I can't disagree. I live in West Kelowna after living in Kelowna for 20 years and love it. The back country is so accesable my quad has a garage door opener. 1 hr drive to amazing emerald green lakes like Kentucky and killer fishing like Pynask. Thought of moving to other towns in the interior but they're all dumpy , no cultures and good luck finding a decent contractor to do anything. Kelowna is 15 minutes away but you can still jump on your bike and do everything.

Kelowna is a shit show nowadsys if you were there in the early 70s to the early ninties was absolutely beautiful i live here sadly getti g the hell out of the okanogan the water problem is only gettig worse to bloody many people creamed into an area that could sustain maybe 15000 not what 74 or 80,000 thou 45 or more minutes to cross the bridje no plans for infrastructure or upgrades quit promoting this area we cant sustain what we already have wake the hell up from a westbank first nation elder you yahoos ate destroying the besutiful valley we have lived here for hundreds of years

Reading some comments impresses me a lot... I am from Mexico and I tell you honestly, the quality of life they have there is very good and the problem of crime and homeless is nothing. Security is unreal and incomparable 😅 (Personal opinion) Value what you have 🙏🏻

Vernon, BC was an incredible destination a decade ago. The only street issues were pretty much people passing through, the only "society" was the John Howard, where the parolees are mainly white collar or individuals that do NOT want to end up back in prison. Far enough AWAY from Kelowna (big city issues), but like all places, it's suffering some big changes. Some forums (I was planning five years ago to basically retire there) are now FULL of comments on sketchy people walking right onto their property in broad daylight, riffeling through "stuff" to see what they can sell for "kash" or trade with their dealer. What happened?? My GUESS is find out if there's a "program" attracting the nutbars like Kamloops or Kelowna. There's so much outdoors to do, and do inexpensively. you can WALK across the town in minutes, festivals are RUN byi Vernonites but take place in Armstrong and Lumby (grants, Fed. money, native money). Historic farms, a ski destination, water, hiking, Coldstreams organic orchards, Armstrong Fair, Cherryville, low cost camping in the parks, usually spots available. My friend recently passed ran a TRAP LINE up Sugar Lake: she planted a snowmobile in a TREE and it's still there!!! in the Monashees yhou're pretty much GUARANTEED a moose! Lots of stuff close by for kids to do and enjoy safely.

If you love constant traffic congestion and traffic lights move to Kelowna. The Okanogan is not for me

Born and raised in the Okanagan. Left the Okanagan in 2000, lived in Van for 19 years, moved back to the Okanagan because of how fast Vancouver grew and hoping to recreate my childhood by moving back and enjoy a slower pace of life. Well that was not the case, crime per capita is the highest in the country, Too many people with the lack of infrastructure to support, not to mention the threat of fires every summer. And unless you are into wineries and own a boat to be on the lake, there is not alot to do as far as entertainment. We were able to tolerate 2 years, and made the leap to Alberta. Best move we ever made, wish we did it sooner.

You missed hidden gem and a little more expensive areas further down Okanagan Landing Road/Eastside Road. Sunset Properties, The Outback, etc. Still Vernon because I live in one and my address says so. 🙂

The only difference bewtween Calgary and Kelowna is the women. 1 city has disgusting self entitled cows, the other has a stampede.

Best advice. Don't move to Kelowna. It is becoming overcrowded and infrastructure is overwhelmed. The airport and the city are poorly managed.

I once visited Kelowna. The country side around it is nice but the city itself seemed too overcrowded and too much traffic for my liking.

The most affordable places! Nowhere 😂 BC is a dumpster fire. Beautiful scenery but I don't miss the snobby people in BC or the ridiculous cost of living.

You know where is cheaper and better than Kelowna? The States. Lower income taxes, high salaries and cheaper real estate. WA state specifically has no income tax. Wages for healthcare workers are about 40% -50% more when you include the currency exchange.

Honestly, everything you’ve mentioned is way worse in South Africa, taxes are insane, the homeless population is majority of our population. Except for the wild fires, we pretty much have it much worse here. Looking forward to coming that side and hoping to make some friends!

A tricky question, but how easy is it for the “average” couple to get into the housing market? Over here in Sydney Australia it is near enough impossible right now, and the rental market is through the roof. Me and my partner are both professionals and struggle to save for a house. So we are considering moving out of Australia next year.
