My outdoor active at about £8 more gives turn by turn and a whole heap of tracks n trails. So does this give 1-25k, 1-50k or just a topo? and can you download directly to a Garmin sat nav as mobile phone use has poor battery limitations and can be difficult to use either in rain poor visibility or wearing gloves in winter.
As a long time user of digital mapping they can be great but have their downsides as well. My best combination is a paper map and compass together with a sat nav that takes AA batteries.
BTW What three words can be useless too, thanks for your video though

Yep, for UK it gives access to OS - 1-50,000 (Land Ranger) and 1-25,000 (Explorer) plus the larger scale road map.
I have used Outdoor Active (and View Ranger before Outdoor Active took it over and ruined the App) but it doesn't tick as many boxes for me as Footpath. I've also used Memory Map in the past.
I have a trusty Garmin Etrex, which comes on longer trips with me - but I can't remember when I last actually had to use it, or paper maps. A good USB power pack (for emergencies) and a stylus for use with gloves are good additions if using a phone, but with Footpath I generally, set the route send it to my watch and never have to look at or open my phone again.

Good to have some healthy competition and provides a nice simple easy interface. But feel like I have to agree with @RamblingTog. Outdoor active has a lot of nice to have features and a lot of extra user content.

Totally agree, always good to have choices and as needs differ so will the best choices for individuals.
When forced to move from View Ranger to Outdoor Active - I found the OA app lacking compared to what View Ranger used to give, which was frustrating as they had bought them out. I found OAs subscription model (Pro and Pro+) annoying, eg even though subscribed to Pro for £26.99, you have to upgrade to the Pro+ at £53.99 for Bike and Alpine Maps and to Preview in 3D.
I also found the key/route type non standard colours on Outdoor Active's own maps confusing and it seemed to use more battery than View Ranger used to. The "Community" functions were something I don't use so of little value to me, and I found they just cluttered the App, for me a simple and uncluttered App UI is more important when using it out in the field.
This is what sent me on the hunt for a replacement and Footpath came to the rescue. When my Footpath subscription expires, I might give OA another try (if they will still give a free trial) to see if they have improved.

I have an Elite subscription to this app which unlocked all fratures. However i do have one gripe with it...There is no option in the list of map styles to have 3D Satellite view for me to see my planned route? I notice in your review you have the 3D Satellite option but mine just has normal Satellite view on my Elite subscription. Is there something i need to enable? Thanks

Hi James - Satellite 3D is a map style available to Footpath Elite users exclusively on Apple devices. Are you using Android by any chance?

@@ExploreVanUK thanks for the supper quick response. Yes Android, that's a shame . Hopefully it comes to Android users otherwise I'm back to OS maps for the 3D fly through mode. Gutted.
