I use sony Vegas, to get rid of the black background you right click on the video once it's on the timeline and go to properties, change the alpha channel to straight unmatted, should be in the media tab once you open properties

You are a legend man I am a total noob in AE and honestly just need it sometimes to make stuff for videos. I scoured the internet for 20 minutes trying to find a decent video explaining this. I subscribed! Quick question is there anything else that can be added effects wise to give it kind of a bounce towards the end? Not up and down but as its growing, it almost speeds up a little and gets that I guess contemporary styling?

when you are finished on the seperate composition, you can copy it from the composition, and simply paste it to your main composition. but you have to copy the whole "shape layer"

Could use this in so many different ways. thank you. you need Vegas pro to be able to subtract alpha from a clip. need to render clip 32 bit uncompressed. right click on the Clip when it's on the timeline, properties, media tab, alpha channel section, select premultiplied.
