Man, before watching your (this) vid, I have always thought that using tracking was very strenous and time consuming. So much so, that I didn't bother to learn up on it. i saw your vid was around 6 minutes, decided to "learn". Best 6 youtube minutes of my life. Thanks dawg! Keep it up!

Best video on motion tracking for off screen objects. I found another video that shows the long way having to re-adjust the tracker as you go and then merging the motion track paths it created. This is a million times easier and more effective if you have to do multiple (as in hundreds in my case) objects on the same scene! THANK YOU!

I come here a lot so here's a quick easy-access guide I made for myself:
0:47 - Track Camera (Cam moves, track cam. Object moves, track motion)
1:51 - Create Solid and Camera (stick a comp on the wall)
2:26 - Pre-compose
2:47 - Adjust comp
3:44 - Transformation menu

Thanks, man. I'm a Writer/Director & Editor. I know my way around after effects. But I always forget things because I'm not a VFX artist. So quite a bit of time passes between effect shots I need to do for myself. You really helped me out here. I've never tried this method before and I really love it as opposed to using motion trackers. Subscribed. Keep up the great work.

I had this for a moment fixed it by applying the camera tracker directly to the footage and not onto a precomp if this could help anyone
or solving camera
make sure the video settings match the comp settings exactly. I had to nest my vid before doing dynamic link to get rid of the message. Also, do you have a capable gpu?
damn. i think this is my first after effects project. took two tutorials, and more time than i'd like to admit. it was at least an hour to follow a step by step tut lol. Thank you Justin! Hey Justin, I know you get a lot of comments, but I'm hoping you can respond to this and possibly know what's up. After I click on "Create Solid and Camera" and it goes through frame by frame analyzing, etc, it gives me a "Analysis solve failed" error. Have you ever encountered that and do you have any ideas what I can do to fix it? I am really excited about this feature but I'm running into that error. Thanks.

I actually shortened the clip down and it worked! Now I'm just having an issue rendering/exporting the actual video with the affect in AfterEffects. It's saying "AEGP plugin AEDynamicLinkServer...blah blah".
im getting the same message, its a short 2 second clip i recorded on my phone just to test.
2 shaky or nothing to track ( for example it's dark in your room and AE can't find any contrast) also try recording 60fps
You need more stable footage, with clear, stable points to stuck things.

What?! That's cool as heck. I got tired of programming, no I'm trying to be creative... I need help on tracking a photo in a video scene. I see I need to pre-compose.. but lost now. After Effects Noob. Blender Noob. Premier Pro - pretty descent. By the way, using CS6 because I can't justify a monthly for Adobe as I'm not in the industry of Art and Video.

I've been struggling through other fast, boring, or just generally bad tutorials to try and get this done, and I FINALLY came across yours, and managed to do it in 15min. it should just be working away in the background, youu can check the progress in the effects tab for the footage

Yeah it is xD, but if uou add a bit of color correction, motion blur and gaussian blur and you have a nice effect :)

I Managed to delete it but then my composition shows up, not a transparent layer

At 2:47 when he deletes it my background turns black... anyone know how to make it transparant?
On the composition panel there is a box with the words "active camera " and to the left of that there should be a box with a design like a checkers board

It doesnt, i fixed it tho, you set to detailed Analyze and it fixes

From my personal experience, it only happens when storage space is running low.

It will have trouble analyzing large videos with lots of moving objects such as a room full of people walking around or a field of grass blowing in the wind. best to have a steady hand and have few moving objects in your clip
probably the solution: set processor affinity

It could be how long your video is. If you want it to be quick, use a short video
