I must say I am bit disappointed with this episode. This felt more like a summary of succession than an actual analysis of wealth on TV. You start by posing the question, "How true to life are these portrayals, really? And how do these narratives shape our perception of the wealthy?" & all you really do is walk us through the most common tropes. The section "ultra rich lifestyle on screen vs television" only points out that really wealthy people tend to keep their luxury quiet - something anyone who opened Instagram or TikTok in the past 12 months could have told you as well. This did not seem en par with your usual content. I feel like you could have gotten a lot more in depth here.
I feel like the most realistic billionaires are the VIPs from Squid Game and Isherwell from Don't Look Up. I saw a breakdown somewhere but let's put it this way: The most expensive hotel room in the world is the Empathy Suite at the Palms Casino Resort, at $100,000 a night. If you had a billion dollars, you'd have to stay in that suite for 100 consecutive days to feel like you've spent a penny.
forget movie and tv depictions. social media will make you feel like 10x more people are living the 1% lifestyle. I realise the more one flaunts their wealth, is usually when that person is feeling things are going downhill, and that the flaunting is to help cope with the drop in self confidence. I had a friend who would regularly buy up the most expensive sports watches. His collection is worth 7 figures. One day I see in the news that his family is declaring bankruptcy, and the guy has no longer made a single post on social media again.
Monica is rich lol. Just look at the wrapped punch bowl which is so big and takes up so much space. In a normal house you have to think about where would every thing go w/t taking so much space.
A year not a month. If you were making that much a month your wealth would likely be in the 7-8 digits. As for making 100k a year though and living paycheck to paycheck, its not strange or even due to expensive lifestyles. I am not living paycheck to paycheck but making that much in one of the most expensive states in the USA, i can tell you its hard to save a lot. You can easily end up broke if youre not minding every dollar, constantly.
Full disclosure as I haven't finished this video yet, but Big Little Lies features wealthy people living in northern California and she is in that show.
Puhleeze stop saying that $100K a year is a good income. That’s quite marginal, especially when compared to people who already own 8-10 figures and make 7-9 figures a year just being rich.
I felt that way mostly about Nate Archibald in Gossip Girl. He was genuinely a nice guy who happened to be rich. Sure he made mistakes (he's a teenager) but I remember several times Dan tried to make him like a bad person just things worked out for him cause he's a kind and charming
Well, you dont get rich by being a good person, generally. You get rich by lying, cheating and exploiting the rules and the people. So if youre talking about 'self-made millionaires' then they honestly can all get bent. If youre talking about old money then how can you hold on to millions or billions when there is such suffering in the world? They are propping up the very system (capitalism) that is destroying the working class and the planet. So while they might not be movie villain eviu they are at least apathetic which is still shitty

Which god? The supposedly omnipresent/omnipotent and all benevolent one that lets his name be used by evil people to commit atrocities even though he could stop it if he wanted it? Ever heard of the saying 'there's no hate like Christian love'? Im sure similar sayings exist for islam and judaism as well, and it doesnt come from nowhere. Religion has been used to commit millions of horrific crimes and cruelties and if god existed you have to agree that he either doesnt *know* it happens or cant stop i (which would make him not omnipresent/omnipotent) or he knows it happens and could stop it but won't (which would make him not all benevolent) or both. To claim that 'gods currency is love' when every day innocent people are killed in the name of god is honestly vile, sorry
This is really aburd! No sane person will believe, that tv shows and movies portrey ultra rich in a precise way. Yes, a lot of super rich will have terrible personality, but also many many common people have terrible personality as well, so an attemp to attack wealthy group of people is nonsense and pointless. There is only one and the only reason, why anybody would atttack ultra rich and the reason is ENVY. Most people can´t grasp the idea, that only so few people are so good with money and know, how to get at the top. Well, it is the common person problem, that he or she is not good with money and is dumb, no one else´s. No wonder, that 1% of super rich can´t spend their time with common people and must be isolated. Because if not, common people would try to destroy their success and lifes. And why? Again, because most common people are super dumb and envy, thinking, that life is not fair to them. Well, it is fair! Peole are dumb and don´t do antyhing to improve their life, so they must stay ordinary. Anything difficult to understand about it? It is not, it is very simple and fair. It is the natural law of our planet. And other thing is that showing envy to someone has no dignity and at that very moment you became an ultimate looser proving this idea, that common people are indeed super dumb and vain.
And what about those born into wealth? They absolutely did NOTHING to acquire that position. Pure luck. And there are people born into wealth who actually think they achieved something by being born. Most people don't hate the wealthy. But a lot of people hate people who use their wealth (or wealthy status) to mock or be cruel to those who are NOT wealthy
I love rich people. They don’t have a scarcity mindset. They don’t think in lack. They live in abundance! They operate on a frequency so they can live out their dreams. I feel it’s a jealousy thing. Because why are you mad at them? Why can’t you be intelligent enough to create your reality? I now understand the hate of well off individuals. It’s demonic.
Because theyre killing the planet and exploiting people maybe? I dont want to be rich, i just want the rich to not constantly try to get richer and richer by any means necessary and stop fucking literally everybody else over in the process. Capitalism is a deadly drug and we are all addicts.
What a crazy way to deflect the very real problems with being so rich. You are the demonic one. Likening being a good/successful human with being “rich”..😒
Wealthy doesn't equal intelligence. A LOT of people are born into wealth. A LOT of wealthy people are born on third and act like they hit a triple. People are people. Wealthy assholes are just as horrible as poor assholes

Gossip GGoirl is the epitome of the show showing oppulence and also making them look human and how they view rest of the world. i loved it.
Another good example in midia is Ryan's Murphy show The Politician
I don't care about the ultra rich people's feelings "Kim there's people dying". Literally
This is one of the best depictions
12:45 THE OG RICH B***H. Jessica Walters, such an icon.
I feel like the most realistic billionaires are the VIPs from Squid Game and Isherwell from Don't Look Up. They're totally removed from reality and, most importantly, think they're a lot smarter and cleverer than they actually are. Just a bunch of deranged losers who see themselves as visionaries while laughing at 69 jokes and acting like creeps to everyone around them.
when is The Take going to make a video about Arrested Development?!!
Christ, another 'poor little rich girl' video... hoping there will be a nice, chunky series on the lack of/wrongful depictions of the poor/poverty/working class- and why these people are of so little focus. Make sure you include some joy and reality if you do though, as we're not all Dickensian or 'hillbillies'! See Lois (Malcolm in the Middle; On My Block; Connell (Normal People); Derry Girls; Atlanta.
What about the McCallisters in Home Alone? How the heck can they afford their huge house?
Mom is a fashion designer and dad is a businessman. Theory is that works for the mob or is a mob attorney. I think all the
brothers come from a wealthy though Uncle Rob had multiple residences and paid for the family to go to Paris.
I think that (first) movie came out before the housing crisis, back when we still had a middle class, home loans were handed out like fake $100 bills, and the wages vs cost of living scale wasn't *quite* as unbalanced as it is now.
Kevin's father is a policeman who sells informations to Tony Soprano...
I love this channel
I do enjoy escaping to another world by watching shows about the rich. I like it when the characters aren’t all bad then just evil
the only feeling I have when watching succession, downton abbey wolf of wall st etc is anger that we are ruled by sociopaths and we should take their stuff and throw them in jail.
Most of them inherited the wealth. Never worked a day in their lives.
I'm poor, but at least I know what little I have I got myself, amarite?!? 😬
3:49 I was just going to mention this.
It s not much of a revelation. My family is escaping the Forbes list ever since, and yet we live a pretty sorrowless life.
It is super fun to watch the wealthy on the big screen. but overall it just sounds like stressful life after a certain point
This is why i didn't like White Lotus, found it was just about rich ppl's problems, and zero relatibility. I still don't understand why ppl watch it, maybe the aesthetic
That’s not what it’s about. Especially the first season, but both seasons. It fully shows how middle and working class people are exploited by these rich idiots. Also shows how so many of the rich idiots aren’t as rich as they pretend to be.
The first season was a MASTERCLASS in strata dynamics. Devastating.
Not everything is meant to be relatable and just because it's not relatable to you doesn't mean it's not relatable to other people
@@KatyloveheartI've always said this always. Anytime a Disney movie or a new movie comes out and I look at reviews about it, there's always people that complain that it's not relatable and I always say that not everything is meant to cater to everyone and that's fine 😅
What are the movies in this video?
I saw a breakdown somewhere but let's put it this way:
The most expensive hotel room in the world is the Empathy Suite at the Palms Casino Resort, at $100,000 a night.
McAllister were so rich! Kevin's parents come from some serious money.
Monica is rich lol. Just look at the wrapped punch bowl which is so big and takes up so much space. In a normal house you have to think about where would every thing go w/t taking so much space.
Pay cheque to pay cheque on £100,000 a month!!! That would take me 8 years to gain (if I spend absolutely nothing)
Shepherd's Chapel Network !!!!!!! Chapter by Chapter / Verse by Verse !!!!!!! Amen
12:46 - Which movie is it?
What is this Laura dern movie or show they keep showing
Full disclosure as I haven't finished this video yet, but Big Little Lies features wealthy people living in northern California and she is in that show.
I couldn't watch Crazy Rich Asians. Non existent story, completely reliant on materialism to attract shallow little girls.
Nothing like Wealthy People in the Media Discourse.
I find these movies dull as all hell because they're too many of them.
First world problems…
More like fantasy la la land problems
Puhleeze stop saying that $100K a year is a good income. That’s quite marginal, especially when compared to people who already own 8-10 figures and make 7-9 figures a year just being rich.
Hey
Hey 👽
Only issue i have, is when they constantly try to make a wealthy person the bad guy just because they have money
I felt that way mostly about Nate Archibald in Gossip Girl. He was genuinely a nice guy who happened to be rich. Sure he made mistakes (he's a teenager) but I remember several times Dan tried to make him like a bad person just things worked out for him cause he's a kind and charming
I like your profile pic because it looks like a little hair on my screen when I scroll
They are all the bad person. The average billionaire has more blood on their hands than the Nazis
@@letrailhall-nance9189looking at Gossip girl as a whole though, didn’t the overall story make the poor people the villains? Vanessa, Jenny, Dan…the poorer characters are portrayed as the villains of the show.
2:48
its all part of the propoganda
There are two forms of currency in this world: God's currency is Love, Man's currency is money.
god killed an awful lot of people in the bible for all kinds of reasons. That doesn't seem like love to me.
Thank you for this
Is Jeff Bezos girlfriend a guy?😂
Wow.
What a crazy way to deflect the very real problems with being so rich. You are the demonic one. Likening being a good/successful human with being “rich”..😒
Well said agreed ❤
Wealthy doesn't equal intelligence. A LOT of people are born into wealth.
A LOT of wealthy people are born on third and act like they hit a triple.
People are people. Wealthy assholes are just as horrible as poor assholes
Elon Musk is homeless! He lives in his offices! A judge canceled his 2018 compensation plan which was 25% of this net worth!😮
Musk salary from 2018 to present is $1.00 a year!😂
Musk inherited money from his dad's blood emerald empire
Best Quote: Swaying Elections? Biden comes to mind!
Poor people are very evil people we rich people know that for a fact.
Why do you say that?
Genuinely curious

You literally just spoiled the ending of Succession. Come on guy. Put a disclaimer at the start of the video next time. JC.
