  • Gorgeous conditions and some fantastic fish, what a perfect day. Enjoying some great fishing with some stunning coloured Ballan Wrasse and Cuckoo wrasse on light gear, and using live sand eel to fish for Pollack over the reefs. Pollack are great fighters and great fun on balanced tackle. Could the day get any better? No but it can get worse! Watch until the end to see the drama unfold.....

    Hi John as you know I am a big recent fan, so I am working my way back through your back catologue, just found this video, and have one comment, when I have had to limp back in due to a problem, which has happened to me a couple times over 30 years, I have always put a PAN call out to the Coastguard, and just asked them to monitor my progress, it just means :1 they check that you have got back, and 2 if something else goes wrong they know about you and have an idea where you are etc,

    Thanks for another enjoyable video, mate and Glad that you got back O.K. with out having to call for help.
    Down here in Jersey, we usually find that when the sand eel comes back with a bite on the neck like yours did, the culprit is a cuttle fish, do you get them in your neck of the woods? They are an excellent bait for conger, rays and anything big enough to take them, just cut out the white bone and hook on. Good luck with your fishing and I eagerly await your next video.

    Hi John, what an eventful expedition! Lovely to see those pretty Wrasse! Some lovely Pollack too - did I detect a little hesitation with that last big one? I thought that one might be heading back to the Fish Locker Manor for tea! I would have been tempted! Shame about the steering cable but as you said, all the maintainance in the world won't prevent an occasional breakage. At least you did what you said, kept your head and got home safely, and at the end of the day, it made for another fantastic video!
    Have you done a video about the virtues of Mono Vs Fluoro Vs Braid? Another topic I would like to see is the best way to spool up reels for shore fishing/casting - I think with a boat reel, it's not so crucial. I bought some 20Lb braid for the reel for the new Continental beachcaster, and on the 4th cast, it went out fine, but when I reeled it in, there were 3 small 'Birds nests' about 20 yards up from the shock leader. I'm wondering whether, in an effort to get the best casting performance, I overspooled the Braid a bit! Anyway, good luck, tight lines, and many thanks!

    • @TheFishLocker
      @TheFishLocker  5 лет назад +1

      Trampster - Yes things were going so well. Some nice fish and a lovely day... Sod’s law I suppose. All sorted in the end. I haven’t done a braid vs mono vid but it is a possible subject to have a look at. The shame with ones like that is everyone thinks they’re an expert and the vids always get loads of dislikes - like the boat launching one. 🤷🏻‍♂️ The little birdsnests sound a bit like wind knots. Maybe a combination of too much on the spool and not tightly enough on the spool. I always like to load a spool at home and then run it out on the back of the boat with a small rag or something attached. Then reload it all onto the spool under some pressure.

    • @trampster7306
      @trampster7306 5 лет назад

      @@TheFishLocker Thanks for the reply John! Dislikes on the boat launching video?? I thought it was superbly informative, and regretfully, I don't even have a Boat! 😂😂 I did load the reel at home with a decent line spooler and some tension, and I can see what you mean by running it out from the back of the Boat, but again, no Boat! Perhaps I ought to tie it to the back of me Jeep & try that! 😂😂 Luckily, the reel in question came with a spare spool, and whilst I didn't have any Mono to hand, I did have a big spool of Kastking Fluoro so have thrown that on to try!! Thanks Mate!

    • @TheFishLocker
      @TheFishLocker  4 года назад

      - There are several on the market but studies show they still have a high mortality rate with certain species and at any depths over 100ft.
