New version is optically different? Thanks!
Absolutely love your reviews. Always includes the info I am looking for, without a bunch of useless information. When I am reviewing gear and see that you have covered it, I always check out what you have to say. Thank you!
I have this lens on my Fujifilm X-T4 and I’m extremely satisfied with it. The AF works great and the image quality is outstanding for the price. I might get the upcoming Viltrox 56mm F1.4 just because I enjoy the 23mm F1.4 so much.
I agree, it is surprisingly good.
Thank you for your review of Viltrox lens.👍👍
You're welcome, thank you for making this lens!
Would this lens be good for Film making?
@@astrokeneda watch sigma 19mm honest review
There is no reason to watch a review of 19mm Sigma. It’s not even available for Fujifilm and it is mediocre at best.
@@TheHybridShooter hi! How come your lens Doesn't have the gold (af 23mm 1.4) writing on the top??
You earn my respect by being a good and honest reviewer. You earn even more respect by having an Omega Speedmaster.
it would be great to see them produce a compact 23mm f2 prime to compete with the fuji option. this is cheaper than the fuji f2 prime, but much bigger. i’d quite like a 23mm as a walk around lens but the size of this puts me off a bit. OTOH, the close focus softness of the fuji and its price means i probably won’t bother.
I have the 56mm Viltrox for my X-T3 and i am thinking of buying this for some landscape photography, i don't do much landscape photography so i think this would be a good buy rather than spending a lot more on a fuji zoom lens.
Your review is as always highly pleasing and professional.
Good luck from Moscow)
More X-T4 content please! :D
Good review! Do you know if the sony version also have n Updatet version without the yellow/gold letters ?
Great review. It's really good to see Fuji opening up the X mount to third party.
How about the autofocus noise? Is it audible when using internal mic for occasional vlogging?
Nice review. I would've liked some portrait samples on it though :)
Thank you! I don't shoot portraits at all, so you will have to take a look at other reviews for that.
Great review!
Thank you!
i was searching for it a lot
prefer to get 23mm f2 xf or this viltrox 23mm f1.4? for street. landscape
Can you compare this lens to the new Fuji version 23mm 1.4 and maybe against Sonys 35 1.8 as well?
What's the difference between the 23mm version 1 and version 2 lenses, apart from the physical body?
i have questions when i turn to A mode in lens still a cant change apertun in my camera i set my camera to manual . any fix? the apperture is turning red cant change it
Would u prefer this to 23mm f2 ?
Hi thanks for this review, would you mind double check if the focus transition is really smooth, because at 06:42 I can still see that the focus were shifting in 2 steps, not really continuously shifting. If possible, could you try to use the slowest AF setting to see if the focus shift is really smooth? I hope you can help because this is important for me before making purchase decision. Thanks.
Unfortunately, I am not able to do any more tests at the moment.
It would be interesting to see the difference between the Viltrox 33mm F1.4 V1 vrs V2 🤷🏽♂️
The is the only X-mount Viltrox lens that I have, so that is not possible.
Nice review my friend! Is this lens work good for XS10?
Thank you! Yes, it does.
great review
Thank you!
Are you live in Bratislava? I've been there once. I love your city 😍
Where did you buy the second version of that lens.? On amazon uk? Thanks. Vďaka.
I got it from here, it shows the picture of old version, but the ship the new one www.pergear.com/products/viltrox-23mm-f1-4-x-mount?_pos=1&_sid=e2efde2f4&_ss=r?ref=5e70b25ae1b94
does XT4 in-body stabilization work well with Viltrox 23mm? I am expecting the XT4 stabilization system is more compatible with the Fuji lens, such as 33mm F2. What is your experience? thanks.
There is no reason why it would work better or worse with this lens. There is no OIS in either of those lenses, so there is no compatibility required.
Nice review. Would have liked to see how it compares to the Fuji XF 23mm F2
Thank you, so would I, but I don't have one at the movement.
@@TheHybridShooter if you were to buy a 23mm for Fuji, would you pick this or their F2?
This Viltrox is my own copy, so I chose the Viltrox over Fuji.
Thanks for this review! When changing the aperture during video recording, is the change in exposure smooth? (considering the click-less ring)
You're welcome! Unfortunately no, it is not smooth.
@@TheHybridShooter Thanks for your reply! It is a shame; what about the Sony 24mm f/1.4 G Master (when de-clicked) on the A7III? I'm sorry if you've already addressed it in another video in the past.
That one has smooth aperture changing.
Thanks for making this review! When you say ‘New version’, do you mean there is a new physical version of the 23 1.4 or do you mean it as in the same original version, but with a firmware update? Thanks
It is a physically different lens, but the changes should only be the white letters and the shape that won't damage X-Pro 3.
for all round photography ,would you recommend this lens? i confuse to choose between this or the 18-55mm f2.8-4 kit lens or this lens,,
Those are completely different types of lenses, so that depends on your priorities.
I’m sold!
How are you liking the xt4? once the video started I knew your voice instantly. Hard to leave M43
I like a lot, it is one of my favorite cameras.
Hey!
How good the video afc in x-t4? I have x-h1 and 18-55 and the video afc is so bad hunting and pulses a lot.so x-t4 have this issue?
It is is shown in my X-T4 videos, for example in this one - ruclips.net/video/xcndnKHx7us/видео.html
Hello i recently buy the xt4 with 16-88mm F4, but i want a portrait lens, did you recommend 23 mm 1.4 of viltrox for this?
Depends on the focal length that you prefer. I would probably recommend 33mm or 56mm version for portraits.
Are the aperture blades changed electronically? or when you move the aperture ring?
Electronically.
I like your videos but really wish you did low light shots. Especially with lenses with lower aperture. I just ordered this and get it tomorrow. What is the difference between this version and the one with the yellow text? Also I own the 16-55 f2.8 which I have seen you do a review on. Is this lens as good on autofocus and.is there any hunting?
Do you really happy with your sigma 24-70.? feel heavy on gimbal ?
Yes, I am, but I don't use it on a gimbal.
Nice video. I shoot a lot of watches...and looking for a lens that can manage that. My setup is a Fuji XE3 and the 35mm f2.0 xf wr...and a macro extension tube by meike. Came about this video cause I like street photography also and 23mm(35 equivalent) is something that I think I need. What are you advise? Thanks in advance
I can't recommend any 23mm X-mount lens for that. Minimal focus distance and close-up quality ony all 3 is not suitable for that.
@@TheHybridShooter thanks for the feedback...maybe a aftermarket macro lens?
@@love4watches_pt765 I am not aware of any.
Damn this lens is nice
Why does the lens in your amazon link look different to the one you used? (gold text vs black and white text) Are they different models? One newer than the other?
They told me that they ship the new version, they just haven’t changed the product images yet.
@@TheHybridShooter So just to confirm, the newer version has the plain white text? I love the lens in your video better than the one with gold letters haha. Thank you for making this video!
How do we know to differentiate the new version and old version?
color and font of the text on the lens.
Are they now just shipping out this new version ? I just ordered this lens on Amazon but notice the photos are of version 1.
According to the seller, they ship the new version.
@@TheHybridShooter oh! Thanks for the response.
Your video AF seems smoother than mine. I have the gold Viltrox logo version. Do you know if they have updated the AF system at all with the new version? Is it just a font / text color change? Thanks
Yes, they have, make sure that you have FW 1.0.7 on lens and latest fw on your camera.
@@TheHybridShooter My lens is on 1.07 and my XT3 firmware is current. My copy focuses very fast, but in video autofocus it is either super fast, or when I try to slow the autofocus down, it gets very jerky. If the new version of the lens performs differently, I would much rather have the new version as smooth autofocus is important to me and your copy looks like it does a much better job than my copy. Maybe I'll need to order the new version and hope I get better results. Thanks for the reply!
I don't know if there are differences. There may also be differences between AF on X-T3 and X-T4.
@@TheHybridShooter True. I messaged Viltrox and their response was that the only changes to the white text was compatibility with Xpro3. They also said engineers are still working on another firmware for smoother AF in the future. Your video was great, it just caught me off guard how much smoother your focus changes were. If it isn't too much trouble, do you mind me asking what speed your focus speed was set to? I'm going to try and replicate your speed and send a video to Viltrox showing them how mine works, in hopes firmware can continue to improve. Thanks!
All of my focus tests with X-T4 are with default speed / responsiveness settings and single point area settings.
Good information
nice explanation
Thank you!
hey man, thanks for this review. I tried the Vitrox lens before but the change of focus was not smooth, but when I looked at your video 06:58, the shift in focus seem to be very smooth? How did you do that? Coz when I check other video, like this one, it looks awful. ruclips.net/video/ikYE2H4Kb1E/видео.html
cheers.
This is an older video but your raw images seem garbled. I'm not sure if Lightroom supports demosaicing of X-Trans raw images. Can you try if the pictures look significantly clearer if you use Fujifilm X RAW Studio instead of Lightroom? The odd artefacting on zoomed in text makes me feel like the demosaicing algo used is not correct in these comparisons.
Lightroom Classic is the most common RAW developer, so my "rule" is that it has to perform in Lightroom, I am not trying other types of software. That is as much detail as a 26 MP sensor can capture on this scene and keep in mind that this is 300% zoom after YT compression. This scene is meant for 40+ MP sensors, where these artifacts are not an issue even after compression.
what's the difference between the old and new version?
As far as I know, only the text color / font.
Thank you for the review, however, the link provided is for the first lens version...
According to the shop, they ship the second version, just the images are for the first version.
@@TheHybridShooter ok thank you. But the price of the new version is $329 and the link is $296. I don't see anything in the description saying its the V2.
This is definitely the new version amzn.to/32rbTGk so you can order it from there to be safe.
I also have the XT-4 and was wondering if you had experienced any of the mount damage that folks are reporting on the X-pro3 from this lens?
No, this updated version is also fine to use with X-Pro 3.
The Hybrid Shooter thank you!
What the difference between 23mm and 56mm sir?
Mainly the field of view.
Waiting for the Fringer Pro ii Adapter + Sigma 18-35mm Review 😆
That is currency not on the schedule.
@@hugofranca8568 thanks for the info!
Do you notice any problem with the aperture blades? They causes some squeaky noise when the light is shifted and so , causes some delay in focus?
No, I haven't noticed any issues.
@@TheHybridShooter oh my copy of this lens works just fine in a stable light environment. but the the aperture blades causes some noise when the light is changing ( like when pointing the camera to the window with sunlight comes in, then point it back to the normal light area). do you think that is a technical error?
@@hieuhd93 What camera do you have and FW versions do you have on the camera and lens?
@@TheHybridShooter I am using X-T20 and Viltrox 23mm (new version like you), both with latest FW .
That one has older AF system, so I can't tell you much about that. Try using constant preview, that might help.
better this or fuji xf 23 f2 ?
Fuji is a little sharper, this gives you F1.4. I would go with this one.
@@TheHybridShooter thanks
KRTEK!
Third party, fast 35mm full frame equivalent lens on Fuji? ... urge to switch from Sony... rising...
I saw a lot of colour fringing
I have talked about that in video.
