If you never played Fire Emblem games (or tactical RPGs in general) before or if you like Fire Emblem just because of the soundtrack, Birthright is the one for you.

You know one of the reasons to choose Birthright is for the easier gameplay with not difficult victory contitions, so "repetive mission objectives" had no right to be a con.

I think it's a reasonable con, but not worth taking much off of the score for. It's a simple thing that can enrich the story of that map a little. It doesn't necessarily make the map harder, it could actually make it easier. I remember a "seize the castle" type objective from an older title and the enemy was stationary at the throne of the place until you finished him off.
A very difficult-to-find type of video-someone praising Fates. Then again, since she's from IGN, most people are going to take this with a grain of salt. It's actually quite an awesome game- if you don't compare it to the other Fire Emblems.

@@ellsybellsy. Sure, in fact each path can be bought stand-alone easily. If you already have Conquest, then you can even get BR at a discount in-game, and vice versa. Getting Revelation isn't even necessary, but if you do decide to you do get in-game bonuses for having multiple paths. (Those bonuses being a Dragon Herb and a pair of Boots for each path beyond the first, as well as two dread scrolls (turns a unit into a dread fighter, a footsoldier which uses swords, axes and daggers) for the second path, and two ebon wings (makes user a dark falcon, a lance-and-magic flier) for the third. It's certainly not the best story the series has to offer on any route, and on Revalation I would easily call it the worst in the franchise, but Birthright was the first FE I ever finished, and it and ESPECIALLY Conquest have some really intriguing gameplay at times.

Compared to Awakening, the graphics have been upgraded. You can see the characters' feet. There is a seamless transition from the map to the combat. The weapons and creatures look more varied. I just ordered it but I'm eager to play this.

@Z1ng1s I’m pretty sure you might’ve made up your mind, but nope! Each of the other games are just different paths. So you don’t need to buy both do the games to understand just one side of the plot, but if you want to try both of the ways to play the game, go ahead.
Bit confused; So as I understand it, in both games after a few chapters you choose which side you want to fight on, right? So how does the initial choice of game dictate your path? In both games, I can pick to fight for Nohr or Hoshido? : // Or is there actually no choice and it comes down to the copy you have?
I heard if you buy the game digitally or buy the special edition, you get all three paths. But if you buy a physical copy of Conquest, you're locked to that choice.
+hardrockmusickid Buying the game digitally gives you one version. There are two FE Fates games on the Eshop, one for each version and whichever one you purchase is the one you're locked into. However, once the decision moment comes in the game, there will be an option to buy the other path, with the third one becoming available March 10th. You could buy both versions directly from the Eshop, but it specifically says in the game's description not to do that because doing so will not allow you to get the $20 discount on the second version, which can only be taken advantage of in-game. You were right on the Special Edition, all 3 paths are immediately available.
I have to admit After playing Birthrights and Conquest I Have to say Conquest Wins it just feels more like fire emblem I liked the story better, it was more intense as you did not have a lot of time to level up your units when I played birthrights I got really bored since really Every single mission is ROUT THE GODAMN ENEMY AND DEFEAT THE EASY BOSS. Overall I think Conquest was better
Revelation is the third and final path of the game(the game is split into three parts, Birthright, Conquest, and Revelation). Revelation basically uses plot points from the two other stories, and is a little harder than Birthright, but not as hard as Conquest. Also, yes, the game runs on the 2DS.
In terms of release, sort of. Awakening -> Shadow Dragon -> Birthright/Conquest -> Revelations. In terms of story, Awakening and Shadow Dragon have nothing to do with Fates. They are set in their own little universes and are almost completely independent from Fates, so you don't need to play either to understand and enjoy Fates. If you are new to FE, then get Birthright. It's much easier for newer players to get accustomed to the FE universe and game mechanics. Conquest is much harder and more unforgiving. Revelations, the third route and only available through DLC is somewhere in the middle.

Can someone help me After I finished the main storyline for Birthright (I absolutely loved it), every time I went to return to My Castle, it sent me to the save of the battle in chapter 27 Is there no way to return to My castle and continue doing the small missions, and increase my character's relationships, or is it once you finish the main storyline, that's it ??
Just return to your save at the start of the mission or before you went to it, not the battle save. You probably already worked around it, but maybe someone else has the same problem.
fire emblem fates is pretty much a trio of games: conquest, birthright and revelation. They all play similarly, but they're completely different experiences

the only thing encouraging people to not buy the game because of localization issues will accomplish is to ensure future games won't get localized at all. I'm not sure what you're expecting.
Is the game really as easy as the reviewer says? I really don't want to have to go to the hardest difficulty for a challenge. I like how Birthright looks compared to Conquest (as far as characters and such) , but if its gonna be really easy compared to Conquest, I'll have to get Conquest instead. Or I'll just have to wait for Revelation/Invisible Kingdom/Whatever its called.
Royal Smitty FE 4&5 are connected, FE 6&7 are connected, FE 1&3 are connected, and FE 9&10 are connected. Fates has no connection through any other game except Awakening, but that's only through dimensional travel BS and it doesn't take away from the experience, but I also don't really recommend Fates as an entry point either. I personally think FE7 is a better entry point
You can't take away points from birthright for not having different objectives because that was one of the main differences mentioned by Nintendo between birthright and conquest, with birthrights' missions being easier.

Birthright and Conquest will be available Friday, with Revelations coming March 10 unless you get your hands on the Special Edition, which comes with all 3 immediately.
So, which should I play first? Does it even matter? I don't care about the difficulty difference, just from a story aspect, which of the two should be played first?
Neither side is necessarily right or wrong. They both have their reasons as well as some skeletons in the closet. I guess you could ask yourself "Is it right to leave the family that raised me all my life so I can return to my birth family or do I stay faithful despite my bloodline?"
Hmm, thanks for the feedback. I already chose Conquest because i always felt like family is family, even if I'm not related to them. I was just over on IGN's website and there were some people saying that it's better to play Birthright first because the gameplay in Conquest is more difficult and the story is a little better.
I don't mean to be rude, but you clearly haven't realized the point of this game. Both birthright and conquest take place at the same time, but each game has a different army to join based on the players choice. Personally, If you are going to play both get birthright first because its easier, and then you'll be ready for conquest, but it's up to you.

+Harry Marks Depending on the route, you can choose Hoshido (Birthright), Nohr (Conquest), or neither (Revelations). Of course, due to the way the overseas versions are made, 2/3 routes are closed off when you buy it, and you have to buy the other two at around 20 bucks a route.

I'm aware that you can buy and download whichever version you didn't initially get at a reduced price, when you make the decision at the chapter for it, but how does it download it exactly? If I purchase Conquest, and want to purchase Birthright as well, and choose the path just to purchase the game, will it switch me to Birthright after it's downloaded, or will I have a Hoshido file on Conquest? While I kind of doubt that, I want to know exactly how it works.

+Simofische I started playing Birthright yesterday (currently at chapter 5), so I don't know much about the story yet, but from what I've heard from other people, the story is kinda meh, though that depends on the version. From what I've heard from the majority, Birthright has an okay story with meh characters, Conquest has the worst story out of the 3 but decent characters and Revelations has the best mix of the 2, but it's not amazing either. Again, I don't have any opinions on it yet, but do you think the story and characters are all good in all versions? I do have to say that I love the gameplay so far.
Luckystars I guess, but whenever I go to Serenes Forest or the Fire Emblem subreddit, I see people saying Conquest's story is the worst because of how dumb Corrin and Azura are. Again, can't comment on that, because I haven't played Conquest yet, but as for Birthright, the story has been kinda boring so far. I hope it gets better.

+MrWotsItoya Here's the story: Corrin, the protagonist, was born in the kingdom of Hoshido but was kidnapped as a baby by the Nohr. When he grows up, he somehow ends up in Hoshido and learns what happened, he then gets stuck in a war, found by his Nohr 'siblings' in the middle of it, his Hoshido siblings come after him. He's then forced to make a choice on whether to defend Hoshido, help Nohr invade Hoshido or choose neither. Choosing neither comes from the DLC only path called Revelation, but Nintendo highly recommends choosing that after playing the other 2. Once you buy one of the card versions, you can buy the other path as DLC at a cheaper price than buying both physically. The special edition has all 3 on one card though. I suggest getting all 3 paths if you want the full story, as it looks really interesting and mysterious as a whole. Thing is though, it's hard to choose before buying if you want to choose based on the characters that are strictly on one kingdom(The siblings only I think), as you barely know them. The only factor you can base your choice on is the gameplay. If you want a harder game, get Conquest which is the Nohr side, you also get no world map and a few other things. If you want an easier game with a world map then get Birthright which is set in Hoshido. There are other differences, but I can't think of any off the top of my head right now, sorry. You'll probably have to look for the other differences yourself or see if somebody else replies. (Edit: Oh, there's a helpful chap who sent his reply before me. :P) Personally, I'm starting from difficulty easiest to highest being Hoshido to Nohr, Revelation is in between in terms of difficulty but as I said earlier, Nintendo highly recommends that players choose Revelation last as there's spoilers involved referring to the other 2 paths. Oh, another thing: The first 5 chapters are the same in both versions and then chapter 6 is the one you make the choice in. I THINK that's all I need to tell you, sorry for the long wall of text. :P
The "nerve-wracking" moment is literally the first fight in the Birthright path, and is designed to be won with ease. I don't think that was the best example of the kind of fights in the game.
I just finished conquest but think she is making birthright sound like it was actually hard. Maybe because I got conquest. And Xander and Ryoma were pretty evenly matched.
Am I the only one that thinks this would make a great movie or play? A title like "Conquest and Birthright" would be firing since it can work with both game stories.

I love conquest so far!!! I bet this is great too but her one issue as far as objectives go conquest thrives off of. I mean when you recruit azura it's basically a stealth mission on her part! I mean who thought there was going to be a stealth mission in Fire emblem! :)
I'm new to the Fire Emblem franchise, and I think I'm gonna start out with Birthright-Hard-Classic Mode. I heard that Normal is just way too easy, even though I'm new I still want to have some challenge.
+Liam Moore honestly you're fine. Awakening is a great intro to the series, but if you're starting with Fates, I've heard Brithright is better for newcomers. Conquest has the better mission objectives, but it's supposed to be harder and more geared towards experienced players.

I cancelled my preorder when the censorship happened, then reordered when Nintendo announced you can bypass the lock with an S-rank plus they kept the 2D animation thing on the bottom screen when they talk to you in your room. Bittersweet to be sure, but overall I'm sure I won't regret.
Fire Emblem Birthright is a good one to start with. The difficulty curve isn't high and you can grind some levels in case you get stuck on a level. And most Fire Emblem have self-contained stories so you don't need to know anything from other titles to enjoy it.
If you hate how slow this reviewer talks change the speed to 1.25 you'll be much better off.

I heard if you buy the game digitally or buy the special edition, you get all three paths. But if you buy a physical copy of Conquest, you're locked to that choice.
+hardrockmusickid Buying the game digitally gives you one version. There are two FE Fates games on the Eshop, one for each version and whichever one you purchase is the one you're locked into. However, once the decision moment comes in the game, there will be an option to buy the other path, with the third one becoming available March 10th. You could buy both versions directly from the Eshop, but it specifically says in the game's description not to do that because doing so will not allow you to get the $20 discount on the second version, which can only be taken advantage of in-game. You were right on the Special Edition, all 3 paths are immediately available.

I have to admit After playing Birthrights and Conquest I Have to say Conquest Wins it just feels more like fire emblem I liked the story better, it was more intense as you did not have a lot of time to level up your units when I played birthrights I got really bored since really Every single mission is ROUT THE GODAMN ENEMY AND DEFEAT THE EASY BOSS. Overall I think Conquest was better

Revelation is the third and final path of the game(the game is split into three parts, Birthright, Conquest, and Revelation). Revelation basically uses plot points from the two other stories, and is a little harder than Birthright, but not as hard as Conquest.
Also, yes, the game runs on the 2DS.

In terms of release, sort of. Awakening -> Shadow Dragon -> Birthright/Conquest -> Revelations.
In terms of story, Awakening and Shadow Dragon have nothing to do with Fates. They are set in their own little universes and are almost completely independent from Fates, so you don't need to play either to understand and enjoy Fates.
If you are new to FE, then get Birthright. It's much easier for newer players to get accustomed to the FE universe and game mechanics. Conquest is much harder and more unforgiving. Revelations, the third route and only available through DLC is somewhere in the middle.
Naw FE13 > FE6 > FE4 > everything else

After I finished the main storyline for Birthright (I absolutely loved it), every time I went to return to My Castle, it sent me to the save of the battle in chapter 27
Is there no way to return to My castle and continue doing the small missions, and increase my character's relationships, or is it once you finish the main storyline, that's it ??
Just return to your save at the start of the mission or before you went to it, not the battle save. You probably already worked around it, but maybe someone else has the same problem.

the only thing encouraging people to not buy the game because of localization issues will accomplish is to ensure future games won't get localized at all. I'm not sure what you're expecting.

Royal Smitty FE 4&5 are connected, FE 6&7 are connected, FE 1&3 are connected, and FE 9&10 are connected. Fates has no connection through any other game except Awakening, but that's only through dimensional travel BS and it doesn't take away from the experience, but I also don't really recommend Fates as an entry point either. I personally think FE7 is a better entry point

You can't take away points from birthright for not having different objectives because that was one of the main differences mentioned by Nintendo between birthright and conquest, with birthrights' missions being easier.

+adog733 Two will be available to buy this Friday (Birthright+Conquest). Once you buy one, you can get the other paths as DLC. Each one is a stand-alone game though, so you don't need to buy the other paths if you don't want to.

Birthright and Conquest will be available Friday, with Revelations coming March 10 unless you get your hands on the Special Edition, which comes with all 3 immediately.

Neither side is necessarily right or wrong. They both have their reasons as well as some skeletons in the closet. I guess you could ask yourself "Is it right to leave the family that raised me all my life so I can return to my birth family or do I stay faithful despite my bloodline?"

I don't mean to be rude, but you clearly haven't realized the point of this game. Both birthright and conquest take place at the same time, but each game has a different army to join based on the players choice. Personally, If you are going to play both get birthright first because its easier, and then you'll be ready for conquest, but it's up to you.

+Harry Marks Depending on the route, you can choose Hoshido (Birthright), Nohr (Conquest), or neither (Revelations). Of course, due to the way the overseas versions are made, 2/3 routes are closed off when you buy it, and you have to buy the other two at around 20 bucks a route.

Chapters 1-6 are the intro parts of the game. Once you get over that the chapters will take 40-60 mins to finish
I'd like to know how purchasing a second version of this game works, if IGN or anyone knows this. I'm aware that you can buy and download whichever version you didn't initially get at a reduced price, when you make the decision at the chapter for it, but how does it download it exactly? If I purchase Conquest, and want to purchase Birthright as well, and choose the path just to purchase the game, will it switch me to Birthright after it's downloaded, or will I have a Hoshido file on Conquest? While I kind of doubt that, I want to know exactly how it works.

I started playing Birthright yesterday (currently at chapter 5), so I don't know much about the story yet, but from what I've heard from other people, the story is kinda meh, though that depends on the version. From what I've heard from the majority, Birthright has an okay story with meh characters, Conquest has the worst story out of the 3 but decent characters and Revelations has the best mix of the 2, but it's not amazing either. Again, I don't have any opinions on it yet, but do you think the story and characters are all good in all versions? I do have to say that I love the gameplay so far.
Luckystars I guess, but whenever I go to Serenes Forest or the Fire Emblem subreddit, I see people saying Conquest's story is the worst because of how dumb Corrin and Azura are. Again, can't comment on that, because I haven't played Conquest yet, but as for Birthright, the story has been kinda boring so far. I hope it gets better.

Corrin, the protagonist, was born in the kingdom of Hoshido but was kidnapped as a baby by the Nohr. When he grows up, he somehow ends up in Hoshido and learns what happened, he then gets stuck in a war, found by his Nohr 'siblings' in the middle of it, his Hoshido siblings come after him. He's then forced to make a choice on whether to defend Hoshido, help Nohr invade Hoshido or choose neither. Choosing neither comes from the DLC only path called Revelation, but Nintendo highly recommends choosing that after playing the other 2. Once you buy one of the card versions, you can buy the other path as DLC at a cheaper price than buying both physically. The special edition has all 3 on one card though.
I suggest getting all 3 paths if you want the full story, as it looks really interesting and mysterious as a whole.
Thing is though, it's hard to choose before buying if you want to choose based on the characters that are strictly on one kingdom(The siblings only I think), as you barely know them. The only factor you can base your choice on is the gameplay. If you want a harder game, get Conquest which is the Nohr side, you also get no world map and a few other things. If you want an easier game with a world map then get Birthright which is set in Hoshido. There are other differences, but I can't think of any off the top of my head right now, sorry. You'll probably have to look for the other differences yourself or see if somebody else replies. (Edit: Oh, there's a helpful chap who sent his reply before me. :P)
Personally, I'm starting from difficulty easiest to highest being Hoshido to Nohr, Revelation is in between in terms of difficulty but as I said earlier, Nintendo highly recommends that players choose Revelation last as there's spoilers involved referring to the other 2 paths.
Oh, another thing: The first 5 chapters are the same in both versions and then chapter 6 is the one you make the choice in.

The "nerve-wracking" moment is literally the first fight in the Birthright path, and is designed to be won with ease. I don't think that was the best example of the kind of fights in the game.
I just finished conquest but think she is making birthright sound like it was actually hard. Maybe because I got conquest. And Xander and Ryoma were pretty evenly matched.

Conquest is a lot more difficult, and you have limited money as well. Birthright is easier, and you can grind and get as much money as you want.

I'm new to the Fire Emblem franchise, and I think I'm gonna start out with Birthright-Hard-Classic Mode. I heard that Normal is just way too easy, even though I'm new I still want to have some challenge.

I cancelled my preorder when the censorship happened, then reordered when Nintendo announced you can bypass the lock with an S-rank plus they kept the 2D animation thing on the bottom screen when they talk to you in your room. Bittersweet to be sure, but overall I'm sure I won't regret.

Fire Emblem Birthright is a good one to start with. The difficulty curve isn't high and you can grind some levels in case you get stuck on a level. And most Fire Emblem have self-contained stories so you don't need to know anything from other titles to enjoy it.
