can safely say Phil has been the biggest influence on my playing the last decade. been watching and learning everything he puts up since i discovered him on the fretted americana videos. ive been playing 19 years now and most significant growth ive experienced as a player has been during this time watching phil. I count him in my top 10 guitar players list. Hes a BEAST and then some. Thank you Phil! Also learned so much about guitar gear too.

Great story, thanks. Great playing too. “Scream” is underrated. I love that CC had the nuts to do something outside the box. That’s what a true artist does. I also understand your reluctance to ask for a photo. I’ve been doing concert bookings for 20 years. I booked CC’s solo tour twice and I did not have the stones to ask if I could meet him. But the shows were great, especially the first tour. So that’s still my point of pride, like you getting him to laugh during your session. Cornell’s talent as a songwriter can’t be overstated. He is badly missed.

Phil. Been watching you for many years. You're exceedingly humble and I always enjoy the fact that you use self-effacing dialog to describe yourself, even when it's clearly not warranted. You're an amazing artist.

Chris's loss will forever be an unhealed wound, the fact that he chose "you" is the ultimate compliment, he knew what a talented "Badass" you are! I can't imagine how cool that must have been for you. I'd never heard of you until the night I was searching for a cover of "Superstition", and when I saw your cover I almost passed it by, something told me to check it out and I did, "it blew me away" I must have watched that video 12 times, I've been a fan ever since, you've got a great voice and your abilities on a guitar are mind blowing, as a player myself you're truly an inspiration. Rock on my friend🤘🏻

Man you got such great skills for studio stuff. The way you mix rock guitar with pop sensibilities makes me immediately think I could hear 90% of your songs on the radio. I've been playing guitar my whole life , playing bars, festivals, weddings, regional shows in cover bands and I'm a really good copycat. My weakness has always been coming up with original music and I hate the fact that I can copy and cover just about anyone but I can't for the life of me be original. I really admire you for the way you go about songwriting. Please, do more of these vids man, we know you got tons of stories.

Really cool story! Love that you are such a pro, yet still fan out when you meet a hero. I have been a huge fan of Cornell’s since ‘90, and actually met him in 99 after a concert in Seattle. I sucked it up and asked for a pic and he said yes. I treasure that photo to this day. I feel for you... but you have the honor and f’n epic experience of being forever linked with him via recording. It’s the strongest track/version on the album!

Great story Phil, thats so bad ass you played on a Cornell solo track !! Back in 1990 Soundgarden was on tour w/Voivod and Faith No More and they played a little fill in club date in my hometown an hour NW of Philly and after the show I simply walked backstage (no security) and there was Chris and we drank a beer (actually he spilled a beer all over me) together and chatted. Coolest rock star 10 minutes of my life !!

Really enjoyed hearing the story and also seeing you breakdown the parts like that. I saw Audioslave live back in the day and they were amazing. I always regretted that I didn't really get into Soundgarden until they were already broken up. That was a nice way to kind of experience some of the genius though - they did some Soundgarden and Rage Against the Machine songs at the end too. Chris Cornell really was a crazy good vocalist and song writer.

I remember working at a ma and pa record store in the late 80’s as vinyl began to trickle to nearly a stop. CDs had become king. I was stocking the few we had gotten in and I see this LP -Sound Garden “Louder Than Love.”-The record cover alone told me this was something completely different from what had become an overwrought, over produced pop metal factory: all the glam, none of the growl. Instead of filing under “S”, my pinky nail sliced the sleeve and within moments of the needle hitting the groove, I could hear the paradigm change. It was coming out of my corner of the world no less, the Northwest. I hadn’t heard of any of the bands that would go onto define the next decade in music yet but I believe my store started to get the Seattle culture newspaper “The Rocket” soon after that. It became the antidote to REM’s ‘Green’ and ‘Document’ which was coming out of every other dorm room on any given floor and usually simultaneously. Once again, I felt that primal scream of youth. Loved those REM records but I had had enough. It’s wonderful to hear something for the first time, and the greats reward that same feeling with each listen. That was my introduction to Chris Cornell. Granted, not as cool as playing on his track but a hell of lot less intimidating. Great story Phil-thanks for sharing. I just love all the stories. People pass but a story lasts forever. Cheers!
