I’ve had mine for about 10 years and I love it!
Actually, there’s a story one I was looking at I was waiting in line for the salesman to take it down from the wall for me and I was watching the two gentleman front of me ogle it and talk about it and I knew exactly what I wanted, they spent 15 or 20 minutes with the gentleman and then they just walked away. I walked up to the gentleman told him to take it down. I looked at it and no more than three minutes later I said wrap it up and I’ll see you in three days. I did fill out that Illinois information and federal information but that’s besides the point.

The M-14 is basically a magazine fed M-1; the.308 basically is a sized down 30;06 In Vietnam for my first 3 months I carried a fully automatic version which had a switch for safe, semi and full auto! The rifle was in no way Cherry. The stock was in bad shape and the firing pin was chipped; I requisitioned a replacement stock and installed a new firing pin. The rifling wasn't as sharp as it would have been new; however, the piece could drive nails at 300 yards. I respected that Rifle! Three months later in November of 1966, our unit was issued the M-16 I jokingly held it by it's caring handle and acted as if it were a field radio. My Major was not amused! Although the M-16 was a good weapon, I personally prefer the M-14. .223 doesn't have the knock-down power of the .308.

Agree... and the percussion when fired (especially at close range) would have them thinking twice about reengaging... that hesitation would win many firefights...

i was told some of them were not made up to standards , but the ones ive had worked great. defense contractors can differ in the quality of their work. for the m15 version i had some ideas on how they could have been really great SAWs. but you know how bureaucrats and bureaus can get something that works and make a mess. ribbed barrel, rubber pad, tritium night firing aide, things like that would have been nice. i like this 50 round magazine, but remember the french chauchat? the open sides of the magazine is a real problem. dirt and sand and crud are not mr. rifleman's friends.

Theres a reason they make the m1a socom16. Not a marksman rifle but I'd take it over an ar or even an ak for damn near any purpose any hour of the day and every day of the week.
There is something about the look and especially the feel of a 'traditional' rifle. Feels as natural as a spear.

I love it. The nostalgia meets modern style. The 50 round drum is sweet as well. Springfield definitely makes fine weapons . I myself have the Springfield Saint Victor .308 AR-10 with the Magpul 50 round drum magazine. I would love to get my own SOCOM 16 in camo.

On my list of must haves!. It really is a great rifle and if you know how to shoot you can make really long shots and hit the bullseye with just the iron sights.

The SOCOM 16 is not a cousin of the Garand M1. It is the same grandson just quited the service in the Army and living the Civil life.
But always ready to come back to the military service in case.
You are absolutely right - this is the thing every American "must have" in his house. With ammo, greased and in a proper condition .
The citizens of the Free world countries, having the frontier with the Russia, have to hold in their houses the SKS.
    Best wishes for Americans.
    God bless America!
