    Tyler
    Re the dash mat, use 2 cable ties either side, what you do is bend about 5cm of the tip of the cable back on itself to make a sharp hook, then feed it down past the dash demister slats near your window
    The folded bit will pop up the other side of one of the slats, grab it with needle nose pliers, pull it thru and you can connect the cable tie and it will hold the mat, it doesn't need to be tight just firm

    I gotta say after many years of owning Landcruisers, the part time kit is an awful idea. I know lots of people do it but it introduces excess stresses into the rear drive line. Fuel savings are negligible. My current 109 series has 810,000 is and never touched eithe diff. And it’s been to Cape York 4 times. I’m loving this build. 80s are awesome.

    • @cliffbooth7075

      Full time 4wd (all wheel drive) is a blessing over rear wheel drive & locking in hubs. He’s used to Nissans I guess in that regard and wanted to add back in the extra step to make things a bit more work for himself.

    If you really want part-time 4x4, a part-time T-case kit with full-time hubs keeps the stronger hubs, keeps 4x4 selectable from inside the cabin, and the fuel cost difference is actually proven to be negligible compared to free hubs.

    • @sethparkinson1023
      @sethparkinson1023 Год назад

      Whats the point of converting the transfer for manual locking hubs? I dont get it

    • @ontic2354
      @ontic2354 Год назад +1

      @@sethparkinson1023 most people convert from factory full-time to part time 4x4, because they incorrectly believe it saves fuel, and or they like how a rear wheel drive car drives (or they want to do burn outs). Countless people have tested this and it doesn’t save significant fuel, and if it does, it is such a small amount. It also removes some added on road safety that full time 4x4 provides. What it does do is reduce driveline slop, and will certainly make it feel and steer a bit different. Tyre wear is also changed a bit.
      Instead of just putting a part time kit in the transfer case (to reduce driveline slop) people also put manual hubs on, again, because they think that a turning diff and axles uses up extra fuel-it really doesn’t in any significant way. If they want part time for it’s only really advantages (Band-Aid for driveline slop, and different feel when driving), then they should keep the far stronger full time hubs-at least that way you don’t have to get out and manually lock hubs.
      P.S. it is a contentious issue, and there are hardcore believers who will argue against this.

    • @ontic2354
      @ontic2354 Год назад +1

      @@ash300186 I don’t think it’s that black and white, and I’m happy enough with a full time 4x4 105FTE, driveline slop and all-if I wanted part time, Id just do the T-case and keep the full time hubs. Just never having to get out in mud and shite conditions to lock and unlock manual hubs would be worth the tiny amount of fuel difference it might make, and you keep stronger hubs too. I mean, it’s a petrol 80 series, getting built for a comfortable reliable family and cruising car for Demi-saving something like 0.05% fuel if that just to have weaker hubs that you need to get in and out to lock to get into 4x4? It’s a downgrade to me.
      I don’t know why so many people launch straight into this as a first essential mod, but they do.
