      Amen, brother. This was and is the best space science fiction TV series ever. It is truly so sad that Mr O'Hare became too Ill to continue and that he died alone in some flop house. How many of us would have reached out to him to help him if we had known. I'll always wonder how the series would have gone on if he could have remained. R. I. P. Michael O'Hare.

    1. “Who are you?” (Vorlons)
    2. “What do you want?” (Shadows)

      Really, it's one of the major plot lines of the series, that the Minbari's surrendered because they determined that one human had the soul of one of their most famous historic figures. When they replaced the commander, they even created a similar backstory for the new commander so that not all of the plot arc had to be changed. I didn't watch a lot of Babylon 5 but the whole Sinclair arc was blatantly obvious and fundamental to the series.

      I know what you mean. Boxleitner was clearly the more reliable and experienced actor, read smooth. But it was his very smoothness that bothered me a bit. He was always smiling. O'Hare on the other hand often seemed to suggest deeper psychological layers in his readings, even when he was stiff. You could believe he was still suffering in some way from some barely remembered trauma. No doubt this had something to do with his troubles. R.I.P Michael O'Hare.

      @@lamoneal I got exactly the same vibe. Sheridan seemed to have this almost constant sense of glee which was often totally at odds with the tone of the show. With a few exceptions he was a poor diplomat (frequently getting pissed and starting or encouraging rows between ambassadors) and he never really struck me as appreciating the responsibility he held. In one scene in particular he's in the war room during the shadow war; the alliance he leads is loosing the war, millions of lives are on the line and they can't work out the shadow's strategy, yet Sheridan seems to be having nothing worse than a bad day at the office.
      By contrast Sinclair always struck me as appreciating that he was responsible for a station of a quarter of a million people, how a single misjudgement in the council could cause a war that would kill millions and how there were a vast array of factions desperately hoping to make everything he was trying so desperately to build crash and burn. He was exactly the type of man you would put in charge of a place like Babylon 5. Sheridan Just wasn't (I think they actually say something in Sheridan's first episode about how he is basically there as a middle finger to the Mimbari). I also thought O'Hare had a certain gravitas and charisma that Boxleitner just lacked.
      Don't get me wrong I liked Sheridan fine, but O'Hare's Sinclair (trust me there's no way not to make that rhyme) is the perfect cast for the perfect captain

      @@Ma55ey If I recall correctly, the original plot was to have Sinclair fall in love with Delenn, and somehow a second Earth-Minbari War would break out, culminating in the destruction of B5 (the flash-forward that Sinclair had in "Babylon Squared" of B5 being breached and destroyed was actually meant to happen). Babylon 4 would then be brought forward in time and renamed Babylon Prime and, because it was a much larger station -- with engines that allowed it to travel -- it would open up the storytelling a bit more. Sinclair and Delenn were supposed to have a child and then split up, I think. The child, David, would age rapidly due to the time-traveling shenanigans, and would end up being sort of a Messianic figure but I'm a bit foggy on how that was to play out.
      I really prefer the way it turned out in the end: though Sinclair is absent after season one, his presence looms large over the entire series because of just how important he actually is to everything, from being Valen to being in charge of the Anla'Shok, and even just the fact that he has a happier ending than Sheridan does: Sinclair/Valen wins the first Shadow war, finds Catherine Sakai (who somehow disappears and ends up in the past), has lots of kids and lives happily ever after while Sheridan dies on Z'ha'dum and then gets brought back only to be stuck as a politician for the 20 years he's got left.

Interestingly enough, that role was the one that was originally written for Walter Koenig, but his heart attack and subsequent recovery time forced changes that led to a new character being written for him, Alfred Bester. Knight 2 was also almost played by Patrick McGoohan of The Prisoner fame.

      @@kennethmelnychuk9737 That isn't the prophecy he meant. At this time no Minbari knew about Sinclair time traveling back to become Valen. They only knew B4 did, and they definitely didn't know about the two-step process it took for B4 to time travel back. The prophecy of Valen was Valen's own prophecy that the Minbari would find their future in another species (humans) after he returned.

      I think that she suspected all along since the time the trilluminary shined at him and the reason why the mimbari government stated that they wanted him as commander of B5.
      Also, Zathras mentioned him as the beginning of the story (the ONE that was)

    • @jenswurm
      @jenswurm 3 года назад

      That struck me as well. But even if they didn't know he'd become Valen, they stopped the whole war over not wanting to kill people like Sinclair. Surely that would protect Sinclair in this case too.
      So either this bit of dialogue is inconsistent with the rest of the lore, or that particular Minbari was simply making a very bad decision and would get torn a new one by his peers.
