i was just having a conversation with a buddy about this song i said "its a classic country hit but its really a rock and roll song" he said "did a rock band ever cover it?" i said "i never heard one" he said "lets check the internet" so here we are apparently a rock band has covered it the fucking rolling stones
WOW, I cherished that first Taj Mahal album when my oldest sisters university roommate gave it to me for my 13th birthday. All these decades later I still come back to this and other albums I had grown up with! Mick and the boys did a good job. Great to see my Man playing with them! I especially loved cruising to this song! Thanks for uploading this. I've subscribed and will look forward to more from you! 🚘❤💃🏻🎶🎉
It’s not a Stones song. It was written and first recorded by Dave Dudley decades ago. Also covered by dozens of people including the Flying Burrito Brothers and Taj.
@@ChristopherBix Not written by Dudley, written by Earl Green & Carl Montgomery. Not first recorded by Dudley, but by Paul Davis. But yeah, Dudley made it a famous hit.
Just looked it up. A "Georgia Overdrive" is kind of an inside joke, it means driving downhill in neutral, using gravity to save on gas and go faster than the engine can when in gear.
The Tom Petty / Mudcrutch version is clearly modeled on Taj Mahal's studio version, on an old album called Giant Step. Lyrics like "...and she's running like she never did before," and "...a sweet Georgia overdrive" are from Taj's version. Even the instrumental intro is based on TM's version.
thats my grandfather ❤❤ im so proud of him
The Stones were always Country boys at heart.
I have Taj. Several times he truly has the soul of a bluesman. Great shows. Love you Taj
Taj Mahal is a national treasure. Have seen him 6-7 times over the years.
They all are...
Very good version of a classic and so good to see the Stones invite Taj up on stage for it 🙂

I hadn’t heard this version before tonight, but.. yes, I think it was Dave Dudley who first sang it.
You should check out the version by British band Vincent Flatts Final Drive. Knocks this into a cocked hat!

another great version ruclips.net/video/mTSS1Sx04lo/видео.html
George Thorogood (sp?) and the Delaware destroyers did a cover. its an old song so tons of bands of many genres did covers of it over the years
Thank you -- a great version of that number!
Taj, your original version of this is amazing, not surprised Mick and the boys jumped on it. Good on them giving credit to their inspirations.

Holy Toledo! Thank you for this.
Mick and the band and the Taj kick Southern rock ass -
The Stones invented "southern rock".
wonderfull!!
I Love Mick, I Love Keef, I Love Charlie, I Love Taj, I Love Jessie Ed James
Davis.
He was long dead when this was recorded. Great player.
I wonder if Keith was thinking about his old buddy Gram.
definitely
Stones sound amazing...great rocker
Rock on 👍, Nyce Natty TAJ!.
Keith always looks like a cartoon version of Keith.
ya like a simpsons version
I knew this was a rolling stone song. but just keep on educating the World.

Best country band ever!
👏❤
Johnny Rivers does a great version of this.
Great, with a real solo it would have been even greater
Actually, this is kind of sad. And I got money that says not one of these men know what a Georgia overdrive is.
Just looked it up. A "Georgia Overdrive" is kind of an inside joke, it means driving downhill in neutral, using gravity to save on gas and go faster than the engine can when in gear.
@@jakollee thanks. 'preciate ya!
It was a nice thought but it’s a shame the boys never rehearsed it before.
I bet Dave Dudley's getting a kick out this .
mick, love you but let me hear Taj
Tom Petty version blows this one out of water.

Prefer the Burritos' version. Gram had a sweeter voice than Mick.
Not good 😢 Compare this to Gram Parson’s version 😣 GP would be turning in his grave …both of them 😢
This is terrible, Dave is rolling in his grave
It was recorded on a couple of cell phones. What do you expect?
Umm, no Mick. Just no.
There's really no words for this....awful. Should be illegal to sound this bad.
nice way to ruin a song
Mick Jagger is the worst singer in the world.
This is terrible.
Man this was terrible.
