    One nice thing about having oversized off-road tires on an old 4 speed automatic is it drops the RPM on the highway a little bit without re -gearing. There’s a flip side to that though and that’s being bogged down at low speeds. My Honda CRV used to sit at 3000 rpm (halfway to redline) when doing 70, now that the tires are up a size it’s more like 2800.

    We had a 94 Land Cruiser 80 with 160k miles that we bought from a couple in Beaver Creek. We didn't use it much so gave it to my stepson and his wife. It was the gas model which is normally aspirated. It could only reach 50 mph on the approach to the Eisenhower tunnel due to the high altitude. If the owner needs the third row seats they are still in our basement.

    Born in Sri Lanka (Asia) I really miss the diesels. We loved diesels because it was cheaper than gasoline and it had more range than gasoline. This HDJ80 is so awesome. I think FZJ80 is the last proper Land Cruiser USA got. For Asian, Australian, African market got one more proper Land Cruiser series 105. Here in the USA the last LC 200 with 5.7 gas V8 with small 24gal tank was not my cup of tea. My next choice was 4Runner 1GR-FE V6 with 23gal tank which 1GR-FE is even available on the big Land Cruiser 300 also goes down to many other Toyotas even on Lexus GX outside of USA. I'd absolutely love to have a LC70 4.5T 5 door with 180L tanks like the troopy. But it would be impossible with US EPA and safety needs. Right side drive in a wrong side driving country is a concern too. Can only dream of USA get touring + offroad friendly 4x4s.

    • @QnA22

      I have the 1GRFE V6 petrol (diesel freezes up here) including the 140 Liter tank and the same 6th spare wheel rack on the back as the one in this vid. Had the Prado with the diesel version which was great too. I haven't driven it as much yet, so am not sure if it will compete well with the Prado. The extra Rear Locker will be off great help though, as well as the factory winch.
      Have you driven this LC200? Know something interesting about it?

    The sliding windows came on all LC with a third row. For whatever reason the ones in Japan are either 3 row gas or 2 row diesel. You can’t find 3 row diesels in Japan. In other markets you can find both. A third row is a decently easy retrofit but you won’t have the sliding windows

  • @electrikoptik
    @electrikoptik Год назад +24

    US-spec Land Cruiser were always the "weakest" when it came to options. If you look at LC's that were sold in Caribbean, South-America, Africa, Australia and other international marktets you'll see that they all came with pretty much all options that the JDM had. The only option that I did not see on non JDM 80-series was the adjustable dampers. Out of the top of my head here are options that US-market 80-series LC never got but international market did: choice between gas and diesel option, choice between most basic trim to middle to fully equipped, coolbox, winch, rear spare tire, sub fuel tank, altimeter/compass, front + rear A/C, two rows or 3 rows, barn door, manual hubs, auto locking hub or full time 4wd etc etc.
