    Old bars don't have any indicators, like the GT All Tera 2010 and previous. Hence tips like this are quite important 😀

    Thanks. Mtb newbie here. I bought new bars to help with wrist pain, lining up the markers with the hole in the front of the stem had them positioned outward like fixie bull horns. Your comment about lining up with the fork made a lot of sense. I have ignored the markers now !

    No comments on wrist angle, which is the most important factor in wrist pain and numbness. Doesn’t really address sweep at all.

      Hi - not so familiar with the bar or markings so would recommend you drop into a LBS and see what they think. There’s a Ranger of adjustment in most bars and if you’re outwith that then you’re probably setting them up in a questionable way. Good luck!

    What does rotating the bars forward with a 15 degree sweep do

    • @TheContourCollective
      @TheContourCollective  7 месяцев назад

      It depends on the rise but this will change the angle of the bar, the plane and how your wrists sit. Best to experiment with positions and there's no right or wrong.

    The indicator marks seem to be pure show, seeing as there is no information available on what they mean or how to use them to set up your bars. I mean, what is the point of a measurement without reference to what’s being measured?

    • @TheContourCollective
      @TheContourCollective  10 месяцев назад

      Definitely worth a measuring tape to double check width and what you’re cutting off. You’d hope they were reliable but measure twice, cut once.

      It's just a reference point for when you're adjusting.
      For myself my stems and bars have no marks, so I use tapes and the stems clamping area as a reference point

    Using the head angle/fork angle for a starting point is incorrect because there are so many different geometries. That may work for an XC style bike it's not going to work for an all Trail down country or Enduro bike that's for sure. 🙄🤦‍♂️

      Thanks for your thoughts. No exact science in this and definitely a few ways to look at this. Enjoy the set up and finding the right one for your riding.

      @@TheContourCollectiveI would say do the research on mx and dirt bike setup, this is a great source of info. MX Factory, Ryan Hughes and Rocky Mtn. Then maybe you could do a re-do on this topic. That way you could include ALL the variables I had mentioned plus some info not covered. 👍

      @@rider65 that would be super interesting to look into and compare the approaches from MX and dirt bikes. I'm sure there will be quite a few views on this and interested to see if others touch on this comparison. Maybe you've seen other videos on this?

      Aaron Gwin do exactly this (using the angle of his fork) and seem to work for him ;)

    Bar sweep, bar width, & bar Rise are ALL going to be significant factors in where the roll position is set. This seems to escape you, as your set up tips are for your style of riding and for your bike. 🙄

    • @TheContourCollective

      These all play into the bar feel and set-up. As are the bike reach, head angle and how you run your brakes and grips. Cheers for the thoughts.
