Even if I had the money for a huge house, I will always choose a small cozy, manageable home over an oversized home any day. Also, I love the dark paint color you chose!
I recently sold my home and downsized as an empty nester. You are so right that you never know how much stuff you have until you are forced to box it all up! We donated, gave away, and threw away probably 70% of what we owned, and our new place has little storage space to hide things. Best of luck to you in your new home!
I agree. But so many are so caught up in materialism. We are the most disgustingly wasteful country. Fast fashion. Fast furniture. Filling this landfills and actual dumps in the oceans Igs truly sickening
@@judylloyd7901 maybe it is just said in wrong way It depends on attitude. Having less is having less and this is truth. But having less can be also happiness, If You want to be minimalist and it is Your choice.
I really appreciate seeing a "minimalist" who has stuff. Stuff, not too much but enough stuff, is the difference between a cozy home and one of those minimalist homes where the owner has decided stuff is evil and has purged everything unnecessary (artwork, plants, throw pillows, window treatments, rugs, furniture, etc.) from their space, making it look more like an institution than a home. Congratulations on being a minimalist with stuff! Love your style!
Just purchased an 800 square foot condo after going through a life change. It’s perfect! As you mentioned…we don’t need a lot of things. I have nothing in storage and everything I need is with me. I’m delighted to have my cozy home and I would never go bigger. It’s my sanctuary!❤️ My lifetime motto is “less is more”. Beautiful channel, your voice is very relaxing.
We've lived in an under 800 square foot home for 30 years. Raised 2 wonderful children here. The layout is awful but the house was built in 1949 and was considered a summer cabin. We've done some upgrades and recently took out my beloved claw foot tub and replaced with a walk in shower due to our ages, 71 and 73. I've been a minimalist since 2008 when I first discovered Flylady and was still dealing with cancer. Life changes and we can only go forward.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts!! I have lived in a small home for 23 years. My husband and I have raised our now teenagers in it. Thank you for the reminder! Sometimes I get caught up in the materialistic mindset and get tempted to buy something bigger and more renovated/prettier than my home is. Thank you for your reminder to be content with my small home and all the memories it holds
I love the paint colour. Now that we are older we have down sized and it made us de clutter. We are so happy. It’s much easier to clean. It’s cheaper to heat, to decorate and to furnish. It’s so cosy.
I went from 3000 sf home to 1100 sf condo after divorce and it’s been wonderful. Housecleaning takes less time, utility bills are much lower, and it feels cozy. It’s the perfect size for me and my 16 year old daughter and she loves it when she is over. Don’t think I’ll ever move into a bigger home. I’ve actually thought about moving into a smaller place once I retire. Less is absolutely more.
I LOVE that picture you hung up over your kitchen sink. Same goes for your plants on the shelf over your eating area. Most importantly, bigger is not better, it is just bigger.
Thank you sooo much Carole. The picture is a Salvador Dali print called Young Woman at a window that my dad got me at least a decade ago. I love it too 🙂 And I so entirely agree with that sentiment. Bigger is just bigger.
I went from having a huge two thousand square feet House to now having a little apartment five hundred square feet I absolutely love it and because I embraced simplicity I have more money then I ever thought, love this thank you so much for sharing ❤❤❤❤
An empty room makes me feel so happy!!! Also I love what you said about these things hidden in my closet being deferred decisions or for me, avoiding feelings.
A bigger house can lend to higher property taxes, higher home insurance premiums and higher costs to cool and/or heat a large space. It’s not how big the house; it’s how happy the home. ❤😊
We downsized to nearly half. Now I only have what I really like, know where everything is and love the beauty of it and the added plus of ease of cleaning.
Im 70 and looking forward to downsizing from 3 to 1 bedroom. Imagining 2/3 of the housekeeping gone is good! Why spend my precious final years cleaning?😂 👍😎🇨🇦
Cute pup 😍 As I get older, I think less and simple is freedom! Your home is cute! Great video with some wise words! I hope you have a wonderful rest of your weekend!
Your videos are such a breath of fresh air! They capture the beauty of minimalistic living so well. I’m also sharing my journey of living in a tiny house on a hill, but with just 50 subscribers, it’s been a bit of a challenge. Your content really inspires me to keep going. Thank you for the encouragement and for creating such amazing content!
I have been declutterring recently, I just don’t want so much stuff around now. I have some beautiful things but it’s too much for how I feel right now. I have boxed them up though as I may change my mind in the future. I like small cosy spaces. You have a lovely voice, so calming 😊
The minimalists created a challenge, "the packing party". Essentially pack up all your stuff as if you were moving, like pretend... And only take out what you need to use in that moment. Do this for a month or two, and you'll be able to clearly see what you are using, what you need and don't need. I think it's puts things into perspective! Also I think the amount of boxes is a realisation of how much stuff we have, when I ts all together in the open, it was a big shock to me, as I'd already Decluttered a l I t if my stuff and it was an awakening, to say the least..... And i think, when all the stuff is spread out and tidy and out away, it's hidden clutter that we tend to push to the back of our mind, but when we move, we are forced to finally deal with it.
Good luck setting up your new home. that color is a great. I live in two places without winter so its easier to be completely downsized. most of my time is spent outside by choice too.
Wow, great job painting everyone! It looks so professional! Your little dog, Rain, is so cute! It's nice to have a walking companion that is quiet. Your new home looks great and I am not surprised that you had more things then you thought you did. That feature only raises it's little head when you move and have to pack everything up! Speaking from long experience, here. Congrats on your new home and I hope it makes you happy. A suggestion for a video sometime in the future would be the things you eat and cook. When you are preparing food or drink, it looks very interesting and I'd love to know more-like are you a vegan or a vegetarian? Thanks, Lyndsay for another great video!
Congrats, L! I'm currently in a 1600 sq ft place rn but trying to find a home half that size to move in to. Can't wait to feel the peace and joy like you are :)
What color is that blue paint? Love it , I’ve owned three homes, ..raised family in 2500 sq ft , down sized to 1400 sq ft , now in 1200 sq ft and yes , I owned zero last downsizing cause it was Thousands of miles away , made mistake of buying too much to fill it , I don’t want it full , now getting rid of most stuff again , and maybe downsize to under 1000 next time
I am loving your paint color!! We're downsizing to a hot climate, and that color looks cooling and Zen. Please tell me, what is the name of the color & manufacturer? I need it in my LIFE :)
I moved from a 3 bedroom house to a motor home , omg I thought I had decluttered until I weighed the motor home, it was 300 kgs over weight. Lots of large items went 100 kgs lost more clothes went down 10 kgs more, I have ordered a new bed for 25 kgs not sure how much the current one weighs but definitely more than 25 kgs
@@lyndsayallison2325 have to use up all my water that is 110 kgs And both myself and my dog are on a diet 🤣 Decluttering winter clothes as I move into summer regions
I just started my minimalism journey, but I've been holding onto vintage photos of landscapes that are from out of state, for my admiration for the photographer and nature. But now I surprisingly, swiftly decided to give them away. Someday maybe I'll replace them with vintage photos of landscapes from my home state- I find stuff like that so adoring, similar to if it was a reminiscent photo of my family- even if I might occasionally tell myself that the landscape photo is unnecessary. I also have vintage map prints that I'm trying to donate to museums, but they won't respond :/ guess I'll search for like-minded people!
Hey, My friend who had dreads before wanted me to tell white peoples who have dreads that it’s appropriation of black culture. The paint you chose looks so nice!
You try to tell people (especially family members getting up in age) hey man: simplify, simplify. Instead they want to fill your space up as much as their own. And you just know when they’re gone, oh boy time to go through a ton of clutter and junk, most of which collected dust and/or last saw sunlight who knows when.
Interesting take. I would say it means the opposite… if you have a workshop - create, if you have an instrument - make music, and if you have space designated for working out - do it often. My take is that if you have taken the time and the thought to decide to keep something, it’s worthy of being used regularly, and appreciated often. Have a great day 🙂
