Music: Passing Time - Kevin MacLeod • Passing Time - Kevin M...
Ray Charles Robinson Sr. (September 23, 1930 - June 10, 2004) was an American singer, songwriter, pianist, and composer. Among friends and fellow musicians he preferred being called "Brother Ray". He was often referred to as "the Genius". Charles was blinded during childhood, possibly due to glaucoma.
Charles pioneered the soul music genre during the 1950s by combining blues, jazz, rhythm and blues, and gospel styles into the music he recorded for Atlantic. He contributed to the integration of country music, rhythm and blues, and pop music during the 1960s with his crossover success on ABC Records, notably with his two Modern Sounds albums. While he was with ABC, Charles became one of the first black musicians to be granted artistic control by a mainstream record company.
Charles's 1960 hit "Georgia On My Mind" was the first of his three career No. 1 hits on the Billboard Hot 100. His 1962 album Modern Sounds In Country And Western Music became his first album to top the Billboard 200. Charles had multiple singles reach the Top 40 on various Billboard charts: 44 on the US R&B singles chart, 11 on the Hot 100 singles chart, 2 on the Hot Country singles charts.
Charles cited Nat King Cole as a primary influence, but his music was also influenced by Louis Jordan and Charles Brown. He had a lifelong friendship and occasional partnership with Quincy Jones. Frank Sinatra called Ray Charles "the only true genius in show business," although Charles downplayed this notion. Billy Joel said, "This may sound like sacrilege, but I think Ray Charles was more important than Elvis Presley".
For his musical contributions, Charles received the Kennedy Center Honors, the National Medal of Arts, and the Polar Music Prize. He was one of the inaugural inductees at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, in 1986. He has won 18 Grammy Awards (5 posthumously), the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 1987, and 10 of his recordings have been inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame. Rolling Stone ranked Charles No. 10 on their list of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time, and No. 2 on their list of the 100 Greatest Singers of All Time. In 2022, he will be inducted into the Black Music & Entertainment Walk of Fame.
In 2003, Charles had successful hip replacement surgery and was planning to go back on tour, until he began suffering from other ailments. He died at his home in Beverly Hills, California, of complications resulting from liver failure, on June 10, 2004, at the age of 73. His funeral took place on June 18, 2004, at the First African Methodist Episcopal Church of Los Angeles, with numerous musical figures in attendance. B.B. King, Glen Campbell, Stevie Wonder and Wynton Marsalis each played a tribute at the funeral. He was interred in the Inglewood Park Cemetery. Развлечения
I was at his funeral in the choir and we also sang when he was interred

As a kid I grew up listening to all genres of music from all backgrounds and eras. And Ray Charles was one of the many artists I grew up listening to. And now I'm in my 30s and still listen to Ray Charles. One of my inspirations. We truly lost a talented legend.

Where is a Ray Charles bronze statue .?
At first I thought it was an apartment complex until you said it was a whole house…not a happy looking house like his 60’s home.

Every time I hear the song "what I say" I can't help but immediately think of Chris Farley singing in Tommy Boy
RIP Mr. Ray Charles
Yet another well done, well respected video Scott!
✌😁
first time i heard sing i fall in love with him great singer
Wow!! That is a house!! It looks like and apartment building - Huge
I've been binge watching your videos for a while now, and this one is another gem. Really love the way how respectful you are, keeping a respectable distance from the homes, and treating the final resting places with so much respect. One thing that baffles me often, is the way some stars are in mausoleums like this. I know in the USA its very common to be placed in one, but in Europe, and defenitely here in Holland, mausoleums like this don't exist, as far as I know. I had the same with John Candy's resting place. For me it feels like a huge celebrity is just tucked away in some big building. I know not every star can have a munoment grave like for instance Kenny Rogers, but this feels so "simple" for lack of a better word.
Mess around love it
2:47 a picture of young Michael Jackson. 😊
I noticed that ❤
TY big-dogg!

Stellar work @ScottOnTape ♥️ My father was an big Ray Charles fan, played his records all the time, and then I became an big fan! The movie made me cry, laugh & dancing when his music played lol! I don’t want to spoil it for those who haven’t seen the movie Ray! The first house seemed very loud living next to that busy street, but still very big & beautiful! The second house I really liked, beautiful, had a pool and quieter! I was happy when Georgia allowed him back in & officially named Rays song, “Georgia” the state song 🎵! Scott ty for showing us all theses beauties! I am only seeing everything because you share with us! ♥️ (If you haven’t seen the movie “Ray” fan or so so fan, it’s a MUST see! Cast - Jamie Fox, Regina King, Kerry Washington, too many to mention everyone here! ♥️ you won’t be disappointed! )
