Born and raised in the Okanagan. Left the Okanagan in 2000, lived in Van for 19 years, moved back to the Okanagan because of how fast Vancouver grew and hoping to recreate my childhood by moving back and enjoy a slower pace of life. Well that was not the case, crime per capita is the highest in the country, Too many people with the lack of infrastructure to support, not to mention the threat of fires every summer. And unless you are into wineries and own a boat to be on the lake, there is not alot to do as far as entertainment. We were able to tolerate 2 years, and made the leap to Alberta. Best move we ever made, wish we did it sooner.

I am in Penticton and was outreach worker on the coast. Homelessness is the same issue. We generally see the folks wanting to take advantage of free things and not serious about getting real help. Their camps are generally an eyesore but remember this, The cities did not create this, our govt. did. I recently got back from Vancouver which is at least 10 times worse.

I can't disagree. I live in West Kelowna after living in Kelowna for 20 years and love it. The back country is so accesable my quad has a garage door opener. 1 hr drive to amazing emerald green lakes like Kentucky and killer fishing like Pynask. Thought of moving to other towns in the interior but they're all dumpy , no cultures and good luck finding a decent contractor to do anything. Kelowna is 15 minutes away but you can still jump on your bike and do everything.

I'm from Van and live in Edmonton and no they aren't shipping people from Edmonton. @deeejayeee 2 месяца назад +2

@@markhoffman I used to work for social services and the only thing they would help with would be a return trip back to your community. This is a completely different statement than, 'shipping their homeless here'. In other words, they aren't gonna send you somewhere you aren't from because you would have no family or support system there to help and it would be just moving the problem to another location. Our big cities have far more resources, jobs and safety nets to help the poor than a small place like Kelowna which is why the poor end up in large cities. As I said before, the housing crisis started with our current leadership in Canada and today there are encampment everywhere...not just big cities.
