With some demonic intervention. I love Crowley boasting of his great demonic act while the other two demons look on blankly because they are still in the medieval period of corruption.
I loved the book's recurring point that humans were both better than heaven and worse than hell. We don't need divine or infernal influence to be good or evil - those things are both inherently human.
Jill, have you seen the BBC / Amazon adaptation of Good Omens? They got it almost perfect. I kinda missed the Greasy Johnson & the Johnsonites. It didn't have a huge impact, but the line in the last episode about how's gang is best when Adam is talking to Gabe and Beelzebub seems out of place. It makes sense in the book because part of the story involves Greasy Johnson and his gang and when Adam realises he's got to fix the world not remake it, he understands that the world won't be better without a rival gang. But I guess with every book adaptation they do need to trim a few bits out. I'm really glad that Neil Gaiman fought to keep the Agnes Nutter scene in the show. It was perfect, especially with the casting of Josie Lawrence. Talking of casting, I was a bit dubious about the casting of Michael Sheen as Azriaphael, but after watching him and Mr Tenant I'm convinced they knew what they were doing.
i have **never** dropped my copy of good omens in the bath. however, all its corners are somewhat rounded from carrying it in my bag, and it has more than a few food stains... :)
Neil Gaiman said in an interview that Good Omens has a propensity to fall in baths, puddles and soup and that people bring him dishevelled and derelict copies to sign. Terry Pratchett used to take rubber gloves to signings for when someone asked him to sign a manky copy 😂
I've never had a copy long enough I've gone through . . . I don't know how many. I'm always giving them away I'm see I'm not the only one One friend told me he gave his away with the recommendation "what if the antichrist was just a nice kid?"
It's mentioned in the foreword that the authors regularly sign examples that have been read and dragged around a lot and look like they've been dropped in the bath at some point.
I was only looking for a review of a book and I found a truly funny video essay that was so much more fascinating than I could’ve ever expected! Subscribed!
Thank you for that.....I haven't read the book, but I've just watched the Amazon Good Omens series, and it was fantastic!! I now want to read the book! Lol
Me, who’s been watching jill bearup for years: watches good omens cuz a friend told me too Me: finds out that there’s a season 2 and gets hyped and joins fandom Me: REALIZES THAT JILL WAS SEVEN YEARS AHEAD OF THE CURVE?!? even my interests know my interests wtf
After reading the British version of this book countless times, I had to get a new copy and came across the US version. Nothing to it, I thought. But the changes made to the US version, small though they are, were so jarring that I put the US version into a donation box for books and bought the UK version in a hurry. And the first time I ever had to rebuy the book was after I let someone borrow it and never saw it again. I still re-read it time and again, and I don't think I'll ever stop.
Excellent review! Loved your take on it. One of my favourites (from two of my favourite authors). I can’t recommend the TV show highly enough. In common with several of the comments, I’d also like to see your take on it, particularly your comparison to the novel.
Hi, i am going to buy the good omens book but i am very confused with the price differences of the books that look and have the same descriptions. I came here because the thumbnail of this video has the 2 book covers inthe background. Most of the time the book with aziraphale on it is cheaper ($16-$20australian dollars) and called a reprint but the one with crowley on it isnt called a reprint but is normally much more expensive ($36australian dollars). Do you know why this is, your advice would be greatly appreciated :)
The Aussie Furry , I first read this novel over 20 years ago - ye gods that’s a while ago! I never really paid attention to the cover since it was a soft cover and the words “Neil Gaiman” was bigger than “Good Omens” but Neil had done stuff with terry and it showed. Like the Douglas Adams flavour in pratchetts earlier discworld stuff.
I have 3 copies of it - the German translation which we got first, and both the white and black paperback which we bought on holiday because we just had to have them both. By the way: Do I have to call you Ursa? I like Jill better.
what i love most about Good Omens is that it reveals motorway planners to be the infernal tormentors that they are

My copy finally died when its bindings gave out, so I got it on Kindle- which is starting to develop ink-spots...
One of my friends had bought it multiple times as he keeps giving it away to people he feels NEED to read it.
Which is every person.

Coming back to this after just binging the new Amazon/BBC miniseries. So good. Would love to see your take on it!
The first time you said “dropped in the bath,” I thought it was some weird slang term. The second, I realized you meant it literally. :)

Welcome 😁

I think it's time to go full circle and review Aziraphale & Crowley's plate armour in that one scene of the Amazon series :)
To misquote a Wise Sam.
We love it, because there is some good left in this world.
And it's worth fighting for.

Tada! ruclips.net/video/HEIHLuA-nhs/видео.html
Thank you... I love the book and your channel 🎈
People of a certain age know that Adam and friends are based on the Just William books by Richmal Crompton first published in 1922.
Your speech at the end made me tear up...
This is a wonderful (heart felt) review.
Watching in 2022, love your work!
Excellent review! Loved your take on it.
One of my favourites (from two of my favourite authors).

That was a brilliant run down! Why are you so awesome?
hehehe (happy with season 2)
Best book ever. That's it.
Read this when it came out, a jolly good read. as a sidenote, it's 'Gay-man'.
So, there is a legitimate market for waterproof novels. Gotcha!
Slightly tangentially . . .
Because of the movie "Mad Max III" every time I hear the word "apocalypse" my mind turns it into "epoxy-clips"
Are you excited or dreading it???

No idea, but they will almost certainly all be the same text, as the book itself has not changed regardless of when the edition was released!

I freaking love this book! Where can I listen to the updated radioplay?
I'm not sure whether it's still available on the BBC Radio 4 website.
Its here on RUclips
Adam solves The Problem of Evil
Just finished another Pritchett book at almost 2AM. His writing is so cheering, I have no self discipline with his books..
u: war, death, famine, and pestilence... or should that be pollution nowadays?
me, watching this in 2022: 👁👄👁
thank you for good video (you have many charisma points)
After watching the tv adaptation and watching this, I'm so excited to read the book
I earnestly hope you have! 🥰
@@jenniferschmitzer299 I bought it but I haven't read it yet😅 I thought about it yesterday actually and I feel so bad for not getting to it
Shira I feel so deeply for Crowley’s motor.
@@jenniferschmitzer299 honestly I have no idea what to answer to that
Shira lol, I meant his car. It gets ultimately Used and ends up in flames in the book.
I would love to see your reaction(s) to last year's mini-series :-)
You're in luck: ruclips.net/video/HEIHLuA-nhs/видео.html
Agree BBC r4 version excellent
No you shouldn't drop pestilence. Yours sincerely 2021
Metatron... also a good YT channel...
2:24 that's probably the one thing that aged the worst about this book when you look back at it in 2020...
I have 3 copies of it - the German translation which we got first, and both the white and black paperback which we bought on holiday because we just had to have them both.
By the way: Do I have to call you Ursa? I like Jill better.
