This beautiful 1953 Metallic Blue Volkswagen Beetle Ragtop Bug crosses the 2024 Barrett Jackson Auction Block. I feel it went for OK money, should have went for more in my opinion as rare as a car that the 53 ragtop it.
This car is beautiful. A local friend of mine owned it, and another buddy of mine helped dial it in. Simply stunning. I agree, who ever got it, got a great deal. Killer color!!
@@westerlywinds5684 that's the nature of all collectibles..... The culture and social value becomes more then it's parts....... Technically it's stupid to pay 20 million for a Gulf Porsche 917k..... Most Barrett Jackson (BJ) attendees see a '53 Beetle only as another Beetle and you can hear the auctioneer only has a short time to present each car. Once he hit $50k, he was done and sold it. Most BJ cars are no reserve, so the seller is the one that has the most to lose on a rare VW. It's only going to get what it hits in 2 minutes.
@@westerlywinds5684 No the 65, 66 and 67 all had Goode steel sliders. There were a few odd 1200 models for those years in Europe that had ragtops, so it’s possible, but highly unlikely.
@@sunsetgarage755 This was in Europe. I’m talking about 1980 when something 10+ years old wasn’t cool, and would have been what we call a clunker today.
We bought a '53 in the '90s for $2000. Registered all it's life with original 'GDT' Victorian plates......0ne of 31 cars sent to Australia to commence sales in 1954. Regent Motors were the first official owners and they used it as their promotion VW.....we were the 4th owner, with the 3rd owner, a Rolls Royce Workshop owner in Brighton, holding it since the late '50s. A matching numbers original car with the patina of time.
I agree it should of went for more but too bad the economy is not as strong as 2011 when the infamous bus sold for nearly 200k. I do wish the cars at auction would be on slow rotating platform showing the bidders all angles, would make them probably like the cars more thus increasing bids all around.

Wow. Beautiful Bug. I agree with Chris. I thought it was going for more.
Wow! This should have gone for at least 75K. I bet there's over 80K in the restoration of this beautiful car.
Nothing like a early Beetle.
Damn i just got jealous. That was sweeeet
Thursday is not the best day to sell a car at BJ. It is the best day to buy one though.
Exactly
Dayum that's was a steal at 50k
You must be joking. I had three in my life, in two different continents, but never paid $3,500.- each for them. These prices today are insane!

I was expecting much higher. Almost makes me think I could get back in the game haha. Ok maybe not. I’ll keep dreaming ✌️

Should of got double ,owner probably lost money because of the cost to restore
He should’ve put a reserve on it.
We used to drive a 1968 ragtop in farm fields with the glass removed and had a hoot. Those days are a while ago now.
68 didn’t have a ragtop. Must have been an aftermarket hack.
@@sunsetgarage755 It could’ve been a 1966 model, but no older than 1965. I was still a young teenager back then.

Thanks for doing a follow up video!
Got another one tomorrow coming
My favorite oval ❤
Beautiful!

Oh yea that's a peach.
Who'd ever thought a beetle would be worth that much???
I would personally prefer a split but super nice.
I remember you could update your VW by having the rear window pillar removed for an oval one. It was supposed to make it look a younger model.
50k? That is a loss most likely. Try to find one and restore it to that condition even if you're doing all the labor. I was thinking 70-80 k.
Very nice
That a deal
I'm seeing 356 replicas going for 70k+ om bring a trailer. This should have gone higher!
Bring a trailer brings a more radical enthusiast...... This probably would have done better There.......
But does the heater work? Had a 1960 just like this one, loved it except I had to scrape ice on the INSIDE of the windshield while driving it.

Agree. But at least it does show the underside of the car as it rolls over the floor camera.
What would be the general expected differences between buying this car and buying a renovated beetle for $80k?
Any idea what he is saying ?
I think that might have been part of the problem. One could hardly make out the momentary high bids as the auctioneer was chanting.
I can’t understand auctioneers either, the bid is right above them I think. Don’t have to understand them lol
Undersold
A 23 window VW bus goes for a 100 grand now. Laugh at folks thinking a rare perfectly restored beetle is 10k.

I’d think it would have gone for more…acid dipped, full restore, 9 month only color, powder coated undercarriage…of course we’re not very objective. 😊
Ur Crazy its worth maybe $12grand
Is this 1994?
that paint job cost more than $12 grand ...
I didn't see vw in better condition underneath...
"The Peoples Car"?! Not at $50k Stupid $$$$. Ridiculous.
Where are you finding another '53? And a ragtop on top of that. Good luck.
