    Benchmade Bugout/Bailouts are the perfect contingency knives, keep them in your range bag/backpack/tank bag/bike kit... They aren't the knife you carry when you intend on cutting things, but are light enough to always carry as a contingency. Para 3 is a small convenient knife you carry in your pocket every day. I have them all and bought the Benchmade with deep discounts.

    The spyderco native 5 lightweight needs to be brought up. I know spyderco just raised their prices, but I believe you can still find it for under $100 and there are a bunch of coupon codes out there for different sites. The base native 5 lw is s30v, frn scales, a bank vault satisfying back lock. It also has the ergonomics that make you feel like you could cut down a small tree with it. Sorry for babbling, but for me, the native made me realize what the heart eyes emoji meant all this time!

    • @esoteric5277
      @esoteric5277 4 года назад +1

      I feel the same way. I have some knives that are more precious and a whole bunch that I carry more often. But my Native 5LW and my Manix 2LW would be the ones that I'd want to keep if I had to let go of everything else. That said, my 535 Mini Freek is just soooo sweet ... not as good a slicer as the Native but it does have a very beautiful blade, feels even more comfortable in hand than any Spyderco knife I've ever handled, it's easier to get past when it's in the pocket, and it's also a wonderful fidgettoy😋

    This is right in my wheel house. I carry and cut daily ( Job requirement) so light and effective is what I'm after. I carried the Endura for over 5 yrs, I moved to the Para 2 and improved edge retention but lost pocket space. I want a Para 3 now and the Bugout but for a great budget version I cant find anything to beat the Steel Will Intrigue.Good edge retention (D2), Great cost factor, 2.9 ounces, And a big factor for me is how slim it is allowing me to use my pocket while it has no bulk or weight reminding me I have a good sized knife on me. carry one and it will grow on you like my Endura did. Great Video... nice to see a user vs all the reviewers out here.

    I was gifted the Delica 4, with gray scales, for a graduation present a couple months ago. It is a sweet knife! It is my first nice knife. I already ordered a Pacific Salt 2 in LC200N for snorkeling and food prep in Maui, and I can’t wait to get it and start fiddling with it. I like the idea of getting a Para 3 Lightweight for hiking/camping. The knife costs $154 now! I will end up getting it, but it seems very expensive.

    The main thing I don't like about benchmade is the omega springs. Both of them broke on my 940. For a knife that I like to fidget with and use I don't want to worry about it breaking on me and that's why I don't want to get another benchmade ever again. Spydercos are always solid and reliable and razor sharp.

I actually prefer the feel of the bugout, but I'm sure I'm on an island there. I use the PM2 at work but the bugout i use as more of a "gentleman's knife" it absolutely disappears into slacks or dress pants. I kinda wish spyderco would do a delicia in better materials with a better action, I would absolutely take a hard look at that

      I think I might have to get one. I have both stepped titanium versions and the raffir noble Chaparral maybe get the FRN one so I carry it more then those other ones. Things are ground so nice and thin. I think they are still $90 maybe a little less even with the last price increase. I don't worry to much about weight though but it is nice to have a knife that isn't to damn heavy. I prefer a slimmer knife though so it doesn't take up so much pocket real estate. Even if it is a bit heavy just so I can get my hand in and out of there if I need to get my keys or lighter whatever out of that pocket. The one I have been carrying lately though sure as hell isn't light or that thin lol my Berg Blades Iron Wolf. I absolutely love that knife so I went and got the smaller version the Iron Pup too but I don't really like it as much as the Iron Wolf still an awesome knife. That and the CKF Ossom, Terzoula Cyrus, Pena Lanny's Clip, Reate Starboy are the ones I have carried most lately. Carried my Rex45 Shaman from Knifecenter some too and my DLC M4 BHQ Shaman a bit too since I just got it and my Fradon Lock Hap40 and carbon fiber Delica too but just got that one too. So much thinner then a normal FRN Delica and so much sturdier feeling but it also feels like its double the weight lol.

      Just have to look for sprints and exclusives. So many of those are nearly the same price as a standard model. I don't own a standard Delica or Endura myself because no way can I pay what they ask for them now especially when I only paid $94 for my Cutlery Shoppe Endura and Delica which are Hap40 and have that Zome orange and black finish to the FRN. I paid $106 for my Fradon Lock Delica and that one is carbon fiber and Hap40 paid that same range for my Knifeworks Delica that is s90v and black FRN with blue liners. The way he talking about the Bugout like its so over priced but those Para 3 LW and Delica isn't lol the s30v is a far superior steel to the VG10 and BD1N you get with the Spydercos. One of the reasons I wont buy a Para 3 LW is the steel and they are around $100 now with the price increases every year they will be over $100 next year. Only way I will get a Para 3 LW is the new Spy27 model that is coming, the Rex45 sprint I have on pre order if it gets filled or if I get one of the DLT exclusives with M390 or if anybody else does an exclusive. Those are around $130-145 or so I believe so they are in that same price range as the Bugout and that BHQ exclusive Bugout was $99 on sale for Black Friday.

    3v is an awesome steel not only is it super hard in terms of edge retention but the composition of the steel allows for nearly the best steel of you have to pry or do any there where the blade could bend it’s probably the best pocket knife steel in terms of using to beat the hell out of something and not worry about anything but it loosing an edge.

      The grivory which is just FRN really from Benchmade is plenty strong. The Bugout is a great EDC nothing I would use for heavy duty work though. I love my Para 3s too but even those aren't what I would use for heavy duty work but either are fine for what you would realistically use your EDC knife for, opening boxes, cutting food, opening letters whatever they will handle it. There is all the aftermarket scales too but then you are adding weight if you get titanium, copper, bronze not sure what the difference is with the carbon fiber and G10 scales but they would have a little flex to them as well. I don't want a Para 3 LW because I don't want to pay nearly $100 for BD1N. I want to see upgraded steel. The Spy27 version is coming but I think they are like $135. DLT had their M390 exclusive but they are long sold out. There is the Rex45 sprint coming too I have a pre order on if it gets filled those I think are $145 something like that. If I am carrying a folder that is going to be a bit heavier duty use it would probably be one of my Shamans maybe my Crooked River few others too. I have a few smaller fixed blades too I carry every now and then that would fill the roll good too.

    Question: why do people care so much about how much a knife weighs? I can barely tell the difference and it's often so small it seems irrelevant. I'd understand if you were backpacking across the country or something cause every bit of weight starts adding up but for every day use it doesn't really seem to matter. I carry a pocket knife, flashlight, phone, earphones, wallet, keys, handkerchief, and a whole ass battery bank/hand warmer. I've never really noticed the weight and believe me the battery bank weighs more than all those knives put together. And that's probably nothing compared to what a firearm weighs too so can anyone explain what the big deal about a knifes weight is?

    My CIVIVI Elementum feels better to me than the Bugout. The Bugout is too light, feels fragile and toy like to me...but that's just me. I have a wharncliffe blade Delica as well. My usual everyday carry is a Shaman, but the Elementum is a close 2nd, because of it's lightweight.

    I am a recent subscriber and a huge fan of your work Talon! Quick question - if you had to choose between Para 3 G10 and Para 3 LW, which would you choose?

    • @andrews2190
      @andrews2190 3 года назад

      Not sure if you've picked up a knife yet but I prefer the LW. I have both but I feel myself going for the LW more often especially when the weather warms up. I tend to wear a lot of gym shorts and the LW doesn't swing around or bug me like the normal Para 3 does. The G10 definitely feels better but that doesn't mean the LW is flimsy. Hope this helps.

    As a general rule, to stay safe you should pace yourself, not overexert, rest often, drink plenty of water and eat regularly throughout your hike. There are, however, some specific injuries and afflictions that you need to be aware of so that you can deal with them.

  • @ecksdog

    I think deep carry clips are overrated. 1) weaker by design always have bending issues if snagged. 2) makes it harder to pull knife out of pocket. Less knife to grab.

    • @bossHogOG
      @bossHogOG 4 года назад

      ecksdog I agree. What’s the point? Like anybody cares if you got a pocket knife. And if they do then they likely know what the clip is attached to.

    I do belive that they are coming out eith a better handle matterial for the bugout/bailout so maybe that will help bring some people back. I bought a bugout (ranger green) because i wanted a light, edc knife that could take medium to light use and although i love the style of the mini griptillian i only really want the blue/grey blade hq exclusive one but the bugout was just a bit more affordable for me seeing as how it and my esee 6 are the only over 100 dollar knives i own

  • @paintballalcopone

    Both versions of the bailout are in my opinion the best knife out there from this list. As a former servicemember I understand the marketing of the bailout to us, because when you're out in the field ounces are pounds, and when you're operating in 120°F+ environments a good lightweight knife is amazing. The grivory doesnt feel sturdy but it holds up, and the extra cost is understandable considering Benchmades have arguably a better warranty than spydercos. Also tanto gang, whats better than one point? Two.

    The Para 3 (and Native being similar) are safer because of the way you hold it. Should the lock ever give way, the blade cannot cut your index finger. The worst that happens is that the underside of the blade gimping folds over and pinches your finger.
