Jimi's Band of Gypsies show at the Fillmore he is starting to play more like Alvin plays. And then he died. :( I also think that Alvin and each member of Ten Years After. I believe if Alvin Lee were a comic book superhero, he would be “the flash.“ Rarely, but once in a while, a talent emerges, which is a gift. A gift that is not as much absorbed from the outside as it is a fountain that flows from within their very soul, and is an integral part of their being at the very core of who they are. This was Alvin Lee I should add that not only could he play as he did electrically but he also played just as well and I encourage people to find his acoustic work because it is beautiful. I must have listened to his album “a space in time” more than 600 times in my lifetime and never get tired of it. Alvin Lee, I thank you for all the entertainment you provided us through the years while you were with us and I am angry at the surgeon who botched your surgery and took us away From your talent and your life much too soon. Ten Years After was my first concert of an international act. It was in the Twin Cities, MN. Foghat opened the show. Seats were 2nd row enter. I TYA 3 times and Ten Years Later one time. That was when they toured with Jefferson Starship on the Earth album tour.
All he really needs is a few guitar lessons and he might not be half bad ;-) Alvin Lee, one of the greatest guitarist of all time. Seriously, it’s rare but once in a while, someone comes along with a gift the talent it isn’t absorbed from outside, but flows like a fountain from their very soul, as the music is an integral part of their being at their very core, this was Alvin Lee. I recommend listening to his acoustic guitar work in addition to his electric finesse. Alvin was always disappointing without Ten Years After. Ten Years LATER were pretty dreadful. The addition of keyboards(Chick Churchill) made a HUGE difference & Rhythm section Leo & Ric complimented Alvin's style more than anyone else who played with Him. Too bad Alvin didn't recognize that Himself.

My brother was gone to woodstock and the news came on. They showed a clip of Alvin Lee and I shit my pants. I had a few of his albums already. SHHHH, cricklewood green amongst them. He looked totally drugged out. In the news his eyes looked black. I was very excited 14 year old. My brother got to keep his tickets and had them in a drawer. $7. Those were the days.

Yeah I was thinking the same!! This finally seems to be the uncut version of I’m Going Home! In the movie and on all official records there has been some cutting/editing! This version seems to be slightly slower though.
I was only 10 at the time, but if I could have been there for one set, this would have been it from the first notes of Spoonful to Alvin Lee walking off the stage with a watermelon on his shoulder.

I was lucky enough to see the OG Ten Years After with support Band being Wishbone Ash. It was Alvin's TYA farewell Tour and the very last show too. Was a great show, but in hindsight a terribly sad one too. But they played practically a 2 hour set with full drum solo ''The Hobbit'' and Bass solo's and of course Alvin being a Guitar God. I am honoured to of witnessed it. I have seen many Bands like Queen at Wembley for example. And watching TYA in London was one of the best gigs I have ever been too.
I was te years when listen this music, IN Lima, Perú... Third world country... My olds Brothers had some rocks vinil lps... Some drugs were walking around my House.. Then, IN some grand apliance sale called "feria del hogar", I saw and knew the woodstock Movie.. My life never Will be the same ....
The look and sound of absolute commitment to their music, and to the vibe flowing through him, in Alvin during "I'm Going Home" as seen in the Woodstock film is soooo enchanting...it's reminiscent of Bob Marley a few years later.

They knew they were out of tune and it was because of the humidity at Woodstock that affected their instruments and the tuning slipped out of it. Sounds like you know everything about HENDRIX, & F*CK-ALL about the (well documented) tuning f*ck-up LEO LYONS ,from Ten Years After, experienced ,that night, a different day ,different humidity to when Hendrix performed.
2)ALVIN LEE, LEO LYONS, whenever they were asked to recall their memories of Woodstock, always mentioned about that tuning issue ,& THE DANGERS GOING ON AFTER THE STORM & THE STAGE WAS DRENCHED WITH WATER. They brought it up in interviews ever since the 1970's. Woodstock was the ONLY time that happened SO, HUMIDITY WAS NOTICEABLY AN ISSUE AT THAT GIG. THEY HADN'T HAD THE ISSUE PRIOR, THEY DIDN'T HAVE THE ISSUE AFTER, NOT AS BAD AS WOODSTOCK.
3)Alvin Lee's technique Blew Hendrix off that stage, even with Leo Lyons having tuning problems. I'm a HUGE Hendrix fan, but, as a kid, I stayed up all night to watch Woodstock on TV in 1989 specifically to see HENDRIX. I'd never heard of Alvin Lee or Ten Years After. As a lead guitarist singer I'd take Alvin over Jimi, anyday. Jimi (mostly) sounded CRAP live. SOME of that is due to recording quality limitations of the time.
I also appreciate the huge talent's Hendrix had in His own right others of the time didn't have i.e: songwriting, chord embellishment innovation, showmanship(...though He stole quite a bit of that from Pete Townshend) ..& more.
