After listening to this album 20+ times it's confirmed it's just not hitting for me. One or Two tracks grew on me but for the most part it's just missing that "it factor" that all other Drake albums had. Remember it's just my opinion so if you like the album then I'm happy you do ^_^

the issue with this album is he teased it for 3 years and it sounds like it was made in 3 weeks
THATS WAT IM FUCKIN SAYIN
This is the Point
Yeah, the final product we got last week doesn’t feel like it was the same album he was working on last winter/summer.
The lyrics of songs are subjective so that’s cool but that album was produced so well.
@@CHarr1991 it wasn’t. i still say that the majority of DLDT was supposed to be on CLB but they scrapped that once everything started getting leaked. Love All, TSU, and Race my Mind all leaked last year. Drake even said only ONE of the songs from the leaks were actually on CLB. Lo and behold we got a half assed album with 3 (fan favorite) leaks on it. something doesn’t add up.
Ok really liking this rating style you did, you pass/fail each track then divide pass by total:
So 10/21 would equal a 47.6% or. 4.8 or 5 if we round up. So Drake got a 5. I feel that’s accurate.
😳

All music, movies, art etc is subjective. Not everyone is going to like the same things we all like..it doesn’t take away from your enjoyment if someone else isn’t feeling something. Always gonna appreciate the commitment, Dev. Congrats on the twitch endorsement !
^factual! Bc I think the album has the IT, but I could see why people think it doesn’t! Drake has so many different sides that people love and if that drake doesn’t show up then ur not really gonna like the album .For instance, if 5am in Toronto drake shows up on every song, some folks won’t listen to that. They prefer singing drake or hitmaker drake.
@@Colormomey556 that’s a quality point. Some fans want a full album of champagne poetry/the remorse style rapping. And like you said, others prefer the R&B crooner/hitmaker aesthetic. I think it’s one of those things were it’s a gift and curse to have so many fans or audiences to cater to
He definitely over marketed it, as a Drake fan since truly day uno this is the most anticipated album he’s put out that I’ve been waiting for and it wasn’t as good as I had rlly hoped. Dark lane demo tapes hit WAY more than this did and he tapped into different shit that I hadn’t heard before with the last two tracks on that EP. I hope his next album he mentions nothing about it and just drops it kuz the way this was marketed just…yeah lol Nothing Was The Same is still his greatest album in my opinion. But nothing rlly was the same after that😭😂
there wasnt too much marketing, it was just the media would take one damn thing drake would say, do or post and make a whole story out of it. but if you expect drake to be like kanye and just not say anything or do anything and then announce something, he isn't gonna do that. was really hoping for more rap but we just got r&b which was alright, nothing to write home about
Yup! Agreed nothing was the same and take care is still his best projects to date.
It’s crazy cause initial listen for me on CLB, I really bumped it hard especially that it gave me NWTS vibes on a production/somewhat flow level but after listening more & more… it’s basically drake’s “famous hits” because it sounds exactly what he’s already done before word for word. Like reddit memes said, it went from “Nothing Was The Same” to “Everything Was The Same” lmao.
Yep tbh it's just not up to par on Drake standards which it why its kinda disappointing but still I'm not here to call it trash because it still washes these other modern day weak ass albums
Way better then scorpion. This album has the classic drake songs youll go back to in 2 years. Not his best but im putting it before more life, dark lane demo, and scorpion
Can't believe we are witnessing the lack production from Drake, this mans needs inspiration and actual passion in his music.

As much as I love the reaction streams, sometimes I miss the video reactions. Chat stays spoiling stuff and has a herd mentality always calling something a W or L. I guess you could say this is a much better way of making money he can profit of the twitch stream while simultaneously making more money by uploading a video on RUclips but I can see where you’re coming
Yep twitch is pretty aids to watch first time music reactions. Chat is a bunch of group thinkers that can't think for themselves. Good example of this is Anthony fantanos chat when he listens to the album for the first time. People can't think for themselves anymore with music it seems.

I feel like this album suffers from OVER marketing. Back in January, he released a trailer that showcased recreations of all of his previous albums. In interviews, he directly compared this album to one of his iconic albums, thus elevating fans expectations and excitement. Since its coming off the heels of its release and because of their beef, CLB will undoubtedly be compared to DONDA. And while I love some songs off this album (TSU, Fair Trade, No Friends in the Industry, Champagne Poetry, 7am in Bridle, N 2 Deep, Yebba Heartbreak, Get Along Better) none really hit the highs of songs like Come to Life, No Child Left Behind, Hurricane, Moon, 24, or even Off the Grid. This is a Drake album and that is a compliment and a criticism for me. For some reason, he refuses to leave his comfort zone. He will never make a "bad" album but the level of risk that he takes is not substantial in evolving his sound.
Adding onto my initial comparison and contrast from the previous paragraph, one of the things I noticed while digesting this album is that although the artistic direction intended in both Donda and CLB were two dimensional, Kanye did a great job of making every song sound relatively different while still bringing you back to that same direction or central theme whereas with CLB it's so all-over the place and sporadic that I often forgot what the central theme of the album was. In regards to features, Kanye was able to place and let the features shine without letting them carry; there were quite a number of tracks in which the features outshined/carried Drake to the finish line; that can be seen as a negative critique.
In the end, I postulate that Drake could have made this an EP instead of an LP and kept 6/7 of the strongest songs on it and binned the rest. After the reception of the EP, he could have followed up with a more cohesive album. CLB had no real concept here for a 21-song album. For an album called "Certified Lover Boy", this album could have been a strong R&B album that could have evolved the genre of R&B. My thoughts after a few full listens from start to finish, im giving CLB a 6 to 6.5/10 (for comparison I gave DONDA a 9/10 or 8.5/10 as a low-ball)
P.S- I enjoyed scorpion more than CLB from initial release and off reruns so maybe im just wack. ✍️
6 is very generous. It's easily his worst album second to only scorpion, its definitely a 3/10
@@Uzy_71 After many listens, I agree with you on that
7am on bridle path makes people think the album is amazing
Knife talk, TSU and Poetry got people think this is a great poject when it just ok really... some crazy folk are saying too sexy too lmao but too sexy only become nice when you watch and listen to the music video, without the music video its straight dodo hot fire, great beat, terrible hook and lack laster bars

Also a big drake guy and it’s good to see this from someone else who’s a big drake guy. i personally loved it, and like you said there is no right or wrong. loved the reaction either way g.
The criticisms I see about CLB probably stem from the fact that it was released around DONDA, which is a very creative and imaginative project.
The problem is that Drake isnt doing anything special with this album.
With kanye, he reinvents his sound every new album, but we’ve had the same drake for years now.
This album isnt bad by any means, its just the same old Drake. It sounds good, and there are definitely some songs worth saving to a playlist but creatively its a bit boring.
28:30 killed me😂 Dev you good my g😂
Lmaooooo that’s me when my alarm rings for work.
Brutally honest it's a 2/10 for me, nothing that I liked😂. Laugh Now Cry Later was better than any song on this trash. First time I didn't even like a song on a Drake album. Really bad for his standards, don't lie to yourself people.
Production for me was great
when people say production wasnt great they mean it wasnt inspired the beat switch ups, the background beats, beat to lyrical exchange, melody and rap flow... Famy ties by Kendrick shows a great example of all that, even when Kendick rapped off beat it still sounded great to the lister cause each side carried their side... Drakes bars were their but the beats didnt make them come alive, they felt dead for a Drake release, laugh now Cry later is a great example of when the beat makes Drakes sound and raps come alive, i can loop that track easy this other ones i feel like im going through a 9-5
At the end of the day we can all respect Dev’s opinion. 🤝
That Sha’Carri line was before she got smoked🤣
I think a drake x alchemist album would be amazing
I understand why people are disappointed and I’m probably bias but I thought the album was pretty good, some songs go hard and others will definitely grow on me. Obviously not his best work and it was overhyped but it’s not bad at all
Its not even about it being bad, its the fact he’s put out the same music over & over again

Toronto kid, can confirm Bridle Path is where Drake + a lot of Toronto born celebs live so you knew its 🔥💯 PS I agree with your production comment for sure. This album is MID. Drake's biggest problem is that he don't branch out, both lyrically & sonically, plus he uses the same features all the time. He's too predictable. Yeah production was majorly lackn as Drake had major bars on a bunch of tracks that was done no favors by production as well as ideas that just didnt hit & werent it which is frustrating as this really needed to hit from his perspective given everything that’s surrounded him lately. I think Drake needs to expand his production team & bring some fresh creativity. While i dont think 40& drake hit a ceiling but theres just no more land to traverse as team they have achieved all to be achieved. Lets get something new shuffle things around
