    You asked: Will it dominate in this price segment?
    Chinese consumers answered: 15,000 monthly sales just 3 months into mass production of the Seal, even though Tesla has been forced to cut prices on the Model 3 to try to compensate.
    So yeah, I think it is fair to say that BYD will dominate this price segment.

    • @tren133
      @tren133 Год назад

      @@Harrythehun Indeed sales of the BYD Seal are now down to around 6,000 units a month. Although I guess that is to be expected with Tesla and everyone else engages in the 2023 mother of all car price wars in China, but for whatever reason BYD didn't start discounting the Seal until just a couple of months ago.
      But that doesn't mean BYD isn't selling a whole load of sedans, they just chose to lower the prices on their other sedans instead. Besides the 5650 Seal EV sedans they sold in July, BYD also sold 11,455 Qin Plus EV sedans, 11,634 Han EV sedans, 2,550 Qin EV sedans, 13,603 Han PHEV sedans, 11,994 Destroyer 05 PHEV sedans, and a whopping 30,700 Qin Plus PHEV sedans.
      Although no single model can touch the actual king of pure BEV sedan sales in China, GAC's Aion S, which notched over 22,000 sales in July. So I guess price really is king in the Chinese market.

      @@ChinaDriven Also, XPeng’s G9 uses the 800V to power the motors. That way it gets some amazing efficiency. The same range per kWh as Y while being one size and 250kg larger than Y. It’s supposed to be difficult to power components with 800V. It requires high quality SiC semiconductor instead of Silicon ones. 800V would melt silicone. I would be interested in how much of the Seal infrastructure is 800V. If it just steps down the voltage before it gets to the motors, then it wouldn’t get true 800V efficiency.

    • @ChinaDriven
      @ChinaDriven  Год назад +4

      I’m planning to do a review of the 2023 BYD Han! But it won’t be a head to head with the Seal.
      I’ll give you my generally thoughts. The BYD Seal & BYD Han are aimed at different people. The Han is about 16cm longer overall than the Seal, so a little bigger, but their wheelbases are the same.
      The Seal comes with a double wishbone upfront and the whole driving feel, exterior look, interior look is more sporty compared to the Han. The Han is more sedate in it’s styling and handling dynamics. It’s aimed more at the business/professional person, maybe slightly older crowd. The Seal is for perhaps younger people looking for something a bit more sporty.
      The BYD Han EV is running on the older 2.0 e-platform vs the Seal on the newer 3.0 e-platform. So no 800V for the BYD Han.

    Love the humor and delivery. As you say the regen braking is weak compared to the model 3 and one pedal driving is not possible on the seal as from other reviewers, but when you come to a stop say at traffic lights, do you need to put your foot on the brake to keep the car at a standstill?

      Fantastic that you are a fan of this EV! Chinese domestic market is spoilt when it comes to EVs, there are so many great products!
      But when we filmed the BYD Seal media drive we were together in a group with many foreign media. And all I can say is that the BYD Seal blew us away. Honestly between us all, we’ve driven so many BYD EVs, but this completely surprised us all in its ability to drive. There is no other BYD that drive like this.
      Sure the BYD Han EV dual motor is fast but the BYD Seal handles in such a sport way that we never could have imagined based on our drive of period is BYD EVs. This one breaks the mould. A true drivers car

    Biggest challenge: avoid the death trap of US auto dealerships monopoly when coming to the US! People want the freedom and honest pricing, free us from the crooked-made-their-own-laws dealerships!

    • @ChinaDriven
      @ChinaDriven  Год назад

      I understand the concern with dealership markups. But at the same time I think Chinese companies entering a market with no dealership network will pose problems. A brand with no standing in that market and no dealership network may make customers worry about how and where their cars can be serviced or fixed. Especially because these are new cars never seen in the market so there are not 3rd party shops with access to parts for repair. How they go about establishing trust and a repair network will be critical in western markets.
