One of the best all around, logic reviews on the ID.4. I bought an identical one about 3 weeks ago. Honestly, the off-road portion of the video convinced me AWD isn’t necessary for standard driving and minimal off road needs. Nice job!
I have owned my ID4 for two-months and it’s back to service again! VW has changed my screen (Head Unit) three times and still it keeps going dark while driving. Also, the Car-Net app is useless only three functions, ( Battery Level, Car Climate, & Charging Stations). Some of the positive things are the seats are very comfortable, very quite, power is okay, panoramic roof with cover, three-years of free Electrify America charging, and the turning radius awesome! Lastly, they are not all sold out, some people did preorder them, but many are sitting on dealers lots. Negotiate for a fair price!
As @Blake stated, the ID.4 has "lane centering" with ACC, just that VW calls it "Drive Assist;" it is available on all 2021 ID.4s, regardless of trim level. You just had to push the "button" for "Travel Assist" (icon looks like a car) on the steering wheel.
It's concerning that he got this wrong -- and harped on about it. At least put a correction / apology in the description. People will decide not to purchase or lease based on this misinformation. Liability concerns?
As a new ID.4 driver I think you gave a fair assessment but you did miss a few things as the car has a steep learning curve. It does have lane centering but its called "travel assist". Press the lower right button on the left side of the steering wheel to activate. You can drive hands free if the car senses lanes for awhile then touch the wheel to let it know you are there occasionally. One other misunderstanding is when you questioned why you would want a sport mode for adaptive cruise control. In sport mode it sets your adaptive distance more aggressive. Not as important but the left button at 8:28 is not the "main" menu but the "park" menu. You did get lucky with the voice commands and the navigation, they are both pretty dismal. As far as I know, there are not tire pressure sensors, from what I've read it reads differences in tire sizes to sense a low pressure tire.
Just bought my wife the Pro S model. We highly recommend this vehicle. It's a hoot to drive. The Pro S model is packed with features, it even has massaging driver & passenger seats. My wife is stoked not having to gas up anymore lol. This is our first electric vehicle and we are loving it so far.
I just got the Black Pro S. I just love this car. I had it for all most a month and I am still discovering new things about it. First for me as well. Best vehicle I ever owned.
I've watched several id4 reviews. Your off-road stress tests are a major advantage over the others. I think the 2wd should definitely have a frunk, but these will sell.
also, the space that would be used for the frunk, was used for interior space and importantly also used to give more room to the wheels and the turning circle is incredible, it turns on a dime
@@jh5kl The improved turning circle is a very good point, but even a small frunk to hold all the various cables and adapters would be a bonus. I wish vw brought in the id3. Maybe later?

Great review Ryan. 1:14 LOL. The MY frunk full of stuff adds extra weight ahead of the front axle. That makes the MY an understeer handling vehicle. I loved this review as I want to EV to, among other things, be good on USFS roads here in WA state. I'd LOVE to see such a review of the Volvo XC40 Recharge (EV) AWD.
My 2020 Subaru Forester Limited lets me adjust how aggressive the acceleration is during adaptive cruise (3 or 4 levels). Maybe that is equivalent to the sport mode of the adaptive cruise on the ID.4. Was that not available on the Outback XT you used? It is buried in the menus... you may not have known.

Too funny - he keeps saying “foot off the gas”. What “gas” pedal? It’s ELECTRIC! I could not care less about a very small truck (frunk) in the front! The All Wheel Drive is great for the off-road. Thanks for the review.
5:40 The car will turn off with passengers inside and turn off the A/C too so you'd have to leave the key inside the car and turn it back on if you want to keep the A/C running :/
when you take your seatbelt off and put the car in park there should be a menu that pops up that says ( immediate AC ) this will keep the A/C running for 30 Min. after that im not exactly sure if the passenger can turn it on without the key but I know if the key is inside the passenger can click the physical button on the steering column to keep the A/C on I feel as if VW could have done a better job with this.

I think the Tesla disclaimer at the beginning is spot on and somehow a lot of people can't get their head around that there are people not attracted by raw acceleration or car as a gadget...
Intresting fact: VW produce their electric cars in the same factory ( East Germany) where was produced the soviet car Trabant
I loved this review as I want to EV to, among other things, be good on USFS roads here in WA state. I'd LOVE to see such a review of the Volvo XC40 Recharge (EV) AWD.
Im always completly satisfied with ur review
Hi Ryan, any chance you'll be getting to review a BMW 2-Series. Interested to see your thoughts about FWD BMWs.
Please could you do the same test with enyaq 80x?
Although I believe you missed the “B” mode on the shifter which is VW’s regen 1-pedal driving mode…different from the “D” standard drive mode.
I am a tesla fan so I obviously want this car is so cool !
What's the speed limit on that road? How far can the car go on a full battery?
Will you be getting an AWD to test out?
Great review as always! does the ID 4 qualify for federal tax credits even though its made in Germany? Thank You.
My understanding is that currently it does qualify for credits.
I have a 2021 dual motor model 3. I did get stuck in my driveway with over a 8 inches of snow. I was looking at the model y but the interior creaks and rattles are pretty bad. I’m just waiting for the awd id4 so I can get that. Still never getting rid of the Tesla. But I feel like the vw will be built better and I’m biased.
Too funny - he keeps saying “foot off the gas”. What “gas” pedal? It’s ELECTRIC!
I could not care less about a very small truck (frunk) in the front!
The All Wheel Drive is great for the off-road.
Thanks for the review.
Did VW update the charger navigation to avoid level 1 chargers when on a trip?
does the Base model have Heated Seats !? I think I am being snowed by a Dealer Rep that the Base model does not have heated seat !!
12:36 Hopefully on the non-press cars they tighten the brake pedal a little more 😂
Really, really curious how a FWD SUV would do on the trail? E.g. the Santa Fe or Highlander. Thanks for the very informative vids!

The car will turn off with passengers inside and turn off the A/C too so you'd have to leave the key inside the car and turn it back on if you want to keep the A/C running :/
when you take your seatbelt off and put the car in park there should be a menu that pops up that says ( immediate AC ) this will keep the A/C running for 30 Min. after that im not exactly sure if the passenger can turn it on without the key but I know if the key is inside the passenger can click the physical button on the steering column to keep the A/C on I feel as if VW could have done a better job with this.
Amazing 4x4 test
.. you are also able to do it with bwd
6.41 you activate Travel assist. That is what keeps you in the middle of the lane.
Damn... I'm the exact target audience. P.s. you got so many of the infosystem part wrong.
wth u talkin bout
Another awesome review for real world use!
AWD version is out for the journalists now. Maybe get the AWD version back on the trail here again?
Hyundai Ionic 5 is smaller than this one?very interesting video that’s what the future is looking like!👍🏼👍🏼
I bought a black one , I’ve seen other reviews where the IDs have augmented reality
How come mine or the one you’re reviewing doesn’t have it ?
US regulations don’t allow it :(
Superb review 🍻
Great video 📹👍
Federal rebate of $7,500 is very nice! I got my order in. That federal rebate could be as large as $12,500 if Joe Biden gets his way.
Great review!
12:23 -- and this is why I will probably opt for a different EV (even though I love my e-Golf and was interested in ID.4 since ID.3 is not coming to N. America). Are you absolutely sure that stronger regenerative braking is not user-selectable though (I'm always a bit leery of non-EV cognizant reviewers). If anyone knows, please drop a reply here, thanks!
2022 Mitsubishi Outlander review and off-road test please.
It looks like it performed better going up the trail than Trailblazer active awd.
isn't it only 2 wheel drive? I wouldn't expect it to do too well.. I'd be more interested in seeing how the 4 wheel drive performs when they come out later
Can you get a Volvo XC 40 Recharge and see what it can do?
Ok how would you charge it back in the woods so you can make it back down the trail?
If you go multiple trails.
You can only go to 1 destination.
Find a very long downhill run. Lol.
I drive long distances almost every day in the winter in mountainous rural areas. 250 mi. range will not cut it. When I can get legit actual 350 mi. range in very cold (Zero degrees Fahrenheit) weather I will be ready. But I fear this is pretty far off, and will end up costing $100K.
Says: It also has WIRELESS CarPlay
*plugs cable into phone for CarPlay*
