The steam deck, since it's inception, has been, by far, the most fun device I've played with in years. It alone was responsible for my move away from windows to linux.
Thought I was subscribed... Your little mid-cast reminder made me ensure I was.
I love your content, especially your Steam input videos. I wish more people would work with Steam input as it's an absolute game changer. Favorite controller is still the Steam Controller, I just need Valve to make a Steam Controller 2 based on the Deck.
Keep up the amazing work, content like yours, Russ and the rest of the team are an inspiration!
It's so weird more people don't talk about Steam input. His videos got me started and now it's just amazing. Was messing around with it in Mortal Kombat for Sega Genesis and was able to create combos using 1 button, even the fatalities.
"Soylent Green is People!" lol, I thought the same thing when your promo started! I just picked up Black Mesa on sale for 3.99, looking forward to playing it. I could not get the System Shock demo to work on my Deck, get an error about the EXE not being found (and when tapping download it took less than 3 seconds which indicates that it wasn't really downloading anything - weird), looks like the Metro bundle is now $9 which still isn't bad, will definitely check it out. As always thanks for doing the video, very informative!
Not sure how you do it, but your production quality just keeps getting better and better. Love the look of this video! And the content is pretty good too. :) Keep up the awesome work, Bill!
i couldnt get the benchmark to run for me via proton...
the script is a miracle thanks a ton
@NerdNest I loved Soylent for years but PLEASE make sure you drink water along with it. I ended up getting galstones drinking it due to the high sodium levels. But that was partially my fault for not drinking enough water along with it. Just wanted to put that out there! Enjoy!
Drank Soylent in powder then liquid form in large quantities for over 5 yrs. I will point out while there is no solid scientific backing; as a man, large amounts of soy had affected me negatively while consuming temporarily. It's why I switched to Huel.
This a joke or no? How did it affect you negatively?
@@trickysphinx Things related to low levels of testosterone. Not a joke.
@@arnold790609 lmao zero scientific evidence to back this up
Why would anyone consume something named after soylent green?
Glad you mentioned the benchmark, I usually follow the discord but missed that thread. My Linux install runs a touch slower than my Windows install on the same hardware on my desktop, but it looks way better and ran way smoother, much like the game itself does for me. Also looks like the deck is going to hold up just fine. And with a proper FSR implementation in the game it looks like it'll do even a bit better.
Ive played thru back mesa on deck. Its been running great already until yoi get to the portal area towards the end of the game, which constantly crashes to single digits. Would be interesting to see if that area runs better now. Also I did play it with gyro aiming hybrid sticks type of setup. It worked great once I figured it out and the finer aiming control using long range weapons was essentially impossible without it, just using spray and pray method only gets you so far.
Thank you for the info on black mesa! Perfect time to pick it up right now 😀
I got my deck last December, I'm completely in love. I use it a lot at work, hell I'm playing on it as we speak lol. Fire Emblem Three Houses!
Excited for Dawntrail on my steamdeck. I've been using it a lot for Endwalker, even when I'm at home and my PC is RIGHT THERE. It just feels more relaxing to play on handheld.
what settings do you use and what kind of performance do you get? the performance is pretty shaky for me even in fairly early game
It plays well enough for me on standard (laptop) settings with other player effects turned to minimal, but playing on WiFi introduces a noticeable lag on dodging mechanics that I have trouble compensating for. I also have yet to find a comfortable way to press dpad inputs while moving, although I'm impressed they thought to add dpad emulation to the trackpad that expressly forbids being able to hit two directions at once.
@@dorf7219 really? i recently turned my settings down to standard laptop for more battery but i was running at 45 fps (you couuuuld do 60 but it may dip a bit depends) consistently with no problems
Mine is 60 fps from ffxiv launcher, no worries
The way you said Tsushima as opposed to how the other person said it's pronounced is the right way. You said it perfectly. I always love your vids and your streams give me life while I'm at work and they're always entertaining. I'm def gonna have to peep the metro sale though because I loved last light and exodus is a lot of fun on console. Since I've moved my gaming from console to the steam deck, this is usually one of the channels I go to for all my steam deck content 😁
Also I really hope we get TMNT Splintered Fate on steam deck too because it looked so fun and 100% something I'd love to play
His streams "give you life"... hahaha God Damn dude, keep it in your pants, this is a family channel!
@@RL_Stine_88 I've never heard it used like that ever 🤣🤣🤣 but...fuck it it be like that sometimes
When I saw that Black Mesa was updated, I redownloaded it so I can continue my playthrough as I found the input lag under proton to be too much for me beforehand.
I deleted it after having the game reset any changes I made to the config to the default one. Apparently it's most likely due to a bug that susceptible to valve (or games on their engine(s)) that uses steam input where when switching between action sets, it gets confused and resets to the default one.
I really wanted to continue the remake after having such a good time with the original on Deck, but I guess that'll have to wait.
Bill says: you are awesome. No Bill, you are
Really looking forward to Ghost!
Thanks for your content my guy. Always enjoy it
What laptop/notebook do you use?
Another great video! Regarding the benchmark you conducted, Bill, it's important to note that your laptop processed it at a resolution of 2560x1600-not 1440 (at least that's what your screen says in the video). This resolution is over four times the number of pixels compared to the 720p resolution used by the handheld devices. Consequently, your laptop is approximately eight times faster than the handhelds based on the scores. So there's a huge gap in power between your laptop and de handhelds. Additionally, it's interesting to note hat the RTX 4080 mobile GPU used in that laptop does not match the performance of a true desktop RTX 4080 (by a long shot); it's actually slower than a desktop RTX 3080. (For context, a PS5 has about the power of an RTX 3060/3060ti, so still a pretty powerfull laptop)
Oh, I mispoke, it was indeed 2560x1600
@@NerdNest No worries, it's just a small thing. You have so many things to say, little mistakes like that are bound to happen sometimes haha. I enjoyed the video a lot.
Holy cow, do you have any idea how good the over 50% of viewers are subscribed is!?
It was lower, then recently I started mentioning it and the number went up.
Oh wow I just bought Black Mesa this week on Steam Deck because it was on sale. Didn’t know about the update until I watched your video. Thanks for the info.
Looking to purchase a deck for final fantasy 14. Subbed showed me that it can play on deck all I need to know thank you for comparing between pc and laptops to have an idea where the deck sits
Interesting you mentioned always using Vulcan if playing on Steam Deck, if the option is there. I was recently playing Hades on the deck, and it performed way worse using Vulcan. It was definitely less smooth (playing at 60 fps) - is this just me? Or is Vulcan not always the best option?
A Steam Duck jumping through Hopes!! 😂
Never got into ff14, the beginning feels like a chore for a new player
They don't put their best foot forward that's for sure.
@@NerdNestyea, and I’m in my late 30s, I don’t have 100+ hours to get through the tutorial/ till it “gets good”.
It's good from the beginning, but you have to play it like a Story game, not like a typical MMO where you just follow an arrow to the next quest. Way more fun that way.
Why is volcán better? When I selected hades it popped up as a question
Great beard dude!
You’re definitely right. I put all the games that looked interesting in the Nintendo Direct on my Steam Wishlist so I can play them on my Steam Deck. Solid coverage as always man!
Exited for Black Mesa remastered!
@17:23
"I feel like I almost never boot up my Switch anymore, (Should have jist stopped the sentence right there LoL!) Unless I am playing something first party."
I don't pirate Switch games. I play them on the Switch
I just wish it was more convenient to emulate my physical Switch carts on the Steam Deck and ditch the Switch device. Seems a waste to have two separate devices when the Deck can pretty much do it all.
Did you see fallout on gfn? Streaming on deck is getting better and better every week.
Gfn??
So.. It's only been about a week since I bought mine.. and tbh the majority of that time has been spent installing a new ssd and installing games for DAYS! :P but I've already got my jsaux dock and an m.2 to go in it.. the SteamDuck is Definitely the closest thing to a console that I've ever loved! and man do I love it! Yes the Legion Go and the Ally can get a little closer to the graphical fedelity that our serious gaming rigs deliver on the regular, but the SteamDuck delivers just enough to make the games playable and fun while giving more battery life and an overall awesome experience! Couldn't recommend the SteamDuck enough! If you're thinking you may like one... YOU WILL!
I bought black mesa tried to play it and antivirus flagged up and deleted the exe.
So hyped for SteamWorld Heist 2! Loved the first one!
I hope the next steam deck can handle some games in medium settings...battery isn't really a problem with the oled but I personally notice the low graphics and any higher than low in most newer games trashes frame rates
I only have $10 should I get Metro Exodus or Splinter Cell Blacklist? Also LA Noire did the B&W filter as well call detective mode.
I read the thumbnail in Charlie Sheen’s voice.
OMFG, they've got a bottle of Soylent that's Green! Life imitating art!
Just subbed! Been watching for a while but realized (sorry about that) that I wasn’t! Love your vids and the positive environment you create sir! Keep it up!
I'm currently on free trial on FFXIV playing on Steam Deck, it it's like the game is made for this console! And I'm not even playing the Steam version. Yes you have to use another launcher as a non-Steam game. But it still runs perfectly.
It's running great atm on my Deck Oled, locked 40 fps in pretty much all content :)
You should probably lock the FPS to 45 if it is possible. The steam deck OLED has a screen that hits 90 Hertz so to make it evenly divisible, 45 would be the best frame rate
I’m craving for steam duck w rice right now 😂
Any chance we can put our heads together and work on getting pubg runnung ?
@NerdNest the ps5 runs "FreeBSD", on AMD hw so shouldn't it be way more "easy" to create great performing Linux ports, instead mehhhh windows ports? That would be so awesome for the SDeck / steam / Linux ecosystem would definitely help to gain even more traction.
Way more customers on Windows.
@@NerdNest thats for sure
I'm so impressed with the Sream Deck, that I think I'll definitely be up for a more powerful Steam Deck 2 down the line. Absolutely amazing device.
Yeah I agree Yars stood out as looking the roughest out of all the stuff shown. Definitely not up to Wayforward’s standards yet
Ah! Soylent green?!?! Oh, you touch on that... 🤣
First thing I thought of as well . . .
You'd think they'd choose a better name for their product!
They're leaning into it. It's made from Soy, its funny.
Mine came with tiger blood
Metro saga is phenomenal on the deck. All three of them. They are great games.
going to buy the deck next year!
Buy the OLED Steam Deck when you do for the battery life alone!!
@@RL_Stine_88 yea I have been saving for a couple months I think I will be able to afford one at the end of this year
In my case, I disagree with the idea that playing indie games on switch is a downgrade when compared to steam deck. I have grip controllers on switch which makes it way more comfortable than steam deck. And most of the time, unless I manually make some changes on the settings on steamdeck power etc, I get better battery life on switch. And performance wise, for indie games with 2d graphics there is no noticeable difference between the two devices.
Steam Duck accidentally leaked 😂 6:44
FF14 has worked on my steam deck every time I've tried it over the past couple of months. Usually I play on PC though.
Japanese doesn't have a well-defined stress pattern, so both you and the other guy are correct with your pronunciations of "Tsushima."
I would say Japanese tends not to stress syllables in general, which makes the common pronunciation sound anglicized, but it’s also perfectly normal for people to speak foreign words with an accent.
FFXIV works perfectly if you have it through Steam. You only need the workarounds and get problems from updates if you don’t have it on Steam.
Will Ghost of Tsushima participate in Steam Summer Sale??
17:25 Not even then anymore. I Emulate most of them on the Deck. I only have it so I can rip the Roms.
Sorry, no matter how hard you try to convince me, Soylent will always be people to me.
The more people push it the more I believe it's people.
benchmarks mean nothing unless its at native resolution.
Yeah we can tell you enjoy soylent 😂
Soy Boi!! 😂
agree with you, i wil never buy any more indies from switch store
Soylent boy
I can't play PlayStation games even on my PC, cause in my country we don't have PSN. Great work Sony!
I love Soylent (Green) people are so tasty...
Mmmm makes me soilent my pants... sometimes it's green... sometimes people find it yummy! 😂
ff14 is great on the steam deck.
GO > steam deck
Wait, so Nintendo, can slap all their characters in different type format games every year, and you love that, but Atari can't try something new with one of their IP's? Come on! And maybe the gameplay was sluggish and off, because was it running on the Switch? Let's see what performance will be like on the Steam Deck, when it drops later this Yar.
I'm 99% sure that this game will run at similar frame rates on the Steam Deck and Switch, and it will be slow, because that looked like a design choice to me, not underpowered hardware.
@@NerdNest That's a bold statement. However, I don't see this game doing more than 30fps on Switch, and mostly 60fps on the Steam Deck. Just check out the requirements on the Steam page. Minimum is a GTX 770 or RX 570. Kinda heavy for this type of game.
Ahhh screw PlayStation. I lost all my games and profile and wouldn’t give it back to me.
Seems like PlayStation screwed you 😂, but in all seriousness that sucks.
Its people! Haha
people flave 😮😅
I was honestly disappointed with Black Mesa when I played on Steam Deck last year, because it ran badly on proton (it runs decently wit proton GE). Valve loves Linux, and Half Life was made by Valve. So it would make sense for Crowbar Collective to make Black Mesa run well on Linux. Well, after 4 years, now it finally does.
After DD2 is out and my steam deck can't play it and That is the time I think steam deck is outdated and bought Rog ally extreme it is so much better.
Somebody could sell this guy salt water by the ocean ☝️
@@veggiebroth5542 can't take opinions guess you need that salt🤣🤣🤣
what did it win, less strength than go and ally????
WOKKA WOKKA WOKKA
Better battery, OLED, better comfort, better OS, I can go on and on
It's extremely comfortable, versatile with different control figurations, and the OS is absolutely magnificentn- very close to console experience. Steam Deck has also down to be very well supported via software enhancements and proton fixes.
