Having a proper ending is just better of future viewings by audiences on streaming platforms. Definitely deserves at least a 2 hour streaming movie to wrap things up.
I was hoping for a season 5 and then a movie later on. Cramming all of season 5 into a movie would probably feel forced to me. I guess it would be something, but if it would be anything like GoT s8 then I’d rather get nothing. It’s bullshit cause they got the show back on track with season 4, and 5 was probably gonna be the best one other than season one ofc
What future viewing by audiences? Why would someone start watching TV show knowing that it has no end? Game of thrones have universally bad ending, but at least it had ending and still can be watched. But with hunders of tv shows on streaming platforms, why invest time to something that doesn´t have conclusion? HBO has now only House of Dragons. Gilded Age, Nevers, or Euphoria are specific not for as many viewers. There are still new series (with risk of cancelaltion - that why I rarely watch new things) and lots finished tv shows.
@@MrBuketman You gonna pay for it? Nope. It's not a public service. It's an entertainment company. It's just a show, and not that great a one after the first season. Move on.
@@Joan1Marti Dolores turned out not to be physically there the whole season, her saying she was going on an "other loop" as the rest of humanity is either killing each other or hiding in the desert felt pretty final to me.
I tried to love the show, and it was my favorite show for the first season, but it went way off the rails for me. I don't know where I expected it to go, but I don't like where it went.
Season 1 was a masterpiece for me, 5/5. I watched also season 2 and 3, but I really didn't enjoy them and didn't see any reason to torture myself anymore with season 4.
Series one of Westworld is possibly my favourite TV series ever. And while I also enjoyed the rest of the seasons, the show got a lot different, turning from a western/sci-fi to purely sci-fi. I think the western aspect is in many ways what people remember most from both the book, 70's movie and series one, so slowly abandoning this aspect of the story in S2 and pretty much completely for S3 and S4, tunderstandably urned many people off the show. Shame then, that one of the big cliffhangers seems to indicate a return to a similar story as season one. I am and always will be in love with this show, and am bummed by the cancellation, but I do understand and accept as valid the reasoning behind that decision.
I agree. Losing the Western aspect meant that it just wasn't about thee same things any more - America's future and past, nostalgia and speculative fiction being examined at the same time. That angle was crucial for me.
I agree the western park aspect made it amazing. Going into the real world turned it into something else. Season 1 was about the awakening and 2 was about Moses story arc. But no idea what 3 and 4 was about.
The first season was nothing but the writers playing off of nostalgia from the Westworld movie from the 70s and the book. They already had this vision for where they wanted the story to go after season 1, but they believed that they couldn't bring in an audience with another post apocalyptic, near future story without the tie ins to a 50 year old movie.
@@ryanventer9221 - that is not always a bad thing. HBO's WW did turn the tables. I did like aspects of Season 3 and Season 4 was better, over all. Season 3 was "Robot Machines" vs "Big AI Machine"... Machine imitating life, life imitating machines.
I loved the show during the first two seasons, but man, was it hard to follow the last two. It seemed like they just kept trying to run that "are they or aren't they robots?" and multiple timeline back and forths, that it just got discombobulated. I still would've liked to see a final season.
@@jonfreeman9682 Yeah. Sometimes people get caught up in trying to blow our minds. The concept of a Westworld and the hosts was mind-blowing enough. Keep the storytelling simpler and stop trying for all the "AHA" moments.
I feel the same... West world SUCKED. It wasted such a cool concept on a ridiculously convoluted and confusing plot with way too many subplots. I found it INFURIATING. and it kept teasing cool ideas and not fleshing them out. Like the Asian world for example. All in all, a very disappointing experience. So unsatisfying.
the walking around the city just to input data into computers was so boring..even though age of ultron is different,it really was what i wanted to happen, for the ai to be alien in origin..but no they made it as boring and dragged it out as long as possible...
Unpopular opinion: The Series lived through outstanding Anthony Hopkins a.k.a. Dr. Ford and died with him. Dr. Ford represented what Westworld once stood for: Philosophical dialogue, intriguing, complex but likeable characters and crazy twists. And without him, Westworld turned out to be only a shell of its former greatness.
@@manolisdaskalakis8206 Actually I think thats what the majority of viewers think. There's a reason it got cancelled - because the silent majority got to season 3 and were like "Well, this is shit." The first season though - that was pure magic.
The end of season two actually wrapped things up really nicely. The real purpose of the park was gathering dna from the rich guests for nefarious purposes. Ford felt so guilty of his part in prolonging the hosts suffering that he created a digital heaven for them to escape to under the noses of the board directors. William went insane and Dolores and bernard went out to experience the real world. Period. They wanted to go bigger in season 3 but the Rehoboam thing really took the show off the rails.
Well put and sums up my feelings as well. S3 felt like a revenge flick/ SciFi mashup with neither being done particularly well. Although I am glad I persevered long enough to see the Wicked Games scene.
for me it was the weird turn right at the end of season 3 because through out the season it felt like they were going full terminator but then Delores just changes her mind and wants to save humanity
One of the issues they had, I think, was the decision to release it weekly. I appreciate that happens with many other shows (especially tentpole TV like GoT and many of the Star Wars/Marvel shows) but, unlike GoT as an example, Westworld screamed out to be paused and pored over and picked apart in such a way that people had already worked out the twists by the time they got revealed (two timelines, who the man in black was etc). But then by season 2 there were twists being expected that *_didn't_* work out - Arnold had an obvious head scar sometimes and other times not, yet that just turned out to be an epic continuity balls-up. Then the idea that different 'pearls' got put into new hosts bodies, that there was more than one Dolores, and so on, just became needlessly confusing. Plus it got a little too preachy and a little too pretentious for its own good, ultimately.
To me, this is a shame because season 4 improved drastically when compared to S3 and even S2 at some places. I think by the time they wrote S4 they finally had a clear path, everything was tight and just visually impressive. Our only hope as it tends to be in these cases, is that another platform buys the rights to it and give the opportunity to the creators to wrap things up. Although, that has not happened to Hannibal so it probably won't happen to Westworld :/
I hated the first 2 seasons . What an absolute WASTE of a super cool concept. Just an overly convoluted and confusing plot that teased a few great ideas and never fleshed them out. I really wanted to see some stories in the Asian world wtf. Just made me frustrated and disappointed in the end. I don’t even care to watch season 3 or 4 at all. Game of thrones was also convoluted and confusing at times but it did a MUCH better job at keeping me interested and engaged.
Makes sense. Honestly, I'm a little surprised it didn't get canceled during Covid. It was just way too long of a wait between seasons 3 and 4 to keep the emotional investment. The way 4 started, in their wibbly wobbly, slow burn way, I watched two episodes, found no attachment and stopped.
I watched the whole of Season 4, as I paid for the whole season in one go. If I hadn't had done that, then u would have stopped few episodes in. You didn't miss much.
I watched until it was over but it was over long before the end......I just didn't care any more. Morbid curiosity kept me in the game but it wasn't entertaining. The greatness of season one still remains and should have been the end.
you may notice the wet dress in s2e6 at 3: 50. The same wet dress as at the end of season 4. In general, the end of season 2 seems like the beginning of season 5. There were a dozen more references. So it shouldn't end with season 4.
When the first season aired, they already told the news that there were 5 seasons planned and they knew a little bit about the rough plot of each season.
That’s bc the concept is actually the hidden plans of the world elite. One of the oldest in the book. It’s called new world order where they plan to get or destroy the old world so the elite can live in a futuristic utopian world. I guess the powers of Hollywood didn’t want their plans showcased on television. They didn’t want to show that they plan to destroy everything with only a select few surviving till the very end. It’s the same the Phoenix rising from the ashes conceot, the Christian conceot with the antichrist, and the satanic agenda to make a new world order. Order out of chaos which should really be, gain full control out of the chaos we create. I won’t be surprised if the creators of this show wind up meeting an untimely demise soon
well the story WAS finished really... Maybe not in the way we hoped for. I love the show, but didn't expect it to continue. This ending makes sense, everything went full circle, we are back in the original westworld, and whatever happens next is up to our interpretation.
I love Westworld. It continued to blow my mind - more thematically than plot, as the seasons went on - but I love the ideas behind it, how it explored the concept of personhood, identity, fate v. free will... I **like** twisty dense plotlines! I am really sad there won't be a 5th season, no wrap-up at all.
I'm so sad... Last season was really good (I personnaly loved every one of them) but I get that people liked the first way more than others. Still, the fourth was really close to the first : awesome ! They just rushed the last episode in case fifth season was cancelled and it happens. It's my favored show, so smart and well done, I'm sad and that's the second time (with Utopia)that I'm in that position. To bad they wasn't allow to make the show complete...
If you want a continuation in real life just read "Eric Berne - Games people play" and/or another of his books "What to say after hello". The intro for Westworld is written in the last book even though these books have nothing to do with the movies/series. "He carries out his script because it is panned in his head at an early age by his parents, and stays there for the rest of his life even after their vocal 'flesh' has gone forevermore. It acts like a computer-tape or a player-piano roll, which bring out the responses in a planned order long after the person who punched the holes has departed the scene. Jeder meanwhile sits before the piano, moving his fingers along the keyboard under the illusion that is he who brings the folksy ballad or the stately concerto to its foregone conclusion" (Berne, 1972) Edited: This is not Sci-fi but actual specialized psychology literature.
Ya me too .. they tried to make it good .but personally talking the show could have concluded on the second season like .. after they leave the park it felt like the story was collapsing
The series outgrew its original premise, for better or worse depending on your point of view, but it was consistently beautifully made and well acted for its entire run. I was still a fan and hate that they, and we as viewers, won't get the ending it deserved.
Westworld was excellent in season 1, season 1 was one of the best seasons of television ever. I enjoyed season 2 but I didn't care for season 3 or 4. This show was only supposed to be 4 seasons anyway so I was shocked when I heard there was supposed to be a season 5 but now it's cancelled.
After the second season it was just something my wife and I watched because we hoped it would go somewhere. However, it floundered around, got overly complicated, and stopped posing philosophical questions about existence and went instead for twists and turns. When I first heard it was cancelled I thought, "ya, that's fair."
Honestly they should do a premium-budget movie of Westworld that serve as a visual reboot from the original movie but also works as the finale for the show. Two birds one stone 🔥🥰.
I loved the thought of westworld. 1st season is the best TV-Show ever. 2nd one was messy and slow but at times beautiful. 3rd season offered a new environment - but man was it mid tier, Maeve and Hale were two invincible protagonist's with no weaknesses and felt really shallow. 4th season was great, seeing the cracks form within Hales' system.
Yeah mate westworld had an interesting story, good characters, great acting, beautiful cinematography, and very unique ideas. But it also was inconsistent, confusing, and all over the place. And i thought it had some bad writing, with crazy plot twists that didn’t really make much sense. So yeah its 50% good and 50% horrible in my opinion
@@jonsnow1123 no I agree westworld had some very clever concepts. But come on mate you’re telling me you were never confused watching westworld?? 😂😂🤔you’ve got to be lying. I’ve NEVER seen a show more confusing than westworld 🤷♂️but season 1 did the plot twist the best. They actually made sense in season 1. The rest of the seasons I mostly was saying huh?😂😂
@@jonsnow1123 i get that, but man was it poorly executed, i liked the rehoboam plot but maeve, dolores and especially hale were REALLY poorly written characters in season 3
Followed this show religiously, loved every minute, holding my interest at every turn. Sadly, complicated plot twists are not appetizing to some. The heights are troubling to peeps and they got lost along the way. This will be studied retrospectively, and at that time we will feel the full weight of the the loss we have endured. In the mean time, we need to continue on with the show in our hearts and minds.
Perfectly said. Overall plot of the last 2 seasons is too complicated for an average Joe. This series has a great take on a cyberpunk genre and makes you think about some stuff. Unfortunately most people don’t like or have no ability to look beneath the surface of the plot. I cannot understand how series like Black List are still on and this great masterpiece of a show is being cancelled…
I just stopped after season 2. I don’t care much for plot twists as long as I can relate with the characters. Sadly I just don’t care about any of them mid-season 2
What a load of pretentious rubbish!!! Season 1 was far more profound and insightful than 3-4 that felt to me like any other Hollywood series when it comes plot holes. They tried to cram too many ideas in to make the viewer feel he was watching something clever and intellectual. It’s reciprocating process for some it seems. I understand season 3-4 I therefore must be clever.. It’s a Television show not a book on philosophy or quantum physics. It’s about drama and intrigue.
Season 1 was quite deep and interesting. S2 was misguided continuation that was coasting on the coattails of the much better first season. S2 seemed to operate on the misguided idea that confusing the viewer is the main point, so you had emotional impact dulled by the creators chasing after another Big Twist that viewers could never guess. S3 just turned into pure shit. The worldbuilding was starting to fail as the inconsistencies there dragged the whole thing down. The world felt claustrophobic as they needed to introduce every important character but they didn't have time for that many, so this whole wide world only had like 15 important people in it. Plot was nonsensical but since the point again was to confuse, that was okay. I didn't know there was a 4th season. I stopped caring with S3.
Westworld is a TV show that is not made for everyone. If HBO canceled it for money reasons then that's understandable. The rating is expected to decline for the reason that its plot and characters are not made for everyone. Still, it makes me a little sad that it is now canceled. They could have wrapped it up in fifth season even in four episodes.
This sounds like what Disney did to Girl Meets World and it makes me cry. I grew up with Corey, Topanga and Shawn and was excited to see my friends again (not literally of course, just saying now cause theirs always one...) I never thought it would run through college like Boy Meets did but to get cancelled after freshman year after all of us nostalgic nerds just started to get involved in the story again really hurts my soul...
Warner Bros is getting a little crazy with the cancellations. They canceled Raised by Wolves and now westworld! I feel like people are going to be cautious to get invested in these kind of shows if will never get a chance to see how the story ends.
It might be that I'm somewhat OCD about getting closure (some might say ODD) but I've watched every season and truly wanted to see the story arc land somewhere. It DID get less engaging, probably has something to do with considerably less sex for most watchers, tbf, but for me, anyway, it remained interesting to see how they'd write their way out of it.
I really, REALLY wanted this show to work. I loved season one and two, then three really started lifting off the rails. What a shame. Thanks for the video!
This isn't bad news. The last episode of the last season was the most perfect ending the show could have had. It was beautiful. And I loved the last season. Maybe I was the only one.
It was really good, but Maeve‘s story seemed far from over. She tried to find her daughter for 3 seasons only to be shot by Dolores/Charlotte… maybe just put her in paradise too like Dolores with Teddy.
I wonder how this trends with singers selling the rights to their music because it’s more valuable to the labels to have old music in house than produce new stuff. Netflix came to dominance because they had a wide variety of content in their collection, not new hits.
There seems to be certain subjects which are off-limits to humanity. One is the truth about our history, which was being covered in the show Deadwood, and the other is about human nature, which is being covered by Westworld, both are being canceled, even though they are extremely popular without wrapping up and ending.
Tks for the link, didn't know there was a show called 'deadwood', you make it sound like Ancient Aliens, which is actually good stuff mostly, compared to all the new history channel spin offs....that are mostly focused on regrettable garbage.
Very, very observant. One hundred percent correct. Every episode of every season of both shows were pure brilliance, one shining light on the past, one illuminating the future. Deadwood is considered by many to be a masterpiece. A series that swears too much by others. I think histories' critics will bring them the rational judgment the passage of time allows, and it will be positive.
Wow I screen shot this bc wow what beautiful words! You nailed it! I loved Westworld and feel like the viewership was there, they just didn’t want to keep the budget going bc they are cheap.
Wow, HBO was one of the few providers that I actually had respect for. They always seemed to deliver solid hits, and actually finished what they started. For them to do this, I guess it’s either the signs of the time. But I can’t believe they left their fans handing. At least a proper final movie. I don’t even want to finish season 4 now. 😢
@@panzerwafflez7228 Game of Thrones was still solid till the end, just the fantard base got upset because D&D likely deviated from canon... which incidentally will never be written--George would have likely had Jon-not-king and Danny-dead in any case like her mad brethren. S8 was still infinitely better than any post-S1 episode of Westworld. Just garbled gobbledegook with contrived writing/acting. If GoT were written in today, it would suffer this fate also as any other program is suffering... contrived writing with equality/wokish agenda. Yuck. You cannot write medieval like that. It will not wash. Look at the state of Rings of Power! Food4thought: Westworld was axed because no-one wanted to watch the tripe anymore and it would lose a huge amount of money.
I live this show. Every season they tackled some big idea and kept each season fresh in how it approached the idea. You can tell they writers put thought into the material and did not get lazy. I thought season 4 was the last, but now I am bummed about missing a 5th season I didn't know I was going to have but now never will.
Westworld was so unique and I know why most ppl quit watching or paying for hbo Max. Westworld was undoubtedly the only show left on the streaming service left to watch, with the major failure of game of thrones and the prequel…. Many other shows were canceled over the years like through the pines, or true detective these shows were unlike anything else on standard streaming services…….. I was a hbo max subscriber for years and the reason why I canceled was not only bc of the bad ending of Got, but bc I paid through xfinity. My cable provider who has a monopoly in my area raised their cable costs tremendously during Covid 19, and with food on the rise along with gas and everything else, I had to cut my cable. With this said, I now only pay for internet and have a fire stick. With having a fire stick, I have to pay for each app monthly, I can’t pre order things like I could with xfinity. If I want to keep hbo then it comes out of my account monthly, I can’t be behind a month or order stuff before I get paid. This was an important option for me when I had cable. Being able to order things before getting paid allowed me to buy more, bc I had the “watch now pay later.” So I undoubtedly bought more apps and movies with this option. But now with being a sub I have to have money in my account to watch anything, so I don’t get to watch as much. Why? Well when I get paid if I don’t owe anyone then it makes sense to make better choices with my money lol. Another thing to point out, is free streaming services are available. I was able to watch Westworld merely for free during season 4, and I of course got this app through a friend. I’m sure many are using the same app. You pay 20 bucks a month and have access to anything you can imagine. From everything on netflix, to hbo to any movie. I’m sure these barely legal apps and websites along with inflation is why hbo didn’t see so many viewership. Just bc they didn’t see the numbers doesn’t mean the viewers weren’t there, watching it in real time like everyone else. With this said, I feel like many places will go under. I’ve canceled everything except for Amazon prime, the first ti go was Netflix and hbo. Those providers just had very little things I actually watched. Especially netflix raising their costs, I felt like they were the ones who didn’t need to charge as much as they did bc while some series were great, many of their movies were boring over the years and to me, weren’t Hollywood standards. Didn’t matter the fact that they had big actors or actresses within the movies, I felt like they had poor writers and their movies should be lower rated to say the least. Not movie theater quality in my opinion. My fiancé to this day refuses to watch any movie made by Netflix bc he believes it will be dog poop, and after watching hundreds of these movies, I have to agree with him. Netflix, I did watch a lot but I wasn’t left satisfied. I think Westworld season 5 should have got to finish. I loved the show from the visuals to the acting was amazing. You had haters complaining about the fact that they seen a Land Rover in a futuristic setting. I mean they didn’t have much to complain about lol. The Reddit on Westworld was laughable bc you had ppl complaining about things that didn’t matter. I believe most ppl who watched the series loved it. The writing was brilliant. Now at the ripe age of 32, I can predict most things that are going to happen in movies or shows. But with Westworld, it was untainted territory, these ideas were never showcased before, so I was left gripping my pearls by the end of each episode. Dying to see what would happen next. Now with this sudden cancellation, I’m mortified to say the least, and whatever company decides to renew the series, I will pay for the app. Like I said, if it wasn’t for inflation and Covid I think they would have seen high numbers. They only lost my viewership bc I lost my cable provider. I was paying 375 a month just for cable and hbo. Now I pay 50 a month for internet. Big cost to cut when you live in a world with eggs being 6 bucks and milk being 5 dollars and bread at 4. And I live in the poorest state I can imagine the cost in california or NYC
Every season had a signature episode Season 1: Finale 9/10. Overall this was their best season. A masterpiece. Season 2: Kiksuya 10/10 Best episode of the franchise. This episode alone is a reason to watch all of season 2. Season 3: Episode 6 8/10 Hale’s family attacked. This season had it’s moments but plot started to get more confusing. Season 4: Nothing. This season felt like homework. The deaths were unemotional. AI William was boring. Frankly, every character were just more boring versions of themselves compared to previous seasons. The show took a hit with Delores as a sideshow instead of driving the plot.
I watched season 3 begrudgingly since I had committed so hard to season 1 & 2, but as soon as Westworld went off the grid (literally) and focused more on the real world, it lost its luster to investigate these parks.
I loved the show, and especially the later seasons, and I am extremely disappointed we won't get to see the story end. I do understand why it lost viewers though. The way the show was written in the last 2 seasons, it was a very interesting plot, but the secretive-until-almost-the-end nature of it meant the pace of the show would suffer. Even I admit that if I didn't love the show, sitting through until past mid-season until something crazy happened was a too much for most viewers.
Completely agree with you on seasons 3 and 4. This series has a great take on cyberpunk genre. But people are stupid and cannot grasp a complicated plot. Also the show initially being marketed as set in a Wild West environment completely abandoning it in season 3 made many people quit. To me personally season 3 was one of the best TV I watched. Idk why people hate on Aaron Paul’s character he has a great and kind of tragic storyline
Another thing I want to say is season 5 was supposed to return to the west. So a lot of season 1 lovers would get their old fantasy back. The writers also said some old characters would make their appearance oncemore. ❤❤ the scriot was already written and the actors and actresses already paid, so I believe they should at least give us the script
It was predictable the last shot of the final episode Dolores returns to Westworld Park. The loop is already closed season 4 we felt the end of this story.
The first season was the best. It was actually set in Westworld, and Anthony Hopkins was the key to the show IMHO. I loved his character and the story around him. How everyone treated his character like too old, too out-of-touch relic when in the show his character was playing them and was actually the smartest person in the room.
The show change genres from a western to a full blown futuristic sci fi. So they lost the western fans but pulling in new sci fi fan mid season 3? Not likely. I loved all of it. Sad there won’t be one more.
How? It was never a western movie! The setting was in the west, but I don’t consider a movie a western just bc it has mountains in the background. From the beginning it was a sci fi show, it’s about robots for crying out loud and AI. The visuals during season 3 were amazing! The futuristic world that they made was not only realistic but phenomenal beauty was captured. The visuals and the exotic places they filmed were pure brilliance and is what made this show unlike anything you’ve ever seen. When I watched this show, I was like “wow this is what a billion dollar budget can buy, unmistakable beauty that sets high standards.” Remember or here is a fun fact what you see is mostly what you GET! The show used a lot of Old filming techniques, not a lot of cgi! So what your seeing is unmistakeable beauty which set some high standards within the film world. The actors did most of their own stunts, barely any doubles used, the vehicles were customized, they traveled around the world to capture the most beautiful city and landscapes, they went to uncharted territories with buildings, gaining access to some of the richest homes in the world. They had to gain private access just to fillm a few scenes! The dam for instance……. So what we are seeing on TV is not only mostly real, but it’s something only a few ppl have ever seen before.
Season 1 was possibly my favorite single season of TV every, I watched season 2 but wasn’t blown away, never watched after that and apparently i wasnt alone
@@MrDezokokotar I had the same experience. Years later I gave it another try and realised „oh wow, I didn’t like simply because I didn’t unterstand half of it…“ ;)
I just couldn't get into S2. There were too many moments where something super left field kept happening like a Macguffin or another random cliff hanger that I didn't really care about. The plot was also moving along really freaking slowly and I got bored with some plot lines.
I honestly think S3 killed the show. A lot of people say it went downhill with S2, and while that is true, S2 at least felt like a true continuation. S3 writing was so bad, it felt like a cheap early 2000’s scifi dystopia movie. Rehoboam was just introduced in the season and felt like a last ditch effort for the show to stay relevant. Plus it was ripping off Fight Club, with so many not-so-subtle social commentaries
I've postponed watching this show for years and binged it only last week... needless to say I've fallen in love! I was heartbroken to learn the last season was cancelled! I do hope they'll find a way to close things off properly because, true, season 3 was a tad messy and confusing but I thought they did an amazing job with 1-2 and then 4!! I want to know so bad what Dolores' final test is all about and how she'll free all the hosts and herself!I truly regret not picking up this show earlier and I can't even imagine how long-time fans must feel! The only thing that gives me some hope was learning that basically all actors are still getting paid for season 5, which had me scratch my head... I understand there are contracts in place, but getting paid for something you didn't end up shooting? Sounds pretty odd to me...but who knows! Let's hope for the best because this show deserves a proper end! It truly is a masterpiece! Saying it as someone that doesn't get easily impressed! Bravo everyone!!!
I couldn't finish this show. I loved the 1st season, and barely got through the 2nd. It strayed so far from the source material and was so confusing to follow. It seemed like the show refused to comit to anything final. Character dies? Just revive them into a host. Character arc over? Reprogram them. Plot stuck? Just alter time and memories.
I actually gave up on it a couple of episodes into season 2. I was thinking I had to binge the entire series before new shows came out, but I guess that won’t be necessary 😱😎
Season 2 episode 8 is a masterpiece. The best episode of all the seasons. Finishing season 2 is worth it for that. Season 3 & 4 are not necessary for the casual viewer. But I still replay s2e8 from time to time because it’s awesome.
@@brendanquirk31 yes it's one of the most amazing episodes of all time. Just a classic conclusion to the Moses story arc. If they stopped right there it would be poetry.
Maybe season five in novel form as a symbol of that world being rebuilt would be cool and satisfying for the true fans whose head the stories message isn't going way over.
Every season of "Westworld" had great episodes. Some more than others. One of my favorite episodes is in season 3 called "Genre". This episode was edited and mixed during the first lockdown in the Covid-19 pandemic and it is very well mixed in 5.1 surround audio. When Caleb takes "genre", a hallucinogenic drug, the sounds swirl around you. It's very psychedelic. I've never seen any TV show use surround sound better than "Westworld". It's unfortunate that many who don't have a surround audio system will not be able to experience this. Unfortunately, this episode was the least-viewed episode in the whole of "Westworld". The warworld simulation in season 3 was also a high point. I enjoyed season 2 better than season 1. Season 1 kept the viewers intrigued by the storyline and the dialogue, but seasons 2 and 3 put more emphasis on the visuals and the audio. Season 4 returned to putting more in the storyline. Many of the negative comments remind me of the way people criticize psychedelic and progressive rock, and applauded when punk rock returned rock to its roots. I was very much looking forward to season 5. Altogether, "Westworld" is still one of the greatest TV dramas ever made, and it is sad to leave it without the end. That said, "The Peripheral" is now my favorite TV show. I hope Amazon picks up "Westworld".
I kind of assumed it was already canceled... i know technically it left off for a bit more, but felt basically wrapped up to me. Would I have watched a season 5? Yes, but definitely felt finished.
After Season 2, we got a short 3rd season telling a story that needed a longer season to flesh it out and the plot wasnt great compared to the past 2 season, and then the 4th season delivered basically a lightning fast story that destroys the 3rd seasons foundations for a bad plot
This is why I really can't commit to any show. So many times they just cancel a show that I've invested in and care about and they don't care. They just move on to the next piece of crap show. Meanwhile they will keep draining every drop out of something that is artistically dead. I'm not saying they should deliberately loose money but How's about we just agree to stop making cliff hanger endings unless they are agreeing to do the next season
I was disappointed to hear the news, even more so after they cancelled Raised By Wolves which really needs some closure (the more ambiguous the better 🙂).
Season 4 worked as a bookender more or less. More than a bit anticlimactic...but still worked. Charlores was definitely wearing out her welcome. Ultimately I loved the show, and always will. Every season had serious strong points. Three was kind of a mess...but it had to be to drive the story forward.
Westworld did so much for me, I really enjoyed it. Personally OK if they can't finish the series with the respect it deserves..... but the other half of me thinks 100m for a season of 8 episodes each 1 hour long... that's still way better, financially speaking, than any 200m movie I've seen in years! I hope one day someone will pick up where things left off and do it justice
I think they did EXCELLENT with Season 4! They broke So many 4th walls over & over in Diff ways, sometimes in the same episode. ( Especially the 1where he waits for himself to come alone to be used as Padding for a safe fall...pur genius&Madness simultaneously..... existential!)
I stopped watching before season 3 ended. The story became less and less grounded making it hard to digest or take seriously. What a shame. It had such a strong and promising first season.
It’s because the story didn’t end yet. A lot of things went full circle. I guess when your mature and have more knowledge you notice a lot more things. I appreciated the show and enjoyed it more the second time I watched the series in full. I was merely 6 years older. Or more. I gained more wisdom. This show probably won’t relate to many naive or young ppl
Season 1 sucked, despite everyone saying that it was amazing and it fell off on season 2. It was so unintentionally hilarious I still have yet to start season 2. The movie was better and more cohesive. The twists were silly and predictable in season 1 as well as shark-jumping, muddling the timeline as much as possible. I liked the first few episodes, but all potential felt lost before I'd even started the 90 minute finale and yet that episode got even worse by having a character have an abrupt character arc WITHIN the same episode that was a total 180, instead of over the course of a season.
I think it was canceled simply because they jumped the shark after season 2 and instead of giving us a more straightforward, nuanced storytelling, they went with lazy stylistic choices over plot, like time jumps, Guess-The-Host shenanigans, and turning Dolores from a compassionate but angry revolutionary into a soulless monster.
It made sense that Delores turned evil before becoming a “god.” It was Ford that said in season 1 that you can’t play God without being acquainted with the devil…. In order for Delores to realize her true path she had to experience the opposite of creation which is destruction.
lets be honest, Anthony Hopkins and the DR Ford character carried the whole concept of the show. as soon as he went at the end of season one each season got progressively worse
Nop, He was the best character but the concept has carried but the other characters too, Maeve, William and Dolores. Never went downfall (just s3) you just don't appreciate for what it is.
Most Sci-fi and speculative tv shows are extremely lucky to make it past 3 seasons...the few who did had good writing, good efx, and dedication to the storyline. Westworld started to dwindle when viewers had difficulty sussing out the simplest plot points.
I'd love them to give us a script since the writers did get paid for season 5. Maybe a short story or a comic. Give us sometime! I already don't trust Netflix since they do this to me all the time.
Oh noooo! But the show did lose its edge after first season. Did they know where to take the story, because it felt pretty bad and cheap for me. Still, I did enjoy the show and wish it continued.
They probably didn't realize it then, but the show was completely ruined by the end of the first season. If a television series could suffer from premature ejaculation, this would be the ultimate example. Delores shooting Robert is the perfect metaphor. If the they were smart, they would have saved the AI Uprising for the end of the series. For those who were hoping for a Season 5, I would imagine that HBO will do with Westworld as they did with Deadwood, by concluding the series with a 2 hour film.
season 1 - incredible. Will never forget it season 2 - horrible. Wish I could forget it season 3 - half way decent but more confusing and convoluted than necessary season 4 - Was back on track to being good/great but still needed some help but was worth watching season 5 - I was looking forward to it and was down to give it a chance. sucks they ended it.
well, firefly comes to mind...along with several anime. Most anime doesn't get a second season and those that do hardly ever get a third. So, it's not uncommon for the people making the anime to end a season with several things left unfinished in the hopes that fans put enough pressure on the production company to force another season.
Firefly was screwed by one Exec who hated Sci Fi, and frigged around with scheduling and the order they were released in. Westworld failed, because the story was getting stale and preachy in other parts!
@@reaverman I've never seen it so i can't comment on that, he just asked if anything else in modern media was treated this way (meaning cancelled without a real conclusion) and i answered.
it seems a lot of the shows I love have ended or about to end. I would like to see them get a movie or miniseries from another network as it sucks they couldn't wrap things up properly. I guess the final episode of Season 4 was changed for this very reason, uncertain if the show would return for a 5th season. But thinking about tv/streaming: Better Call Saul, Westworld, The Expanse and likely The Orville are all done. Stranger Things has 1 more season and it'll be done. which for current tv and streaming series, doesn't leave a lot on my plate for episodic scifi and dramas right now. Something will likely come along such as this new show Vince Gilligan is looking to get picked up. Also maybe both Babylon 5 and Battlestar Galactica's related shows could happen, although these things seem to get stuck in development hell for what can seem like forever after initial news stories about their possibility. The only other show I watch on HBO right now is the LA Lakers show with John C Reilly, which I wouldn't be surprised if it gets cancelled. They also cancelled The Time Traveler's Wife which I actually thought was good and was finding its footing by the end of the 1st season. But I've seen many from Paper Girls to Y: The Last Man, to many other shows that have intrigue but ultimately get pulled due to poor ratings. I'm getting to the point of only feeling like relying on watching old shows that I've never seen before like 12 Monkeys or Man in the High Castle in at least I know how long the show lasts and can watch it through the end of its run.
I thought I was all caught up, but apparently I am not. I had wanted to watch Westworld when it first came out but only got to binge it 2 years ago. I freaking love it
I absolutely adore Westworld... And I was extremely bummed that HBO won't be finishing the show. I've rewatched all the seasons many times and had so many theories for season 5... Ugh 😩 Also... Super tired of getting into shows and never getting a finale cause it got cancelled Netflix does that a lot
To differentiate Netflix from HBO. One of the things they do is the same as Hulu and other streaming services. The purchase already cancelled shows on the cheap from other Television Networks around the world. Then they just show it till the point it got cancelled. This used to extremely annoy me with Hulu at first. I would get into show and when looking into when the next season was coming, I would find it was cancelled before it even started airing on Hulu.. They also do a really annoying thing of calling it a "Netflix Original" for example. When I have checked and it clearly is not.
No wonder so many women enjoyed it, being mainly written by women and including ott super-women in the main parts. This is what killed it. It was just very unrealistic and had a clear agenda in making all white men evil, weak or irrelevant. Some may have liked it, but it had increasingly poor viewing figures and biased critics reviews. Could have been amazing if they'd have stuck to the original concept and had Chris Nolan writing it... ALONE.
Season 3 was the worst season in my opinion but season 4 did get a lot better. I'm surprised with all the awards and attention this show got they won't give them at least six episode final season to wrap things up.
When Ed Harris was questioned to maybe be a robot in the end of season 2, that’s when I lost interest. Cuz they’re clearly just making shit up as they go like Lost or something.
I actually thought it was the series finale after watching the last episode of season 4. didn't know there was going to be a 5th season. they made the right decision. the show had a reasonable ending and didn't need to wrap anything up
This is a bummer. We didn’t even know the show was back last season because of the lack of marketing. If they treated it like House of Dragons in terms of Marketing then we would have watched while it aired.
Season 1 was great, I really enjoyed it, seasons 2-3 felt like a chore to get through, as if the writers were purposely trying to make the audience hate it. I gave up after that.
Having a proper ending is just better of future viewings by audiences on streaming platforms. Definitely deserves at least a 2 hour streaming movie to wrap things up.
Might happen like Deadwood
Every show including the bad ones should have 1-2 episodes worth of time to wrap things up because the audience invested their time and interest.
@@MrBuketman You gonna pay for it? Nope. It's not a public service. It's an entertainment company. It's just a show, and not that great a one after the first season. Move on.
Frankly the end of season 4 felt pretty final. Everybody's dead or not real anymore.
"Not real anymore".. As in real life, as in real life.
@@Joan1Marti Dolores turned out not to be physically there the whole season, her saying she was going on an "other loop" as the rest of humanity is either killing each other or hiding in the desert felt pretty final to me.
Yep thought the same thing
I agree! I thought this last season WAS the final season lol....
Not the hosts
I tried to love the show, and it was my favorite show for the first season, but it went way off the rails for me. I don't know where I expected it to go, but I don't like where it went.
Season 1 was a masterpiece for me, 5/5. I watched also season 2 and 3, but I really didn't enjoy them and didn't see any reason to torture myself anymore with season 4.
I enjoyed the season 2 Moses story arc even though it's pretty woke. But 3 was the worst and 4 started strong but fell flat.
It was a fun ride thou. Many pot holes but still fun ride. I think Westworld will be like Deadwood. Canceled then turned into a 2hr Finale
I started watching season 4 in the hope they would try to get it back on track only to quickly realize it was a lost cause.
@@raistaparta the ending to 4 was awful... a lame shootout and the end. This is not Westworld.
Agreed. Season one, then got bored.
Yeah loved season 1&2 but 3 ran outta story to tell and 4 serves refried beans but the ending fell very flat with a lame shootout.
Yeah they completely wasted Anthony Hopkins 🤦♂️should’ve never killed him off
SPOT ON!!👍
@@manolisdaskalakis8206 Actually I think thats what the majority of viewers think. There's a reason it got cancelled - because the silent majority got to season 3 and were like "Well, this is shit."
The first season though - that was pure magic.
100 right
100% agreed
The client DATA was a huge IP for Delos as well Talk about kompromat!!
for me it was the weird turn right at the end of season 3 because through out the season it felt like they were going full terminator but then Delores just changes her mind and wants to save humanity
First season was fantastic
Second was good
Third was meh
Didn't bother with the fourth
4th season was miles better than the 3rd, maybes better than the second, but for sure nowhere near as good as the first.
Yeah it was must watch for the first two then it was just not cohesive
Spot on
@@chewey3rd really spot on i have to say.
I hated the first 2 seasons
Hannibal has a perfect ending.
Totally agree season 4 was a big improvement
I don't understand about season 3 it was good better than season 1 in my opinion
Westworld was crap after season 1...season 3 was the worst
Makes sense. Honestly, I'm a little surprised it didn't get canceled during Covid. It was just way too long of a wait between seasons 3 and 4 to keep the emotional investment. The way 4 started, in their wibbly wobbly, slow burn way, I watched two episodes, found no attachment and stopped.
Same. I had high hopes for it after season one but they never found that magic again. They strayed too far from what made people enjoy the show.
I was surprised ti know that there was plans for a 5th season. For me the season 4 finale felt like the end...
This! It seemed like it wrapped things up, so I'm having trouble imagining how they could have kept a story going.
you may notice the wet dress in s2e6 at 3: 50.
It’s a real bummer the show wasn’t allowed to be completed, but I think The Peripheral is Westworld’s spiritual successor.
It doesn't even come close to westworld
Most Amazon titles suck..ROP is a perfect example.
@@billriddle9215 most, Reacher, Jack Ryan, Terminal List and Outer Range are all great.

Haven't seen that but Netflix's 1899 is INCREDIBLE and any Westworld fan will enjoy it.
well the story WAS finished really...
You are saying right
I'm so sad...
Jeder meanwhile sits before the piano, moving his fingers along the keyboard under the illusion that is he who brings the folksy ballad or the stately concerto to its foregone conclusion" (Berne, 1972)
Edited: This is not Sci-fi but actual specialized psychology literature.
Nolan & Joy stated from day one that they planned for 5 seasons.
@@Chuckf66 Oh didn't know that
My favorite is Season 1 and 3.
nah, it was supposed to be 5. And season 3 and 4 were just fine
Season I was the best show I've ever watched. I only watched a small portion of season 2 but didn't give myself the time to actually watch it fully.
Once they left the park for me is when the story got uninteresting. I stopped watching after season 3 and I barely finished that.
Absolutely gutted I don't even have words about this
I loved the thought of westworld.

It was the third season that screwed them. The fourth season was actually pretty good, but they bled too many viewers in season three.
I love BMW and also WW so this comment hit hard. Never seen GMW tho
I know! Me and my wife were watching this with our kids. Full circle.
There's no sex but great story season 1 but then lost the plot in 3 and 4. There was no story left to tell.
Maybe a long movie can wrap things up
I really, REALLY wanted this show to work. I loved season one and two, then three really started lifting off the rails. What a shame. Thanks for the video!
3 was awful and last most fans
For sure... the question of morality - old war movies etc are fine, told by the victor... but when you want to question the future.... cya!
According to viewership numbers on Wikipedia people dont like it...
Dr. Ford was the best thing about Westworld, without Hopkins you don't have a show worth watching. MIB alone can only do so much.
"They always seemed to deliver solid hits, and actually finished what they started"
Ummmmm.....Game of Thrones anyone?
times change
Anything attached to JJ Abrams nowadays has a high probability of getting cancelled
Every season had a signature episode
Season 1: Finale 9/10.
Westworld had 1 outstanding Season and drastically declined from there. They should have stayed within their theme instead of changing it each Season.
season one was spectacular. they were chasing the dragon after that.
Thanks fuckface. Haven’t finished yet.
@@TheBlayner I leave you to see the end of Westworld. HBO cancels all SF series like Raided by Wolves what a shame 😡❗❗❗
The first season was the best. It was actually set in Westworld, and Anthony Hopkins was the key to the show IMHO. I loved his character and the story around him. How everyone treated his character like too old, too out-of-touch relic when in the show his character was playing them and was actually the smartest person in the room.
To be honest, from the way the 4th series ended I thought it had finished anyway
I think Peripheral is going so well that they dropped the Westworld play ball for the new shiny Peripheral play ball.
I will miss the show but the ending of season 4 does close the storyline for me.
The show used a lot of
Old filming techniques, not a lot of cgi!
Same here .. season 2 was complete crap
I tried watching s3, hoping for a turn for the better after a underwhelming s2. I lasted 2 episodes.
Im still in schock, Im so sad and upset cause Westworld was my favorite show. 😭
Mercy killing at this point.
They did not put it on free to air TV, I think that this also contributed to the shows decline
I really was looking forward to have the story completed in the 5th season. Loved the show with every season it got so far
I know right? I’m so disappointed!
2 is decent and worth a watch but stop after that
Season 2 episode 8 is a masterpiece.
Simple, the show didn't need to exist after Season 1 and the following became a convoluted mess that was done at the service of the showrunners' ego.
Seriously, just one more episode in season 4 could have wrapped things up just fine. I am very disappointed that there will be no proper finale.
My favourite shows Humans, Raised by wolves, Dark crystal and now this 😭😭😭
The fourth season jumped the shark.
I also love Westworld, best sci fi hands down, and kinda see Peripheral as the new reincarnation of Westworld in terms of AI, power and humanity
Westworld got off the hinges after season 2.. it became a cluster fuxk of confusion
season 1 and part of season 2 just some of the best tv made always wanting to see the next cliffhanger
Brilliant two seasons but then they ran outta stories.
HBO also did this to Rome and Deadwood.
I kind of assumed it was already canceled... i know technically it left off for a bit more, but felt basically wrapped up to me. Would I have watched a season 5? Yes, but definitely felt finished.
Once they left “the park” - the show/series effectively ended itself…
After Season 2, we got a short 3rd season telling a story that needed a longer season to flesh it out and the plot wasnt great compared to the past 2 season, and then the 4th season delivered basically a lightning fast story that destroys the 3rd seasons foundations for a bad plot
I rise
Hbo: The shows cancelled!
Me: It doesn't look like anything to me.
It's even simpler than that. There was no story in 3 and 4 was refried beans.
@@jonfreeman9682 Show some respect for refried beans.
It made sense that Delores turned evil before becoming a “god.” It was Ford that said in season 1 that you can’t play God without being acquainted with the devil…. In order for Delores to realize her true path she had to experience the opposite of creation which is destruction.
@@Bruce_Davis And where did you pull that from, or do you live near a dispensary?
@@stevenkarmazenuk2540 I live in the sublime
lets be honest, Anthony Hopkins and the DR Ford character carried the whole concept of the show. as soon as he went at the end of season one each season got progressively worse
Nop, He was the best character but the concept has carried but the other characters too, Maeve, William and Dolores.
Never went downfall (just s3) you just don't appreciate for what it is.
How can that be a surprise? No one was watching any more and it was very expensive Also Warner is in huge debt and must cut costs everywhere
And it had an actual ending, with S1. Everything that came after was a tired attempt to rehash S1's success.
Writer ran outta story ideas.
Most Sci-fi and speculative tv shows are extremely lucky to make it past 3 seasons...the few who did had good writing, good efx, and dedication to the storyline. Westworld started to dwindle when viewers had difficulty sussing out the simplest plot points.
Exactly. I love sci-fi shows and there's not many so I stuck with this. But 3 was really bad and pointless and 4 was better but fell flat.
I'd love them to give us a script since the writers did get paid for season 5. Maybe a short story or a comic. Give us sometime! I already don't trust Netflix since they do this to me all the time.
Couldn’t watch after S3. It’s gonna go down in HBO history like a True Detective
Will never forget it
season 2 - horrible. Wish I could forget it
season 3 - half way decent but more confusing and convoluted than necessary
season 4 - Was back on track to being good/great but still needed some help but was worth watching
season 5 - I was looking forward to it and was down to give it a chance. sucks they ended it.
IDK, Season 2 was the aftermath of the end of Season 1.
Season 2 & 3 were a bit "plodding" at times, though I do agree, Season 4 was better.
Because that’s as far as our humanity go and they can’t tell to much to humanity some of us will figure it out but this is what’s real in the world
well, firefly comes to mind...along with several anime.
But thinking about tv/streaming:
Better Call Saul, Westworld, The Expanse and likely The Orville are all done.
To be honest I stopped watching a few episodes into season two, it was just awful as well as preachy and didn't know it was still going.
Me too.
Same here
this was my favorite show out currently
Same with me. Season one was great then I hated it after that
Same here
I thought I was all caught up, but apparently I am not.
Bro sammme. Honestly loved WW, feels like all the most unique Netflix and HBO shows get canceled too early.
Honestly. I think Lisa and hubby said all they wanted to say, and did it brilliantly.
ALONE.
Westworld season 1 is a masterpiece it's up there with true Detective season 1 but the fall off after is kinda amazing
Season 3 was the worst season in my opinion but season 4 did get a lot better. I'm surprised with all the awards and attention this show got they won't give them at least six episode final season to wrap things up.
3 was awful even with fast fwd I could barely get thru it and 4 started off alot better then fell flat at the end and honestly the story nicely ends.
When Ed Harris was questioned to maybe be a robot in the end of season 2, that’s when I lost interest.
Cuz they’re clearly just making shit up as they go like Lost or something.
I actually thought it was the series finale after watching the last episode of season 4. didn't know there was going to be a 5th season. they made the right decision. the show had a reasonable ending and didn't need to wrap anything up
It ended in 4 so doesn't need another season.
It was the season finale. Did you mean series finale?
@@frisky_dart7273 ah...yes...thanks. corrected
I agree.
