Phil X & The Drills "Give The Drummer Some" sample with Taylor Hawkins and Tommy Lee

- In July of 2014, Phil X and Daniel Spriewald embarked on an adventure of recording A LOT of drummers. 16 have been recorded to date. This is some of the footage shot during 2 of the drummers. Taylor Hawkins and Tommy Lee. Footage by Torre Catalano and crew and edited by Torre. This is a small part of a whole. Hopefully at some point the rest can get edited and either be a documentary or a series. A few different studios, several engineers... etc. In this sample we have Ross Hogarth engineering at Grand Master Studios (Taylor) and Smiley Sean engineering at Atrium Studios (Tommy).

that's not always what you need in the studio, but i'm feelin' it here. it's a jam, kinda off the cuff. the bashing really works for this.

I was reading through the comments while watching, seeing all the Tommy Lee stuff and still in awe of Hawkins and then...my friggin mind just got blown the fuck away by Tommy’s playing. That dude is legend. He was pissed at those drums in the best way. Both outstanding drummers. Cool vid.

That's the unprocessed drumming of Tommy Lee I've been missing. All those parts on early Crue records were so important and kickass. Taylor is just awesome as hell too. Both great hard hitting rock drummers.

Tommy lee looks amazing. . Besides his possessed, kick-ass playing, then sometimes relaxed - HE LOOKS A PICTURE OF CONTENTMENT AND HEALTHY. I was never a fan of Tommy Lee ( and the M Crue juggernaut ) ............. but I am now! He his blowin' the fish out of the water. Love this.

Tommy Lee's playing is completely different from 81-84! He is still great! I just like the old Tommy,just because it was simple and really heavy . Still a great drummer.Come on over,I have a drum set ready to go!

He's been on one constant evolution period. Very interesting, looking him compared to others, how they've all changed or stayed the same over the years. Folks like Lars, to this day, you know it's Lars. Tommy, a bit of an enigma.
@@shadcovert1160 Lars was great when he was younger ,but it is painful sometimes to watch or hear him ! that is just me. When I first started out,I was looking the next Tommy,I actually found people better drummers then both! So much talent that never see's the ight of day! Except one drummer that i auditioned ,he was incredible,but he was in a contract with a band ,and we had to wait but we did rehearse and man this gy was amazing. So as we waited for him to get out of this contract Well,as we played ,he got a call from the manger he had to get him going in other things like releasing him and setting him up with my band Fatal Attraction ,he got a call from Judas Priest and they would get him released if he was got the gig! We played through a few songs and he really wanted ti play heavy,well when he went to the audition ,and got it,because they wanted to go heavier ! SOOOO, that is my story of having great drummer ,but watching him go off to bigger and better things! Go Scott Travis!

why does Hawkins always look like he's in the middle of getting back surgery when he plays? always looks so tense and tightened up.

@@thestuffmikedoes2309 jesus what kind of idiot thinks what you just said makes any fucking sense? never seen musicians play?? the point, the OBVIOUS point, is that having seen SO MANY, the way Hawkins looks playing stands out. it's unusual. he looks pained. musicians, en masse, do not just 'look like that when they play'. and it has nothing to do with 'controlling our faces'. his entire body is tense and rigid. it's terrible technique.
