Thanks Lindsay for another inspiring vlog…… I downsized from a large 2 bed house to a 1 bedroom modest apartment….. it’s helped my minimalist journey…… 2 years in and letting go of stuff in batches…… it’s tremendously freeing…… on a deeper level letting go of things that don’t serve me alongside stuff that I just don’t need…… it’s such a journey of learning…… I’m liking the ‘it’s not the things….. but the space between the things’ ….. blessings and thanks for the inspiration 🌞🌻🧿🪬🕉️☯️🧘🏼♂️🙏🏽
Just found your channel and subscribed straight away. I feel like my stuff constantly shouting at me too. My daughter keeps saying I don't need to get rid of everything which is correct but I don't want to keep what I don't need and having less is more calming to me 😊
I think your comment about respecting each of your possessions is very profound. If you have so many items that you cannot possibly find time or attention to respect every one of them, then you have too much. Your house looks cute. Best wishes to you.
Thank you! And I so believe that! Things in our society are seen so often as disposable, forgettable little dopamine hits. Instead of worthy tools that can make our lives better. It’s not good for us to live this way. Have a wonderful day! 🌷🙂
Another great video! I have found that the more I let go of the more peace i have. It makes ne want to let go of even more. Unfortunately my husband isn't on board.
@michelleevans2445 I'm in the same boat as you. I downsized with my belongings but my husband is not on board. My husband's stuff is all over our home. I feel so much better having less stuff. For me less stuff is less clutter.
Same here. Hubby doesn't like change at all. So we live in 3200 square foot home with 11 rooms. Doesn't include 3 bedrooms, 3 baths. Very frustrating. .
@@noemisolano4748 thankfully my husband's stuff is contained to only a couple rooms in the house. Although I would get rid of more stuff in the kitchen, like dishes, if he was ok with that.
@@annamariekorte7259 wow, that's a lot of space. Our home is about 2000 square feet, maybe a little over. I would definitely be comfortable with downsizing.
I understand exactly how you feel. I moved into a 20’ camper and I it was tight in the beginning. Purged a lot of things that I was holding on to for no good reason.
Love all the colours in your house. Ive lived in my house for 33 years and have the urge to downsize. Its a scary thing to let go of something you have known for so long.
So true, but once you're ready it's a wonderful adventure. I lived in my former home almost 30 years. A few years after my husband died, I downsized to a house five times smaller and got rid of 70% of my possessions. I'm basically living in an adult-sized dollhouse and couldn't be happier. All that to say, you'll know when the time is right for you! Wishing you the best!
@kfitz192 Thank you for taking the time to reply. What a big change for you. I'm glad you are happy in your new tiny home. Wishing you lots of happy years there. X
I think of human nature as an empty shell. Fragile, build with a purpose and empty to be filled with so many options. Commonly, such shells are filled with mere debris from other shells. And there were go navigating in a sea full of crumbs, trying to fill out the empty spot with outside material, ignoring or silencing our inner self. We need constant reminders that not everything we see is precisely what we need.
its not about how much or little you have, or if the space is large or not - but what is your relationship with all that is yours? We have lived in an era of abundance for many decades that is unprecedented in history. By nature humans have learned to collect things, that being some level of pack rat can help you in lean times, and our level of possessions tends to rise to the level of available space. Its very easy to buy things, shopping and buying can be a mindless activity - the difficultly lies in parting with possessions because that requires real thought. I'm a senior and I have been downsizing for the last 10 years, rehoming and selling off the things that no longer fit my life and because I don't want my family to have to deal with a massive clean out when I am gone. I actually still have almost exactly 100 unopened boxes from when I downsized into my current 864 sq. ft. prairie ranch house with a 624 sq. ft. shop/garage. For probably two or three years my garage was so full of stuff that no cars were parked inside. Then I found magic on eBay and collected $18,000 selling off stuff until I could fit two cars inside the garage. I still have a lot of stuff to rehome and sell off (did I mention that I own five cars/trucks? - not all of which run and drive). I'm hoping that in another five years time I will have substantially reduced my possessions down to the things I need, want, and use. Its not been easy, because occasionally I discover that I've parted with something that I still need or want - but I've learned to chalk that up to the cost of achieving greater personal freedom. Its okay when I have to occasionally rebuy something that I got rid of.
I just found your channel and really enjoyed your video today! I downsized five years ago to a very small home of 596 sq ft. And I've learned a lot living in this small space. One of the biggest things is that even though I got rid of 70% of my possessions I still brought way too much for my little dollhouse! Fortunately there is a shed on the property, along with an attached garage (that my car barely fits into) and a basement! Good for the short-term but not for the long term! I've had some health challenges but have made good progress on eradicating the excess in the basement in order to have space for an art studio. At first I wanted to go all out and do all kinds of things down there but in the end decided to put partitions around the mechanicals. I don't want cupboards, closets or rooms down there, because I know what will happen!!! So I'm going to keep it very simple and see how it goes. I'm learning, in a real way, that less really is more. It's easier to say no to new stuff because I already have more than enough!
It’s such a teaching process to have less space! It forces us to see what really matters, and to see our own weaknesses! Sounds like you’re doing well 🙂
Hi Lyndsay :) So happy to have another fantastic happy video and I'm SO IN LOVE WITH RAIN I've gone from being a shopping addicted hoarder person to extreme minimalist after being diagnosed with advanced MS. I've also had to move to a teeny tiny little place - basically the old garage in my parents back garden (basically space for a single vehicle) so space was minimal. This has been about 10 years ago and the journey continues day by day. The sheer amount of cr@p I had to try and sort out at the beginning was crazy but I'm still going on - my weakness is BOOKS and I constantly have to check myself with books and another weakness is coffee mugs. But with time I guess we just KNOW that something is not right and it basically means that something no longer belongs. Thank You so much for these amazing videos - enjoy your beautiful new home and the journey forward.
Thank you so much! And oh what a journey you have had! And it never really stops does it!? It’s so important to know those purchase weaknesses! I had both of those ones but since falling in love with my kobo the book issue has been mostly dealt with! It’s true though… even before you know you have too much, you can feel it. Thank you soo much for a little glimpse into your story and for your support 🙂🌷
I was a book addict and have fallen in love with Audible and I have a Kindle and a few cherished books.Audible has cleared my bookshelves and made my tiny house uncluttered.
