+GameXplain Great review. I felt like there was nothing left out and got the details without it being confusing. Touching all points. Character jobs are the best.
I feel like GameXPlain is one of the only review companies that actually knows how to review.
+JacksonLOVESNintendo
I used to love Rev3 when Adam Sessler was still on that channel doing reviews. And the best thing about thier reviews was that they didn't use arbitrary numbers to "rate" games, they just told you their opinions and at the end they summed up their opinion of the game in a short quote.
There's no point in rating games like "8.8" (like IGN does). Honestly, would you buy a 9 game and _not_ buy an 8.9 game? It's subjective, how did they even get decimal points from an opinion? lol
Can't really say the same. Nobody should trust reviews since opinions do not matter.
@@geetargato yes, I agree 100%, opinions are like ass holes, everyone has one 😉 lol
You mean you agree with them so like them 😂
my boi Tiz is back in action.
Rin Scott "I'm back and better than ever!"
I liked the first game fine enough, but I don't know what it was but bravely second blew me away, I adore this game. If you are a fan of RPGs do yourself a favour and buy this game
John Lowry
Bravely second is very fun the music makes my spirit happy
Out of all the reviews I have seen this one was the most positive. Overall after watching reviews this is my conclusion
-negatives
- The story is not that great. In other words it seems like the story sucks ba'als (pun intended).
-The music is not as great as the first game
-If Yew(another pun) do not like cheese with your games stay away.
-Some repetition since you revisit dungeons from the first game.
+postitives
+If Yew liked the characters from the first game and don't mind cheesiness this will be a fun game
+The combat system returns
+new grinding mechanic
+30 jobs
+customization is great
+The music though not as great can still be good
+A story negative from the first game does not make a return (Or at least that is what I hear)
Conclusion
If you were a fan of the first game (like me) you will enjoy this game as it seems this game is more like a fan service game. If you like Jrpgs you may still like this game even if you where not a big fan of the first or never played it. If you cannot play a game if its story is not that good then you may have problems with this game.
Bravely Second has a better stoty. At least it doesn't repeat itself 4 times.
Seraph Shou most reviews I have seen dont like the story but I dont think its that bad I just wanted to make the pun lol XD
+Crono I have not played the game yet myself this is just what I came up with after reading and watching reviews also I just wanted to make the pun I dont think I will dislike the story when I play it myself
+rockaholic1241 SPOILERS
imo, the story in BD gets bogged down through repetition, but the story in BS (hehehe) is super feelsy and has great twists and turns. (that final boss though.... super 4th wall breaking. Absolutely amazing. I think the story in BS is better overall.)
+Sam Denison (Banna) i really enjoyed the last boss. pretty fucking clever. although my favorite part is the vampire castle side quest. pretty sure i don't have to explain why.
Watch people complain about censorship without looking into the details.
Honestly I'd rather complain about the Microtransactions in a full 40 dollar game Ik it's optional but still nowadays it's kinda frowned upon
A free game... Sure like Bravely Second's Demo seeing as that's pretty much a free game
+domdon950 um you can earn them free though, and never have to use them bar one 1 time if i recall.
+domdon950 If you ever played the first game, it also had it but you dont have to pay anything like at all. That option is just there. The game doesn't do anything cheap to force you on paying or anything. So you still get the full experience
+domdon950 i never payed for an sp drink, like you i find it abhorrent that it's in there at all, but really its just a time sink thing. much easier to wait 8 hours than to pay any amount for it. the only beef i have with it then is you have to leave the game on in sleep for it to count the time. i leave my game on anyway, but saying i can't play another game makes me mad.
zetsubou1v1 yeah i got them leaving the town building stuff lol, but it didn't bother me. if some want to cheapen the experience, they are cheating themselves in the end after all.
Focused on the content, accurate descriptions with effort, fast paced video, minimal bias. Just what i needed. Thank you keep it up
These are what reviews need to be...longer but with enough info to determine a purchase.
the name ofthis game just seems like random words
Yew=You
+Rafael Q. But just like Bravely Default's title, it makes sense later on in the game.
+Rafael Q. The title of both games are named after in-game battle mechanics and story reasons.
Bravely Second (S)end (P)layer
Bravely Second (Fri)end (S)layer.
7:19 It's all up to... Yew?
'You never need to use Bravely Second to progress'
Lol
Lmao
+Jear I GET IT
+Jear Ohai
+Arrior 115 Have you playd the game up to chapter 5?
It helps, a looot, but you don't need it. And if you do the normal ending instead even more so
also if you have any strategic prowess at all you'd use bravely second
I only need to know one thing. Does Edea go MRGRGRGR?
Yep!
That is all that matters. To not have it would be....UNACCEPTABLE!
Not only that, but "This one's for Friend Bot" is also back. :D
"Yew = You" OH MY GOD
This review was such a breath of fresh air. Gamespot and ign seem to pump out reviews with misplaced reviewers just for the revenue, but with gamexplain you can tell the reviewer played through the whole game and experienced all of its aspects thoroughly to provide a clear and concise judgement. Well done :)
Most review sites only play through the first couple of hours of a game before they write the review so that they can get it out fast, which completely defeats the purpose of reviewing games. Do movie reviewers walk out halfway through a movie so that they can save time and get their review out faster? No, so why do game reviewers do it? So I agree, GameXplain's reviews really feel like they played through the whole game before they write them!
I liked Bravely Default, but holy shit was Bravely Second an amazing game. The story was better (I wish they didn't do what they did at the end of the first game though) the jobs in this game are beyond creative, the boss fights are amazing (barring over or two), and I adore these characters and villains. Also, I though Kaiser Oblivion made for a great villain (he's also voiced by Cam Clarke). My only issue is that the game felt a bit on the short side, but I'm glad that there's very little padding.
now if I can get thru Conquest . I can move on to Bravely Second. And Revelations I'll leave for when Summer hits
And Monster Hunter Generations
+Crono SHIT I FORGOT ABOUT THAT
I actually removed the cartridge for Birthright yesterday to play Bravely Default again. 99 hours og Birthright, and I STILL haven't finished the story. I'm just not as invested as I was in Awakening.
I chuckled a bit when you said the games doesn't explain specials.
I completed the first game without knowing there were specials at all. I only found out because a friend, I lent the game to, asked me how I set mine up.
+Zaire Hamilton How did you not know there were specials? There's a tutorial very early on that explains how they work, and a "Specials" option on the pause menu.
A Dandy Guy in Space skipped the tutorial. most of my play time was at night so I either skipped the tutorials or fell asleep and forgot. I missed the part where they each had conditions for activation and the customization part. I also never really opened the options menu to change anything (either that or I just missed the "specials" part) so, meh. Just didn't know. I 100% the game without them so it's really just my own fault for never noticing.
did the reviewer actually finish the game? cause the kaiser is NOT the last boss not even close, more like 2/3 of the way boss.
the story was fantastic and I loved all the characters especially after you find out their true story.
this was easily one of the best rpg's of the past decade 10/10 an absolutely must play game
I know I'm late to this comment section but let me just say that I really, really love the Bravely series at its core. I just wish the bosses in BS weren't so damn silly. I get everything doesn't have to be super melodramatic but between pop stars and pastry chefs it just took me out of the game until the ending came around. But I really do love the combat in these games and cannot describe how excited I am for Octopath Traveler. Just my two cents.
Bravely Default's repetitiveness with reactivating the crystals time and time again in each world makes me not want to play through it again. Are there any such issues with Bravely Second?
I would say the only issue with Bravely Second is the amount of recycled content from the previous title. Anyway, I loved that game!
I literally put that game down because of the shameless padding of the last 4 chapters. Now im looking at playing bravely second.
Hmmmmm, looks like I'll have to pick this up after all. My biggest gripe with the first one was the amount of grind needed to max out all the different classes, now that that's been addressed Bravely Second should be even more enjoyable than the first. :D
wow, great review. ive been thinking about jumping into this series for a while now, and i think im finally going to get bravely default and second this summer. thanks gamexplain
Can someone explain how the hell is bravely second better than bravely default??? Bravely second felt like I was playing bravely default all over again with nothing new with a bad story
Great review as always. Your channel is one of the best out there for reviews - informative, concise, and none of the "entertainment" gimmick BS that plagues other review channels. Definitely gonna pick up this game.
As long as they fix that repetitive BS from the second half of the first game, I'm all in.
+BaoZakeruga I haven't played this game, but from what I've heard...
You'll play until a certain point in the story, where you'll be forced to stop and start a "New Game+", which is actually your characters returning in time and keeping their knowledge of the events so they can do it right the second time around, leading you to different cutscenes and eventually the rest of the game. I may be wrong, this is only what I've read about it months ago when the japanese version came out.
They did 😃
+BaoZakeruga Yes, that was so stupid and frustrating X(
+Hawelo92 Thats exactly what it is except that many of the cutscenes are just recycled and certain parts doesn't change at all
Nathaniel 24
That's really cool.
I wouldn't say Kaiser is one note, I'll give a quote "I will not give up the fight until it is done... even if I stand alone."
My how far Ash has come since his very first video review of Bravely Default haha. I kid, I listened to the podcast and know you didn't make that review in the best of conditions. Anyway, fantastic review. Can't wait to pick up my collector's edition come Friday.
i have to say the music change isnt that bad,i enjoy a lot of the soundtrack, still is not like the bravely default music, but is pretty good still
I expected a like, I got a LOVE! Can't WAIT for Friday! Since I from this review's comment of the pacing the multiple world bull is GONE!
i didnt find that bull i found it fun personally
Great review as always!!! I really liked the demo for Project Ocopath Traveler and I heard this is the same creator of this game.So I think I am most likely going to pick this game up and Project Ocopath Traveler when that comes out, just saying.
Oh no, I saw "Mrgrgr" for Edea.
Great and thorough review. You forgot to mention about saving replays and slots and also with job save slots. BS upgraded most from BD. Just a little more... :D
I played default and second in one go, the characters are loveable in both games (i like even the bad guys), the music from the first game is the best, the art is awesome....I hope to see a bravely Third in the switch and.... (SPOILER) a good fairy at least once.... (SPOILER)
I've only played the demo version so far, but it brought something I've been expecting since the first game: when you use Examine, usually you get to see the enemy's HP and weaknesses, but only the one you targeted.
But in Bravely Second, all of the enemies similar to the Examined one gets shown their stats, instead of knowing only their weakness in later battles in Bravely Default. Why didn't they fix this before???
Actually, you could see their stats. The only thing you couldn't see was their current health, which was the only one that actually mattered so it's still the same problem.
Did you mention that it's encouraged to break the game to rack up on exp and levels? I never liked abusing the settings in the first game, such as turning off random battles to run through a dungeon, auto-battle where you brave 4 times using your best moves with max speed to grind, etc. I know it's optional, but I wish the game didn't have the option to do this. I like just having one difficulty, no ways to tweak the gameplay. I'm gonna have to try really hard not to abuse anything this time around.
This game is surprisingly good looking, and I'm sure it looks better still on the 3DS screen itself.
The story and writing is wretched and vile, but the gameplay is fucking top notch. Tied for best turn based combat with Bravely Default imo. Really good for setting up complex parties and tactics etc.
+The Real CHIM Shady Wretched and vile? It's like we didn't play the same game. The banter between the characters had me grinning from ear to ear the whole time. I think the story and characters have tons of heart, even if the story itself isn't exactly ambitious.
+Ash Paulsen it's bad, like really bad. They also filled the EU version to the brim with dank maymays and plebbit references.
Wow! What an incredibly eloquent review! This was amazing! Just what I needed! Thank you! 🙏🏽
cleared it mere minutes ago and i'm infatuated. it isn't "epic" like other well known rpgs from solidly estabilished franchises, but if anything, it's the most "charming" rpg series i've ever played. here's hoping for the third!
Yeah the story was a major point of contention for me specifically the final arc, god i hated that plot point but other than that and the strong sense of deja vu and times its a fantastic game. The characters feel way more organic this time around
Still deciding if i want this game, bit i feel like i walked away from this review more informed in order to make a decision, thank you
So based on what you said and what I've seen, Yew really IS Dean Venture...dammit Micheal you wonderful S.o.B...
Im glad someone else noticed yews voice.. I love venture bros.
I got this game as a present from my mother (which I am super grateful for because it's an amazing game!) but I had just vaguely heard of Bravely Default, so i basically started with the 2nd game fml
And my fave job is wizard. I made Edea and Magnolia wizards because I think they are pretty practical (I can literally hear all of the nerds cringing to death, but I'm a casual player so... go on)
Second's music is really great. Not as much as Default's, but it is great.
You know what I just remembered, did they ever review Birthright?
Now the big question still remains. Is there a huge pace breaker moment like in the original Bravely Default?
+Rellik165 Apparently no.
*****
Oh thank god. As much as I loved Bravely Default, the first half was much MUCH stronger than the second half. If the entirety of Bravely Second is like that first half, this will be awesome.
+Rellik165 Nope.
Thank God there's dual audio
Just a really great review. You earned my sub with this video.
Should I play the first one before playing this? Everyone says the first one is so grindy, and that seems to be fixed in the sequel. Also he mentioned how much better it is in 3D. Should I get a new 3ds for it? I can't stand playing in 3D on my current XL because it never stays in focus.
+Mark Harris Yes and No. The first one is very frustrating, but you should know, who the returning characters are to understand some inside jokes and their motivations.
I want this so bad, too bad I have finals first T~T
One of the best things that Square Enix did with Bravely Default was drop the Final Fantasy brand name.
Corey Holcomb Except that FF evolved into something so much different over the years.
You are right... this is what FF used to be, but is no longer.
What I'm saying is I'm glad they dropped the FF tag with these retro RPG throwbacks instead creating something separate.
Now that I have finished Bravely Second. Allow me to give my thoughts on the critical areas of the game (Spoilers):
1. *Story:* Honestly, while it wasn't super bad, I was kind of disappointed overall with the story. You see, when I saw the first trailer/demo for the game, I was kinda happy that the "main characters" of the game are gonna be the "Three Cavaliers" plus Magnolia with the possibility of returning characters to play either a secondary role in the plot OR, better yet, you have *two teams of 4 characters*, each handling a certain portion of the story in different locations, but nope, it's only 1 party of 4 characters, 2 returning and 2 new ones and sadly, I didn't find the 2 new characters (Yew & Magnolia) to be all that "endearing" as compared to *Bravely Default's* main characters. Yew's story is pretty dull (and I don't like the character himself) and as for Magnolia, while she was somewhat of an interesting character, she didn't really have a real impact on the story after rescuing "Tiz" at the start of the journey. As for the rest of the plot, the Kaiser? Anne? And Lord "Providence"? All that was very *cheesy* and wasn't as good of a plot as the previous game IMO.
Moreover, none of those "villains" had any lasting impression on me and I ESPECIALLY didn't like the fact that the Kaiser simply "gave up" his ambitions and "had a change of heart" just by losing to Yew. I think it would've been WAY MORE BETTER if say, after having his arm slashed by the "Sword of Brave", the sword would CONTROL the Kaiser, giving him immense power, but at the same time, taking over his mind and exposing all his "hatred/grieve" and using that to fuel his goal to change the world. And then, Yew's mission would be to BEAT the Kaiser first and then, beat the SWORD ITSELF as a second consecutive boss after beating Kaiser and by doing so, Yew would free the Kaiser from the sword's control and the Kaiser would be back to his senses. I think THAT would've been a MILLION TIMES BETTER than the Kaiser just giving up and becoming a good guy all of a sudden in the most boring/lamest ending possible to his story. What happens afterwards between "Altair" and his back story with "Vega" is all boring and the so called "Providence" final boss was a JOKE of a final boss as compared to "Ouroboros" in the previous game.
2. *Characters:* Most of the characters (friends or foes) did NOT impress me or leave a lasting impression on me at all. The *ONLY* character who stood out to me in this whole game was *GEIST THE BLOODY*, that one character, with his voice, backstory and attitude was the MOST AND ONLY interesting character for me in this game. All others were forgettable and I seriously think that *Bravely Default* had more "memorable" characters (friends/foes) than this game. (Especially *Airy* which I found to be a GREAT VILLAIN than that so called "Anne" which was a "lame version" of Airy in this game who had a weaker presence AND weaker strength in Bravely Second as compared to Airy in Bravely Default)
3. *Classes and Difficulty:* I would say the "Exorcist" and "Yo-kai" were good new and unique classes. But aside from that, I was very disappointed with how they *NERFED* MANY OLD CLASSES in this game, like the "Ranger" & "Time Keeper" classes and the REMOVAL of the AMAZING "Spiritmaster" class as well. That really ruined a lot of AWESOME strategies that were commonly used in Bravely Default and made some of these "previously amazing" classes in "BD" VERY GARBAGE in "BS" and that disappointed me a lot. As for the difficulty, I found this game QUITE EASY and not much of a challenge compared to the previous game. In fact, I only died "2 times" in this game and both were *DURING TRAINING* as I was carelessly fast-forwarding and that led me to die twice, but that was it, no other deaths in the whole game. But Bravely Default? I lost SO MANY TIMES to multiple bosses and I liked that a lot about that game because it offered me *challenge* and so, "BD" was certainly MORE CHALLENGING than "BS" ever was from start till the final boss.
4. *Music:* Easily the *MOST DISAPPOINTING THING* in the whole game. In short, the music in this game is either "imported" from the old game and the few "new" ones introduced in this game are ALL FORGETABLE and SUB-PAR as compared to Bravely Default's AMAZING soundtrack, ESPECIALLY the ones for battles. Bravely Second simply FAILED MISERABLY in the music department and I couldn't be more disappointed with that fact after previously enjoying "BD's" soundtracks.
5. *Final Rating:*
*Bravely Default* -> 8/10. (Only shortcoming being the "repetitive chapters" towards the end of the game).
*Bravely Second* -> 7/10. (Solves the "repetitive chapters" issue that Bravely Default had, but still, it falls short in comparison to Bravely Default in every other department).
This is a *one man's* opinion. Even if you 100% disagree with me, it's not the end of the world. Just remember that.
Different people, different tastes/expectations/preferences and so, different opinions. That's how the world works.
Peace out.
+Infinity Master SPOILERS:
I totally see where you are coming from, but i think that your issue with the story in Bravely Second is kind of weak. I mean, that fourth wall shatter in the final boss? Totally great. And the Sword of the Brave is MOST LIKELY (not certain) going to be a major plot point in Bravely Third/Sword.
I agree that the characters are sub-par. Except for Geist and Revenant. Maybe Yoko as well. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE Yew and Magnolia. And Tiz and Agnes. And Edea and..........RINGABEL IS BACK HEYYOOOOOOOOOOO!
Also, you stated that Anne is lame, but i think it's super chilly to consider this: Remember in BD, at the beginning, there's the fairy asking for your help? That's Anne. Which means that Anne is aware of you, the player. And you thought that Denys' ending was lame? Are you heartless? He had finally reconciled with his brother after realizing the error of his ways, and yet he is (kind of) forced to banish the Ba'al Diamante along with himself to the unreachable future. That is gripping, imo.
Finally, with your issue on the job classes being nerfed/changed: If the developers had kept jobs the same, and simply added new ones, what would compel a player to drop a perfectly good strategy that worked in BD and test out a new one in BS? A lot of the jobs that were lost were incorporated in the new jobs: Salve-maker's item usage and Vampire's Genome stuff = Catmancer. Also, there are still "broken" strategies (3x ghost and 1x tank, Catmancer's Mass Attack + Quad Wield and Dual Wield) The new jobs and altered old ones provided a fresh look and gave cause for players to reevaluate strategies, instead of practically recycling old ones from BD.
BD: 8.5/10 (repetition)
BS: 9/10 (cleaned up problems with BD, but not enough Ringabel... love Magnolia though!)
Sam Denison I have no issues with a different opinion. In fact, *I would like to thank you for stating your point of view instead of attacking my own*. I really appreciate that.
However, I *kindly disagree* with what you said for the following reasons:
1. I *personally* did NOT like the "breaking the fourth wall" part AT ALL. For me, it felt cheesy and kind of "childish" if you ask me. As for the Sword of the Brave, yes, I know that they will give it more focus in the next game. HOWEVER, my "suggested" idea with the Kaiser/Sword does NOT "conflict" with what the developers want for the next game. On the contrary, it could've been even MORE EPIC if say, after beating the sword once the Kaiser is done, the sword raises and is like "Hehehe.... You are strong, but you are far from being able to break me. We shall meet again, one day....." and then the sword vanishes into the mist and THAT could've been the *PERFECT* hint/set-up for the next game than how they actually handled things with the Kaiser/sword in this game.
2. As for the characters, it's a personal taste and like I said, I *DISLIKE* Yew, found Magonlia to be "less relevant" after saving Tiz and while I loved Tiz's personality in this game (and also was happy to see Ringabel back just like you), I was hoping that the story would've been *more focused on the 3 cavaliers as main protagonists* of this game and maybe have the old BD team as a "sub-team" that, while still relevant, does more of a "secondary" role (or at least, as suggested, have 2 teams, each handling half of the story in different areas of the game). That would've been better IMO.
3. As for the jobs, I understand that the developers want to give more "spotlight" to new classes introduced in the game. HOWEVER, that does *NOT* necessarily mean that they NERF/REMOVE old classes to do so. It would've been BETTER if they *gave the player the CHOICE* between, either resorting to the good-old tactics/strategies of BD in this BS *OR* trying to find out new combos/strategies using new classes. THAT is what "more options/players choice" means, NOT "destroy" old strategies/classes and try to "force" players into trying something else. I *LOVED* my personally-developed strategy in BD, but now I can't implement it anymore due to the REMOVAL of the "Spiritmaster" class. Also, I enjoyed using the "Ranger" class against monsters because it had an answer to ALL species and that was really *FUN* to use, but now it was NERFED and is "half useless" and I had to sadly GIVE UP on it because of that. THOSE kind of decisions to NERF/REMOVE old things for the sake of "new things" is *BAD* and *RUINS* the experience for some players (like me). *GIVING THE PLAYER THE CHOICE* between old or new (instead of completely nerfing/removing the old ones) would've been the *OPTIMAL/PLAYER-FRIENDLY DECISION* IMO. (And I know about the "3 ghost + 1 tank" strategy, but I do *NOT* like it because it is *NOT FUN for me to use* and if something isn't fun, even if it "effective", I'm NOT gonna use it and besides, I like to depend on *MY OWN DEVELOPED STRATEGIES* instead FYI).
Anyways, no disrespect to your opinion, we seem to have different views of what makes a "good sequel" and that's fine. Each to his opinion. But one thing I'm sure we can agree on is that, we both CAN'T WAIT for the next game and let's hope that this time, it beats all previous titles and gives the players *more options* for a more *player-driven* experience rather than a "developer-driven" experience. :]
+Infinity Master I feel you about Spiritmaster. Anges was a Salve maker / Spiritmaster who could heal up my whole party for free with blessed shield.
I dislike using cheesy strategies like the Hasten World + Stillness and the Ghost Tank strategies, but I still appreciate how players can find and develop these fun ways to just blow through the whole game.
I really hope Bravely Third does like Golden Sun: The Lost Age did (and what you're suggesting/wishlisting) in that it has 2 parties, seperate at first (possibly combine later in game) but I feel that the developers wanted to emphasize on bringing new characters in, testing how players like them, before going in, full blazes, into a 2 party 8 character (or 6?) setup.
One might say.....they bravely defaulted and followed most mechanics of the predecessor, and the third one might be a bravely second chance to please again!
Sam Denison Welp, I don't want to argue any further. Now that we are done with Bravely Second, let's hope that *Bravely Third* is worth the wait! :]
P.S: Oh and sorry for multiple "grammar mistakes" in the previous comment. I fixed them already just to let you know. It is 2 am here and I need to get some sleep before waking up early tomorrow (or should I say today lol).
Welp, hope to say you again soon. Bye! :]
That last comment wasn't much of an argument, but i too hope Bravely Third/Sword is the Bravely series coup de gravy!
it makes me sad, that i am forced to buy a 3ds to play something worth buying of square enix anymore 90s were where they did so well but are nothing but sell outs pushing out games with graphics and no gameplay really loved your review man
Did you said that the music is composed by Ryo? as in Ryo from Supercell? That guy is an amazing composer and I really love his music.
Ryo is indeed the music composer of Bravely Second.
Sadly enough I preferred the OST made by Revo back in Bravely Default.
Tailoring every single aspect of a JPRG to whatever the player wants seems like Enix admitting they DON'T really know what we want and are just giving us the means to do so. No thank you, I play games for the experience and challenge given to me, not to make my own. I don't do self imposed difficulty, I do Impossible mode. This is too much customization for me to enjoy mastering it in any capacity.
+Gussy .D : and when we are talking about RPG, these cretins are even more boring.
I agree with TheLonelyGoomba. Fighting those four bosses three times really kills the motivation of playing this game all the way through!
+Tyrone James This game? That's a Bravely Default thing. Actually, Second has a better way of managing its "Worlds".
Hey I loved the pre battle banter and cool insight on the bosses ( which pays off in this game if you did it).
im gonna spend all my money on this, kirby planet robobot(and the amiibos) and pokemon moon ,glad i didnt wasted it on fates
The moon legendary better be amazing
good time for 3ds gaming right!
derek sparks yes it is,and im glad cause 2015 was super boring for the 3ds, i didnt buy a single 3ds game that years and i had the console covered it dust but 2016 is super sweet
+Nicolas Cortés Fates is great too, though.
***** the price and the changes that they made to the series with awakening make me dont want to buy it
The encounter rate in this game is predetermined by steps you've taken, in other words it is fixed, that kinda take away the fun because of the fact that battle encounters are too predictable
"Incredibly respectful of the player and just wants you to enjoy your self" -removes bad ending changes classes outfits and tons of text-
For the sub quests, if you choose one job over another, do you still get the job you didn't pick later in the game? Like if you chose thief over red Mage or something?
+Lobiwan Lucas You'll get a chance to receive the other job later in the game.
3 months later and I hadn't realised the game already came out, it didn't have a very good publicity campaign, did it?
Should I play Bravely Default before is one?
Not deleted this time ? Good
Correction: You don't get more people as you advance through the sttory (for moonhold reconstruction) you get 5 a day !
+GDKsan is that right? if so that's very kind of them to add in. i think i cleared reconstruction in BD with less than 50 people. the game's major flaw is it only streetpasses with other game holders, not everyone.
zetsubou1v1
In BD it was 4 to 6 a day too.
you have to select the second option in the save menu and it will add people to summon and also they'll get added to your moonhold.
GDKsan oh really? i don't remember it adding to my population, maybe i just wasn't paying attention.
Just found a used copy at GameStop for $18. Figured I’d try it out before I get the new Switch game.
Dope ass review! After watching this video, and Pro J's vid on the first one, i'm have such a crush on these games. (♥.♥) These are going to be the first Final Fantasy games I've ever played!
Bravely Second is amazing Square Enix really improved from Bravely Default If you have enough time, try to play the first game :) Btw while Revo of Sound Horizon's performance is better than Supercell, some music of their music is memorable here such as Oblivion's Theme and the new normal battle theme.
I just finished the game and IMO you did a good job in the review and I agree on almost everything. I personally love this game and I think it is better than BD (which I love except for the grinding chapters)
I'm sad Nikolai isn't part of the main cast, so much for more bara characters ah well
I'm NOT calling the Nekomancer, Catmancer...
+Christian MH You can call it the Blue Mage if you care.
+Christian MH Yeah, "Catmancer" just sounds stupid. "Nekomancer" is a pun, and so it works. But "Catmancer" is fucking stupid.
Do i need to play bravely defoult to understeand the story?
You say this one is paced very well.
Pacing issues was my main grip with the first game.
So hopefully this fixes that issue.
I am just afraid the only interesting part of the plot is gone with it
"Which will cost you 1 SP"
Uh... need to correct you there.
Any attacks that cost BP will instead cost SP. For example, if you use one of Valkyrie's abilities that cost another BP (so 2 BP for one attack) it will cost an additional SP than normal. This is how it was in Bravely Default.
+Brandon Gurgacz You're totally right, thanks for catching that. I rarely used Bravely Second/remembered it was even a thing, so I only ever used it with actions that cost 1 BP. Thanks for the correction!
You're welcome. And I'm glad you loved the game.
Another thing you might not know about, is that, if you're doing the exact same action over & over on the same target, you don't need to select Brave 4 times, then choose the same action over & over. Here's an idea.
Select an command (Attack or Ability). When it gets to the target selection, press L or R a few times to choose how many times you use that in the turn (it will show up with "x2" "x3" or "x4"). It's a small shortcut, but pretty nice. But it only helps when doing the same action. If you're doing different actions with each Brave, or selecting different targets, you have to do the old way.
Okay, serious talk for a moment. I literally facepalmed when you said SP drinks were back. But I have one very important question: Do they get rid of the damage cap again? SP points INFURIATED ME in the last game because they effectively walled off a piece of gameplay behind a microtransaction. You can't max out your characters and "break" the game without those things, because your damage was always capped at 9,999 unless you used a goddamned SP drink. "But you don't have to use them!" I was told again and again. Sure, and you don't have to max out your characters and be good at the game either, but that doesn't mean that it's okay for an entire gameplay element to be walled off behind microtransactions. So, someone PLEASE tell me they didn't do this again.
+Butterworthy 9,999 is still the maximum. BUT this time you receive SP, while playing the game, not only in sleep mode. I had 120+ hrs, so 15 SP.
Bedi di That's a little better, but does using an SP get rid of the damage cap? If it doesn't, then I'm totally cool. If it does....then I've got problems.
Butterworthy Bravely Second removes the damage cap again.
+Butterworthy I want to know this too.
Bedi di That....is incredibly disappointing.
As long as you don't have to do the exact same stuff over and over and over it'll be better.
+Lechteron You don't. There are some shenanigans and some backtracking, but not really any repeats.
Excellent. I get why they did that at the end so you could get missed jobs but it really dragged.
Lechteron yeah that ruined the first game.
I loved the first game and then all of a sudden I'm replaying the first half, as the second half of the game?? What???
Just finally got this one so hope it doesn't repeat that mistake
You might replay the game again if you make a mistake on a certain chapter by doing the wrong thing
Just curious, the game came out for us in the EU on 26th February, how come you guys didn't review it back then unless you were restricted to certain rules?
+Lord Ozzie NA gets it on the 15th of April.
SNRGTCgamer
I am aware of that but they could have got an EU copy and review it.
I feel horribly dead inside, for never attempting to purchase a 3DS (Only has a GBA and PSP...)
Well hey, once the Switch comes out you'll probably be able to find an original 3DS for $70 or less, if that makes you feel better!
Ive never played this or the first. Which is better? Will I be able to follow the story of second without needing to know what happened in default?
Some people say BD is better and others that BS is. IMO BS is better, though I recommend you to play BD first because when you start BS you will get spoiled of what happened in the previous game., but answering your question you can play and understand BS without playing the first game.
I personally enjoyed the second game better, it sums up the entire story of the first game in the intro, so you don't need to play if if you don't want to. They're both amazing though, so if you have the cash then I would recommend picking up both.
My only problem with this game is the audio. I swear, it sounds like vocals done on a GBA game.
I know it's jrpg but why it has to be brutally "westernalized" when the game is a jrpg, i don't understand! :^/
Falcon Bleck IMO its awesome almost like a sub genre
Wait, the main party is Yew, Magnolia and from the first game Tiz and Edea?! What about Janne and Nikolai from the demo? They seemed cool.
And if they were going to bring back old characters, why only the worst ones?! Ringabel is awesome, why not him?
+TheBlackCloakedMan Ringabel is in this game. He is the Dark Knight Alternis Dim. And agnes is part of the story, but as a narrator.
+רז חרש I've seen them in the videos, they still aren't in the main party though, it also doesn't explain why the two possibly interesting new characters are pushed aside to give the spotlight to two of the more boring old ones.
+רז חרש wow you spoiled the fuck out of this game... Thank god I finished the game before watching this
+Shulk is not anime What? How did I spoil the game? You can see Alternis Dim in this video, and anges as a narrator has no info of her involvement in the story itself what-so-ever...
+TheBlackCloakedMan Yew gets as much as "Main" feel as Tiz had in BD. Trust me, Tiz and Edea are mostly in the sidelines compared to Yew. Magnolia acts as the "Ringabel" of this game. Mysterious, yet very interesting.
at the end of this game i have cried for long long time
Yeah, this had one of the best endings than I've seen in a game in a while, the final boss was amazing and everything was wrapped up pretty perfectly!
Bravely second(Time I had to cry this year from a video game)
Turn based games are my life... new rpgs confuse me so much QAQ
Excellent review, can't wait til Friday!!!
I saw a lot of familiar areas in this game. I was hoping it was all new locations.
+Deep South Like 90% of the places you visit are new ones. The other 10%, the cities, are the same, but have different people and different story related to them.
oh my. Why does japan like to make all their characters look like they just passed the diaper stage? They look like their 5. Otherwise game looks good.
the world is handdrawn and the characters are just chibi its a cool looking game its very charming highly worht playing same as the first game
better than first you mean?
personally i found both games amazing
***** i had my eyes on Bravely Second. I think I'll buy that one. Thanks
The most important question, +Gamexplain , is does this game piss up its own nose from the 2/3 point on like Bravely Default did? Cause while the mechanics, music, and art were all great for Bravely Default, from the point where you know who is revealed to be not what you know who seems to be, the plot just turned off for the entire third act before the ending and that section is frankly unforgivably bad with nothing but repeated bossfights with little to no context. I just want to know if Bravely Second avoids that cause frankly, Bravely Default feels like it WAS an excellent game and then the devs tacked on several hours of completely and utterly useless content just to reach an arbitrary length to get into the big boys club.
Bravely Second doesn't repeat content like the original did.
ElectronJake that's great to hear. I really enjoyed the first two thirds of Bravely Default, but it was quite crushing to get past the great WHAM moment at the two thirds point and find that between that point and the end was a big vast nothing in terms of plot.
This game looks interesting. Or maybe I'll just wait for Bravely Third: New Horizon to come out.
So for anyone who has played End Layer, does Ringabel make a return? He was my fav from the first game
+jayvir6 I've bad news for you then
Ronan LE QUERRÉ Are you claiming he doesn't return? I ended up just searching online since no one responded and it says Ringabel comes back posing as Alternis Dim. I didn't expect him to be playable. I just wanted to know if he was in End Layer at all.
Well... Spoilers, he make an appearance in one of the last sidequests, and we discovers that he was watching for Edea for a long time
Ronan LE QUERRÉ then he still shows up. That's all I wanted to know.
going to get both games for my birthday!
+Sebastian Gamez play bravely default 1st the opening of 2nd spoils the first game in almost every way.
I wonder if you can transfer streetpass data
What I like about this game the most....that Tiz and Yew........ get SOME!!!! ;3
i fucking fan-boy-ed to shit after the before during and after the final boss it was soooo coool
I know the feels I cried of happiness.
from the adventurer, to agnes, to understand the first part of the intro and with her and you know who, yew and magnolia, i lost it
bee pee
beenis
Can I just ask why Tiz attacked his own teammate?
I didn't see Ringabel at all in this video. This worries me. ;w;
He does appear in the actual full game
Pat Dy
*curls up on floor*
Why did they keep norende?
I don't want my special moves gated behind mobile app bar fill waiting game bullshit that forces going online into my singleplayer game.
I don't want to keep my 3ds in standby mode.
I want to close the game when I'm done playing and not feel like I "waste time" not micromanaging the time bars. Fucks sake.
Wow. You clearly have no experience with this game. That thing you're bitching about is completely optional.
so my question is, is there a part in the game where u repeat the same chapter a bunch? like in the first game?
+Mikey Kliss No.^^ Parallel world are back though, but it never gets repetitive.
+Bedi di whoot! lol
GIANT ENEMY CRAB
+Hawelo92 in soviet luxendarc, giant crab hits YOU for MASSIVE DAMAGE! (true story, i saw it on a let's play xD)
Only buy an imported version to support the devs but not the censors.
+Grim Bonkers irrelevant.
+Grim Bonkers Localization*
I get that it's a review but man...all those spoilers for the story in the beginning of the game. I don't think you needed to go into that much detail.....
+Jared Cvetas The game immediately puts you in the story with a battle. You're not being spoiled anything.
The review is actually quite good but for me it is just soooo boring to listen to.
Just my opinion
