It's like, even kids would like decent writing. They're not that dumb. Well, not as dumb as someone like Diabeto or Simpetic Manless or Oblivious Chaos.
I find it sad that in its prime, Clone Wars was about looking at the individual clones beyond all their surface similarities and finding unique characters. Now, they are all either stereotypically evil or just straight up caricatures like “Big Dumb One”, “Innocent Little Girl One”, “Smart and Skinny One”, “Fan-service Corpse”, “Edgy Sniper”, and “Rambo, but worse”
Though I would say the Clone Wars simplified them as a whole by making their betrayal due to some microchip mind control. Before that they knew they could at any time be ordered to kill the Jedi leading and fighting alongside them, and that added depth to their interactions that is now missing.
Order 66 completely split the allegiances of the clones. Some remained to serve Vader and the Empire. The ones who were lucky enough to break from their programming are either trying to find a new life, fight on behalf of their brothers against the Empire, or are rotting in a cell undergoing unethical experimentation. Yes, Clone Force 99 are a bit corny having their archetypical qualities, but Dee Bradley Baker does a great job of making the clones feel unique. The writing could be better, but I think there’s some value to be gleaned from the overarching clone story. The one thing I’ll give them is they at least had the balls to split up the Bad Batch in certain moments 😂 the conflicts they face are AT LEAST somewhat more compelling than the scenarios they came up with for the more recent live action shows (Andor not included).
@@vadandrumist1670 Isn't that an oversimplification too, since they all knew and did nothing to warn the Jedi or refuse? Here we at least have Crosshair who was willing to serve the Empire even without a chip.
I really do enjoy listening to this podcast. Because there's so many low key burns. It's just baffling how little theory actually knows about things. And I'm not just talking about star wars. He knows almost nothing about pop culture. And Ryan's knowledge of star wars alone is far superior. And Mauler is in the middle and tells them how stupid they are about things is great.
@@AcidifiedMammothHes just too dumb to, his brain doesn't operate on that level. It sounds like a mean thing to say but I genuinely like Theory and it really isnt anything against him, by eveything I can see Theory most likely has below avg- avg intelligence, like when he was talking about how he watches movies to rate them its clear theres just not much going on in his head... theres many other examples of just general naivety and things going right over his head. Once again not an attack, just a kinda mean observation and not somthing id say to Theory or put on his channel.

@@deriznohappehquiteI think not paying enough attention to those movies to not get any memorable lines or character interactions out of them says more about you than anything else, but go off queen. You got this.
@deriznohappehquite Movies are more than memorable quotes. Prisoners is basically as close to a 10/10 as you're gonna get, but there aren't any lines that are iconic so it's less valuable I guess.
Bad Batch is definitely not entirely a good show, but it's unreal that they're wasting it on trying to justify Palpatine's bullshit reappearance in TROS.
That's what it's been about since the beginning. I remember commenting on one of Thor Skywalker's videos(back when I could listen to him, saying Omega will be force sensitive. & Years later, here we are. The Bad Batch show sucks. Only good episodes are the first, and last two episodes of season 1.
@@skrublordnord69I don't know, it's literally just the cloning aspect of it and nothing else, and being obsessed with immortality was always part of Palpatine's character. Like you could say this connects to Dark Empire or something instead and suddenly I just don't think you'd care. It's better to judge it in a vacuum on its own rather than just writing it off because it reminds you of/connects to something else. I also think it's pretty presumptuous to think this place won't be nuked by the end of the show, like this is obviously what they're all going to sacrifice themselves for in order to stop for the big finale.
@@RhysCallinan-bv1wi I completely disagree. It's interesting to hear from someone that desperately wants to stay a fan while giving the time of day to two big detractors. This is a very irregular thing going on here.
I hate the Bad Batch simply for Omega, the sources states she's an "unmodified" clone but the fact she is female makes her a modified clone, it's such bullshit.
I'm guessing unmodified in the sense that she doesn't have any of the enhancements and alterations that make the clones as good of soldiers as they are, but yeah it's weird how they never explain or address that.
@@nagger8216Thing is, there really isn't much alteration for the clones beyond having a faster aging system, unless it's a Bad Batch thing. If anything Omega is more altered than clones like Rex or Cody. The thing that makes them good soldiers is their rigorous training they got from when they were kids and techniques given by mercenary Mandalorians.
@@RhysCallinan-bv1wi I disagree, the Prime Minister specifically mentioned how they were modified to be less independent than the original host, which would also open the gateway to countless other alterations. Like, I seriously doubt the clones aren't modified to resist diseases more than the average human can, considering the countless alien worlds they'd be sent to, for example.
THAT'S what they're doing for season 3?!?! I was enjoying the show for doing it's own bounty hunter style thing with discarded clones. What a horrible thing
I really wish Theory would engage a bit more in a meaningful way. He doesn't seem to care that much about these podcasts. Mauler and Ryan are carrying this.
Also, Theory is not even attempting to lead the discussion on a show he knows more about. Leaving it to Mauler to drive discussion is so indicative of his attitude and he doesn't seem very invested in having a nuanced discussion.
Theory is rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic or bandaging a patient's finger who needs brain cancer removed or sorting the corn out of excrement, pick your metaphor.
Yeah, erasing decades of canon should be a hard decision. But they killed the entire EU without a second thought, which is the most modern Disney thing imaginable.
The show is called Star Grift. It's right in your face. The only person who never talks about money is Mauler and he puts in the most work out of anybody
I like Star Wars Theory. I really do. He seems like a chill dude and a nice guy. He just has the most baffling takes 😂 but that's what makes for an interesting dynamic between everyone.
A lot of his thinking is both defeatist, yet optimistic. Mauler and Ryan will argue why Filoni/Favreau are an awful combo for Star Wars, and his response will usually be "Okay but who else is gonna do better :/ This is the best we got." While also making excuses for them, "Nah man, this has gotta be studio interference." And simultaneously being bizarrely optimistic about future Filoni/Favreau projects? He's a weird one. To top it off, a lot of his argumentation seems to be "Okay yeah but it was dope, so whatever." He's been very open about how he feels that emotional resonance is more important to him than other components of Star Wars, and that's fine, but ya gotta wonder how much that's worth when this person wants Star Wars to improve, and their interest seems to be more in the 'now', rather than how it holds up in future.
@@VellFox98 perfect summary. The mix of defeatism/optimism is such an odd blend. Gotta give him credit for being a good sport, even though I disagree with just about everything he says.
@tFoxie I don't see it in terms of SWT's Defeatist and Optimistic. It comes off more as a "I will consume or die. The one time I was given the option to have a show that was not about consume (Andor), I rejected it". It comes off as a blind fanaticism. It makes me wonder, the Sequel Movies that he says he hates... did he come to that conclusion on his own, or did he read the room and decide to change his mind at some point? Because if I am being honest, if I was to believe current SWT about what he considers Star Wars, then the Sequel Trilogy are everything he could ever want in Star Wars. Listen to how SWT doesn't want the "Project Necromancer" to be Snoke at 10:00 - 12:20. He is very much ok with the key jangling bits of even the Sequel Trilogy. I don't know how to put it exactly. Ryan and Mauler feel like real people, with real opinions, experiencing Star Wars. SWT... I don't feel the same way about him. Everytime Theory says "wouldn't it be cool". I haven't felt such a "please stop uttering this sentence" from a person quite like him.
@001 Both you and @VellvetFoxie have worded it so well. To add on to your comments, I will mention another annoyance I have with him. I think he has taken this theory thing way too far, to the point that it's not theorizing using actual information given by the story, instead it has become a way to explain away everything that he doesn't want to admit make no sense. Given his sub count, this hasn't been good for the franchise at all, as this has no doubt contributed to a large portion of the fanbase lacking any sense of quality, where the standard is ''whatever I think is dope'' and even if it doesn't make sense, our headcanon can always fix it and they keep spreading the retarded mindset: ''it's a kid's show'', like stuff for kids can't or shouldn't be written intelligently. Good luck with wanting Star Wars to improve with that flimsy standard. It has become a lottery with extremely low odds, if Disney makes something good it's by complete accident (which hasn't happened yet btw), unless it's by the makers of Andor ofc, people with writing talent, but NO, to this crowd that was bad/boring because they're so obsessed with Jedis and old characters, which sends the wrong message to Disney. It doesn't matter what old characters they bring back or whatever story they're trying to tell, because with the current talentless writing staff, their projects will always be shit. They might think it's dope, but making sense? Yeah, no way in hell. Filoni/Favreau will never change that. I used to think this undying faith in Filoni was pathetic, but at this point it's just sad.
@@takaro0now that you mention it, Ryan and Mauler really do come off as adults having to tell child SWT that “no, we can’t do this or that dope thing because of (insert reality)”, and his only response to their comments are “yeah, but it would be dope/cool”. Just a little thing called “tempering your expectations”. You want to fly in the clouds SWT? It better either be in a vehicle or with a parachute.

I hate the control chip retcon. The chips detract from what makes the clones interesting and creepy, and -- in-universe -- from what makes them an effective trap for the Jedi. The clones have been conditioned since birth and indeed before birth to be obedient. They're not normal humans, they're a genetically altered construct. They may have individual inclinations and personalities -- and it was great that the (second) Clone Wars show explored them -- but the core of their psychology is that orders are obeyed. They can be good friends with the Jedi, but when the order is given to kill them, they'll do it instantly. The attitude should be "that's a shame, I liked them" -- regret that it has to happen but 100% willingness to do it. Which is why they can kill Jedi so effectively; there's no malice in them to be picked up by Jedi sensitivity. The Jedi would sense if someone has hostile intent towards them, but the clones genuinely don't. They really are friendly... and also 100% ready to kill their friends if ordered. Unfortunately, the animated show leaned so hard into "clones as individual heroes" that they felt the need to introduce chips to explain why the clones would turn on the Jedi. They shouldn't need chips, the programming is already there. And so we missed out on the creepiness of friendly, individualised clones who would casually gun down their friends if ordered and just got... normal soldiers, being mindcontrolled. Why have them be clones at all in that case?
I absolutely agree. Feels like they did that retcon in a misguided attempt to make the Clones more "sympathetic" or something. The 501st Journal logs from Battlefront 2 (2005) were a way more interesting/mature insight into Clone Troopers than any of the dumbed down crap from the "Filoniverse".
Hold up sir! GoW employed writers! How dare you evoke that sacrilege for a Star Wars show! Gonna put you in the trash right next to Andor if you blaspheme like that again.
She actually grew as a character in these episodes, I can't wait until they throw that away so they can teach her the same lesson about not trusting strangers again.

I need Mauler to go on a rant sometime when this is brought up and just blast through a bunch of "kids" content that is actually good to counter the point that standards should be lowered for kids stuff. The point hits home better when you shove actual examples into their faces.
@@fischers_of_meni wish theyd have an efap talking about how stupid that argument is because it amazes me how many still use it and think its a good response. hence why i use a food analogy because i dont knowhow else to explain it any easier to people.
I think it works as an argument for justifying older shows that would have some clumsy dialogue halfway through because there were adds and they needed exposition for people jumping in halfway.
Also, maybe it SHOULDN'T be a "kid's show". If we're meant to take this shit remotely seriously as being canonical stories within the universe, perhaps they should aim for a slightly more mature audience than drooling 5 year olds.

whats even funnier is that this isn't even original. this is just a crappy rip off of dark empire, an already flawed but admittedly interesting post ROTJ story in the expanded universe.
I'm so sick of this "It's for kids" nonsensical argument. Star Wars Theory puts no effort into these whatsoever. He obviously doesn't prepare any talking points and just reads super chats for the entire stream in the most perfunctory manner possible while plugging his merch and yawning a lot. From my point of view (reference) fans of TCW and fans in general are more often being intolerant saying that any criticism is just toxic or overly negative. Love the content but I personally I just think this opinion doesn’t line up
TCW fans call Andor badly written because there aren’t any lightsabers or Force users or big cameos, and when Andor fans respond they’re percieved as overly mean somehow. I’m so depressed.

Omega is blond. Rey's mom was brunette. Rey's dad doesn't look like Palpatine. By the time Rey's parents get killed by Ochi Omega should be 54 years old. Rey's mom looked at least 20 years younger. It doesn't work.
No hate for him, but Star Wars Theory still citing Legolas as his favorite LOTR character in his 30s really speaks to the immaturity of his media analysis.
What's wrong with Legolas being a favorite? Serious question. (I haven't read the books but have watched the movies, not an awful lot to go on, but still)
@AcidifiedMammoth Legolas is the cool one when you're 8, but beyond his interactions with Gimli there's nothing to him. He's probably the least interesting character out of the Fellowship. @iedMammothBecause he's the most superficial. Like Mauler said in the EFAP movies episode, he can understand the perspectives of having pretty much any of the major cast as someone's favourite character, but with Legolas it gets a bit rough because there's just not much to him.
He literally said he didn't know much about LotR in the first place. Im not count to count that against him if he doesn't care about it that much. Plus there's way better marks against him for "media immaturity" (if I even know what that means lol)

2:58:27 I find it funny that Ryan doesn't mention the Mortis arc from TCW as (from what I remember) the connection between The Ones and Abeloth only comes up very briefly in the last book... and I think the last book was the only one to release after the Ones got introduced in TCW. Also the Mass Shadow Generator from the question after is the name that Revan and the Jedi Exile's forces used to destroy the Mandalorians at the end of the Mandalorian Wars in the KOTOR era. 3:24:38 MINIMAL changes? The Thrawn Trilogy either implied or outright presented the Clones as being used by the faction trying to invade the Galactic Republic...

22:33 Star Wars had mass appeal when it hit theaters because it was unique, creative, new, and groundbreaking. The Prequels got a similar, albeit lessened, response from fans because despite all it's problems it was still all the previous things that the OT was. The Sequels suck because they are not unique, creative, new, or groundbreaking in any way. They are derivative, repetitive, and uninspired. Star Wars is dead because corporate media killed everything special about Star Wars in an attempt to replicate the mass appeal of the past
The Long Man Curse has claimed Grift Mondays and I'm perfectly fine with it. =P Great chemistry between you three, as always! Ol' Palp's raunchy sex life needs to be explored more, too. Why hasn't anyone mentioned the Kama Sithra before?!

15:00 what Theory is trying to say is that you don't need any context to watch Acolyte, other than the 6 original movies, if that. On the other hand, to understand what was going on in Ahsoka you needed to watch Clone Wars, Tales and Rebels, because there was no exposition.
Casuals wouldn’t know they need to watch all those shows though. They’d have to be fans to even know those shows are tied in. This is a phalacy hardcore fans create and is illogical. Casuals see “Star Wars” and either consume the fast food media or don’t.
@@superunluckyllama5040 When they see the Ahsoka trailer and hear the line "Anakin never finished my training" they will think "wait what" and realise she is a character from other media.

"The Ship has sailed there" - Ryan More like sailed, sank and brought back to the surface to sink again! 😂 As for everything done in the last 12 years by Disney? It's not Canon. Whatever they say they can't force that shit on me. Scaramanga was a great Bond Villain. Spartii cloning was covered in the Republic Commando books, it's pretty easy to "fix".

Mauler and Ryan: *Exasperated at people treating "kids show" as an excuse for bad writing*
SWT, 5 minutes later: "But it's a kids' show tho"
Fan service corpse 💀💀💀
This show still features Rex, Howser, Gregor, Cut, Mayday, Wolf - all regular clones with different personalities.

Fun fact: in real life if you're cloning a living being, sex is the only thing you cannot alter.

Well put, I am saving this.
I get Omega being the naive child character being new to the world, but similar to Atreus in GoW you need to show them learn that realities of life
Hold up sir! GoW employed writers! How dare you evoke that sacrilege for a Star Wars show!
Gonna put you in the trash right next to Andor if you blaspheme like that again.
Well she doesn't trust Emily even though she is also a clone...so that's a step from season 1...
She actually grew as a character in these episodes, I can't wait until they throw that away so they can teach her the same lesson about not trusting strangers again.
My favorite Star Wars character is Darth Maul’s sister, Alota pain.
Omg are people STILL using the "It's for kids so it's OK that it's trash" argument? Imagine 2 parents at a table eating the best quality food by the best chef and their child is just given heavily processed crap with chemicals and dyes that you microwave. Like those scrappy cheap burritos that are 90% salt and carbs. Is this healthy? Will this affect your kid? Who cares "iTs fOr kIdS iT dOeSnT nEeD tO bE gOoD "
I need Mauler to go on a rant sometime when this is brought up and just blast through a bunch of "kids" content that is actually good to counter the point that standards should be lowered for kids stuff.

But then SWT got two people who are way smarter than him on his podcast and now he's shown to be the odd one out on his own channel. Ryan knows way more about Star Wars than Theory does.
Guys, chill. I've never liked SWT's content, and I've been cringing at *almost* every single thing he's said in these streams so far, BUT;
How do you expect him to get better if he doesn't *continue* to spend time around people who will challenge his current point of view on writing?
I have MANY issues with things that SWT says, but I don't want him to become discouraged to *continue* hanging out with people like MauLer.
One day he'll probably get involved in an EFAP or see some controversy firsthand, and he'll be *forced* to criticize something, and witness the absolute depravity of the people who have *zero* principles for writing. And he'll surely have it burned into his head at that point that he has to be better than that from now on. He'll surely have that moment when everything just **clicks** for him.
We can happily criticize him until then, but try not to be needlessly antagonistic and risk discouraging him from continuing down this road. If HE can become a proper Toxic Broodling, imagine how many will have their consoomer worldviews rocked, ya know?

The bad Batch is wasted on telling a story on how palpatine returned. What a waste.
I was expecting the rise of the Empire from the perspective of the Clones. Basically the good Battlefront 2, but expanded in that section.

I think theory’s reasoning for andor fans being sequel fans is super weak. I love andor and for myself and the vast majority of other andor fans I’ve spoken to hate the sequels.
"Super weak" is the understatement of the century.
@@misterjohn2 true. On r/saltierthancrait anyone who said anything negative against anything from Feloni got so much toxicity. The show is great but my god saying “TCW” isn’t an abbreviation, it’s slower to say, it has more syllables than “the clone wars” or even just “clone wars” 😂
Im calling the plot of bad batch season 3 now, the main characters are going to raid “project necromancer” to try and destroy it but instead theyre going to abduct the clone of palpatine whos going to be the same age as the girl clone, theyre going to have a poorly written romance plot, and it will turn out that omega is rey’s mother to try and justify how rey is totally super intelligent, i have not and will not watch the bad batch but im convinced that ive got the plot from just whats in this podcast.
Agreed
Bro... it's scary how this can actually happen lmao
Omega is blond. Rey's mom was brunette. Rey's dad doesn't look like Palpatine. By the time Rey's parents get killed by Ochi Omega should be 54 years old. Rey's mom looked at least 20 years younger. It doesn't work.
That would mean Boba Fett is Rey's uncle. Which would be hilarious.
He just looks cool and does cool stuff. Nothing deeper to dig your brain into. The other 8 all have stuff going on.
@iedMammothBecause he's the most superficial.

Theorys Clone Trooper - Stormtrooper analogy is the most cringe shit ever
The prequel era and the OT are so fundamentally different, only being held together by character names and general iconography. Any addition to one almost always damages the other: midichloians, Jedi extinction and eraser from existence in 20 years, cloning, world building hiccups, ahsoka tano’s existence, the entire Mortis shenanigans, and the list goes on. They could be separate IPs with the amount of incoherency that occurs between them.
SW never was a strict and detailed timeline .. it overlaps and has plotholes all the time.. but its not meant to be analyzed like a damn scorsese movie if u know what i mean.. that part of youtube channels doing content on sw is always fkdup because ppl are bound to overanalize something not meant to be overanalized
its more like a huge store.. take what you like and ignore what you dont like and thats it
Mortis never actually happened.
@@boletop6204 no, it’s a narrative. It’s a continuous story that has a beginning, middle, and end. If the timeline doesn’t make sense then that is a flaw. Your response saying that nothing matters unless you like it is destroys the entire narrative. Do you forget Age of Ultron or Iron-Man 2 from Marvel because you didn’t like it? No, because they were part of the story and they included character development that affected things going forward. If someone didn’t like the first avengers movie, does that mean it isn’t canon and therefore none of the other movies make sense? Of course not, that’s a preposterous argument.
That isn’t overanalyzing, that’s watching a movie.
@@boletop6204 do you remember how the OT fit cleanly between each of its movies? Do you remember how the Prequels had issues between Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith because they screwed up the timeline? Do you remember how the end of Revenge of the Sith and the beginning of A New Hope feels like an impossibly short amount of time? Star Wars used to be well made, George went mad with CGI power and overdosed, and the story became muddy, only to slot books in all sorts of places to muddy the water even more. Star Wars is not a buffet, it is a story; if there are no set character beats and no solid plot, then there is no coherency and thus no story, coherent plot, definable characters, sturdy world building, or stakes for investment. It becomes a mess of colored lights and loud noises.

I genuinely can't tell, is SWT not aware that "M-count" and "Midichlorians" are the same thing, just a different wording? The way he complains about it makes it sound as if he thinks M-count is a different concept that supplanted Midichlorians, when it's obviously just the writers trying to avoid using the word Midichlorians because they have no spines.

They equate movie Grievous with '08 by default because he's not as great as '03 Grievous, BUT;
YOU called him "lame" in the movie, whereas *I* put it to you to tell me in *what* moment in the film was he "lame" OTHER than him quickly losing the 1v1 with Obi-Wan *before* the Clones showed up?
Watching the film and judging all of his actions as they come, he's STILL an absolute badass, that just gets nerfed for 20 seconds during a 1v1.
He's not even close to as badass as '03 Grievous of course, but he's *also* not even close to as much of a *clown* as '08 Grievous.
Relativity is what destroyed the public's perception of movie Grievous, and people gaslit themselves into misremembering him as a clown in the movie.

Nice try, buddy, but *HOW* did he escape? Hmm?
Because it'd take an asylum regular to consider the WAY he escaped "cowardly."
As far as *I'm* concerned (and the *facts* as well) Windu's line is a plothole, as it does not fit the reality of the Grievous we see in the movie.
And you completely misremembered how the Obi-wan fight went, but at least you mentioned the part where he *chose* to 1v1 Obi-wan, so good job there. But let's start by focusing on the FIRST encounter at the beginning of the movie, and *then* we'll get to the rest later. One thing at a time so we don't get all tangled.
That aspect of the cloning stuff in Star Wars is just so uninteresting to me - On the other hand, how it affects the citizens of the world, and the potential ethical questions it poses is something I would be down to watch a show for.
Honestly I would love to see something dealing with the ethics of all that. Where are the jedi during the clone wars calling this all out? You cannot tell me there were no jedi who had major issues about them leading what is in essence a slave army.
@@visitingforgefather5997I think there were a few, but from what I remember it was mainly comics. There was a love story between a clone and a Jedi for example, in which they hunted down a Kaminoan scientist to reverse the aging. I guess that while we see multiple Jedi in films and shows during the Clone Wars era, we don't get to see much of them in full detail unlike the heavy hitters or the medium characters. Literally had Jedi that only appeared for one episode just to die. At least three times it happened to my memory in the 3D clone wars, and the animated one there was that one episode where Grievous shows himself for the first time to kill every Jedi but one during a destroyer crash site battle.
