- As brushes are unavailable, your options are: 1) crimping, 2) soldering or 3) fit in an extra brush piece with no wire. Detail work, but why spend hundreds when $2 can make it work?
Many years ago I took starter brushes, filed them down to fit and used them to fix the window motor of my pickup. Never failed again. I had the truck 9 years and pushed it over 300k. I'm working on a starter now, and ran across your vid. Diving into my starter for the 4th time now. I've lost contact to the control terminal/ pull-in coil. But first- lunch!
Right on
Any tips on keeping the brushes recessed when putting back together and getting the brushes over the commutator?
wouldn't putting the add-on piece behind the brush between the spring and the brush be better?
Also great video I'm about to try this with my snowblower starter.
That works, too
And your add-on piece could be anything if you put it behind it, even just a piece of wood too.
Wood does not conduct electricty @@kevin.afton_
Thank you so much for the info. You just saved me $500. And the trouble of trying to find replacement parts witch im finding out is not so easy for my zr7. Thank look forward to more video. Sigh Frankie. C..
Glad I could help
When i serviced my motor, was there any chnce i might have assembled the brushes wrongly? Motor seems to rotate the opposite way now and my starter clutch just spins freely and won’t crank when i press the electric start.
Oh yes. Very wrongly assembled. Switch the wires around.
Does the motor normally rotate clockwise or counter clockwise?
5:30 Goodntight "that's what she said ya!" Thanks Chief. If you are in dire need of brushes go to harbour freight or Walmart and get 1 or 2 angle grinders and remove the brushes!
What are you trying to do in the video ?
solution options for limited markets
I've worked on motorcycles and cars for a long time I recently tried fixing the starter like that didn't work too well I think it turn the engine 5 times before it burned the brushes
Overcurrent is burning the brushes off. Somewhere these is a stuck bearing or something is misaligned, causing extra resistance ...
theoverengineer if you've ever rebuilt starter you know that most starters don't have bearings there bushings
Somewhere - I said
Find the source of friction
@@michaelthomas788 my waverunner starter has bearings in it
im replacing the brushes on my cb500 only after 20,000 miles.. is that normal?
Not quite normal at all, but if they're worn down, not much can be done besides replacement
Where can I get new brushes for $2??
From an alternator / starter place, might look like this at 3:45 ruclips.net/video/BLmZAQeMM9o/видео.html
Ace hardware
So much wrongness
1. Not ground brush, positive
2. Not soldered, spot welded
3. Not friction fit, spot welded
what is wrong if the starter spinning in wrong way after i change the bush and bush body starter?
For my starter motor, fitting the middle section of the starter motor, which has the magnets, the wrong way round caused it to spin the wrong way.
Where you bought this carbon???
Just found some at a used starter repair shop. I asked for it nicely, it was free.
Add on ? Super glue
?
A big enough chunk (nothing too thin) will stay in the sleeve by friction, no glue or anything that impedes electrical conduction is needed.
Thanks for replying, ok that's wonderful info, thanks 😊
