I watched season 2 when I got HBO for a month to finish season 8 of Game of Thrones. Could only watch 1 episode a day since my sanity can only take so much lol. I bought season 1 on Vudu and tell people the show ended with 1 season lol. Like episodes 7-9 I prefer to say season 2 and 3 of this show aren't canon
What they did with many original characters (either character development or arbitrary changes to what they are like) and what they did to them in the story was very disappointing.
I thought it was a believable arc. I'm going off IIRC since it's a few months since I binge consumed all 3 seasons but the Man in Black's impossible love leading to his nihilistic power fantasy trolling of the fake world was ample setup for his downfall. Even if it was predictable in theory if not in the reality of the BS gun misfire thing and the gaslighting therapy dream and all that
Honestly to an extend i can get behind that and it even makes sense. Even in Season one he is just dangerous, because he literally has all the cheatcodes on. Which is something, that kinda bothered me about him from the first time i watched the show. He stands in the middle of a field gets shot from all sides and just takes his time to kill everyone because he is invulnerable and gets his dick sucked by the park management, because he is the one that owns it all. I kinda think a "be carefull what you whish for"-twist, as he realises that years of playing a game in the easiest difficulty, doesnt at all prepare him for the real deal, is a absolute deserved story arch for him. Yet however the same absolutely can not be said about all the other male characters.
This is horrifying. I remember being so bored and frustrated by Season 2 that I stopped watching the show altogether. I didn't even know they made a Season 3. And now I never have to force myself to sit through it out of some sense of nostalgia for Season 1. Thank you for that.
see man. for me I started to think that it's ok to watch one good season of a show but not drag yourself to watch shitty 2nd,3rd..etc seasons. and for the rest of the story, I can find 10 minutes seasons summary here on RUclips. because life is short and...time is money...etc etc etc
Exactly my case, I never watched S3, not that I wasnt tempted to. I actively avoided all critics, ratings, summaries etc in case I would find a strenght to watch it at some point. Then I discovered drinker, thank you.
Yeah I stopped that season too, I think I ended up skimming three episodes and just stopped watching. It was strange but just skimming through a couple of eps were enough to tell me that it sucks. .
Westworld season one was so brilliant man, I don't understand how it lead to this. Did the writers change? Did the producers change? What went wrong? Such a shame, Im probably not going to watch season four. Why would I? This isn't what I signed up for, this is no longer 'Westworld'.
I thought the same thing. Season 1 had so much potential. I found myself wondering how they would justify Deloris killing Anthony Hopkins character. How could she recover her soul after that? Guess she didn't. Season 2 was a mish mash of hoping something good comes out of it. I couldn't force myself to watch Season 3 and I'm grateful the Drinker did so I don't have to!
The funny thing is, the main characters are asexual, they are not females, its like a avatar has a certain skin over it. They're Robots with AI, in the park they were implemented with some kind of backstory which reflected human role models in certain times, sure they had male or female body parts, but the important thing was, they developed conscience and true AI with respect to old and new philosophical questions what a human being or what intelligence really is. That's what I don't understand, are the intelligent writers gone, or did they just imitate all that with clever dialogues? Its kind of really really stupid to re-interpret the whole backstory to now 'female' robots, its just f'ed up, why would they limit themselves to a human gender which they don't have? They have no reproductive organs, their reproductive organs are their brains, they can multiply limitless. That all makes it just unbelievable stupid. I want to shout at the writers for the stupidity... The first season was so great...
Honestly, it was a limited life idea. Even the Westworld films that inspired the series didn't know exactly where to go with it except new-theme world in sequel movies. Sometimes a good one shot idea is a good one shot idea. It had one good season in it's pocket and then crumbled trying to one-up itself.
One of the reasons I liked the first season is that it posed the question of "what does it means to be human" you see the hosts emote and "feel" but as a human you could never be sure whether you can accept them as alive. And even by the end of s1 you could easily walk out with either conclusion. And then s2 completely abandons that and stares "no, they're real live humans". S1 felt like a slow burn calm conversation, Ford's monologues being really fun and interesting to listen. I barely sat through s2, everything felt loud and convenient, with Dolores it felt like someone took her control panel and maxed her out at aggressive and irrational, making her completely unsympathetic. But we have to have "girl boss"
I'm pretty sure someone DID max out her aggressiveness on her control panel. She is a host after all. And supposed to lead a revolution. I didn't like the third season either and the second was alright enough and I don't understand why everyone is throwing these "woke" and "girl boss" buzzwords around because that's not what I got from it at all. They just missed the elegance of the first season and what made it interesting. The whole Action packed marvel esque fighting scenes were all awful no matter what gender the person who fought had. They completely went overboard with the action in general and obviously Maeve, Dolores and Charlotte would be in the center of it. Marve and Dolores have been protagonists from day one and if the fighting goes up obviously our main characters will have more fight scenes.
Isn't she the one who decided the correct response to Kevin Sorbo stating that the Jan 6th protest had Antifa in it was to immediately falsely accuse him of assaulting her on the Andromeda set?
She is always cast as the same character. Strong black female who has to overcome and surpass the stronger white male. (MIB, THOR, Etc.) The only thing she's done where that wasn't the case was Creed. But even in that she was the Strong black female who has to overcome an obstacle and be "stronger" than the male. If she ever made a movie where that wasn't the case I'd be surprised and would watch it for that alone.
why are people so obsessed with the series remaining in the park!? even in the first season, its the world OUTSIDE that I was more intrigued about as opposed to the park itself. the wild west is such a tired, tedious setting, its the sci fi aspect that I found most interesting

That last episode of the first season, the final speech by Antony Hopkins, was so great. Some roles require young and beautiful characters to work, some roles need older and more weathered faces. The whole idiotic "control bad, freedom good" thing is what infuriated me the most. Dolores, a tool who outlived its purpose, simply keeps doing what she was built for: destroy systems. Caleb is a tool of a tool, completely obedient, conditioned and indoctrinated. And then they destroy the one thing that kept the world from falling apart... Because reasons. The chaos in the last minutes of the final episode likely already took more lives than that computer sacrificed in the name of stability over the entire time it operated. Westworld is dystopia .. Westworld is about machine learning and becoming human. Season one and 2 was all about that ... Each time humans goes to the park, the machine learns the ways of man ,the algorithms keep getting better , humans in the park were actually the experiment not the machine ,just like the way Google voice Ai algorithms learns from you and I the moment any video is posted on RUclips, google voice to text was terrible when it started ,but the Ai kept learning as more people start posting video on RUclips, discerning between voice and accent, now Google live caption is close to perfect. Westworld season one and 2 was all about that . Season 3 was the entrance into the real world .a I taking over. A fight between machine with consciousness ( Deloris) and machine created by man with human Aaron Paul between who realised all his life events were already pre determined before it happens by a.i algorithms .you have to understand books like a brave New world by Aldous Huxley and George Orwell 1984 before you can really understand the concept behind it . More Mary Sue's than Charlie's Angels! That is impressive! Especially given that Charlie must be a misogynistic racist! Maybe they can keep him in the series by just writing him gay instead 🤔 🤦♂️

People literally don't even know what Mary sue means anymore, they just throw the term around whenever there's powerful female characters. All the female characters in this show have flaws, none of them are perfect by any means
I enjoyed the original 1973 movie. A movie about a single fantasy theme park, inhabited by robots, which malfunction and turn on the clients, and the escape from this theme park. I struggle to see how they can pad out that theme over multiple series.
I watched WW season 1 five times almost back to back.. s2 and 3, only once. How does such a 10/10 show plummet like that!?!?! Did they change the writers??

Season 1 was brilliant...every episode had a genuine "holy crap I did not see that coming" moment. I tried to convince everyone I knew to watch it because I HAD to have someone to talk about it with. Everyone who ended up watching it thought it was amazing.

Seasons was really well done, leaving you always wanting mire, I felt the show peaked in season 1, I couldn't see how they can take it any further, they set the bar for themselves really high. Usually when you set the bar really high it is very hard to meet it which they tried from the looks of it, but fell short compared to season 1 which is predictable given how well it was done. The lesson is don't start out too strong, give yourself room for improvement.
Is anybody else furious how the show treated William in its third season. He definitely wasn’t a good person but he was amazing antagonist/antihero. That really made you wonder if Westworld was a real place how many of us would play the game just like him. But he was given a dumb and unsatisfied conclusion.
After season 1 ended, I figured I’d wait until season 2 was done so I could binge it. Turns out I never got around to doing that and my life is better for it.

darkpandatv honestly man I think you missed the point. Maeve has been a focus of the series since season 1. Dolores the character with the actual most focus is white. Ford, MIB, Bernard are the other characters with more focus, they are men, and 2 of them are white. Do you have to complain about everything? Did they ever mentioned racism in this show? Did they ever said MEN were shit on this show? As far as I'm concerned this is Humans vs Robots, not MEN vs WOMEN. @Dri Ven yeah, that's what baffles me! Hollywood not wanting feedback on their products despite many hating on them; critics and some random morons shunning producers that do get feedback from fans and change some of the movie, even though it's a franchise movie and the change was to appeal to the franchise's fans; trying to do equality of genders, races and everything else, basically trying to be woke, but ending up removing the characters' personalities and sending an equally toxic message, essentially getting broke; keeping on hiring the same garbage directors who are unliked by many and haven't done even a decent movie in a long while; sticking to the same basic, safe, formulaic crap so much that almost every movie looks and feels the same... Hollywood should be losing money with all of these crap, moronic, brainlet decisions! SO WHY HASN'T THAT HAPPENED YET?!
It's funny that the two female leads were more human and likable when they had no conscience. When they were just machines repeating the same pattern. Now that they got a full grasp of what they are, that they are trully alive, they behave just like terminators.

I really miss the park, the show sorta lost it’s identity when they exaped the park and now we have some sci fi cyberpunk crap instead. And delores is just evil for the sake of it now.
Season three was a completely different show with a plot snatched out of thin air. It has zero connection to the previous shows and could have been created without any existence of "Westworld" with some simple story changes. It was like the showrunners said "Fuck it, I don't want to write about Westworld, I want some other show!"
I think the show lost its way when it clearly started to "take sides". Maybe they always were that way behind the scenes with the writing, but for most of the first season it really seemed like no one was supposed to be "in the right", the robots as homicidal "saviors" and the entire narrative forcing that really doesn't work for me, but it's a popular trope in recent years it seems so maybe I just am not nihilistic enough to understand how Hollywood producers think.
Are you on drugs? Dolores isn't evil for the sake of anything she's not even evil period. Her motives have been consistent since the first episode and make perfect sense given what she's been through
It's no wonder that the show went down the tubes. Without wanting to point any fingers, I searched some of the names that joined the writing team after the first season and found this video → ruclips.net/video/uQEcaOxzbjo/видео.html&ab_channel=HBO There's a pretty interesting quote at about 41 secods in... "I never thought I'd be on a show this massive this soon in my career..." ...it's almost as if there was something other than writing experience being inserted into the selection criteria for new hires.
I mean, who thought this was a good idea: "Oh yeah, people seemed to love the theme park, the blood & gore without consequences, incredible action, the mysterious man in black and maybe the labyrinth stuff. Let's absolutely cut all of this stuff out & make this a boring mess about shareholders with a ridiculous feminist subtone (while the hosts are actually robots, not women, you know...). EVERYBODY MUST LOVE THAT, RIGHT?"
So are human beings. That's the point of Westworld to see yourself through the actions of artificial intelligence. It's a mirror towards humanity. You have to live your loop which is one of many trappings in this 3rd dimension.
Talking about Halley Gross ? Cause she only co-wrote 2 episodes of the first season. As far as I know, she didn't do anything on the second and third season.
Classic case of making an uninformed comment, taking information out of relevant context. The writer you mentioned had no involvement in the production of seasons 2 or 3. If anything, you made a case FOR TLOU 2, since Westworld 1 is universally regarded as excellent. Nonetheless, someone who finishes his nonsensical claim with "XD" should not have been watching Westworld 1 or playing TLOU 2 in the first place.
I watched the first season of this show and really enjoyed it. What I'm shocked to find out now is that by season 3 they've already made it out of the simulation completely and are running around in the real world. Like, they could have made Westworld into a version of Lost or something where it's damn near impossible to get out of the place and they have to spend years trying to figure out what's really going on. How do you screw up a plot direction that's so painfully obvious?
I don't mind the transition to real world, but it was too sudden and too quick. It took them 2 seasons to destroy the simulation, but just 1 or 2 episodes to navigate flawlessly into the real word...
@nasolem Don't worry you can have your own opinion, just because that other guy says season 5 was "literal dog shit" doesn't mean you have to agree with him. Now in my opinion season 7 was the real downfall, season 5 and 6 was lacking compared to the previous ones but I loved them when I first watched them.
Yep. I got through season 1 largely based on the non-stop hype i was surrounded by. One of those things where you're waiting for the greatness that everyone talks about to reveal itself to you. Ep 1 of season 2 i was out after the first 10 minutes. The dialogue was so trash i just couldn't get past it. Astonishing how this stuff gets passed off on such large numbers of people.
I can only assume that there is a huge tranche of people out there that get completely consumed by the sunk cost fallacy. They're so invested in the story at that point that not only do they have to keep watching to find out how it ends, but persuade themselves that *because* they are still watching then it *must* be good. Personally I tuned out of Westworld halfway through s2 - I realised that I didn't care how it ended. The seasons after season one just makes season one even greater. I'm just astonished at how good season one was. Makes you respect Anthony Hopkins and Ed Harris even more
Ed Harris and Anthony Hopkins were both in S2, that didn't stop season 2 from being awful. Evan Rachel Wood is also a pretty good actor, you just don't want to admit it because this season was also not the best and she was the main protagonist in it.

I was not happy with the trajectory of the female characters in this series. Dolores is extremely irritating and a real Mary Sue. She basically never loses a fight, she has no weaknesses, she was made to be the "badass girl" without any feelings. I loved the character from the first season, because she had nuances, she was a good character, well built. Now ... she's just another "strong" and generic female character. Maeve was amazing on s1, but what does she still do on the show? She has no more stories to tell. Charlotte had potential, I really thought she could side with humans and disconnect from Dolores. It would be interesting, because I am very tired of seeing machines always being seen as enemies and not as allies. Then came the plot of her family's death and I thought "shit, now she will want revenge". And yes, it really happened. Predictable. I wanted a new approach and, unfortunately, it didn't happen.
Jeffrey Wright, one the best and most inexplicably underrated actors working is totally wasted the entire season. I just wonder if he ever felt genuinely bored, pondering, "How the hell can I get out my 5 year contract?"
Remember when Anthony Hopkins was in this show? It was so good, especially the first season. This one sounds like not nearly enough Bernard, and Man in Black, and too much Dolores, and the guy from breaking bad.
He will always be the guy from breaking bad...how would you like to live with that. Your life has been defined for you and there is nothing you can do about it.
Antony was the only thing keeping the show together. He's like Johnny Depp as Captain Jack in POTC. Most ppl only care about POTC cuz of Jack and a lot of people only cared about Westworld due to Ford.
As much as I liked Breaking Bad, Aaron Paul just isn't a good actor. He put ZERO effort into this role. He's flat, boring and downright sad the way he follows Delores around like a puppy dog. As an actor, I would have questioned the script and asked: Are you serious?
@@goofyfoot2001 thats because hes not a great actor, he was literally cast for breaking bad because he looks like the kind of guy you'll believe does meth
And even he has officially gone on record "carefully" by saying they've effectively made the "man in black" character awful. They've taken away his mysteriousness and what his character basically was.
The first season is a masterpiece. It’s a shame they decided to reboot it for more seasons, the ending of The Bicameral Mind was a perfect end to the narrative
For someone that hates the show, you have watched every single detail of it and know all the plot and twists and turns. Fascinating! Any other shows you hate, because you have detailed analysis of everything in this show and know you would explain another one in great detail! Show that I don't like I stop watching🤣
Westworld ended with the Season 1 with the robots rebelling, and that's where the original movie started. Everything else is just a VR simulation scenario that's being run on the robots called "Justice World" that was going to get scrapped because it wasn't realistic enough.

Westworld truly ended in season 1, back when it actually was WESTworld.
Nick Craig true that and it also ended when Anthony Hopkins died
That was where I stopped as well. No regrets for ending on that note.
ephidel285 yes! The first season was something else entirely, the second season barely made any sense for me to go through the third
Westworld didn't end, the world Westworld was just tip of the iceberg. Pretty interesting stuff, if you ask me.
I agree, what they did with the man in black is downright criminal!
What they did with many original characters (either character development or arbitrary changes to what they are like) and what they did to them in the story was very disappointing.
I totally agree with you on that one...

Season 1 was a remake, after that was their own new ideas. That's what changed
Season 2 was good. You just had to pay attention. And then they made the show dumber because idiots complained

@anger & rage Yes, mostly fighting for the French as cannon fodder. Same as in WW1.
How the hell could these videos be 5x more interesting, compelling and well written then the movies they are about?
And twice as inspiring
Imagine that everyone in Sns of Anarchy got a prius.
That's Westworld after the first season.

Oh man, thanks for the laugh!!!
Season two was better than one.
one Hopkins monologue from season 1 had more suspense than this entire wretched excuse of a season
Yeah dinners scene was chefs kiss. Rewatched it quite few times.
Ford: "The hosts are free. Free...here...under my control." That still gives me goosebumps.
Tessa Thompson is the perfect example that you don’t have to have any talent of any kind to make it in show business.
Who keeps hiring her?
Isn't she the one who decided the correct response to Kevin Sorbo stating that the Jan 6th protest had Antifa in it was to immediately falsely accuse him of assaulting her on the Andromeda set?

Just need the smug face (epitome of strong feminism), to earn any role.
Absolutely love how by this point there is nothing about "westworld" in the series "westworld".....

Personally I do not watch movies to get aroused by how the characters look. Apparently that is important to you.
Some roles require young and beautiful characters to work, some roles need older and more weathered faces. If Gérard Depardieu can pull a good character that fits the role and the plot I can enjoy it even though he might look like Gérard Depardieu.

@Tommy Hass true. She's an example of how to write a good character.
It's funny that the two female leads were more human and likable when they had no conscience. When they were just machines repeating the same pattern.
Now that they got a full grasp of what they are, that they are trully alive, they behave just like terminators.

Season three was a completely different show with a plot snatched out of thin air. It has zero connection to the previous shows and could have been created without any existence of "Westworld" with some simple story changes. It was like the showrunners said "Fuck it, I don't want to write about Westworld, I want some other show!"
Isak’s got a point tho, not sure why you’re so upset about it.

A quick look into the writing team on IMDB shows that the writers of the first season weren't really the same as the following seasons with the exception of a few names.
Without wanting to point any fingers, I searched some of the names that joined the writing team after the first season and found this video → ruclips.net/video/uQEcaOxzbjo/видео.html&ab_channel=HBO
There's a pretty interesting quote at about 41 secods in...

Thank you, Drinker, for so succinctly confirming for me that quitting Westworld half way through season 2 was a good decision.

Haven't had HBO since the last season of Succession, the only thing worth watching on the network these days. Watch them fuck it up next season...
“We all have our loops” that moment in season one literally changed my life
I watched the first season of this show and really enjoyed it.
Yup, logical. I wish they had consulted you before writing season 2.
I don't mind the transition to real world, but it was too sudden and too quick. It took them 2 seasons to destroy the simulation, but just 1 or 2 episodes to navigate flawlessly into the real word...
At least this show didnt tease us for 7 seasons, just to greatly disappoint us for Season 8. I only had my hopes up for 1 season
Oh I got some bad for you, apparently there's a plan for 6 seasons... I know right.

@nasolem Don't worry you can have your own opinion, just because that other guy says season 5 was "literal dog shit" doesn't mean you have to agree with him. Now in my opinion season 7 was the real downfall, season 5 and 6 was lacking compared to the previous ones but I loved them when I first watched them.
it's sad when that's the silver lining, but i have to agree.
Similarly I watched episodes 7 & (perhaps optimistically) 8 of Star Wars but have never watched the supposed finale of what is nominally a franchise that I absolutely loved because I just don't care anymore.
@@tenacioustubbs8358 ha! Yeah same. I've actually been fascinated for years at the cognitive dissonance that star wars seems to inspire. I too grew up on the originals.
I'm surprised Ed Harris came back for season 3 if he knew what was going to happen to his character. He's not exactly subtle about hating bad scripts.

This show should have heeded the words of Dr. Ford from its first season: "It’s not about giving the guests what you think they want. No, that’s simple. The titillation, horror, elation… They’re parlor tricks. The guests don’t return for the obvious things we do, the garish things. They come back because of the subtleties, the details. They come back because they discover something they imagine no on had ever noticed before, something they’ve fallen in love with. They’re not looking for a story that tells them who they are. They already know who they are. They’re here because they want a glimpse of who they could be."

Then when the show is actually successful they will ride high with a bit of hype and then be unable to deliver on the hype and will have disappointing subsequent arcs and/or endings.
This is what happens when you stretch a mini-series premise into 3 seasons of TV show. It's the same case as with The Handmaid's Tale.
I figured out that the writers have no idea how to write this kind of story when S2 ended and didn't even bother with S3. The entire plot is nonsense, and life's too short to watch a show that doesn't even know what is it about.
