I’ve got a Chevy truck with an aluminum shell that I have to sleep in during the winter months. My set up is a 29 “ x 72 “ x 3” mattress. , a Browning sleeping bag -40 and two heavy blankets in case it’s warm enough to use just those or extra layers if it gets too cold. Always open a window for the Mr Buddy heater and it cuts down on the condensation. Always wonderful getting dripped on when it’s cold outside. When everything works correctly it’s hard getting out of a nice warm bed . Good luck.

I watch a few vanlifers from Canada. Most of them used to used the buddy heaters. They all had the condensation issue until they got either a diesel dry heater. Since you run on diesel, they just tapped into the main gas tank, and never have to worry about it running out. Some cold days they run it all night. Maybe something to think about, also don’t have to worry about carbon monoxide
Exactly, you can just get a cheap Chinese Diesel Heater, running that in my Jeep, dry heat and so much safer. Either way I would have a carbon monoxide detector for safety though. I have been running a diesel heater in my Jeep for overlanding and love it.
That's a British car heater for you. My 66 MGB had ice on the inside of the windshield. My fuel pump would quit, so I banged the floor where it was mounted with a hammer until it started working again then carry on.
You need a diesel heater. They're cheap and your truck is already a diesel. Also you won't get the condensation you get from your propane heater and it's safer. Mount it to your roof rack and get someone to cut a hole into your rig and insulate it. You'll have all the heat you can want.
Something I learned via driving a semi truck in the winter. When it’s that cold out turn your defrost off and put it on feet heat. Let your windshield get cold. The ice frozen to it will fall off and the snow won’t stick to or freeze on it.
I can relate, did 5 days in the BC interior at -21 in my F-150 4x4 atleast 2 ft. of snow... vulnerable feeling but a rush to get through... people don't know the feeling until they push through and do it...🙏
Get a vevor diesel heater you will have to put anti gel in the diesel or you could use Karosine. You will love it and they are cheap and inexpensive to run

If you can use foil backed insulation board about 1/2 foil facing you mounted on the roof will help you greatly. It will stop the condensation and also reflect heat back to you. Use panel adhesive on your roof framing and back up with a couple screws with washers.
Just a suggestion, in freezing weather if you can avoid setting the emergency brake I think it would be advisable sometimes they will freeze up and not want to release because of the freezing temperatures. Thank you for the video.
I've worked and traveled in -66 Fahrenheit, so I know subzero temperatures are no joke. Props to you for taking them so seriously and still managing to make the best of your experience.

I survived my first winter living out of my truck. Wasn’t easy and there were some bitter cold nights. Coldest I slept in would of been somewhere in the neighborhood of -15. I want to go west sometime I’ve never seen mountains before. Cool video.🤙🏻
There are specific precautions concerning flying drones in cold temperatures; one issue being rapid battery drainage. And they don’t recommend flying them in temperatures less than 32 degrees F. Anyway, sorry you lost your drone. But your Defender performed great. And you and Blue are safe. Yes, you do have the cutest dog in the world!❤️
Thanks for this, we live the same. Old Willy's with flatbed camper and my best friend a very spoiled border collie that is my everything! As you expressed gratitude and a good attitude are essential to this lifestyle!
In the cold with the buddy and or the big buddy just run the pilot light after you get the space warm. That’s what I do in Washington in the cold for hunting. I’ll run the heater for an hour than leave the pilot light lit with 3 layers of foil underneath it to reflect the heat.
Love the old Land Rover. I grew up with Land Rovers and drove them in the British Armed Forces all over the world. They are a man and woman's best friend. Point it's nose in any direction and it will get you there. The last Land Rovers i drove in the Army were the Wolf Land Rover Defenders and there were an Arctic winterised kit that insulated the land rover on the inside and there was a radiator grill canvas cover too to keep the engine heat inside in really cold conditions. You should still be able to find the Arctic kits online maybe over here in the UK. All the best . Awesome video content. 🤙🤙🤙
So happy that Poe started for you and thank you for the lovely scenery you showed up. Sorry about the Drone, but I guess we knew it was coming. It had a good life and brought us beautiful scenery. Happy you both survived the cold.
The coldest weather ever I’ve ever slept in my vehicle was around -3 -5. All I had was my 0 degree bag with a busted zipper. It’s always pretty amazing how much a hoodie and some sweats can take you.
Adventures always come with struggles and tribulations. As a drone pilot, i definitely felt that loss. But at the end of the day at least you were able to maintain a positive attitude about the mishaps. That says alot about your ability to appreciate the moments and the experiences reguardless. And nobody was hurt during your adventure! 😊
Another Awesome video ! Blue looked Fine with a capital ((( F ))) In his new coat ! Sorry about the drone ! But I must say You have the most fantastic attitude in the face of adversity ! Just telling it like it is ! Love and Blessings to You and Yours 🤗🙏🐾 PS : You really need a 50w heater that works off the power station. You could even get a heated blanket that works of it.
A farmer I know has a defender that has done 300,000 miles. He pulls a livestock trailer with it. So keep it servicest regular. He checks the oil and water every day. And when it's serviced get them to check the axles for oil.
Girl, you need a Webasto heater (this is the brand we have in Italy) for keeping the car warm during the night. You install it in the engine hood, connect to the air flaps of the dashboard. You'll see when you wake up warm and you don't have to defrost windows🤗
Those canister stove suck the heat from around them in order to evaporate the gas inside. In cold weather, there isn't enough heat to maintain the rate of evaporating gas. Simple old Canadian snow camping trick is to have a pan with two inches of warm water and set the canister in it. I have a foam pad under my setup to keep the water warm. It'll keep the pressure more even as the stove runs. You'll get better pressure as well. Never overhear a canister! Just warm it. Good Luck.
I’ve slept in the truck in Breckenridge so many times in the winter on ski trips really not that bad if you have the gear, I always have carpet layers for the bed, military sleeping bags I have 2 Mod3 systems they’re great and just kept a coffee can for heat that I could burn a few tea candles in safely every couple hours they really will provide good heat.
Kudos! We just did a tent camping trip in a truck bed tent (with our 2 cats and dog), and the coldest it got was 22°F overnight. We have the larger Mr.Buddy heater, which ended up being way to hot (even in a tent with windows vented lol), so we ended up just leaving it off. Also, Colorado looks beautiful!
If you're going to do more cold weather camping consider a diesel heater. Can warm your engine and your ' home '. It's a dry heat so it takes care of the condensation and a throttle lock to raise up your idle RPM for warm up. Great Vid!
The worst thing you can do is wear clothing while sleeping in the cold. My wife and I own 2 acres in the Alleghany mountains of NY, and we get at least 4ft of snow up there every year. I always sleep with underwear only. I roll up my clothes and put them in the bottom of the sleeping bag. By doing so, you allow that 98.6 to fill the bag and keep you cozy and warm. My wife wears her clothes and always wakes up cold. I know you can't show us, but I hope you take this advice and use it in the future. God's best to you and your buddy while you travel.🙂

Any possibility on getting insurance for drones when you purchase them for motor loss? Any way, you and Blue are now certified Polar Bear climate survivors. 🐻❄ 👍
The best thing about a diesel with a manual, prior to sensors, electronics etc, It will run without a battery with a push and popping the clutch or if you're on an incline. You can get to help, parts store or home.

Just use a chock or leave it in gear
Not a problem on a Defender as it's on the drive shaft right up behind the transfer case, not only wheels like most vehicles.
That's to say "not on the wheels" (darned autocorrect!)
The best camp vehicle, a diesel w a manual trans 4x4. Awesome.
I've worked and traveled in -66 Fahrenheit, so I know subzero temperatures are no joke. Props to you for taking them so seriously and still managing to make the best of your experience.
Why why why why why would you endure those kind of conditions
@@Tonyscasa Bills don't pay themselves, unfortunately, and in the midst of a cold spell like that people have to have a way to get home.
Keep up the good work, only positive thoughts! Our thoughts create our reality!
I love your videos Maria.I'm sorry about your drone.I know how you feel because I lost my expensive rc plane over somewhere in my neighborhood and never found it.I love to be there right now, love the cold.I'm in 🔥 Florida right now.
I envy your time out there. Truly. Amazing rover and amazing adventure!! Hope the rest your time is fun and goes well.
I survived my first winter living out of my truck. Wasn’t easy and there were some bitter cold nights. Coldest I slept in would of been somewhere in the neighborhood of -15.
I want to go west sometime I’ve never seen mountains before.
Cool video.🤙🏻
You both are truly blessed to have each other on your journeys!! Stay safe and well. Love seeing your Journey!!❤️🤗
All set up for camping in a truck in the middle of winter and no ice scraper. Brilliant 👍
There are specific precautions concerning flying drones in cold temperatures; one issue being rapid battery drainage. And they don’t recommend flying them in temperatures less than 32 degrees F. Anyway, sorry you lost your drone. But your Defender performed great. And you and Blue are safe. Yes, you do have the cutest dog in the world!❤️
Forresty Forrest & Lone Wolf both fly their drones in sub zero temps. Awesome snow shots etc. Maybe it's a different type.
Girlie girl is figgen gorheous
Fantastic video, and very soothing. Looks quite comfy with the pooch. Thanks for sharing, all the best!
So glad you both made it through that cold night. You and Blue are troopers.
My dear you look amazing keep safe ✌
You cute
Amazing video! That looks like the Breckinridge area… my wife and I were up there in December ‘22 for a wedding. Amazing part of our beautiful country
That dog’s having the best adventure he could have ever wanted ❤️
Another Awesome video !
Blue looked Fine with a capital ((( F ))) In his new coat !
Sorry about the drone ! But I must say You have the most fantastic attitude in the face of adversity ! Just telling it like it is !
Love and Blessings to You and Yours 🤗🙏🐾
PS : You really need a 50w heater that works off the power station.
You could even get a heated blanket that works of it.
Greetings from Colorado. Glad you liked it here; to bad the weather wasn’t more favorable for you and the pup, but glad you enjoyed it
That face blue made after he had jacket on 😂
A farmer I know has a defender that has done 300,000 miles.
BS!
I have a black and white miniature Assie. It’s amazing how they have same mannerisms. They are so smart, at least Layla makes me look stupid.
Girlll I’m proud of u camping alone with just your doggy good for you getting out there and exploring 🙌
Good Luck.
This is awesome, I wish I could travel like this. Big ups to you and blue! Very cool
Small tip, 2 parts rubbing alcohol, 1 part water. It melts the ice off the windshield super easy. I put it in my window wash fluid tank.
You're a great mommy to Blue. Be safe out there!
Wow your brave I’m glad you got through the storm safely and are staying warm ! I love your pup Blue he’s beautiful ❣️❣️
Great, and different, video. I live in southwestern Colorado, near the San Juan mountains and I know some winters can be a challenge.
Awww you three a beautiful! You, Blue and Po. Look after Blue what a lovely dog. Stay safe x
Drone or no drone... the Roaming Reckless show must go on. I must say that you handled the loss of the drone quite well Maria as you do all your annoying little setbacks.
Wow, that weather was crazy and Colorado is beautiful. - May your drone RIP. Wouldn’t it be something if someone stumbles upon it and reaches out? 🤞🏼 ya never know.
