- Use the first part as a reference. I break down this section as best I can after the intro. I will do sections of the solo in Part 2 but I may go ahead and Post "Freedom" from Live in Maui first just because I love the way he phrases notes in that song. It's full of Jimi'isms.

Thank you. It's a standard vintage 1964 Strat that was originally Lake Placid Blue but a previous owner decided to spray paint it black. It's still a cool guitar.
And the Jimi'isms are cool. And, now that I have seen him at Live in Maui, I knew the tone was not a Strat and now I want that reissue Flying V Gibson just released. I know that's not going to happen but it would be nice. I didn't check the price.
Holy moly, that reissue Gibson Flying V is $9,999.00.

You've come along way since I first watched you! I can tell you have deep respect for jimi Hendrix.
i have a tendency of viewing most youtube comments that contain a compliment as hyperbole, so i feel the need to clarify that this isnt. Your tutorials are absolutely amazing, i derive so much joy from learning what youve found out no doubt through a long fucking time of figuring this out, and then playing it myself in jams with my friends. Youre consistently improving the life of another person with an improved ability to enjoy music.
I really appreciate that Tom. It's pretty cool to know that it is being put to good use. I was just a little irritated when I would see other covers or tutorials and I would say to myself, "you guys are just missing the essence of Jimi." There is a reason why I get into the details. That is where Jimi's genius resides.

I like you your teaching style as well. Repeating things, breaking it down slow etc. Keep these tutorials coming. And don't worry about the flubs. Even Jimi didn't play the same thing twice!
The sound is good, I think you mentioned you are in a separate room from the amp? That's the way I play when I'm turning up. The amp still overpowers the vocals in the mix a little, but the sound quality is great!
Do you have any plans for breaking down the solo section? That would be great if you could. Even if it's not note for note perfect. Just to see what position he's playing etc...

Thanks Chase. Sorry I have not posted anything in a while. Jimi blew a nerve in my neck when doing Freedom, lol. I’m getting some steroid injections tomorrow in my neck tomorrow. Hopefully they help. I’ve been listening to Bold As Love and there is a smoothness to his tone that’s difficult to reproduce. I’m working on it.
Just being able to see the solo I can tell I will be able to learn off of this, thank you teacher for sharing your knowledge and passing some skill and talent

Hey Gabriel, thank you for the kind words. Yes, the masters of the '60's really started a revolution in music. It is inspiring to see so many young musician going back to study what they did and how music has changed so much (not for the better) in recent years. I'm working on a few more but I can tell it will take some time because I am working on three at one time.

There (was) a channel on YT who went by the name of CreamForever (if I remember correctly) who had well over 5 hours of Red House 26 live recordings 2 1/2 hours of Hear my train (could have been well over a dozen live versions) and a heap of Little Wing versions! They got pulled off (of course)!

You have the best strat tone on RUclips - I guess it's still your vintage Bassman? I notice that you are picking the strings quite hard, is that to be able to get a percussive effect? Great insight into how to play the song. Thx.
Yes, it is the 1960 Tweed Bassman. My hard picking is probably more of a bad habit and the way I have always played. I'm trying to change some because it wears out my index fingernail to paper thin and it hurts like you know what.

I’m a sucker for all this....you are making me want to build a strat. I seem to like the 60’s winds ....maybe it’s all those great recordings. Have you messed around with that? I just watched a Rabea vid comparing different pickups and went away liking the the Bare Knuckle winds. Does a person match the wood/neck to pickups? Do you feel it in how the neck reacts? Is that what makes one strat shine? Does the rosewood give the warmth? .....more flexible for different tones? Apologies....I’m a late bloomer. I spent probably 2 years in the late 80’s, early 90’s listening to nothing but old blues records and Jimmy. Axis bold as Love just slays me. Finding my way into electric. Like John Lee Hooker said, “ It’s in him, and it’s gots to come out” Cheers and thanks. I know where to come now.

There was something weird about your tone tonight, I couldn’t quite put my finger on it.
It sounded like something was different as far as your pick, strings, frets, saddles? Have you changed anything recently or is it still all stock?

Let’s see. In the intro, I have the Voodoo Fuzz on the whole time as well as the Area 51 Alienist and maybe the Funky-Vibe preamp. I have Pyramid wound strings, Hendrix gauge. Old blackbottom 1964 pickups which I haven’t played much lately, guitar volume on 7. Two camera mics staggered about 3 feet apart. 2nd part is just clean amp in another room.

I usually reference the outputs of the Rumpelstiltskin Experiences for later Hendrix even though the website says Experiences were early Jimi and Gypsys were BOG Jimi. Experiences are B-6.8K, M-6.2K, N-6.2K, Gypsys are B-6.2K, M-5.6K, N-5.6K. I have both and love both. In this video, I am using my old 1964 black bottom pickups which are B-6.3K, M-5.96K, B-5.21K.

@@levijessegonzalez3629 I like the base plates. I've had them on and then an "expert" told me he didn't like them. After I took it off, I put it right back on. I have them on most of my bridge pups and I think Rumpelstiltskin puts them on all of his now unless you request not to. There is one in this black guitar on a vintage Abygail Ybarra pickup. To me, the Experiences sound a lot like Jimi's guitar at Woodstock. But, the Gypsys have a crystal clear high that is really nice too.
