    I was so incredibly happy to see this video because just over a month ago I actually picked up a Panasonic S5 and a vintage Canon FL 50 1.2... your work with these is just stunning and very creative.. I feel totally validated ,,,,thanks!!

    Great posting, so glad to see you using the old classic lenses. They have such character and can tell a different story altogether. Been in photo for 40 years, shoot only 4/3 now with old lenses. I wish I had your eye.....you get the shots! Regards, Jimp

      Hey Jim, thanks so much for watching and all your kind words. :) I adore my M4/3 cameras with vintage lenses too. I love the S5 (of course it's just amazing) but it's just not as fun and flexible as my beloved m4/3. I especially love vintage glass on M4/3 with the crop factor. And yes, you are right, you simply cannot beat the character and charm of older lenses. Thanks again for watching, and happy shooting.

    Your photos are amazing, especially like the ones of the roller skates, such rich warm colors. I have this lense as well and love using it on my sony alpha series cameras.

      Hey thanks so much for watching! This lens is pretty cool, but in all honesty for me, I prefer my Minolta Rokkor-x f/1.4. It’s lighter, smaller, way cheaper, the mount is easier/smoother and it takes sharper pictures. If you can find one, scoop it up and give it a try!

    Very cool! Last time I was here, you were testing the S1 and I said that it was too heavy for my liking. Now you've got a S5, and I'm thinking about one, too. Subbed

      Hey, thanks so much for coming back, and the sub! The S1 is a beast of a camera, but yes, too heavy for me as well. But the S5 is just perfect for my needs, I absolutely love this camera. It's small and light enough that I even sometimes get it confused for my G85! If you haven't checked it out yet, here's a link to my unboxing video:

      Thanks again for watching and subscribing, and if you grab the S5, I'm sure you will love it.

      @@graphiknation Hey, I'm back again. How do you find manual focus on the S5's EVF? I assume the S1 is essier, but how much easier?

    • @graphiknation
      @graphiknation  3 года назад +1

      @@raksh9 Hey that's a tough question since I don't have the S1 any longer and I can't do a direct comparison. It's true the EVF is insanely bright and crisp on the S1, but I personally am not unhappy with the S5. It has the same EVF as my G85, so while it's not an upgrade for me, it's not a downgrade either. If you have been using the GH5 or G9, which both have a better EVF, it could be more of a disappointment. I use focus peaking in manual focus, which works very well in good lighting and high contrast scenarios but can be harder to see in low light/low contrast (that of course is pretty typical of any camera). I shoot a lot on the S5 using vintage and manual focus lenses and I have a pretty good hit rate with nailing focus. You can also use MF assist which zooms in to give you a closer look at the details, which helps too. Anyway, I hope this answers your question. I love both the S1 and S5 cameras, but they do have some distinct differences. I guess you would just have to weigh which features are most important to you, and go with the one that meets most of your needs. Thanks for watching and best of luck in making that hard choice. They are both superb cameras!

      @@graphiknation Thank you for the reply once again. I intend to use the S5 for manual focus lenses as well as native AF glass. I use the GX85, GH4 and G9, which means I'm kind of familiar with the EVF of the S5, but not the super huge one in the S1. I also have a 5D Mark II, which is fine for some situations but not for a general carry camera due to the weight.
      The main drawcards of the S5 for me are the very small size (like the GH4 and smaller than the G9) and the use of dual SD card slots as opposed to one very expensive XQD and one SD. Sure, I don't have to use the XQD slot but it's better to have a second card for situations where you don't have the time to change cards (I shoot events). And at a current sale price, the S5 brand new is only a couple hundred more than a stock secondhand S1, and the S5 already has all the high quality video codecs installed.
      To be honest, I can't wait to get either one of these, probably the S5, and put a Voigtlander 35mm f1.4 or a Pentax 50mm f1.4 on it. Really compact, vintage vibes and that full frame dynamic range. And the system can grow in usefulness as I get some native lenses and adapt existing ones. Thanks again for the input, I think I'm closer to making a decision now. Have a great week.

      @@raksh9 Hey, it sounds like you will be happy with the S5, if you set your expectations for the EVF to be more comparable to your GH4 (the G9 has a higher res). I was able to ask some LUMIX ambassadors about the lower res of the S5's EVF at a recent online event, and they said it was due to how small the S5 body is, and that anything larger (like the G9 EVF) would generate too much heat. So that is good behind-the-scenes tech to know, that they put a lot of thought into building this camera to make it as powerful and efficient as possible. The dual card slots and the video codecs sound like a perfect fit for you. You will just love your vintage glass on it too. :)

    Very nice video with great examples of what can be done with a nice lens like this one when one has talent like yours. Good job ! 👍🏼
    I'm considering switching to ML and I'm strongly looking at this S5. Do you have any video detailing how this camera deals with manual lenses ? I'm sure your feedback would be of great interest.

      Hey thanks so much for watching and for your kind words. I am so glad you enjoyed this video! While I don't have a video specifically featuring the S5 with manual lenses, however I DO have a very relevant video I made prior to the release of the S5 with the original S1. Here is s link to that video if you want to check it out ruclips.net/video/wsyfyukFCQ0/видео.html
      Basically the same mount and sensor, but I much prefer the S5 body over the S1 which is larger, heavier and I don’t like the tilting screen on the S1 (all personal preferences). I have a bunch of image examples in that video with a handful of manual lenses, which may be helpful for your research. I can tell you I love the S5, it’s an incredible camera and I would recommend it with high praise. Of course I would love to upgrade to the S5ii with the new PDAF, but it’s just not necessary for me, as the S5 is still such a fantastic quality camera and I shoot mainly with manual lenses anyway. I hope all this is helpful, and I hope you find the right fit for your shooting style. Thanks again for watching!
