    If you mix some of the powder graphite into the epoxy, it should help the conductivity.

    This is a very good video on making motor brushes for the handyman. Instead of just using super glue how about a mix of super glue and carbon or graphite dust ??? I have had luck with this method years ago. Do not remember if the dust type or should I say hacksaw shaving mixed with the glue. For some reason the reaction with isocyanate adhesive made things hot you could smell it Jake. Did not fail when I tested the bond on brushes including heating part of the experiment. That is all I remember Sir.
    Keep on making great videos fealla too.

    Thanks for presenting some alternatives.. I suck at soldering, so it was good to see that soldering just isn't a very good way to do this. Epoxy it is!

    YEAH!!! make your own brushes.. this is awesome. this is exactly the kind of information i needed.
    turned out the motor for my car aerial brushes are no longer available. this is a practical means to keep it running with original gear.
    thank you very much for the research and posting your findings.

      There is no need of graphite Powder in epoxy... because steel spring contact with carbon....carry the current 😊

    I need to fix an abs pump for my Honda Fit/Jazz, due to age (2008), I couldn't find any carbon brushes... If I buy some good quality carbon brushes (ex.makita), could I attache the copper wires to each other instead of attaching the wire to the copper brush? Thank you.

    This is great. Can one solder the wire from the brush to the brass cartridge the carbon brush is housed in?

    • @JakeMarvinVillegas
      @JakeMarvinVillegas  9 месяцев назад

      Good day sir, yes you can do that but it makes replacement a little bit difficult as you need to remove the solder before replacing the carbon brush

    Hey I have a DC motor from an ABS module unit from a hybrid car. Do you know if any carbon brush is ok to use if I just grind it down to size and bond a correct sized copper wire to the brush? I tried it and it got toasted, but I think I did a bad job and the wire was too thin. Also this DC motor has 3 carbon brushes for some reason. Why is that?

    • @JakeMarvinVillegas
      @JakeMarvinVillegas  7 месяцев назад

      Good day Sir, maybe the carbon brush is of low quality. Which part or what kind of carbon brush did you grind to size? Maybe its not good enough quality. Try buying carbon brushes from Makita and grind it to size. As for the 3 carbon brush on a dc motor I have yet to see one for myself so I cant help you on that 😞

    • @theory816
      @theory816 7 месяцев назад +1

      @@JakeMarvinVillegas Ok I'll order the Makita brush and grind it down. The DC motor I have is from an ABS module.

      You can test it using a growler sir or through a multimeter by measuring the resistance. There are a lot of videos here in youtube on how to do that i hope your dc motor fix soon

    How to biuld comutator?

  • @ccfmfg
    @ccfmfg 8 месяцев назад +1

    Just use a self tapping screw.

    • @JakeMarvinVillegas
      @JakeMarvinVillegas  8 месяцев назад

      It might damage the commutator sir when the carbon brush wore out

    • @ccfmfg
      @ccfmfg 8 месяцев назад

      @@JakeMarvinVillegas You shouldn't ever be running the Brushes that short. Usually the Mfgr lengths the brush wire to be short enough to stop the brush and cause a loss of contact with the commutator before the original brush wire nut buried inside the brush from coming in contact with the commutator. so just using a short screw which does not have to be self tapping or steel, it can be brass, copper or aluminum can be used safely in the back of the brush to retain the brush wire without hazard. You could also center drill the brush clear thru it's axis with a hole just big enough for the wire then crimp or solder a small shortened piece of uninsulated copper electrical connector for that wire size to one end and after counter boring the center axis hole thru maybe 3/4 of the way from the commutator side of the brush just big enough for the connector piece to slide in and bottom in the counter bored hole retaining it. You would have slightly less brush contact and slightly shorter brush life but it probably wouldn't matter that much especially if You didn't have access to epoxy. if you use to much epoxy you could drastically reduce the amount of electrical contact from wire to brush. But I could be wrong. All this is just crap I derived from reading stuff off the Bath Room Stall Walls in the Head at the Avionics Building while in a Marine Aviation Maintenance Unit.

    Jb weld. Since it already has good conductivity. You just need it to stick and handle heat. The brushes won't get hot enough to affect the chemical weld

    • @JakeMarvinVillegas
      @JakeMarvinVillegas  Год назад

      Yes Sir, even if its not epoxy as long as it can handle the heat from the commutator and carbon brush its good to go. By any chance do you have an adhesive in mind aside from super glue or epoxy Sir?
