A lot of people falsely attribute Iron Man being the sole film that put RDJ back on the map, it was actually this film that got the ball rolling and got him back into critic's good graces. I can all but guarantee that his performance in this film got tons of studio heads saying yes to him as Iron Man.
I think what gives this film its "unique appeal" is how it has no single classic "tone". It's not just straight up funny, dark and brooding, romantic or action-packed etc. yet at the same time it's also not a typical attempt at NOT having a classic tone, like being "quirky" and "self-aware", but just for the sake of being different or appearing smart. It's kind of an unconventional mix of its own. Playing it straight and parodying, often contradictory, yet it still somehow neatly ties together.
The movie is absolutely amazing, much better than this trailer suggests (although the trailer was alright). A lot of times, the trailer will cut of the punchline or not show you the whole picture (for a reason, as this movie really earned it's R rating, and no, it's not primarily about violence, but about dark humor). I don't want to spoil those scenes for you, just watch the movie and thank me later. It's amazing.
this movie change 2 actors careers... Val Kilmer starts making a shit Direct to DVD Movies... Robert Downey Jr. makes Iron Man, Sherlock Holmes, Avengers, and became one of the most active and most payed actors in Hollywood right now... :D
Yeah, it's really lame in this trailer, but that's because the actual "punchline" was cut off. In the movie, the exchange goes like this: VK: Look up "idiot" in the dictionary, you know what you'll find? RDJ: A picture of me? VK: No! The definition of the word idiot -- which you fucking are! lol
This movie is SO much better than the trailer makes it look.
This movie will forever be on my top ten list.

Just watch the iron man movies... its like.. the character RDJr plays... just as a man with unlimited funds
I'm glad it didn't, sequels often ruin great films.
Itd been funny if at the end they said
Val - "good kisser"
Rdj - "fuck you!"
