Sam Gagner never gets brought up in the conversation because outside of that shootout move his game is very basic. He’s a great depth player and actually just played his 1000th career game earlier this week. Love Gags, class act!
He started as a super talented offensive player that didnt bring much more to now hes a role player who lost his offensive touch but can still help teams
Some guys are great in shootouts and some are not and it doesn’t necessarily mean that they’re the greatest offensive players in the rest of their game and vise versa. Gretzky was the first to tell you that he was not that great on shootouts but Mario Lemieux was incredible. He was one of the first to come at the goalie more slowly. Jonathan Toews was amazing in shootouts.
Fun fact: The Mason Raymond spin-o-rama penalty shot was outlawed after the success it had, likely because it was too difficult to determine if the puck keeps moving forward with the momentum, as it should, or if it goes back at all
Raymond's Spin-o-rama is now illegal in shootouts. Mainly because using the technique would pull the puck backwards, which is against the shootout rule that says the puck must be in a continuous forward motion.
Historically Toews is the best shootout player in the league, he leads all time career shootout goals with 52. His percentage is also over 47% in that span, which is second best in the league within players who scored over 35.
If you check out the World Juniors shootout between Canada and USA, 2007, you can see how dominant Toews was at the shootout since before joining the NHL. He went three times and put all three in the net, with different moves each time.
They should've shown a slowed down replay, but Barkov was lifting the puck with one hand far side, which is why its so impressive and impossible to stop.
Aucoin went 5/5 in shootouts in that string of games. A shootout ends a game, so those were his 5 consecutive attempts spread across 5 different shootouts and even more games. Dude was lights out for Arizona in the shootout.
I always thought of “the Datsyuk” move as when he drags it from left to right on his backhand and then shoots forehand glove side when his body is like at or below the goal line and the puck and his stick is behind him.
Shootout goals are legal as long as the puck is always going forward even if you go super slow. The spinnarama one was on the line and could be argued was illegal because you kinda have to move the puck backward to do the spin
The Aucoin one you asked why it's so special: it made him 5 for 5 on the season, which is pretty exceptional on its own, made more amazing because he's a defensemen, who almost never participate in the shootout or penalty shots.
I recommend checking out the mighty ducks dynamic duo. A,so if you wanna see one of the most underrated goalies in probably hockey history ms gigure was a beast
Pavel Datsyuk is a goat 🐐 By far one of the most under valued players and played with 44 Hendrix Zetterburg another game changer that the 2 were unstoppable together
Mike Ribeiro was kinda missing from this... Then again, he had like 60,000 shootout moves :D And I'm surprised Crosby and Kane were missing, given that they've had 'signature shootout moves' like Crosby's slow, skewed approach where he reads the goalie and goes forehand, 5-hole or backhand and Kane's slow approach with 10,000,000 stick-handles until he has an open net :D Oh and, the spin move was outlawed... probably because of puck forward motion stuff, but it's a damn good thing either way! It's cheesy as all hell and kinda unfair.
What an awesome idea for a video, that's nothing Gagne once got eight points in a single game. He joined a very elite club when he got the eight points
“Johnny Toes” as you call him, his signature move is just waiting for the goalie to flinch and fires it 5 hole. As a goalie who played at the college level, this should be stoppable in my opinion. He must just be really good at reading these goalies and if he doesn’t see what he likes he has plenty of time to change it up and bring it in and deke
Definitley need Adam to react to Pittsburg announcer Mike Lange top ten calls TSN, I feel like he’ll have the best commentary to the legend of catch phrases!
yo Adam, been watching for a while, if you like shootouts, you should check out the shootout between USA and Russia for the olympics in sochi 2014. It's a pretty good one. keep up the great videos homie, love the content.
That slow approach isn't illegal, as long as the Puck is still moving, and is in contact with the stick,it's legal, otherwise it would be whistled dead if the Puck stopped, or contact with the stick was lost.
Pavel Datsyuk's shootout percentage of 40.8% is only the 81st all-time among players with at least 10 shootout attempts. If you look at those with the most attempts, Datsyuk's 98 are the 13th highest. Among those 13, only 3 have a higher success rate -- Jonathan Toews (in this video), Frans Nielsen (in this video), and Radim Vrbata. How did this video omit Peter Forsberg and Nikita Kucherov? They have moves named for them.
Missing some of the best but I still love it. Backhand forehand is the ole-reliable deke for a shootout. Gagner is a pretty good player but he's nothing noteworthy unfortunately. Top 2 line forward if that and knows how to pot the puck.
@@Timmycoo No I share your opinion I missed the last sentence of your comment mentioning his strengths. Sadly solid players don’t often see highlight time for doing the right stuff day in and day out.
Adam: “I feel like he (Toews) shoots early compared to the others.” When you have pint point accuracy, you don’t need to bother trying to razzle dazzle the goalie. Just shoot it and put it in and go home. 😊
Love your videos adam ur a legend bro, only things that pop in to my mind about eberle is the world juniors tieing goal, and him gettin snubbed by the girl at the end lol
That spin move is now illegal. The puck cannot stop or go backwards at any point during the penalty shot. I personally think there should also be a 5 second time limit. Either that, or have a defending player start at the far blue line and chase the shot taker. Those incredibly slow moving ones with 500 stick handles are just stupid.
I don't know how long I've been watching ya Couser, but fuck your comments never fail to make me laugh. Soundbite gems on this one 😂 Cheers dude! From Toronto 🇨🇦
If you want to get more into hockey you should find rookie season record set by teemu selanne one of my favorite players of all time You will be blown away @Adam reactions
Cam neely (he was a banger and a scorer) or Ray Borque (One of the greatest defenseman) both of the bruins would be great reactions . Newly would probably be more up your alley . Great videos as always yah handsome prick (just joshin yah) it's Boston humor
Sam Gagner never gets brought up in the conversation because outside of that shootout move his game is very basic. He’s a great depth player and actually just played his 1000th career game earlier this week. Love Gags, class act!
Gagner doesn't get the respect he deserves because he's somewhat of a journeyman on top of his game shifting from flash to fundamentals
He started as a super talented offensive player that didnt bring much more to now hes a role player who lost his offensive touch but can still help teams
He did have some incredible in game highlights early in his career.
Love Gag's, every team he's on he's Dad.

Yeah. At the very least the puck stop in place for 1-2 second which also make it illegal
Jason Blake used to do it years earlier as well and as a goalie it annoyed the hell out me and seemed illegal.
It stops.
nice live stream from 2016 its still going lol
If you can find it, Sam Gagner is the only active player to have had an 8 point game. He just played his 1 thousandth game, with the Jets.
You should watch the whole TJ Oshie shootout from the Olympics
I’m surprised for all the Datsyuk goals they showed, they didn’t show his change up against Boston.
#13 Pavel Datsyuk aka "The Magic Man" has his last name as an adjective for scoring..."thats a Datsyukian goal"!
Raymond's Spin-o-rama is now illegal in shootouts. Mainly because using the technique would pull the puck backwards, which is against the shootout rule that says the puck must be in a continuous forward motion.

I know he didn't do it but once, but the Marek Malik one against the Capitals way back when was so gangster
They should've shown a slowed down replay, but Barkov was lifting the puck with one hand far side, which is why its so impressive and impossible to stop.

I had no idea Petteri Nummelin had the highest shooting percentage, at 80% (10+ attempts). Never would have guessed that
Datsyuk isnt called the magic man for nothing
Jussi Jokinen was a shootout connoisseur. he went for something like 14 or 15 shootout goals the first year or two they INTRODUCED the shootout.
The Aucoin one you asked why it's so special: it made him 5 for 5 on the season, which is pretty exceptional on its own, made more amazing because he's a defensemen, who almost never participate in the shootout or penalty shots.

My favorite thing about Koivus shot is that almost all of them bounce back out of the net
Pavel Datsyuk is a goat 🐐
By far one of the most under valued players and played with 44 Hendrix Zetterburg another game changer that the 2 were unstoppable together
Gagner is one of the more underrated players of the last 10 years, just recently cracked 500 points and 1000 games
Mike Ribeiro was kinda missing from this... Then again, he had like 60,000 shootout moves :D

I miss Sam Gagner in Edmonton 🥲
I’m happy to have him with WPG!
Imagine having to face Toews and Patty Kane in the same shootout....
“Johnny Toes” as you call him, his signature move is just waiting for the goalie to flinch and fires it 5 hole.
As a goalie who played at the college level, this should be stoppable in my opinion. He must just be really good at reading these goalies and if he doesn’t see what he likes he has plenty of time to change it up and bring it in and deke
i have that datsyuk jersey from the thumbnail! he's my favorite!
Datsyuk is the G.O.A.T
Definitley need Adam to react to Pittsburg announcer Mike Lange top ten calls TSN, I feel like he’ll have the best commentary to the legend of catch phrases!
I’d say datsyuk would have highest percentage I think his career overall was over 50%
You need to react to the Great Eight, Oven Chicken, breaking Gordie Howe's goal record of 801 by scoring his 802nd goal at home in Washington!
“The Electrifying Sam Gagner” I really like that, the Jets announcers should bring that back!
Barkov was shooting with one hand his weak hand on the back of the stick. So sick
The shootout is crazy
Was hoping you would do some more NHL shootout reactions! The skill these players have is incredible! 😊👍
Moritz Seider highlights please

Adam please look up best MMA submissions. Should be a good video.

cause Forsberg didn't take too many shootouts
They actually banned the spinorama since the shooter technically moves the puck backwards when doing it
Not having Giroux on this list is criminal
Missing some of the best but I still love it. Backhand forehand is the ole-reliable deke for a shootout. Gagner is a pretty good player but he's nothing noteworthy unfortunately. Top 2 line forward if that and knows how to pot the puck.
Sam Gagner is nothing noteworthy? 1001 games going strong, solid player on just about any line, and did you see those hands?
@@jonahmfunk9744 Oh I love him as a player but I meant highlights. Sorry of my opinion differs.
@@Timmycoo No I share your opinion I missed the last sentence of your comment mentioning his strengths. Sadly solid players don’t often see highlight time for doing the right stuff day in and day out.
You should check out the mini shootouts. NESN used to show kids doing this between periods of Boston Bruins games
“Every bodies fine” the goalies might disagree with that
Adam: “I feel like he (Toews) shoots early compared to the others.”
When you have pint point accuracy, you don’t need to bother trying to razzle dazzle the goalie. Just shoot it and put it in and go home. 😊
New Year's around the corner, you gotta check out the history of the Winter Classic, pure hockey.
Why not watch winter classic? Only 1 or 2 days away.
Come on, Adam. It would be fun.
Happy New Year Adam!!!!!! Have a blessed year
And the Nikita Kucherov "no shot" is the best of all time.
McDavids slow approach pen is filth, was hoping we would see it in this comp
Kinda suprised Zuccarello isnt in this video, he has some amazing signature move shootout goals
Love your videos adam ur a legend bro, only things that pop in to my mind about eberle is the world juniors tieing goal, and him gettin snubbed by the girl at the end lol
disclaimer: barkov is doing it one handed!
A shootout video without Patrick Kane?!
Missing Matt Hendricks "Paralyzer"
Worst NASCAR crashes of the 2022 season
That spin-move is now illegal.
hold on a second laddie, how many of these guys are using their actual game sticks?
That spin move is now illegal. The puck cannot stop or go backwards at any point during the penalty shot. I personally think there should also be a 5 second time limit. As a Caps fan: You are right about Kuznetsov.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
almost feel bad for the goalie... seems like 1v1 would be an impossible task for the goalies
You should react to Top 10 Team Canada Goals in recent history
Back to hockey content, good deal 👍
let me just itch this scratch.. oh adam i love you
We ditched the Christmas jerseys a long time ago. Our new threads are a whole lot nicer.

You should react to oshie’s shootout for USA in the olympics
They only showed The Datsyuk twice wtf.... basic dekes are not his signature. It's the toe drag top shelf shot bro.
Put on all the goalie gear, and get some shootouts on ya, then tell me the goalies aren't trying lmao
Should see suzukis dirty shootout and penalty shot goals..
You should react to Sam Gagner’s 8 point game
react to trevor zegras highlights
Including the commercial he did for Bauer on a southern California beach.
Cam neely (he was a banger and a scorer) or Ray Borque (One of the greatest defenseman) both of the bruins would be great reactions . Newly would probably be more up your alley . Great videos as always yah handsome prick (just joshin yah) it's Boston humor
These aren't penalty shots, they're tie-breakers.
It would have been nice to see some Mike Ribiero shots, even if he was a huge show boater.
No Patrick kane in this weird
Toews is pronounced "Taves" . There are a bunch of them in my town.
You thought those were good, well watch highlight shootout moments in history, the time where the players got more fancier
Gagner West is hilarious because gagner means win in French and Ye has been a big L for a while
no zuccarello?!
You can't use spins anymore in shootouts
anything but normal for to do a one handed backhand like barkov
And the "spin a roonie" is now illegal
Yes Kizy is a very cocky player but thats why we love him!
He is wristshot shooting
no patrik kane?

Likeit
react to this is why you’re the best
Pavel datsyuk....the fuckin highlight hog
The spinorama move is Bs because In a shoot out the puck has to stay moving forward
