    Unpopular opinion:
    1. technically, Chinese-made knives are imports just like German-made knives
    2. the AD20 - $350 for d2 and a shark lock is very very reas... I can't even finish typing this
    3. AARP sounds like the retirement program

DCA, I have to correct you on one thing about Cru-wear. Everyone has been saying about it holding a better edge than D 2. According to Benchmade that is incorrect. Cru-wear is an upgrade in the toughness compared to D2, but as far as edge retention it is actually not as good as D2 on edge retention. I just contacted Benchmade because my Mini Adamas with minor use needed to be sharpened atleast once a week if not more.

Thanks, great presentation! and I’ve added at least 4 knives to my wishlist. I really like those Italian knives like the Lionsteel H1 karambit, and have that gorgeous Viper Turn ramshorn as my next buy. Also definitely picking up a Highball XL to go with my ZT pile, and damn that KC exclusive Scoria is pretty.
I’m a huge Cold Steel fan, I have maybe 30 of them going back to a razor sharp nail nick San Mai tanto folder in 1986, and a 5” Gunsite large voyager in the ‘90’s, and can see why you like the drop forged Bowie, but those cheesy plastic fake stag scales just ruin it for me. Honestly, the last time I saw those was in the matching set of Roy Rogers cap pistols I got for my 4th Birthday in 1960. I loved the look then, but 61 years later my tastes have changed. I haven’t cared for any of the CS drop forged stuff, but do like this great handle / blade design. I’d be all over it at even $25 more if they offered G10 or Micarta handle scales. Looking forward to your 22 knife review next year!

    • @E.L.RipleyAtNostromo
      @E.L.RipleyAtNostromo 2 года назад +1

@@disco4535 I did get one, but was disappointed I couldn’t find a Ramshorn. All anyone had left was the smooth walnut, so I got that, and that model is one that comes with a leather pocket slip instead of a clip, which I think works better for this knife. Funny, I was looking at it last night, and the smooth walnut is growing on me. It locks up super tight, is very sharp, and has little Italian mfr details like the rounded spine and jimping on the back lock. All in all it was a little pricy but I’m glad I got it. In this config it’s like the perfect slightly larger gentleman’s folder.

That is one great collection of knives. Didn‘t expect the Cold Steel Drop Forged Bowie, though.
Personally, I think the Boker AK1 doesn’t get enough attention yet. Coming from Germany, where it is produced, I would like to add that it is a collaboration of Böker and Daily Customs. An important part of it’s concept is that you can buy lots of different, easily interchangeable scales, made from different materials with different inlays etc., so you can „make“ your personal, customized knife in a different way everyday.

    • @panorama4526

It swallows up the knives I was not expecting something that large. You guys are either really really big dudes, like 6’5” or something, or they make a smaller version of this bag.
I wish the bag was about 30% smaller. It would make it much easier to carry around the knives and I could still fit 18 of mine in them.

I think I,'m the only knife guy out there that in general diesn' t love sebenza's designs/looks. I'm sure they are awesome knives (for the money they better be) but the kinda industrial, lots of titanium look isn't for me. I also don't prescribe to the super expensive super duper amazing laser steel thing as a necessity. I work maintenance and use my knives all the time on punishing material. Opening corrosive materials, cutting drywall or ceiling tiles in a pinch, breaking down cardboard etc and most of those knives are at best d2.mostly though Chinese Kershaws so I don't care if I lose one. I have nice nive I carry outside of work but they most of the time staywithing the 300$ range and I but the ones I think look cool and will carry well over anything else. Not knocking others, just my jam.

Hate to be redundant, but when you see an Andrew Demko with mediocre blade steel and plastic handles for $350, and then a Viper with polished stag horn that is butted against a double curved bolster with superior blade steel that is shipped from Italy for$218, it shows how much we pay for the sizzle and not the steak in the USA 😮

The Ontario Rat 1 is a great knife. I have one that I have carried for at least 10 years now as my "chore knife" so it gets a lit of use. It fits my XL hands well, no hot spots, and holds a good edge while being easy to sharpen. It is the best "everyman's knife" since the Buck 110 except it is built a bit tougher. The Victorinox Alox Cadet is another must have knife. It will keep your nails clean and trim and can be whipped out in any social situation to open a package or cut some string without raising an eyebrow from even the most annoying Karen in the room.

That Spyderco looks ugly, too high from the top, blade sits too low at the bottom compared to the handle.

The amount of money you've taken out of my pocket is astounding. I have knives all over the fuckin place and probably only 4 in rotation. It is amazing what Civivi and WE have been pumping out.

That AD20 S has D2 steel and G10 scales for $350. Supposedly that shark lock is the best lock in the industry. That's like me paying $350,000 for a one bedroom ranch house. That has the best lock & security system in the industry. I'm not buying a lock I'm buying a knife. I'm not paying for Andrew Demco lock. I'm buying the knife.
I understand that's a nice knife. But $350 for D2 steel and a G10 handle is ridiculous. I can't believe he has the nerve to blatantly rip people off like that.

In honor of DCA we must re-name the reverse tanto / modified Wharncliffe / bunka styled tip. We must re-name it the Cliffe-point.
If not it'd be a nice homage to late Cliff stamp as well... For the new folks, he was a guy very active on blade forums & a regular RUclips uploader, that really supplied alot of first hand information on the pinnacle performance steels (think Rex-121, Maxamet, 10V and alike), heat treatment and especially sharpening

I nearly wrote a long winded comment that explained how im not an a$$ kisser, but David C. Anderson is an example of excellence achieved. I think he is the ideal representative, liason, voice, whathavyou of the knifeworld. I realized that all though I enjoy watching other reviewers (for example, a shining gem, jacka$$ Batman) but there is a best of list that will influence me more. To put it simply, I'm ordering a drop forged Bowie right now. Thank you for an amazing year David. Now make more Skipjacks!

Hi David. May 2022 be even better for you and your family than 2021. It is amazing how much emphasis you place on the ENERGETIC IMPRINT or "the feel" of these knives. You constantly do this, over and over again. That very same thing, getting the feel of a previously owned blade, is what the Guros of Arnis and Eskrima do as the Pendekars of Silat. I was personally taught, to hold a used knife in your hand, and feel it's previous owner's energetic imprint. If it's cold, the owner did some bad things with that blade. You David, are doing "high level aspects" of Eskrima without any formal training. IF You ever get a chance, you ought to find a Filipino Eskrima School, and study the art. No doubt there is something there for you. Love and Respect
    Kevin Cage

Can anyone logically explain the price on the Boker AK1 to me? I LOVE Boker and I absolutely LOVE that knife but I can't even begin to entertain purchasing one for that price for what it is.... I swear Boker's pricing model is just chucking a dart at a wall of random prices.

Help... looking for a folder with top flipper (index finger) 4.5" length +/-.25 or so... not stupid heavy.. or ultra bulky in pocket...love my Kershaw(s) action... just got a civivi but not as long as I thought it would be.. smooth action on both. This may be pocket concealed in Michigan.. so I don't want a pointed stilleto or sharp edge on both sides either.. so yes it is a just in case self defense but used as edc / boat / fishing.. I would rather it be a wolf in sheep's clothing.. civivi brazen in demascus and brown handle wasn't too aggressive looking.. also love my Kershaw cryo ... the Kershaw blackout looks a little aggressive.. but has a solid grip for my large hands..looking for about an inch longer blade than these but open to suggestions...(should also make the handle a good fit for my XL hands).. I'm thinking a drop point or tanto looks more like a hunting knife in pocket.. i.e. to stay out of hot water in the rare scenario of a basic check from Leo for a routine thing.. only to be preventative. I could also wear it in a sideways belt sheath on my waist as a backup plan...Seems like everything I look at is 3.3. 3.5ish.. 3.8... thinking to stay under $140 ++. But open on that for a great option.. thanks for any insight.. love the videos....

I'm looking at a 4" pointed tanto from crkt the premium version is way out of budget.. I don't like the cheap plastic handle on the cheap version but it is an amazingly bang for buck... I will look for something in between...

Hey DCA, would you suggest to CIVIVI that their Cogent would benefit from a thumb hole? It’s always nice to have another opening option, and unlike studs, doesn’t get in the way for snagging or sharpening. Maybe a sprint or exclusive in ManaCut

DCA!!! What are odds that houge will make a version of the k320 with G10 or micarta handles? I have one and it's pretty great, but... It does feel kind of plastic. Very front heavy, and not so premium. Do you think it's popular enough to get an upgrade?

I would like to see more variants in the Civivi Odium knife series. I would also like the Spyderco Dragonfly 2 Wharncliffe in all black like the Manbug.
