Hope that answers your question!
I think the TAB for the riff around the 9:06 mark needs correcting. After the first riff the riffle that follows has 85 75 pull offs on the E string on the repeats. Same thing around 9:14 on the scale ru down... pulling off 85 75 on the "B" string and again on the G strings. I still love it but I slowed it down to see why the TAB fingering sounded different to your playing. :)
I came here not just for the playing, but to admire the hardware and the cool threads. Man, that is a super jacket!
Haha thanks so much!

Thanks Leonard! I use TVJones classic in the bridge and Supertron in the neck for darker sounds

Hey Tom where can i get some backing tracks?
Great stuff!! Loved the Banjo Roll at the end. I was confused as the second position looked like a E7 hybrid but played over the D?
Thanks Matthew!
I think you're taking about 11:36. It's the same lick as the first, except you're lowering the C# to a C natural . In the A7 chord, C# is the third and in the IV chord D7 the C is the seven.
