1. Veyle. She grew on me immediately when I played, and I even at first thought she would become a party member sooner than she did, but she immediately went and proved herself useful. And then you give her Soren and click "Engage" and then just watch as everything around her gets crit
2. Kagetsu. My favorite guy, he's just wholesome and he crits. A lot.
3: Alcryst. He spiritually represents me (introverted and socially awkward)
4: Hortensia. Best healer hands down. And she can pack a little punch as well, but mainly just put Elfire and 4 staves on her and she'll be fine.
5: Alear. Basic, I know, but hear me out. They can DESTROY enemies and even get solid range (Wille Glanz) later on.
6: Anna. She can do whatever you want, having some of the vastest reclass options out of any character. Also free gold sometimes :D
7: Timerra. 1 word: Sandstorm. Need I say more?
8: Mauvier. Honestly another wholesome guy who can hit like a 5-ton semitruck and then heal your team.
9: Céline. You can imagine how I used her with Celica when she joined the party. Yes, I Warp Ragnaroked a lot. And then she gains Sword proficiencies and Ignis and then enemies suddenly cease existing left and right.
10: Rafal & Nel (a tie, suprising). They both pull their weight and have personal skills that benefit when they're both on the field at once.
Great video, we definitely share quite a few favorites, though my number 1 in terms of personality has to be Goldmary. I initially failed to find a spot for her on my roster despite loving her design, but after Etie (another one of my favorites) randomly got a Support with her through the Area, I ended up loving Goldmary so much I just HAD to put her on my team. The Goldmary-Etie Support is my favorite in the whole game. I actually really like a lot of the Firenese units, and was happy to see Alfred make your list. His infectious positivity and uplifting wholesomeness actually really reminded me of Kaito from Danganronpa v3 - and that was BEFORE I hit me that these two characters both also have a really dark secret in common.
Okay Kaito was my favorite character from V3 so I'm happy you just pointed out that parallel between him and Alfred lol
But aside from that also nice to hear more people liked Goldmary and Etie!
Oh shit I never thought about the Kaito/Alfred connection before! I have a really big soft spot for both of them so it makes sense
Glad to see my anxious prince, the Pan siblings, and the girl fail queen Ivy make the list, they’re all easily some of my faves. Great list!

From the DLC I think that the Gregory and Madeline are quile likable. Gregory is the bravest character of the game, since he seems to be the most fearful of fighting but still overcomes his fears to help his friends. Madeline wants to be a great knight like her teacher Mauvier, she follows some kind of "knight code of honor". What makes her interesting is how as a 16 years old teen (who has the concerns someone of her age should have) she struggles to live up to the expectations she has forced on herself putting aside what she might want to do what the ideal version of herself should do. (Also her supports with Veyle and Mauvier are great).
Oh they're both great especially in their supports with Mauvier, if the dlc was out before I started working on this video I definitely would have considered them

Yeah.... I found myself really liking most of the DLC Units. Also edited my 11th placer if Alear dosen't count.
Not gonna lie the dlc characters do seem great, haven't played it yet but have seen some of their supports already. Maybe a few of them could have made it somewhere lower on the list.
And Alaer was considered for the list, her development in the story was pretty decent and I ended up liking her more than I thought
If we're talking about ise, can we mention kagetsu
Thoughts as I watch:
There is something weirdly endearing about this cast. Like the game is not that good and the story is pretty bad but the characters had a lot of charm. I think a large part of it is the VA, but whatever, it all worked.
I was in fact one of the people who found Goldmary extremely annoying lol. She is my least favorite character in this roster. Sorry girl! VA is VERY good though, I agree.
omg you used Alfred on Maddening... the world's strongest soldier. I actually really like him, he's a sweet kid and as you said he's definitely a himbo. the comparison to Kaito in V3 below is also very apt and his A support with Celine is one of the best in the game, not just for the revelation of his illness and how it's still affecting him but for the absolutely gutwrenching conversation they have at the end about how she struggles to find real happiness and he takes it on for her. also spoilers but man it's some bullshit that he DIES if you don't S-support him????? this is Lysithea but so much worse... also also DLC spoilers but it's really funny when he meets his traumatized AU self and is like "aw man, I'm not muscular in this world either?!" priorities Alfred apgja
Alcryst is a god haha as you will see he is one of my very favorites. I love that he's like a mess but also has really nice supports? like yeah he self-deprecates in a way that's kinda painful and kinda funny but he also has excellent supports overall. the Diamant and Alcryst relationship is one of my favorites in the entire game... they could have easily made that painful but Alcryst's family loves and accepts him exactly how he is and supports him. also yeah giving him the Lyn Emblem was definitely favoring him but holy shit he is a GOD with it. kinda funny how much better he was in battle than Diamant lmao
Yunaka is my fave. I know she's insanely popular but it's for a reason. she's just DELIGHTFUL and actually has some depth to her. her supports are both entertaining and sometimes emotional too. those sparks between her and Seadall, get that hot dancer guy Yunaka!!!!
Zelkov is so funnyyyyy he makes me laugh why does he use random French when he crits!!! you describing him as a theater kid is perfect. the headache medicine support is really funny.
I feel like I cannot get over Pandreo's design apgajg as someone who hates hair in my face I cringe every time I look at him. I do love that he has a wild-ass church, his support with Vander is really funny. also when he makes Alcryst howl, lol. and yes the support with Panette is very good.
Amber is so goofy lmao. I did not use him but I would use the support boosts to get his supports because they always made me laugh. it's even better that he's from Brodia, home of serious knights lol
Etie is fine I feel like I have no opinions about her haha. damn she looks great in that Sniper outfit though. my fave early game unit is definitely Chloe...
Panette... I thought I was going to hate her based on the design but as you said she was nuts!!! she is a freaking god and also has really good supports. I adore the whole thing where Timerra, Panette, and Merrin are all loud, weird, and annoying girls who run around Solm bothering people with their songs lmao
Ivy rocks. just a genius idea to make the big booby fanservice sorceress severely awkward lmao. I really enjoyed her with Hortensia, Diamant, and others.
My top 10:

3. Kagetsu. if you didn't use him on either playthrough, you're really missing out. absolutely insane unit. personality-wise he's like a big golden retriever who just wants to make friends with everyone, and putting him with Ivy and Zelkov a lot of the time is just comedy gold. the Zelkov/Kagetsu A may be my favorite support in the entire game, it is so cuuuute. I married him so he can finally have someone to "quiz"
4. Timerra. see what I said above, and she's just really endearing. I also think the super loud outfit 100% works for her. consider this a Timerra/Panette/Merrin triple ranking.
5. Citrinne. very good mage and more importantly great character. she feels extremely down-to-earth... which is funny considering this is the lady who offers to buy you a private island. she has terrific supports, probably the best overall in the entire game.
6. Ivy
7. Mauvier. I'm sorry this guy just makes me laugh. when your normie uncle gets a part-time job and it's hanging out at Hot Topic with the mean goth teens. also yes, his supports are really good, even if they go back to the redemption well like 5050508 times.
8. Diamant. I think it's impossible to dislike this guy. fantastic character with great supports, I love how he really wanted to be different from his father especially considering how much his father messed things up. surprisingly kinda meh in battle, but I kept using him because I liked him. :B
9. Veyle. another character it is just impossible to dislike. SUCH a sweetie, I just want to give her a big hug. yes I rolled my eyes at some of the plot twists around her, but hey it wasn't HER fault. also spicy food lovers unite :)
10. maybe Zelkov but probably Fogado. best VA in the game, baby. the DLC just made me like him more because holy shit did AU Fogado chill me to the bone.

Kagetsu was pretty much my number 11, absolutely BUSTED unit and the golden retriever comparison is really accurate lol.
Timerra is sadly the royal I used the least, but she definitely seemed interesting and I've seen what she can do with Sandstorm. I like how most of her supports are so goofy but then she's probably the most cunning and cynical out of all the main lords in the story.
Citrinne was okay for me, at first she kind of falls into the early-game-character-trap of repeating one character trait (aka being rich) but she turned out to have a lot of variety and endearing moments. Love it when she gave Alaer a rock as a present xd
That might be the BEST description of Mauvier as a hound I've ever heard. I'm happy one of these sympathetic Fe villains finally joins you, my only problems is that he joins so late and that aside from him redeeming himself he felt a bit basic (love his dlc supports with the alternate hounds though!)
God it hurt me so much that Diamant was an underwhelming unit, he seems like such a cool character otherwise
God Veyle is incredibly cute, I was actually surprised she turned out to be playable but I didn't mind at all. Really sweet how she wants to make up for the actions of her other self.
I admittedly haven't seen much on Fogado either but I likes what I saw from his Pandreo support, and Griss is probably my favourite Hound if we're not looking at paralell universes

5:26 I’m actually the same. Mainly because I can have a bit of a harder time knowing for sure how to feel about certain media, so I try to see what others are saying to help me better understand how I feel about something, though this isn’t always the case and I know you shouldn’t have everything you like be solely based off of what others feel

My personal FE Engage thoughts and opinions for the units
Alear: Basic lord with sword, later on he can use martial arts. He was useful, not the best unit but he gets the job done. I put Tiki Emblem and her stats bonus skill to make him more efficient in general. Decent Crit machine and good for support.
Vander: Jaegen/10, he had his uses but I wasn't impressed to continue with him, a thought that I shared with every single Cavalier in this game.
Clanne: Deku but as a mage, even in his growth rates, IDK why they decided to make him a mage. He's a good kid tho.
Framme: Wouldn't be surprised if people used her a lot since not only she heals but she has a way to attacck via martial arts and chain guard can be useful. Also I love her looks.
Alfred: Another cavalier that was mid to me, only got decent with Sigurd's ring and even then he didn't do that well.
Etie: only used her until I got the other archer unit, then benched her. I can count the times she procced speed or dexterity. Same wth Clanne, why would they put her in this class.
Bouncheron: A FIGHTER THAT DOESN'T PROC STRENGTH OR OTHER STATS IN GENERAL ALMOST AT ALL, WHY DO I EVEN BOTHER WITH YOU.
Céline: Not gonna lie, she carried the first half of the game for me.
I needed a decent made user and with the Celica Ring she was more than enough for me. Dropped her in the later half because I was busy with other units and she got a bit left behind. In any case I have enjoyed using her and her good crits.
Chloé: THIS WOMAN IS A GODDESS INCARNATE. Sure, pegs may start weak but with a tiny help she does her job crazy well. She can also become a mixed Phys/Magic unit given her stats. Helped me carrying the game A LOT, either with Tiki, Camilla or Sigurd.
Louis: An immovable object that can also dish damage if needed.
Engage helped a lot armored units by giving them immunity to Break so they can wall almost any physical threat. I also like his personality. Hector was his main ring and he was THE HECTANK.
Jean: This little kid is how you do Trainees, his personal skill double his growth rates, add to that the Tiki skill that also doubles growth rates and he can almost become anything. I made him a high priest since I needed a healer with some magic, later on he became a Siege tome master with Soren. Proud of him.
Yunaka: TBH she didn't Hiya Papaya'd the entire game but she did what thieves do, being a dodge tank, open doors and sometimes crit thanks to her personal skill. Still fun to use with Corrin.
Anna: Prob my own personal error since I tried to change class in mage before promoting so she was behind in performance. Still why the f would make a unit that procs magic put her in a strength based class anyway.......
Alcryst: My boy, prob my personal favorite unit to use. He can promote right off the bat and once he learns Luna he's kinda set.
He crits, he Luna Crits. With Lyn whenever I needed to delete a unit from a distance he did it with no problems.
Lapis: Fun personality wise but she comes right before another sword unit that can be a bit appealing and some chapters before the best sword unit in the game......... sorry Lapis.......
Citrinne: One trick pony with magic, supposedly with a specific Bond ring she can double people with Thunder but it requires too much RNG to get that ring. She was useful for the chapters I was using her but she became bench material soon.
Diamant: EHHHHH/10 at least he can use axes when promoted, too low skill stats to be super useful. Pretty much like Citrinne, only used him when needed then he got benched.
Amber: Another cav, another bench. Nothing more.
Jade: Like her ponytail, a bit less defensive than Louis, tried to use her but I wasn't feeling it.
Ivy: Cringefail wife best wife. I used Lyn on her for a while to make her ok speed less of a problem and then put a speed increas skill on her once I changed Lyn for Veronica that covered her low luck. One of my MVPs for sure. Also fun personality.
Kagetsu: It's Kagetsu, put him in any attack role and he does his magic. Nothing more to say.
Zelkov: Yunaka minus her personal skill, not feeling it, TO THE BENCH WITH YOU.
Fogado: Tried a level up before promotion, he only got two stats. Tried a level up after promotion, same two stats. BENCHWARMER.
Pandreo: Sorry, you're too late for me, already got a High priest or enough healers in general.
Bunet: He's the best cook but he's also a Cav. Never used him after his debut.
Timerra: OH LOOK, ANOTHER LANCE USER WHEN I GOT A FUCK TON OF THEM ALREADY. Seriously, there's too many lance users in this game....... Also her debut chapter doesn's help her a lot.
Merrin: I kinda tried to use her a bit and she was ok but like other cav units (even tough she was riding a horse) she got benched.
Panette: Haha Berserker crit rates go BRRRRRRR. Seriously tho, she and Ike were the perfect pair for EXTREME PAIN AND ENEMY SUFFERING. Also I love the way she talks (thanks italian localization that gave her even more lady mannerisms). Another personal favorite.
Hortensia: Mostly a staff/rally bot but she got some moments of action. She's fine I guess. Flying healer is a nice thing to have. Not terrible but not extremely good either.
Seadall: Dancer/10 and I made him a support unit with Tiki.
Goldmary: Kinda fun personality wise due to her being so obssessed with herself and she's very pretty but.......ANOTHER LANCE USER COME ON, HEROES SHOULD HAVE AXES AND SWORDS NOT LANCES AND SWORDS. Benched her immediately, only saw some supports because they were funny.
Rosado: He cute, he's a wywern rider. NGL he surpised me. After a few levels and some skills/Erika ring bong he became a valid member of the team. Also I like his artist side.
Lindon: WHY THERE'S AN OLD MAN ON A BOAT. Only useful find for me was that he had Thoron which I immediately put on Ivy the next chapter.
Saphir: She was there I guess............
Mauvier: I kinda stuck with him since the final chapters let me use 14 characters so he was there. Decent fighter and some staff utility, became a supoort unit too. Somehow the only Cav unit that I managed to use decently.
Veyle: Towee/10 Her personal dagger does magic damage and the tome she comes with has some decent power, with Lucina as her emblem ring she was useful enough for endgame. Also any character voiced by Towa's english VA can't be bad, right ?
I just realized that my main team was with 0 mounted units (unless they were fliers) and barely any back-up units.
It may be also because I played on Normal because it's technically my first game in the series I've played until the end (tried Awakening and Echoes but I wasn't feeling it), oh well. Also barely used the DLC units outside of the Xenologue.
Ivy is my favorite as well, but it was mostly down to how she had the most interesting story integration...
I play the recent Fire Emblem games in a very strange way, where i have to reclass everyone into a randomly assigned class from the highest promotion level (so no base class runs for me!), and i can only get 1 weapon type version of that class. Ivy became my Axe Great Knight on my first playthrough, so like every lord, she didn't get her skills from the unique lord classes, but she still somehow ended up carrying the run, as my other tank was Sword General Etie... Etie sucked at both physical and magical tanking, while Ivy somehow got amazing levels in both Res and Def!
So as a tank, she could take hits from both sources, and also had better move and even hit pretty hard when i got her a Levin Sword...

@@MaxMonado ps I'm glad that ivy is number 1 since she a lot of people favorite character even with people who don't like the overall cast and a lot of people think she was going to be the camilla of this game and in some way she is but she still great on her own and since camilla if one of my favorite character in the series and waifu in general. I was already hooked and she have made it on the list coming in at nb4 what say you?
@sueflewalling Yes I saw it, I originally also thought Ivy would be like Camilla or Tharja, but I'm happy she turned out to be so unique!

3. Sombron, I have no idea why he gets a randomly interesting bad ending but that was amazing, kinda wish it was canon because I enjoyed it more than the good ending.

It's been a very long time since I wanted to skip cutscenes in a JRPG but man this game really pushed my patience, holy crap I was really hoping the game would do a three houses and blow my expectations out of the water but man they really failed hard. Positive note i didn't give a crap about the censorship if anything I wish they changed more and made something like ghost stories in the dub.
The story had one or two good moments but looking back I feel I could have skipped half the cutscenes and I wouldn't have missed any vital information
I still liked the game overall for its gameplay and characters, but I can understand why people feel differently
(Also is the gay guy supposed to be Kagetsu? Xd)
