I'm really hoping this isn't all there is to Claire. It's going to get annoying real fast. Or perhaps it'll make me enjoy the fact hat she's just a secondary character that much more ;)
To be honest, so long as they mix up the joke from time to time, I wouldn't mind if Claire was just a curious upper class character who doesn't realise when she's being offensive. Besides, I heard that she might be interested in not only Alm's cows and pigs but maybe the 'villager' himself...
"To be honest, so long as they mix up the joke from time to time, I wouldn't mind if Claire was just a curious upper class character who doesn't realise when she's being offensive. " This is exactly what she's like in the game.
Well, I respect your opinion, but I hope there's an option to turn all the voices off. I prefer giving my own voices to characters in my head as I read them. It personalizes them a lot more. Especially on the battlefield when every time i select Lissa she scrieches "Let's Go!" ugh, so annoying. But to be fair I also preferred the walls of text and sprites talking of FE7 so what do I know.
I've only played 3DS Fire Emblems, but Echoes has got to be my favorite. It has such a genuine, emotional charm to it which is hard to explain. The soundtrack is also overwhelmingly good!
I feel like I need to say this, your story can be the most basic, generic plot ever, but as long as your charterers are well-written and memorable people aren't going to care.
I like the story in this game so far, and it's only because the characters are well-written. I feel the same way about the characters in Stella Glow too.
zann williams I loved awakening so much. it made me a avid fan instantly. I played it probably 4 times over. Fates was only held back by the memory of it's predecessor. but it was still a pretty good game. I enjoyed the story and characters. some of my favorite characters of all time are in fates. (takumi etc)
Awakening was good, Fates was good, this game looks good. They may all be good for different reasons, and appeal to different people, but none of them are really bad in my opinion.
Abigail Porcaro exactly just because something doesn't appeal to you doesn't mean it sucks. I had so much hate thrown at me for liking the newer games it's crazy.
Deshawn Holmes Crazy. I've been playing these since the GBA games, and I can never understand why people think Awakening and Fates are shit. I'm just happy for more.
While I don't think Awakening and Fates aren't the greatest, I don't think that they're terrible games. With that being said, out of all the FE games I've played (which consists of all the ones released in the West and am currently playing through gaiden and eventually (New) Mystery of the Emblem Genealogy, Thracia, and the Blazing Sword), Fates is the worst in my opinion but I don't think it's terrible.
Echoes will remain my favourite FE game. There's something so charming and beautiful about this game, maybe it's the top tier voice acting or the art or the gorgeous soundtrack, or the emotional and well written story, or the fact that Alm is actually one of the most 'human' lords in the franchise and a breath of fresh air from the failure called Corrin... I don't know, man, this game was amazing to me.
Beat this game two weeks ago. I'm a relative newcomer and I thought this was the best of the 3DS games. I absolutely loved it - a totally different game to awakening. Great dungeons, great story, great music, great voice acting, great old fashioned feel to the gameplay. Unlike the other 3DS games, I played this in classic mode and it was a much more tense, yet pleasant experience with Mila's turnwheel. If I made a mistake I didn't have to reset and erase half an hour's worth of moves, I could wind it back. It's a great compromise because it preserves the emotional shock of losing a unit without the frustration of erasing all your hard work.
It's literally Gaiden, so it's worth buying. All the new additions and fixes really fix up the tiny issues that Gaiden had. It's worth buying and it's very fantastic.
Prince Kazuya yeah it looks like even the maps are mostly 1to1 the same. Only really new stuff is this "dungeon" stuff and character dialogue/story detail.
Little Rippa At some point I expect because of the "Roy sucks" from angry gaijin, in the 6 remake Roy is Ike and Robin tier broken rather than just make him promote earlier/Sword of Seals has 40 to infinite uses.
My Fire Emblem play time is not as grand as most players, mine only being over half-way through Sacred Stones, the beginning of FE 1 and it's remake, and Awakening, and about half-way through Fates. I will not lie that I love the support conversations but I do wish they had more bearing on the story. For the next big Fire Emblem game, marrying these two things together, where the Support Conversations affect the story in big ways, would (I think) please both fans. But this does not change the fact that most players (not most FE fans just gamers in general) prefer Awakening and Fates to the old games. It's kinda like how Quake Champions is being hated on by Quake fans for "not being true Quake", while the player base is steadily growing larger and larger because of that game. Games that are exactly like old school FE or old school Quake, simply don't sell as well as the new games because those old games are too niche now. I, for one, love the additions made in the new games, I wouldn't be a fan without them, looking forward to each release. Now, if Intelligent Systems got together with Atlus to make another game, I'd be all for it.
Gamer Of Rock Heh, a fellow Fire Emblem and Kamen Rider fan. I have to agree with you there, there has never been a bad installment in the franchise except maybe for Shadow Dragon (AKA, the game that nearly killed the franchise to the point that it's sequel was never releeased outside Japan). I have only completed Sacred Stones and Awakening, while I'm currently playing Blazing Sword and Genealogy of the Holy War, and I can tell you that every single game is amazing on it's own. Similar to Kamen Rider, whether you like Ex-Aid, W, Ryuki or Den-O (heck, I like to compare fans of Thracia to the fans of Hibiki, lol) no season is bad per say. They are all different stories with their own characaters, stories and settings.
I love the marriage system. Really hope it returns in FE Switch!! Although, I felt uncomfortable when I realized I was basically breeding my units like Pokemon ^_^"
Can't put my finger on it....but there's something about the character design and animation in this game that I really really like vs the previous 3ds games. Not to they were bad or ugly in fates or awakening(i thought they were very nice looking). But I'm really digging the look of this new game.
Quiverlip Sweet I'm not alone on that. I enjoyed Fates for what it was despite storytelling flaws, I still felt for the characters and the gameplay kept me engaged.
Yes, they were great to him. In my opinion: Look at the fucking franchise, there's a handful well written characters, but most are anime stereotypes. It's really funny how people assure that there's an incredible story or a full cast or even just the majority of it filled great characters in the older games. I love Fire Emblem, but it really baffles me how people think some of them had brilliant stories or great cast. Sure, some were better in those aspects, but holy shit, not by much... at all. The franchise advanced and became better with every entry, at least in terms of gameplay and again, the story has never been brilliant or even great to begin with... just good at it's best on some entries. The gameplay, combined with an entertaining story (nothing more), some interesting characters, great music and nice art direction are what make those games great and the new games are not only not lacking that, but improving most aspects. Well anyway, that's my opinion on the matter, but I'm pretty sure many can't wait to tell me about how wrong I am and how inferior the new games are in terms of it's BRILLIANT story and cast to (insert older FE game) entry. It's ok to dislike the new games, seriously, we all appreciate and enjoy different things but the problem with this and any other fanbase (still somehow I still feel this is one of the worst) is that many of you assure something that will never, ever be true, which is that the older games were superior, even in terms of story. It doesn't matter if you are the majority or the minority or if someone gives a thousand "facts" and starts attacking everyone else. There's people that enjoy aspects that you don't even when it comes to the story and characters. From a guy that has been a fan from the last 13 years (I'm pretty sure there's a lot of you that have been fans for way longer) and that has played almost every entry, I sincerely don't find much difference between the anime stereotype characters from the new games and the anime stereotype from the older games. There, I said it. Edit: Actually, it's been 15 years... but then again, there's a lot of people that have been fans for more time. I'm just saying this to clarify that I'm a fan of both new and old games despite being what could be considered an "old fan".
Fates was my first FE game and since then I've gone back and played a bunch of them but... I think that Fates is my favorite. I just don't understand why people hate it so much. I liked the characters, loved the music, adored the cutscenes, I thought the UI was clean, and I loved the actual gameplay. A lot of people complain about the story but I don't play video games for their stories. If I wanted that, I'd just play a visual novel. I think the gameplay is much more important than the plot..... but from what I can tell all FE games have lackluster/predictable cliche anime stories. Which I personally don't mind, for the record.
Spoilers bro: it's not (compared to the other FE game, at least in my opinion) Go play Fates, then go play say, Radiant Dawn, and you'll be like: "what was I playing before that?" That's how bland the Fates cast is and how bad and poorly the story was written, despite the original decent plot idea
Aquablast Paikia Well here's the thing, Gaiden is arcaic in design. The remake tried to refine some of those old school design choices, but it can only do so much. Gaiden is not for everyone, it's my 2nd favorite FE, but I know there will be people who won't like this game because it is essentially a pretty Gaiden which did many things differently.
I feel like I'm the only person on the face of the planet that kinda liked the marriage system in Awakening/Fates... although the child unit explanation in Fates can go and chuck itself off a cliff. I'd rather take no child units at all than that complete BS rationalization. At least in Awakening it was actually reasonable to assume that the kid units could come to the main timeline within the story, and didn't feel as horribly forced as Fates did.
there are a couple things that really sold me on this game. 1) no. relationship. builder. (besides small conversations in battle). i love awakening and fates, but i just could not stand having to build a relationship with the party. such a huge turn off for some reason. 2) the story and gameplay are literaly my favorite in the series
The models/attack animations look amazing in this game and full voice acting... I'm excited!! It's great to hear a reviewer who actually understands the series and what this game is all about.. You put a lot of work into this review and I appreciate it!
Advertising or not if it weren't for Awakening the series would be toast. That's not to say that people should glorify Awakening or ignore it's numerous flaws but the fact remains that it saved the franchise.
Technically it did, but it deserves a major asterisk. Because minimum number of copies Awakening had to sell to 'save' the franchise was still well below what any Fire Emblem game to date has ever sold. Path of Radiance, Radiant Dawn, Shadow Dragon... everyone knows those games didn't sell well, and Shadow Dragon was probably the most divisive (localized) Fire Emblem game at that point, and it *still* did not come close to falling below that threshold. Awakening would've had to suck really freaking bad to sell so poorly.
That's because it DID. It was said before that Awakening would have been the last Fire Emblem game if it didn't sell well. They had to pull out all the stops on this one or else they'll have another dead franchise on their hands. Regardless what these people say, at least the franchise is alive and more into the spotlight.
Marc Lorenz Bati Look at it in context, Awakening's situation weren't nearly as dramatic as you're pretending them to be. Awakening had to sell a minimum of 250,000 copies worldwide. In the series's history, Fire Emblem has never even sold below 400,000 copies of any game. Awakening didn't need to do much to keep the franchise in existence. Did it do a lot for the franchise's popularity? Sure. But many people who've been fans of the series for a longer time will tell you that the series has lost a part of its identity in the process, a notion I can personally get behind.
TBH the new art style, game mechanics, and fatigue system being changed/added was one of the best decisions. And TBH I wish the later games in the series make unique and significant changes to the gameplay mechanics so it's even more interesting every time. But yeah, I was legitimately fangirling over the aesthetics of the entire game for the first 3 hours I was playing it.
I watched ign's review, didn't really think i would like this fire emblem. Then came and watched this review. So much better and in depth, and now im really interested in shadows of valentia. There was so much about the game play and story that ign didn't even touch on. Good review gameXplain, well done.
IGN gets people who don't like RPGs to review RPGs and people who dont like Dungeon Crawlers to review Dungeon Crawlers. They gave Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky a 4.9/10... and the guy that wrote the review said he didn't like it because he doesnt like randomized dungeon crawling. If you don't like an entire genre of game, maybe youre not qualified to decide whether or not a particular game in that genre is good -_-
i don't know anyone who would argue otherwise. The only thing I like about Corrin is that he can turn into a Dragon and has a cool design. Though technically Robin can also turn into a dragon, sort of.
I just started playing but ngl I feel like Idk if I’ll like it because I feel it’s a bit over dated but I played three houses and Instantly became a fan of the series and I’m just trying to try out more games of this series that’ll be as good as three houses
I mean, alternatively, they might totally remove the tactician character from a remake of 7. I think that would be lame, but it wouldn't be surprising to me. but it would be nice to get a remake of 6 that makes roy decent unit for the entire game instead of just the last few chapters
To be honest, I still think that the cutscene animation looks way better in Awakening and Fates than here. Something about the animation they did with Echoes just looks so...offputting
Yeah. I'm assuming the studio who did the animation for the previous FE games is working for the Switch version. But I like this "throwback" style honestly.
This may be the first ever Fire Emblem game I pick up. For some reason I got really hyped when I saw this game's trailer during the FE Direct a couple months ago.
tkeller71097 I would REALLY suggest getting Blazing Blade, Sacred Stones, Awakening, or Fates first. Those are the best to introduce you to the series. Shadows of Valentia is NOT a good one to start with. Trust me, Gaiden can be brutal and Shadows of Valentia is basically the same. Play one of the previous ones first.
nah dont listen to these scrubs they dont know what they're talking about. If you want the true FE experience i suggest you either Start with FE1 for it is the original, FE5 for its good tutorials and it being an oberall easy game or you should start with FE 11 as it has been Praised for it being a PERFECT remake of FE1/3 and overall great everything. Also dont worry about the Japanese in FE1/5 as the mechanics are self explanatory and who cares about the story right?
I'm not a big fan of this genre, but Final Emblem Echos: Shadows of Valentia is pretty fun. I love the ability to explore dungeons/grind in dungeons. I have a feeling it's gong to take me forever to finish (I don't have a strategic mind, and I keep getting my magic users stomped on.)
I’d buy it for Tobin. Straight, but he’s my favorite character ever; I’d even kill Sonya for him. Now, IS, please let Tobin get a rerun for HEROES, please
Imo, Awakening had an amazing story, Fates had amazing characters, and Echoes looks like it's going to have amazing gameplay. All the newer games shine in one way or another, and you can hate them all you want, but I like the direction this series is going.
Man I am so excited for this game. No multi version crap, no waifu marriage system shit to worry about, awesome looking animated cutscense, reworked battle mechanics, dungeon exploring, and the best part NO FUCKING AVATAR CHARACTERS!!!! Outside of the BS season pass this might be the best Fire emblem game I have played ever.
I have to say Echoes did way better in all of those aspects, and its actually decently challenging than Fe awakening or fates, Awakening i can play a whole walkthrough without grinding. I actually had to grind in FE echoes (thanks dragons)
I have to agree, Echoes support system was so much better than anything Fates or Awakening did, only a select few characters are able to support with eachother AND you dont have any children.
Huh. Gotta say, of all the things to keep from the NES version of the game, I was not expecting the" health in exchange for magic attacks system" to be one of them.
Yeah, you're not wrong, but I always just assumed that it was one of those artifacts from NES game design that the developers looked at later and decided wasn't especially great for the type of game they were making, sort of like how clerics in the first game didn't get XP from healing, though that particular difference is far more egregious.
The DLC isn't getting a single penny from me, but the base game looks amazing visually and promising in a few other ways as well. And if nothing else, it should be worthwhile for the experience alone. It's basically just improved FE: Gaiden, right? Even with its black sheep status, I know a lot of people do still genuinely like it, so I have faith that it'll turn out a fun game. Flawed, no doubt, but fun either way.
I think that these characters are so much fun to just spend time with My one gripe is how much emphasis knowing how the enemy will act is in the level up quotes (Also is Saber supposed to be this broken, I accidentally had him solo Greith's stronghold) I honestly liked Celica a bit better than Alm for the reasons of all of Celica's conversations with cats, and Mae and Boey were just so much of a fun character that I probably didn't notice Celica's flaws I am very biased towards this game But that is because I spent my entire weekend playing it
I can honestly say this game has won me over. The characters are so good, and even though they aren't as colorful as Fates or Awakening's, they're much more realistic and don't rely on a single trope. I've never cared more about so many characters... I even like Faye. The RPG elements, music, and storyline are wonderful as well. What an amazing game!!
they may have been poor fire emblem games, but it is because of those games that fire emblem is now one of nintendo's bigger IP's. doesnt make those games good fire emblem games, but it is something that can't be denied.
im pretty sure those 2 are almost completely unrelated lol. corrin hate in smash was mostly because "6 fire emblem characters, but only one or 2 for other series? REEEE"
dragon heaven Reviews don't mean shit...just look at IGN. The fact that more people enjoyed them was because more people knew about them to begin with. Inb4 someone calls me an elitist, I started with and loved Awakening, spent over 700 hours on that game. 4 years later Fates came out and I loved Conquest. Then I started playing the older games and fell in love with them. Even the games I've never even heard of. Now I hold FE8 as my favorite in the series and pretty high up in my all-time favorites. So really, just because Awakening and Fates are more well known it doesn't mean that they're the objective best games in the series.
looking forward to it, id love to have the originals remade though. Growing up with the weapon wheel, and mage weapon wheel and all that in PoR and RD was would be a nice visit
I totally wanna grab this after i finish the other turn based rpgs i'm playing! This looks like a wonderful game to begin playing Fire Emblem. Thank you GameXplain, you've shown awesomeness to new eyes.
Between 2017-2019, 3DS games were vastly ingorned due to Nintendo Switch. (Im not saying its a good or bad thing, it just is.) So in a way, it can be said that these games are true Hidden Gems of there time. I remember back in 2017 at Walmart looking at Nintendo Switch products and faintly remember seeing thr Burgundy/Rose Wine looking cover art for this game, and i was passive about it because of Switch hype. I was never into fire emblem unless it was Tokyo Mirage Session, but somehow years later, i want to play this game due to voice acting, chatacter development that pulled me in more than the other FE games. It reminds me of my love SMT IV and IVA, and in a way i like having the options to talk with NPCs to get some folk loŕe of where i am, like on SMT IV.
The turnwheel is a great idea but really if you can save scum there should be unlimited uses of it to save you the time waiting for the game to start up again
Scott Elder Unlimited uses sounds downright broken. You could just spam it in every situation til the rng favors you. I'm not really a fan of it to begin with , but that could completely remove the challenge.
Very detailed, nice review. I cannot agree anymore. I hope players in the US and other regions enjoy this game as I did with Japanese version of the copy.
Honestly? Yes, depending on who you ask. Heck FE 4 was considered a disappointment by the series creator Kaga for multiple reasons, though many would consider it one of if not the best FE game ever. It all depends on what your looking for in the game.
Ice Stare - As game themselves I don't think any Fire Emblem is bad as a Fire Emblem game the first game, Gaiden and Revelation are pretty terrible imo.
Peanut House Kaga was a shady Weirdo? Yeah, that's pretty accurate. He was the guy that un-ironically saw the marriage and child mechanics of FE 4 as comparable to competitive horse breeding, viewing it more as a reward for players who like min-maxing characters. He was also kind of a terrible boss for overworking his staff and at one point fired his lead art director for the previous 3 games simply because he didn't like the work that he did for Fe 4, even though he was given only 3 weeks too work on the basic character designs which is an incredibly short period of time for anyone.
So support conversations take place on the map like in GBA games. Did the 5 support limit come to this game as well or do we have the option to get all supports like in the newer games?
I'm fairly certain that their unlimited, however supports are super limited. Most characters can only support with 1-2 people, with Alm and Celica being the only real special cases. As well their treated as being a lot shorter and less meaty, as least in the Japanese version, due to the fact that they are taking place in a battle and characters will even reference the fact that they are and cut conversations short.
It's almost all on disc, the features could have improved the game but aren't nearly worth the price they are paying. They are actively making the game have less cool things so that they can charge wayyy to much for the DLC.
From Path of Radiance's voice acting to "some of the best voice acting I've ever heard in a video game." This series has come a looooong way in certain aspects
As much as I want to believe there are no elitists. A quick look at the comment section tells me otherwise, with 'elitists' calling every new feature Awakening and so on introduced absolutely destructive to the series and calling everyone who remotely enjoyed those games "trash". Personally I like both old and new (Fates less so but it wasn't a bad game, just a mediocre FE IMO). I just wish people would be more rational about their likes/dislikes.
No, but people who do dislike the game and provide valid reasons why automatically get labeled as elitists anyways. People on the subreddit always give their own reasons for disliking the newer games and those reasons usually don't involve casual mode, marriage mechanics, etc. In fact a ton of people still think that veterans hate casual mode even though the vast majority of them don't give a shit. It's an extreme vocal minority that's ruining it. I can't speak about the discord since I never joined it.
So many hypocritical "anti-elitists" doing exactly what they don't like.... bashing others. And it's funny because there are more anti elitists than actual elitists.
Damn! Those battle graphics look gorgeous! I barely am getting started in FE series, I started with Awakening. I am trying to chose another FE game. I was gonna chose Conquest which seems overall a much better game but....almost fully voice? Incredible battle graphics? Usually I do not care so much about graphics at all and Corrin's story seems really appealing but......those battle graphics and mostly voice! I do not know what to chose........
I have not seen a single good argument against the inclusion of more casual styles of play. Makes the game easier? All of the casual options are optional, so don't use them? Makes the game lose prestige? Widedpread appeal and popularity are what make games get good reputations. Mario Kart's autopilot mode thing is a perfect example of limp-dicked elitists thinking that anything easier than what they had 'back in the day' makes everyone worse than them. How? If you turn on that mode online and only touch your controller enough to keep yourself in the game, there is a 0% of coming in the top 3. If you race against someone who only touches their controller enough to stay in the game and lose to them, you suck an unbelievable amount. It does nothing to make the game simpler, all the original mechanics are still there, and using the old mechanics to the best of your ability will still result in a better player than one who uses casual options, but the person using casual options is still having fun. And why shouldn't more casual options be added so that more people can have fun? That's the point of gaming as a whole. As punishing as it is, Dark Souls is fun, and DS3 even completely threw out most of the armor/defence mechanics from DS1 and 2 so that people could just wear what they wanted and still be successful in most scenarios. If people who pay for a game and use casual options to have fun somehow takes fun away from you, you game badly. There are still ways to recognize gamers that are incredibly skilled and can do insanely difficult things in games without demonizing people who just want to have fun, and if you want to demonize people having fun, you hate games. FE is a fun strategy game series that changes things up for every title, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. If you are like me and didn't love Fates, that's alright, but how is it bad if someone likes it? Because you don't like it? I hate onions and I don't berate people who slap them on hamburgers. Because if you like onions on your burger, put them on, I want you to enjoy your burger. Because I'm not a self-righteous asshole who thinks the world needs to bow to my preferences. I like the older FE games because they're classics with great stories, I like the new FE games because they flesh out customization and game mechanics. If you're an FE elitist who actively attempts to get people to not buy newer FE games, you hate the industry. Path of Radiance was my first, and now I've played almost every one. I got my friend into Awakening, he's now playing through Sacred Stones. If you're so deadset on the old ones being best, encourage people to play the new ones to get their feet wet, then have them dive right into your favorite. None of these Casual options can even concievably have a negative effect on a series. It gets more people interested, and almost anyone who uses these options to learn the ropes will eventually try and turn them off to see how good they are without them. Even if they don't do that, as long as they're having fun, it promotes the series at large and helps create more games. If your only enjoyment comes from being able to empirically prove that you're somehow 'better' than someone else, go play a MOBA you staggeringly brainless buffoon.
Yea... Ever played Age of Empires 2? There we have Noobs, Players and Pros. If rather than improve your game, you rely on premade advantages or cheats you're a noob. It's completely fine to be so, but nobody is going to play with you. People like the competition, and for multiplayer games this is important. For singleplayer games, or singleplayer modes of games you can do whatever you want within the limits of the game. If you wanna play with advantages you do that, but in multiplayer you need to have fair competition. Playing with or against a cheater isn't fun. Premade advantages is cheating, regardless of whether the game allows it or not.
McGaming SSB4 dont confuse veterans with elitist and newcomers with "weeabos" m8. anyway this game was different even from the others "classic" FE games, so I don't know what are you bitching around......
I heavily recommend this to any Fire Emblem fan. I was gushing at the art style, voice acting, and music. It's easily my favorite of all the modern Fire Emblem titles, and that's saying something since FE Awakening was my first one. It's definitely not a game for a beginner to the series (Awakening and Fates are better suited).
Shuru10 yea I don't think it's as hard as the older fe games but I have found it on normal/classic to be more challenging that fates and awakening. Before anyone bites my head off with "with it's too easy on hard" talk I find it more challenging because there is no weapon triangle, because units can't hold more than one item (sword or items) and because there is no pairing system from those two. It presents a new way to approach battles and you can't use the strategies of previous game's. If your not smart you can lose units very quickly in the latter half of the game and yes Mila's turnwheel does make it easy to rewind a turn but still if you don't find all the cogs you are limited on attempts and if u are in the dungeon using it over and over you can't recharge it without leaving the dungeon and one later dungeon in particular has mandatory battles that you will have to redo if u choose to leave. I'm liking the challenge just not how it jumped from acts 3 to 4 it just felt sudden to me. Then again I'm not using the dlc bonuses or anything on my first playthrough so it may just be me.
Screw the review. I just want to know more about cows and pigs and such!
Vonfirxlirch *Clair
"To be honest, so long as they mix up the joke from time to time, I wouldn't mind if Claire was just a curious upper class character who doesn't realise when she's being offensive. " This is exactly what she's like in the game.
Great! I got my pre-order today and, despite the slow start, I'm loving it so far.
Full. Voice. Acting.
I hate the voice acting :(
Septimus Heep lol wut? any sane human will say the voices are good.
I hope it also has proper translations. The ones who translated Fates need to be fired!
This was honestly great voice acting. I guess different strokes for different folks
I've only played 3DS Fire Emblems, but Echoes has got to be my favorite. It has such a genuine, emotional charm to it which is hard to explain. The soundtrack is also overwhelmingly good!
Oh no, this orange is too heavy. I guess I can't carry a sword!
What is more dangerous? The man with a blade, coming towards me, or the threat of scurvy?
Search KamenRider Gaim, and you'll understand the power of Orange
I feel like I need to say this, your story can be the most basic, generic plot ever, but as long as your charterers are well-written and memorable people aren't going to care.
No, people do care. The stories in Awakening and Fates were crap, and people didn't like that even though the games had good characters.
ZGoten Fates? Good characters!? HAHAHAHAHAAaaa.... Oh shit you were serious!?!?
Well, I guess everyones alowed an opinion.
I like the story in this game so far, and it's only because the characters are well-written. I feel the same way about the characters in Stella Glow too.
ZGoten Awakening was okay but Fates was ehhhh
zann williams I loved awakening so much. it made me a avid fan instantly.
Abigail Porcaro question. Is ur profile pic a fire emblem character? If so what's the name?
Looks like Estelle from Trails in The Sky.
7.8 - Not enough fire or emblems
7.8 to much water
7.8 - i hate sand
7.8 I can’t ship Celica, a 17 year old girl with a 33 year old mercenary
"significant difficulty spike in the second act" yup sounds like Gaiden.
Brian Clarkson boat map 3
Echoes will remain my favourite FE game. There's something so charming and beautiful about this game, maybe it's the top tier voice acting or the art or the gorgeous soundtrack, or the emotional and well written story, or the fact that Alm is actually one of the most 'human' lords in the franchise and a breath of fresh air from the failure called Corrin... I don't know, man, this game was amazing to me.
Yuri Nakamura i like the dact they made Celica very realistic to actual teens. Echoes us probably my favorite FE game.
Guys.... IGN gave this game a 7.8... it begins all over again *vietnam war flashbacks to ORAS*
Gods, no! Not again! I can't handle another one!
It honestly deserves less.
Ign is cancer.
ORAS deserved that score and the fact that that was so controversial is ridiculous.
Did they find it too hard ?
Awakening saved the series eh?
*grabs popcorn*
Do you want salt on your popcorn sir?
That's fine, I got plenty from the comment section already.
Mangsmath strikes again
Well, that's a fact. You can have whatever opinion you want on that fact, but it IS a fact.
salty much?
i hope Fire Emblem Switch is fully voice acted like this one is
Terry Carr same. and it probably will.
Terry Carr They took the dive. They can't turn back or the fans will give them hell.
Terry Carr maybe depends up to them.
I hope it has the same amazing voice acting
I came here from the future to inform you yes it is fully voice acted
There's honestly more people saying fans will get pissed at the Awakening comment then there are actually fans getting pissed.
Prince Kazuya Eh, the art style is godlike and the VA is good, but I feel like the poor map design not being fixed hurts it as a remake.
#JustPlayGaidenBro
I recently discovered you can cut grass in the dungeon areas. The inner Zelda fan in me is squealing as I cut every last strand of grass.
no personality will be flatter than Corrins
Onizen We'll see what Roy has to say about that.
At least no personality is better then shit one.
QcSlayer Seven In terms of likability, not really. They're equally as unlikable as characters.
But when compared to Roy at least Corrin isn't a fucking garbage unit.
Little Rippa At some point I expect because of the "Roy sucks" from angry gaijin, in the 6 remake Roy is Ike and Robin tier broken rather than just make him promote earlier/Sword of Seals has 40 to infinite uses.
Fire Emblem is kinda like the Kamen Rider franchise. It's less about it being objectively good and more about whether *you* enjoyed it or not.
I just want a sacred stones remake
Roy Mustang With a lunatic mode added because is pretty easy.
that would be so sick
Yeah ! Same feeling here haha.. i think sacred stones is lit! I want remake on 3ds
Playing it on the Wii U right now 👍🏼
Fire Emblem with Hector, Lynn, Eliwood IMO
I like the marriage system I don't care what Anyone says ,
I love the marriage system. Really hope it returns in FE Switch!!
Although, I felt uncomfortable when I realized I was basically breeding my units like Pokemon ^_^"
@@bee4377 yeah lol
Marriage system done right:
-Awakening
Marriage system done horribly bad:
-Fates
Maeriage system done amazingly:
-Genealogy
I do too, but this is a remake, not a re-shove everything in modern FE into this game and make it resemble nothing like what it was remaking.
So many people bitching about elitists in the comments yet I have yet to see one.
Lucina ate your burger top comment is just another comment bitching about elitists and it's not even true.
Lucina ate your burger The top comment was asking for it.
Owain Kun calm down m8 all you do is make new fans look like shit
That's how it is on most FE videos nowadays.
Everyone complaining about the infamous INVISIBLE ELITISTS.
Maybe the mirror should look at me ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Can't put my finger on it....but there's something about the character design and animation in this game that I really really like vs the previous 3ds games. Not to they were bad or ugly in fates or awakening(i thought they were very nice looking). But I'm really digging the look of this new game.
a year late but, yes. The character designer(Hidari) is way better than the hack that did awakening, fate and tree houses.
Nice review!
nice comment!
Godot nice response to comment!
Linkmstr!!!!!
YungChurro Nice eyes!
The positivity in this section makes me smile.

In that order
"A remake of Fire Emblem Gaiden" *pauses video. Goes to Nintendo estore. Buys game.*
Jesus so much Fates hate in the comments, I thought that game was great
Quiverlip Sweet I'm not alone on that. I enjoyed Fates for what it was despite storytelling flaws, I still felt for the characters and the gameplay kept me engaged.
Yes, they were great to him. In my opinion:
Look at the fucking franchise, there's a handful well written characters, but most are anime stereotypes.
Spoilers bro: it's not (compared to the other FE game, at least in my opinion)
Go play Fates, then go play say, Radiant Dawn, and you'll be like: "what was I playing before that?"
That's how bland the Fates cast is and how bad and poorly the story was written, despite the original decent plot idea
Looking back on it, this game was SUCH a joy to play!
Agreed
Dammit Derrick! I only just bought Fates complete edition, and now you've convinced me to get this too. It never ends!!
worldsboss for how much?
mechashadow Too damn much.
Derrick gave this game a Like It Lot, but he gave Fates a Loved it. The hardcore fanboys are probably triggered
Aquablast PaikiI I never played the original, but I really hope I like it more than I likes fates.
Yeah, Gaiden *is* pretty much the Zelda 2 of the series.
man i would love to see a remake of zelda 2 that would own
I feel like I'm the only person on the face of the planet that kinda liked the marriage system in Awakening/Fates... although the child unit explanation in Fates can go and chuck itself off a cliff. I'd rather take no child units at all than that complete BS rationalization. At least in Awakening it was actually reasonable to assume that the kid units could come to the main timeline within the story, and didn't feel as horribly forced as Fates did.
Yeah I really enjoyed the marriage part as well.
I loved that about Awakening too
there are a couple things that really sold me on this game.
1) no. relationship.
You put a lot of work into this review and I appreciate it!
uh oh he said Awakening saved the series, incoming triggered people with ''but muh advertising.''
Advertising or not if it weren't for Awakening the series would be toast. That's not to say that people should glorify Awakening or ignore it's numerous flaws but the fact remains that it saved the franchise.
Yes Awakening did save the franchise however that doesn't mean everyone has to like now does it?
Hell yes! I cannot wait for Friday!!
Trying to bait the easily triggered I see. Any luck?
Heh, do what you will. Have fun lol
I know, right?! The wait is killing me! :3
AzureRoxe Huh? No, Nintendo officially said it comes out May 19th.
Azure is in Australia Darth. It comes out a day later in Australia. I don't know why, but it does.
Excellent review, Derrick!
Thank you for your hard work preparing for this review :D!!
I watched ign's review, didn't really think i would like this fire emblem. Then came and watched this review. So much better and in depth, and now im really interested in shadows of valentia. There was so much about the game play and story that ign didn't even touch on. Good review gameXplain, well done.
Andrew Kloter never watch IGN and trust their reviews
Darn right MiDo
IGN gets people who don't like RPGs to review RPGs and people who dont like Dungeon Crawlers to review Dungeon Crawlers.
They gave Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky a 4.9/10... and the guy that wrote the review said he didn't like it because he doesnt like randomized dungeon crawling. If you don't like an entire genre of game, maybe youre not qualified to decide whether or not a particular game in that genre is good -_-
Yep, that's Gaiden for ya. Second favorite Fire Emblem game and I am so hyped for this game.
I wish awakening has full voice acting
PICK A GOD AND PRAY
for it to be good
Robin is better than corrin.
Lance Rider noone is doubting but the Yato is Fucking amazing
Lance Rider And Ike is better than both of them. :P
Ominous Cap nah Ike an Gary stu to the max
My man Mark knew when to shut up though.
which was all the time, 'cause silent protagonist, but whatever.
i don't know anyone who would argue otherwise. The only thing I like about Corrin is that he can turn into a Dragon and has a cool design. Though technically Robin can also turn into a dragon, sort of.
I just beat the game and loved it, finished it in 5 days and I recommend it to everyone. Very addicting and worth buying!
I just started playing but ngl I feel like Idk if I’ll like it because I feel it’s a bit over dated but I played three houses and Instantly became a fan of the series and I’m just trying to try out more games of this series that’ll be as good as three houses
Genealogy of the Holy War remake next pls, because Sigurd is literally the hottest FE hero *wink wink*
Annie Anemo we need this game to sell well so we can have the best waifu in the history of anyting
Speedwagon?
I get it!
In b4 we just get 6/7 remake because playable Mark.
I mean, alternatively, they might totally remove the tactician character from a remake of 7. I think that would be lame, but it wouldn't be surprising to me.
but it would be nice to get a remake of 6 that makes roy decent unit for the entire game instead of just the last few chapters
Bro. Too soon. rip Sigurd ma boi
I can't wait to pick up my pre-order! This has me very excited for FE on Switch, too!
Better than IGN's review
Being in this comment section is no different from being in hell.
To be honest, I still think that the cutscene animation looks way better in Awakening and Fates than here. Something about the animation they did with Echoes just looks so...offputting
The voice acting more than makes up for it though.
Yeah. I'm assuming the studio who did the animation for the previous FE games is working for the Switch version. But I like this "throwback" style honestly.
böses Glurak what bugs me the most is how Celica runs up the stairs in trailers. It just looks odd.
The cutscenes looks more like they're going for a "traditional" feel to fit the art style. That and it's not CGI. the battle animations are lit tho.
My problem with the cutscenes is that they did that 3D-but-not-3D art style rather than just 2D animation. It looks pretty janky.
This is a review done right. I personally think this is better than Awakening and Fates though (which is funny since I've only played 3ds fire emblem)
Just Echoes in my opinion, it's fine starting point and solid game on its own.
nah dont listen to these scrubs they dont know what they're talking about.
BUY THIS GAME
*_Almost summer Vacation 😎_*
HF Zeichner *what do you mean? don't you want to have summer vacation? lol*
Question Guru *_I got finals next week and then my last week of school YAY_*
Delayed comment
it's here boi
I'm not a big fan of this genre, but Final Emblem Echos: Shadows of Valentia is pretty fun. I love the ability to explore dungeons/grind in dungeons. I have a feeling it's gong to take me forever to finish (I don't have a strategic mind, and I keep getting my magic users stomped on.)
Gray and Tobin need their own game.
Eagle I would defintally play that
But cliff and Faye need to be there too
I’d buy it for Tobin. Straight, but he’s my favorite character ever; I’d even kill Sonya for him. Now, IS, please let Tobin get a rerun for HEROES, please
Let’s have a spin-off will the player has to switch between controlling Tobin and Gray’s armies until they meet up
R.I.P. my 3DS.
The only reason I am going to miss one Fire Emblem game for the next couple years.
Imo, Awakening had an amazing story, Fates had amazing characters, and Echoes looks like it's going to have amazing gameplay. All the newer games shine in one way or another, and you can hate them all you want, but I like the direction this series is going.
Alex Z Out of curiosity, have you played any games pre-Awakening?
except awakening didn't have an amazing story and fates didn't have amazing characters
like, at all
i'm still saving for this game. prices in my country are CRAZY. you people in NA are lucky. well, i can't wait to play it. thanks for the review.
Ken Krumbach the avatar Characters works well in awakening but fates fucked it up making corrin the center of the game
Ken Krumbach and fates and awakening animation cutscenes were way better
Ken Krumbach the reworked battle mechanics aren't new it was just used in Gaiden
SherlockHyde Really? 'Cause that's a pretty big mechanic to take out.
I think that these characters are so much fun to just spend time with
My one gripe is how much emphasis knowing how the enemy will act is in the level up quotes
(Also is Saber supposed to be this broken, I accidentally had him solo Greith's stronghold)
I honestly liked Celica a bit better than Alm for the reasons of all of Celica's conversations with cats, and Mae and Boey were just so much of a fun character that I probably didn't notice Celica's flaws
I am very biased towards this game
But that is because I spent my entire weekend playing it
Though Alm's and Celica's fight just before the landslide was amazing for the realization that they are pretty much teenagers, which was hilarious
This game is so fun tbh
Thanks for your review. I haven't started this game yet but now I can't wait to play.
HEY, GUESS WHAT?! ALM AND CELICA ARE IN SMASH INSTEAD OF ICE CLIMBERS AND INKLING! CALLING IT NOW!
Drewtwo nah maybe de inklings but not FE
If they were, that still wouldn't necessarily be 'instead'.
Naaaahhh. Maybe pallete swaps for Marth and Robin but not characters on their own
they didnt even want to put corrin in smash, what makes you think they'll add more FE characters?
Drewtwo I don't find it hard to believe
I can honestly say this game has won me over. The characters are so good, and even though they aren't as colorful as Fates or Awakening's, they're much more realistic and don't rely on a single trope. I've never cared more about so many characters... I even like Faye. The RPG elements, music, and storyline are wonderful as well. What an amazing game!!
"It's amazing of what the 3Ds has done for the fire emblem series"
Fire Emblem Awakening & Fire Emblem Fates: Guilty as charge! ;)
Both good games.
they may have been poor fire emblem games, but it is because of those games that fire emblem is now one of nintendo's bigger IP's. doesnt make those games good fire emblem games, but it is something that can't be denied.
I didn't even know Fire Emblem Awakening & Fates had so much hate. But then there were those salty ppl when Corrin was in Smash Bros
im pretty sure those 2 are almost completely unrelated lol. corrin hate in smash was mostly because "6 fire emblem characters, but only one or 2 for other series? REEEE"
dragon heaven Reviews don't mean shit...just look at IGN.
PoR and RD are a long way to go tbh, I'd expect Genealogy first.
who else pre-ordered fire emblem echoes
I totally wanna grab this after i finish the other turn based rpgs i'm playing! This looks like a wonderful game to begin playing Fire Emblem. Thank you GameXplain, you've shown awesomeness to new eyes.
I still find it kinda weird that despite this game being a remake of an older Fire Emblem game it has DLC and a Season Pass.
CaptainViewtiful98 I mean DLC couldn't be produced back then so all they had was the main story, so if you think about it, it does make senss
Dlc and season pass is free with Freeshop
I'm not really a fan of it to begin with , but that could completely remove the challenge.
my first FE was Awakening and I love echoes
I hate this fanbase
I just hate fandoms in general.
Thunder Beast619 I hate everyone
Very detailed, nice review. I cannot agree anymore. I hope players in the US and other regions enjoy this game as I did with Japanese version of the copy.
Huh, neat.
I love how well this review was handled. Great review.
Lets be honest has there ever been a bad Fire Emblem game :3
2, 8, 11, Awakening, Birthright, Revelation, and now Echoes.
GeekyGerald what did you just say about Sacred Stones?
So support conversations take place on the map like in GBA games. Did the 5 support limit come to this game as well or do we have the option to get all supports like in the newer games?
I'm fairly certain that their unlimited, however supports are super limited. Most characters can only support with 1-2 people, with Alm and Celica being the only real special cases. As well their treated as being a lot shorter and less meaty, as least in the Japanese version, due to the fact that they are taking place in a battle and characters will even reference the fact that they are and cut conversations short.
Heroes has made me like Alm since I have a 5 star of him but HATE Boey because of that ridiculous last story mission 😂
Scott Elder Celica>Sonya>Mae>Genny>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Atlas>>>>>>>>>>>>Boey
Once I’m done putting 300 hours into 3 houses I’ll be back to play this one.
but dat DLC price doe...
just buy the ones you want
That doesn't change the fact that all of it still costs more than the entire game. I would like to buy all of it. But I won't.
yea but it's an option to buy it all at once there not forcing people to buy plus the game itself is more than enough
It's almost all on disc, the features could have improved the game but aren't nearly worth the price they are paying. They are actively making the game have less cool things so that they can charge wayyy to much for the DLC.
Yes let's judge the game based solely on the price of optional content.
From Path of Radiance's voice acting to "some of the best voice acting I've ever heard in a video game." This series has come a looooong way in certain aspects
Pre-ordered
Derrick, your reviews are always so well done and descriptive. Thanks! :)
Yet another video where the comments are filled with people complaining about the non-existent elitists lmao. Stay classy FE fanbase.
Oh they definitely exist, just take a look at the FE subreddit or the discord. RUclips reviews are too "casual" for them.
Elric boy Disliking the game doesn't make you an elitist lmao
Jay Tee I never mentioned anything about dislike.
Design leader: So, we need to have a pretty difficult level coming u-
Design team: *_ARCANISTS AND ARCHERS._*
Roses are Red
Violets are Blue
I would rather buy a Wii
Than a Wii U
Celica is red
And Marth's hair is blue
I'm looking forward to this
How about you?
Cyber17 But the big advantage of the Wii,
Is that I have GameCube games to see.
I said lol
to u all
Unless you got an early model of Wii.
Kiss your backwards compatibility goodbye, tee-hee.
Oh Derrick...I recommend you check out the *Blazblue* series for really good VA as well...it's REALLY good!
So many hypocritical "anti-elitists" doing exactly what they don't like.... bashing others. And it's funny because there are more anti elitists than actual elitists.
No there isn't
Full voice acting needs to become a staple in all future fe games
will you review the DLC
They're realling pushing it with that DLC price
dadkwashere guess what; you don't have to fucking buy the DLC
I personally don't have any problem with the Kantors, rather I used the first few main battle Kantors as training dummies.
Rhemorak thank you for this comment!
Artwork and music seem stellar !
#GloriousSwitchMasterrace
I like the quality of life changes...I hope this Carrys on to future games in this series
prepare yourself to all the salty and annoying "veterans" comments incoming XD
(please note the "..")
Misterlinux Actually even hardcore fans are enjoying this game. Sooooo much better than Waifu Emblem.
MaximumFunGaming .-_-
............
well, at least I was prepared.........
Misterlinux the weebs are worse than the veterans....
McGaming SSB4 dont confuse veterans with elitist and newcomers with "weeabos" m8.
anyway this game was different even from the others "classic" FE games, so I don't know what are you bitching around......
Salty we got the best game being remade I'm stoked.
