Our reincarnated souls are surounded by another souls from our circle or greater outer circle. Each with purpose to learn something and having support in current reincarnation.
It's one of those things that takes perspective to figure out. It's funny because it all depends on how you look at it - like if you believe that people have souls and that the soul defines the person then it's gross. If you believe that everyone here on earth is just made of electrical signals and matter that is constantly being recycled inside the planet anyway then technically you and your partner *could* be made up of material that once belonged to your family (parents, siblings, offspring, ancestors, etc). If you believe social constructs are not worth anything then the whole family thing doesn't make sense to begin with because Alex (RDJ)'s body is not biologically related to his (ex)wife/daughter's, but if social constructs are VERY important to you then Alex's relationship with Miranda would be gross even if he had not been reincarnated - what matters is that he feels a strong paternal connection to the Miranda for whatever reason (so the relationship is unusual by default). If you don't believe in any of this being possible both from a scientific or fantastical point of view then you are simply seeing this from the lens of the writers so you would probably see the relationship as highly irregular, but if you are able to suspend your belief (or are into fringe sciences, like Genetic Memory and Collective Consciousness) then you'd be more open to accept the sort of "conditional reincarnation" situation shown in the movie.

But I fell in love when I was a teenager and saw him on ally mcbeal and then re watched this. I had always loved the song but until now I’d forgotten it was for this movie 🥺😍🥰❤️
I don't know if it's so important but if you pay attention all 4 stars from this movie are wearing the watch in the right hand. (Like me) I did notice from the first time I saw the film more than 30 years ago.
I can remember as a teen seeing this for the first time and being so uplifted by it. I’ve never had that feeling from a movie since. What a lovely, funny, happy film. One of the best.
