Five years before Lizzie Borden and her axe became famous, nine members of the Woolfolk family were killed with an axe at their home near Macon in Georgia’s first mass murder.
Richard Woolfolk, his wife Mattie, their six children, and a visiting relative, were all slaughtered as they slept. Suspicion immediately fell on Tom Woolfolk, Richard’s 27-year-old son from a previous marriage. Tom was the only family member not killed. He claimed a gang broke in and murdered his family. He had heard the killings, and managed to escape.
Police found no evidence of forced entry. Tom’s body bore blood stains. He seemed agitated and nervous. His bloodstained shirt was found down a well.
As an angry crowd gathered, the sheriff jailed Tom to save him from a lynching.
The murders shocked Georgia, and made front-page headlines across the nation. After two trials, and two appeals, Tom Woolfolk was convicted and hanged in 1890.
Many questions remain about Georgia’s first mass murder, and exactly what happened on that bloody morning, August 6, 1887

Such a horrendous & tragic story. You yet again did such an amazing job with this tribute. So touching & respectful always. A rock for every person, that’s how I would do it too. You are always so incredibly thoughtful too. I don’t know why the guy whom did this has a tombstone let alone a grave in itself, he doesn’t deserve either. May this precious family RIP.

Scott! You come up with the most interesting true crime stories to explore! Evidently the court didn't see Tom as a simpleton or suffering from mental deficiency as they found him sane enough to stand trial. They tried him twice and both times returned guilty and punishable by hanging death verdicts. Makes one wonder if perhaps he was what we would now classify as On The Spectrum or full-blown Asperger's? Or, was his ex-wife right in saying he wasn't crazy, he was just the meanest person in the world and nothing was too off-limits for him? Hi Scott, I watched this when you first posted it but couldn't comment because I was on the highway driving back to Chicago, so now that I'm here, I came back to post. I don't know how anyone could carry so much evil, greed, and hatred in their heart. Actually, it doesn't even sound like he had a heart, so I think I just answered my own question. People like this have to be psychopathic. To kill anyone, but especially these young children and babies, is a person who reeks of mental illness. It's not an excuse, but there's no way anyone can call this despicable, terrible person normal after doing something like this. It's so nice to see that this family was all remembered with new markers. God bless whoever did that for them. That's the least they deserve, though. I can't imagine the horror in that house. RIP to all of them ❤💐

Thanks for sharing this sad story, I haven't heard about it. It is so horrible! Little baby Rose bud really broke my heart! I pray that they all rest in everlasting peace! I have to admit though, before you started telling the story, as you were driving in, I think that black dog sorta scared you, I laughed at that. Now tears are rolling down my eyes for this poor family.

What a sad story just looking down at those graves knowing 7 are just babies all one family gone in a second. Because of one selfish person who wanted everything killed a whole family and ended up with nothing What a waste of lives. As I watch your videos I see that you're in Georgia a lot. It's crazy how much history is in that state! I really had no idea that so many crazy different things went on in Georgia over the years. It's part of the reason that makes your videos so awesome because i've honestly learned so much from watching your uploads. So many crazy facts that I was never aware of before that really should be more public and I'm surprised that some of these stories were never heard and almost ignored until now. Hurts my heart to think of what this family went through and those kids never had a chance in life because of that evil monster. We can only hope he’s burning in hell for what he did. ✌️

Peaceful. Good edits, and pacing the narration. I felt like I was in a cemetery not at an amusement park or side show. I have to admit, when I saw that black lab come bounding down next to you, I laughed. Labs are so goofy and spontaneous like that 🕊️
2024 has'nt been the best year with losing my mom and i just want the hurt i feel to go away but scott you make happy all the time. Its just my mom took care of me for being disabled and i took care of her so she would'nt have to be in a nursing home. But at least im at peace knowing she's not in pain anymore. i just miss all the time. But i remember she was home for christmas and she said im so happy and i know its because i was with her that day. I guess i know the only postive is that i was a good daughter and she knew it and thats what im proud of. from Vickie💓💞
