What am I missing here? What does this setup offer that the LCD box setup doesn't? Coolness factor? Okay, then what? Seems like using the LCD box is much faster, less hassle to get to the point where you can actually start programming. Hope there is much more to this cool gadget.
1. No more "PC" required to update the firmware. 2. Addressed to "APPLE users". - now everyone can program through a smart device: ex. iphone, android, iPad, etc. 3. Additional adjustment features can be tuned in future due to a large memory capacity through a smart device. 4. User's Manual download directly through OTA (over the air) 5. Plug'n play - easy usage. 6. Import & export data setting 7... and of course, you will look cool at a track. : )
Such a cool piece of kit. I don't understand why so many of you complain that your esc in incompatible and you have not been able to look it up if it's compatible or not. It really isn't that difficult and the info has been there since they launched the WiFi module. Just go onto the Hobbywing website and look up your esc and look under specifications, look under "ESC Programming via" and it's clearly listed which methods of programming is supported. Take the XR8 Plus ESC. It can be programmed either with the LCD Programming Box or WiFi Module. www.hobbywing.com/goods.php?id=335&filter_attr=5426.5473 Another example is the QuicRun 10BL60/120 Sensored ESC. It's only programmable with the set buttom located on the power switch or with the LED Programming Box. www.hobbywing.com/goods.php?id=353&filter_attr=5426.5599 I hope it helps.
Thank you I’ve been having trouble as this is my first g2 hobbywing esc! I look forward to many more and I need to find out what I should set and to what level or number, where could I find that info?
Why not bluetooth? With this method it appears that I cannot have real internet at the same time as being connected to the wifi module, unless I'm missing something. I think this is awesome and just might pick one up, but bluetooth would have been better.
Unfortunately, they are always out of stock. So, what is the hardware? So I can build my own dongle, and it mighy not cost 4-5 times as much as HW. Why does a wifi dongle cost SO MUCH from HW when everyone else's don't cost nearly that much, and do the EXACT SAME THING? I feel like HW wants to be enemies with us. Can't figure that out. Trying to get a HW esc for my speed run build, it's definitely hard. Items out of stock. Forever apparently. And the cost just set my build back a couple of Months. Got this bad feeling like I made the wrong choice.... I sure hope all these headaches are worth it. HW please prove tjr entire internet wrong, and be good. 👍
PT2 Oh. and FYI i do have their current direct connect program box however the QuickRun esc that i just purchased is not compatible with this as well as it needs an update. I spent hours attempting to update this online from their site. No success. Frustrated!
Just go to the Hobbywing website and look up your ESC, go into "Specifications" scroll down to where it says "ESC Programming Via" and see which options there is for your esc.
If this is your ESC www.hobbywing.com/goods.php?id=354&filter_attr=5426.5599 Then no it's not compatible with the WiFi module, it can only be programmed by using the set button on the power switch or using the LED Programming Box. I hope it helps.
Have you figured it out? If not. Which XR8 are you talking about the XR8 SCT or the XR8 Plus? They both support programming via the LCD Programming Box or the WiFi Module XR8 Plus www.hobbywing.com/goods.php?id=335&filter_attr=5426.5473 XR8 SCT www.hobbywing.com/goods.php?id=541&filter_attr=5426.5473 Remember to look under "Specifications" and then under "ESC Programmin Via"
Do I have to use this program box for my new XR8-SCT speed control. I have the program box. I haven't installed the new speed control 5100 motor combo yet. If I don't have a smart phone will this work on a computer too?
As long as you have the latest LCD program box (the one with the battery checker), it will work. WiFi Module does exactly the same with additional features such as OTA firmware update, manual access, data log etc. www.hobbywingdirect.com/products/lcd-program?variant=1181193952
has anyone tried using this Hw WIFI module with any of Team Orion's Esc's? In the instruction manual it says,amain.com also states that this is compatible with all products that works with the programming box. I almost want to buy one and try it if nobody has thought about this .. I'm very interested in the new technology being released for radio controlled hobbies lately, i'm also extremely curious about differences/similarities of this product, called the Hobbywing Wifi Module, and the newest speed controller from Team Orion, called the HMX10. In all honesty, I must confess that I do not believe the hype being spun around the new Hmx10 and I would not give it much notice were it not for two very intriguing talking points. 1. According to Team Orion themselves, this is a completely new design, quote " that will revolutionize the hobby". and 2. supposedly the HMX10 is produced in house, at some Team Orion esc factory in Switzerland,.But if that's true, or if this is just another product that in reality is i.e. some OEM being marketed as a product that's designed, assembled and programmed in Europe, and thus is sold forum to three times the price of the same product but different branding, that remains unclear .sadly, many rc enthusiasts really do believe the notion that Most expensive equals better than the competition.sadly this is a well known tactic widely used in the RC industry.Team Orion don't want the Rc-enthusiasts to know the truth about their Vortex Lineup, because if people knew that they were really made by Hobbywing, I guess the demand for extremely overpriced OEM stuff would not be huge, and people wouldn't be so quick to bad mouth chinese/asian rc products..If the Hmx10 controller turns out to be a copy as well, then I will never trust Team Orion again. But don't misunderstand me, the products are great !But they insist in having the worst customer service /product support I have been subjected to. I can just forget about updating one of my vortex Esc or the programming box , because they have made a totally useless webpage that is complete nonsense where everything is unavailable, despite sending three individual e-mails informing about the problem, and asking for help, I have not received as much as an answer to this , one year gone..
after i purchased this useless expensive item i quickly learned that it will not work with my HW QuickRun esc - which i just purchased a week ago. They dont list anywhere which of their existing products that are not compatible. I just threw away 55 buck!
Hobbywing seems to be taking over.

Thanks Ron. Very informative.
Have you used the real-time data logging in the app? Do you know what the bale number means in the data logs? Thanks in advance
I’m not happy I have to buy a programmer for my esc to work
PT2 Oh. and FYI i do have their current direct connect program box however the QuickRun esc that i just purchased is not compatible with this as well as it needs an update. I spent hours attempting to update this online from their site. No success. Frustrated!
Hi. How can i connect the wifi express to an xr8 plus without losing the fan? To leave it on board. I cant do it whit the Y connector its came.
Hello, does it work with a radio control boat that has Hobbywing electronics?
Work the Wifi Express with the Ezrun Max6 too?
How do you know what ESC's are compatible with the Express module?
Just go to the Hobbywing website and look up your ESC, go into "Specifications" scroll down to where it says "ESC Programming Via" and see which options there is for your esc.
Is that compatible with the older versions of ESC such as QUICRUN WP 8BL150 ?
If this is your ESC www.hobbywing.com/goods.php?id=354&filter_attr=5426.5599
Then no it's not compatible with the WiFi module, it can only be programmed by using the set button on the power switch or using the LED Programming Box.

Thanks, Great info.

Just save it you might get one that is compatible with the WiFi module.
GMUMMY quick run is pretty much the only one that doesn’t work
Totally useless feature imo. Ye it is cool but impractical. Only for people who think they are F1 engineers xD.
1,000 Subscribers Without Any Videos? It’s great for when your at the track and need to adjust stuff.
