    Great review! This narrows down what this laptop is best suited for. I'm a bit surprised to hear the Resolve issues, yet intrigued by* the Kdenlive performance. Overall a good laptop it would seem.

      Yes indeed! Kdenlive performed really well as mentioned. Resolve is just too darn picky about GPU's and its drivers

    I have the S76 Adder WS, and I love it. It doesn't have much of a battery life, but it has the power to do most of what you want. I use it for work, and I play Steam games on it. It is my daily driver. S76 has sold me. I will always buy S76 from now on.

      Indeed! They are growing well in popularity as well and I hope they continue to sell more so they can make more! About time Linux got it's own "Dell" or "HP"

    Why am I watching this video on my Pangolin?

  • @mobilemiall
    @mobilemiall 8 месяцев назад +2

    I have had a pre-Pangolin (pang13) for eight months. It is my third System76 machine, the second is a nearly four year old Gazelle that I now use as my desktop machine. Before that I had a gen 1 Lemur. As for the Pangolin, battery life and general usability is outstanding, one of the few laptops you can still find with the wide selection of ports (including a LAN port). It has enough guts to run Win10 in a VM for my uses...but so did my gen1 Lemur. I still prefer to use my Gazelle for any real CPU/GPU intensive work, but it's battery life runs out in less than two hours if you're working it hard (almost five hours just web surfing in battery mode).
    Back to the Pangolin, I think the Gazelle has a better keyboard, and it absolutely has a better trackpad. I have to double tap in the Pangolin's upper left quadrant or it doesn't register.

    So. This video has been out for a month and has 3.3k views. I think a lot of people bounced from the video because of the audio clipping issue. I'm sorry, but you can't expect to retain viewers when the audio is this bad. While the audio might make up a tiny fraction of the file size for a video is is actually half of the video's content. Bad audio is the number one thing that will kill an otherwise good video. You would have been better off dubbing the video at this point.

    When System76 make a laptop with more than 1080p and more than 60hz and more than 300nits I will buy one. Until then I will not. The Framework 16 has a 1600p 165Hz 500nits panel with 100% DCP-P3 and VRR/Freesync. I'm happy to pay extra for a good panel - it's what I'm going to be looking at for some years...

    I guess that comes with the version based off the LTS with Linux kernel 5.16? The next Ubuntu based LTS has kernel 6.8 and has worked quite well for me using a Ryzen 5600G. I've been running Lubuntu 24.04 since they started the daily builds in November and both gaming and OBS have been problem free. The few cosmetic problems I had were all resolved and runs great for me. Hopefully the next version of Pop!_OS will get things running better.

    • @thenoplanchannel
      @thenoplanchannel  10 месяцев назад +3

      We're excited for the Cosmic desktop as well! It's shaping up to be really nice. I do know Pop!_OS is a little behind on the Kernel versions, but if that's what's needed to make this run smoother, they should have a newer kernel on shipment.

    • @mmstick
      @mmstick 10 месяцев назад +6

      The kernel in Pop 22.04 is Linux 6.6, and 6.8 is currently going through testing to release soon. We skipped 6.7 due to regressions. Any required kernel patches would already be merged into our 6.6 kernel before a product is shipped.

I heavily customized and modified pop os looks and other stuff to my own likings and yet the boot time from power button down to login screen is 4 sec.... whats wrong with this modern laptop???

    Hey, this AMD graphics is considered one of, if not the best integrated graphics on laptops. Is this GPU worthless in general or only for some specific software? Please answer? According to this video ruclips.net/video/CW1CLcT83as/видео.htmlfeature=shared Linux comes with standard open source AMD drivers, but for some rare cases (ie DaVinci Resolve), you may need to install additional proprietary drivers.

    • @thenoplanchannel

      It seems to only have issues with specific software. There is likely a way to get it to run via the command line, but we are not the best gurus in regards to that.
